Ergonomics (in-hand feel) - Xiaomi Mi 5 Real Life Review

Please, no "that's what she said" jokes. Rate this thread to express how you think the Xiaomi Mi 5 feels in-hand. A higher rating indicates that it's comfortable to hold for long periods of time, even in one hand. Resist the urge to say "TWSS" just now. Seriously.

It's really ergonomic
I've the OEM (Xiaomi) Shockproof Case and the Mi5 still good in hand not too big neither too heavy
I go with my thumbs (i've very large hands) on the top of the screen without the need to move the phone.

How does the glass back feel in hand? Is it like the Samsung S7? Had one in hand today and felt kind of warm and slippery, not that premium.

Feels better than Mi 4c, especially in landscape mode when you're playing games or taking pictures.

Feels really good in the hand. Easy 1 hand usability. Light. Comfortable to hold cause of the curved back and edge.
It is slippery though!

sometimes if holding "incorrectly" in palm, the edge could be wrongly "touched" and affect the touch on the screen.

This is one of the aspect where probably Mi5 is one of the best mobile absolutely.
5.15 inch, less than 130 g, just perfect.
Also with a cover it still remains really handy.

Screen has sharp edges, not really pleasure to hold. And it's slippery a lot, you can't even put it on desk/glass because it immediately slip and fall down.
Back panel is nicely curved, overall looks good ?
Moto X with leather back and 2.5D front is much better with these. I'm starting looking for back skin...

at first i thought having curve back was good but not really with mi5 because of the sharp feel of metal bezel. its slippery as well with the glass. otherwise it feel good for one handed phone use

It really fits perfect in my hands but with wet hands or when the phone is really cold (during winterdays) it is slippery. I was lucky enough to not let it fall down (doesn't like cases at all, they ruin the optic of any phones )

It fits your hand very good nothing is too far to tap

Excellent ergonomics
Personally it is one my favorite phones to hold for extended periods of time. The curved glass back tires perfectly in my palm and it is the perfect size for one handed use. Currently have a poco F1 but it's hard to change to as it is heavier and often find myself nursing the touch buttons

I like it. For using with one hand, the one hand mode thing becomes very usefull, as allow you to reach the upper corners.
Since all newer phones are bigger and heavier, donĀ“t see it getting any better soon.

Motorola Atrix 2 Diztronic Flexible Case Review (with pics)

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005Y2O82U/ref=oh_o03_s01_i00_details
-Price: $8.90 + $2.85 shipping
-Pictures (sorry if flash makes it too bright, and I forgot to clean my screen) : http://imgur.com/a/AELLH
These pics should show angles from all six sides, and from top and side while detached to show the added thickness.
-Functionality: Really incredible. As you can see in my photos, all of the I/O jacks have plenty of room for any connecting cables or devices, unless you have some with a 90-degree angle with little clearance, but no cases would work in that instance. The camera/flash, speaker, reset button? (I think that's it...), microphone, and power/lock buttons are fully exposed, while the volume rocker is covered by the case. The volume rocker is fairly hard to press, but I think it comes in a benefit if you press it accidentally too much like me. It's more difficult to remove than some of the soft cases, but this doesn't really fit the "soft" category like the silicone cases. It does fit very tight with little wiggle-room, though, which is a good thing. See below about that.
Overall rating: 4/5
-Aesthetics and feel: glossy and slick, but doesn't slip very much. I find much benefit for getting this because I tend to drop things. The thickness increase wasn't too bad, and was smaller in this respect than other flexible cases I have used in the past with other phones. I like a bigger phone in my pocket, because sometimes the naked phone makes me feel like I lost it because it is so small in my pocket. The weight increase is noticeable, as per the specs of both the phone and case, it adds about 15% to the weight (5.2 oz, 0.8 oz, 6 oz. with both). I tend to not mind heavier phones, but if this is a problem to you, I would be wary of this, because it does feel like a slightly bigger, and quite a bit heavier phone. I love the color and gloss of the product I bought, but if you don't like it, there are other color options. The well-cut holes in the case for the screen and ports/camera/speaker/etc. are really nicely done, and they deserve some praise. Also, I like that the case is semi-translucent. The glossy nature of this case makes it susceptible to grease and fingerprint collection, but I haven't seen many if any cases that never get smudges. Due to the last observation, it does lose a little bit of its slip-resistance, but it still is better than just the plain phone, in my opinion. Sometimes, if there is enough smudges/finger oil on there, you can make it squeak with your fingers. It is hard to the touch, which a tap with the fingernail to the case, while on the phone, feels almost like tapping the glass screen.
Overall rating: 4/5.
-Protection: Not much here. I would say while it might help protect if it was dropped flat on its back, the hardness of the case while attached to the phone does not offer any cushion for an impact. I am sure that a drop on a corner could damage the phone. As mentioned above, the glossiness allows for the collection of oil on it, which can also help slips, although I think it still is less slippery than the actual phone alone, unless your hands were wet, then this case would probably slip right out. Also, there is not much that protects the ports or camera, even though I am not sure if there is a case that does this for this phone.
Overall Rating: 2/5
-Arbitrary rating: based from 0-5 on nothing rather than my own opinion for how much I like it: 3/5
-Total overall rating: 13/20
-Conclusions: if you like a functional case that looks and feels nice, look no farther. If you want a case that offers more protection or weighs and slips less, I would look elsewhere. Overall, it's a nice case with some fundamental weaknesses.
-I have not owned this phone or case for long, and I am planning on getting a secondary case soon, so I will update this with comments when I have more to say about it.

