I am using the Mi41.
Got the Xiaomi note for spouse.
Prior to her Note, both of us were using chompsms.
With mi4i and note, her chompsms could not receive messages from either chompsms, textra or handcent in my phone. I can see the new sms in her miui's messaging though.
Miui's messaging is good but it lacks the popup reply (under lockscreen) available in chompsms, textra, handcent, etc.
Anyone else have the same problem?
check is you give permission to the app for SMS.

Hello all, I can't seem to figure out how to disable the stock messaging when using Handcent. I recieve messages in both apps. I just want Handcent to be the only one.
Thanks

I believe you need the stock messaging app for Handcent to work. Go into settings for the stock messaging app and uncheck notifications to prevent double notifications.
Miui is awesome in its stability and appearance.. Only issue I am having is the default messaging app blows. It doesn't group messages together when sending/receiving group text.. Or at least I can't find an option to correct it. Does anyone recommend a messaging app to replace the default? Or know how to fix the default app?

Textra is decent. I forget, can you not download the android messaging app from the play store? If not, you may be able to side load it.

Thanks, downloaded the android msg app but the group message on that isn't right either.. Trying textra now to see if its going to work.

Since we now have the option to pick in 4.4, what's your favorite messaging app? I've been using Ninja SMS. I prefer a Holo interface, and the chat heads mean I never have to look at the interface itself anyways.
Hangouts

Hangouts is my favorite.
I actually really, really like the hangouts app.
A lot.
Hangouts or textra for simplicity. Smart messenger for more features and speed. Has message back ups and works with your Google drive to send files.

AOSP MMS. Identical to the standard 4.3 MMS app.

Hangout isn't bad, but I really miss the remove/change not compatible unicode options.
For this reason my favorite is the 8sms https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.thinkleft.eightyeightsms.mms. Looks like the stock 4.3 sms app, but have more options.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I tried 8sms, but sometimes wouldn't receive pictures in MMS. It would appear as a triangle. Looks like a play button. Same with the stock messaging .apk. Any ideas?

Another vote for Textra. Has some nice features, but not overly complicated or bloated. Handles MMS picture messages and iPhone-style group messages great.

Can't let handcent go. Its been on every phone I've owned dating back to my HTC Evo

This isn't making any sense to me, you have always been able to pick whatever messaging app you want.
Textra hands down.

Ahh sorry for my lack of input guys, I forgot to subscribe to the thread when I posted it. I'm loving the input though. I might have to try Textra, seeing as it's getting such positive reviews.
@krabman Sure, you could always use any SMS app, but it was never flawless. In KitKat there technically isn't a default SMS app. You pick whatever you want.

In sorry but you have always been able to pick whatever you want and it would work without issue. All you had to do is turn off notifications in the stock messaging app which wasn't any harder than what you need to do now. What you didn't have to do was set your shiny new messing app as default because the operating system did it for you. If you installed multiple messaging apps like handcent and chomp it would then give the option to set one as default and you could go into the main settings/applications and remove that default just like any other application installs such as launchers or galleries where more than one app could be called to perform an action.

See above. Assuming all the various messaging apps get tuned up to work on 4.4 you will have exactly the same options you had on 4.3, no more no less. There is no now you can pick.

Dear All,
Please suggest me some messages app for my MOTO G, as the default app has very basic features. Is there any Xperia SMS app original available? or Samsung Galaxy like SMS app. If any good 3rd party SMS app is available please suggest. Willing to pay if there is any purchased ones on Play Store.
Thank you
Regards,
I'm currently using Handcent sms. Its great looking, fully customizable, and has free downloadable themes including Samsung, miui, and a bumch more. Best of all the app is free.

Sliding SMS. Very nice application
Evolve SMS is amazing. It's also free (with in-app purchases) and works really well even with the free version

Yes, once you have installed a 3rd party SMS app go into settings of hangout app and you can choose which app to use as default.

Another vote for 8sms. It does everything I need without the bloat. Beats the stock messaging app by miles.
I used 8sms for quite a while and really enjoyed it.
I'm currently using HoverChat- just downloaded the app and I'm really digging it so far. If you have used Facebook messenger and like the chatheads concept, you'll like HoverChat.

Guys, take a look at QKSms, customizable with Material design !
Hey on the S6 is there anyway without root to disable the floating notifications that reads out every message and scrolls across the screen?
I know some apps have this in their settings ex : groupme... But i specifically use hangouts for txt and IM.....
Anyone?

yea i want to know how to do this too. those floating notifications are super annoying especially when watching videos. but looks like there's no way without root though.
Damnn...this sucks. I switched back to my rooted nexus bc this was so annoying!

With HeadsOff lollipop heads-up notifications can now be disabled!
No root needed.
You can also restore the ticker text in the statusbar!
Give it a try:

What about preventing text messages from turning the screen on every time one comes in? Any idea how to get do that?
If you rooted you can edit csc files to do that
