roms for european phones - Sprint Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i see tons of roms but they're all for sprint where do i find roms that will work with european phones ?

If you go to the search bar and type in only "galaxy s5 android development" without any carriers names in front of those search terms you should be directed to the right forum for your variant.

Rogers is also I727R, not AT&T nor Skyrocket

Rogers also sells the SGH-I727R also known as Galaxy S2 LTE up in Canada.
I don't have AT&T nor is my device called Skyrocket, and this applies to all Canadians who have the device from Rogers.
As such I would suggest to the mods changing the name of the main forum to Galaxy S2 SGH-I727R as opposed to making it associated to a specific carrier and making it easily accessible to Canadian users without confusion.
sorry but no
if you haven't noticed, this forum follows only and mainly phone releases from Europe as in UK, and USA, everything else are just extra, and any model that is the same as the ones released in either region, will just get grouped together.
Your forum, your rules.
I haven't noticed the Europe/UK/USA focus, as I don't look much at forums for devices that I don't have; so please forgive my ignorance on the matter.
I find it unfortunate that the Canadian market has come to be categorized as "extra". As usual we end up being the US underdog and end up being grouped under AT&T instead of having a generic carrier independent name that fits all.
I guess it is all about volume.
i totally agree with you there buddy

which forum should i be watching?

I am upgrading to the S5 later this week. What i would like to know is which development forum i should be keeping an eye on. It seems as if there are 3 different ones for the sprint variant ((if it is at all different from the other carrier's offerings) Unified, original and standard android development forums).
You need to be watching the forum that pertains to your cell service carrier. Ie: Sprint, if your carrier is sprint.
Edit: I just learned that a lot of mods will be able to work across platforms, for those, watch the unified development forum.

[Q] [noob] Why is M8 ROM carrier specific for phone with S-off/rooted

Hello --
would like to understand why M8 ROM has to be built for specific carrier variant of phone.
Example:
HTC ONE M8 has multiple different ROM threads -- ATT, Tmobile, Verizon, etc.
While I understand there are some small frequencies support differences between an M8_Tmobile and M8_Verizon, why doesn't a Rooted with S-off M8 care whether it's a ATT or Verizon model?
Example2:
VenonROM specifically advertises it works on multiple flavors of M8
Example3:
GPE_#BESTROMEVER_ says specifically for M8_Verizon. why is this?
Does this have something to do with any of following: CID, MID, and/or base vendor ROM used for platform?
I have small company and want to buy a bunch of M8's and give to employees (vs having them do $650 financing through carrier). I'd like to use SAME ROM across all M86 .. regardless of M8_flavor. I'd like to understand why some ROM's are specific and others support multiple M8_flavors to help in my decision.
Thanks in adv.

Well for one there's some specific hardware provisioning pieces.
If you look at a multi carrier Rom zip you will often notice that the updater script picks up one which variant the phone is and flashes files specific to that carrier. You would need to do something like that if you wanted to use a common Rom across multiple phones.
You also have to be careful too as have had devices that had different partition layouts on different carriers. Heck, the Asian m8 even has a different cpu.
Lastly, firmware is a completely different animal than your Rom. Flashing att firmware on a Sprint or Verizon phone could end up as a brick.

[Q] Canadian variant section?

Why isn't there a Canadian section for the galaxy s6 on this forum? All cariers seems to have their own section, but as I canadian I always have to discuss about specific problems over different variant section. I think it would be nice to have a small section with Q&A and General Discussion at least.
The numbers just aren't there. Not every carrier has their own section. Only Verizon ATT Sprint & T-Mobile do. The fifth being the international models. Not sure where you got that information from. Also the Canadian variant is 95% identical to the T-Mobile variant.

Different partitions, no wifi-calling. They are still different. :/
If you search the General section, you'll find a large thread dedicated to Canadian devices and service. That's all there is for now.

@Moderators XDA Forums

Since the first time I asked (before the S9/S9+ were released) that thread got closed, so I'll ask again:
Could we please get carrier specific forums for the Galaxy S9 and S9+? I know it'll happen but it would be great to have them live by next week before now that the phones have come out officially in the US. TIA!
I don't think we need any U.S. carrier specific forum.
First. Those phones have locked BL. No significant development effort is expected.
Second. U.S. models have the same hardware, same model. Why we need carrier specific ones? Just discuss them in general forum.
Third. Carrier specific forums are purely waste of resources. Why U.S. carriers get 4 separated forum compared to the rest of world get only one?

^^ this
In case there is a noticeable demand at a later stage, we can always create the forums.
