Please suggest Messaging App - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear All,
Please suggest me some messages app for my MOTO G, as the default app has very basic features. Is there any Xperia SMS app original available? or Samsung Galaxy like SMS app. If any good 3rd party SMS app is available please suggest. Willing to pay if there is any purchased ones on Play Store.
Thank you
Regards,

I'm currently using Handcent sms. Its great looking, fully customizable, and has free downloadable themes including Samsung, miui, and a bumch more. Best of all the app is free.

Sliding SMS. Very nice application

Evolve SMS is amazing. It's also free (with in-app purchases) and works really well even with the free version

Yes, once you have installed a 3rd party SMS app go into settings of hangout app and you can choose which app to use as default.

thanks,
now i can disable hangouts for good.

I have 8sms app, on cm11 i disabled default messaging app...

8sms
Another vote for 8sms. It does everything I need without the bloat. Beats the stock messaging app by miles.

I used 8sms for quite a while and really enjoyed it.
I'm currently using HoverChat- just downloaded the app and I'm really digging it so far. If you have used Facebook messenger and like the chatheads concept, you'll like HoverChat.

[Q] Looking for SMS alternative.

Hi, I have Go SMS (Verizon Galaxy S3 running official JB 4.1.1) but I'm looking for a simple SMS/MMS alternative. It should have SMS/MMS capabilities, quick reply pop up and emoji support. I really want to use chompSMS because it's pretty without any themes and has easily accessible emoji BUT it force closes when I try to send an MMS. Help?
Dear Silvares,
Why don't you just start using WhatsApp? It's an amazing app, just like a blackberry messenger for every device. You'll love it.

Ankur

I really don't like Handent's GUI.
I'm just looking for alternatives to GO SMS PRO

Individual notification sounds...

OK guys I've been really looking to find an app that can do this without all the extra stuff..I'd like to be able to set notification sounds for individual contacts.. I've seen apps like SMS pop up that do this and a few others...I already have a ROM that has the pop up feature so I don't really want to use a third party app to message...does anyone know of a way to do so?

Are you looking for notification sounds for only incoming text messages?

Was looking for that but to be able to do assign individual sounds for contacts as it related to texts, but after some research I found an app that does it. Who is it lite

I use LED Lightflow to manage all my notifications in one app. It's nicely designed and has plenty of features.
Another app that allows you to set individual tones for SMS contacts is SMS Sounds. It is a small app that is designed to be used in conjunction with a default messaging app.

Favorite messaging app?

Since we now have the option to pick in 4.4, what's your favorite messaging app? I've been using Ninja SMS. I prefer a Holo interface, and the chat heads mean I never have to look at the interface itself anyways.
Hangouts

Hangouts is my favorite.
I actually really, really like the hangouts app.
A lot.
Hangouts or textra for simplicity. Smart messenger for more features and speed. Has message back ups and works with your Google drive to send files.

sliding messaging.

AOSP MMS. Identical to the standard 4.3 MMS app.

Hangout isn't bad, but I really miss the remove/change not compatible unicode options.
For this reason my favorite is the 8sms https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.thinkleft.eightyeightsms.mms. Looks like the stock 4.3 sms app, but have more options.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I tried 8sms, but sometimes wouldn't receive pictures in MMS. It would appear as a triangle. Looks like a play button. Same with the stock messaging .apk. Any ideas?

Another vote for Textra. Has some nice features, but not overly complicated or bloated. Handles MMS picture messages and iPhone-style group messages great.

Can't let handcent go. Its been on every phone I've owned dating back to my HTC Evo

This isn't making any sense to me, you have always been able to pick whatever messaging app you want.

Ahh sorry for my lack of input guys, I forgot to subscribe to the thread when I posted it. I'm loving the input though. I might have to try Textra, seeing as it's getting such positive reviews.
@krabman Sure, you could always use any SMS app, but it was never flawless. In KitKat there technically isn't a default SMS app. You pick whatever you want.

In sorry but you have always been able to pick whatever you want and it would work without issue. All you had to do is turn off notifications in the stock messaging app which wasn't any harder than what you need to do now. What you didn't have to do was set your shiny new messing app as default because the operating system did it for you. If you installed multiple messaging apps like handcent and chomp it would then give the option to set one as default and you could go into the main settings/applications and remove that default just like any other application installs such as launchers or galleries where more than one app could be called to perform an action.

See above. Assuming all the various messaging apps get tuned up to work on 4.4 you will have exactly the same options you had on 4.3, no more no less. There is no now you can pick.

This is still new my friend it's not even publish yet in playstore so it hasn't been themed yet From MOD Themers!
I know it's new. My mistake in wording. What I meant to ask was-did Google include in the app to have a dark theme. I don't know why app developers dont just include that.
Sent from my LG-D800 using XDA Free mobile app
Google does not let you change anything about the Gmail UI, including the stupid gray font for read messages that makes it difficult to read the subject lines. I used the App Settings to increase the font size for Gmail only, because the default font size is intolerable.
Great! Working ok!
Thanx

i installed this and tried to darken it using Holo Themer. but that didn't work.
Installed no problem on my V10i version but I can't send the mail as it stuck at sending... Rolled back to my original gmail.. Anyone having same issue??
This is available on G-Play now and has already been updated twice since its official release.

Able to send and receive emails without any problem

Can someone post the default messaging app?

I'd like to be able to use the iOS style notifications, which have the text field directly in the notification. I know that it likely won't work on an AOSP ROM, but I'd like to at least try. Thanks in advance!
Here's another vote for the stock S6 messaging app apk.