I have the same one. I'd give it a 4/5. Works well but I never use it. Doesn't make the phone too bulky either but I would like to see when CaseMate or another company comes with a slim designed case.

I am interested to see if there are any soft silicone or silicone-like cases for it. I didn't do a search yet, but I kinda want another case just for rotation. I'm about to do another review of my otterbox case, as soon as I get pics.
looks like the best case in the market for this price.
Works with the Car Dock
FWIW, I have this case, and on the phone it fits perfectly in Motorola's Car Dock for the Atrix 2 (the dock has an insert that can be removed if you're using a case). Any case thicker than this won't fit the dock. Very satisfied with the case, considering the price.
I have it and love it been using it on my captivate for almost 2 years and I now have it on the atrix

I got the gloss black for my wife, and matte black with the old TC logo (they were formally TPU Cases) for myself. Fits perfect on the A2, good product - located in Madison, WI!

Quality feel (use of materials)

Feels great, not that heavy and fits my paw just right. Don't feel I will drop it due to it being unbalanced or anything like that
Perfect weight balance in combination with very smooth and HQ unibody. Feels simply great to me
To be honest with you guys., quality is bad (frost white).
Where?
"Aluminum is "very soft" it's mean is cheap. Chrome bezels are scratching without any force.
Drapped my phone from my hands to the table, somehow the piece of plastic between the screen and the metal bezel got bite off ! (Maybe it just a rare case of situation, but still).
We got gorilla glass 4., damn my left upper corner got light scratching on it., I have no idea how guys. And I always super careful with my gadgets.
Ergonomic is ok, the sharp bezels bothering a hand for a long time of hold.
So basicly as a person with a big experience who "constantly" changing the phones and "spending a lot of money", I can say huawei quality from 10 to 1 is "7"
Compare to latest premium build devices as a Apple/Samsung/Sony, Huawei is loosing.
(HTC quality ? It was always good ! (good aluminum) but somehow my front bottom speaker grill (m9), got stick off from right corner. So ? Premium aluminum but bad coincidence? Maybe.)
Do I like the generally the phone? -YES it's beautiful design, good hardware. Do you like a quality? -NO.
Best Regards
Feels nice in the hand. Quality build and I love the texture of the back.
Looks premium but feels cheap in the hand.
Lookwise would give it 8 and feels like a 6.5.
Here I'm comparing 6p to S6, M9, 6S build quality. Now they look and feel premium but all of those phones were far more expensive at time of launch.
Nexus just feels as if it will scratch and mark up so easily due to aluminum being so thin, paper thin.
I'm quite happy with it but that's mainly because of stock android otherwise would not buy it.
I think it feels very nice.
Maybe not like an iphone, but it reminds me on a HTC. Only the volume up/down keys are a little bit shappy.
The rest is really premium!
The phone feels very great! However, it feels as if it would take no force at all to bend this thing
Beautiful phone but it definitely seems like some corners were cut with the build quality. The aluminum feels subpar, plastic piece on bottom could have been avoided and volume button should be reinforced.

The build quality is awesome, and the thin edges are great for a slimmer feel. But the edges can be sharp for longer periods. Also, the headphone jack on the top is just wrong. Put it on the bottom.
no denying that metal makes things heavy , but this phone feels a tad too heavy for my liking .
I have mixed feelings, it's my first metal framed phone, feels obviously slippery on the sides and in the same time it is great and something new, but this sandstone back is the major reason of those feelings, not that grippy as expected and it's like rough paper under fingers, it's just something unique and that's all.
My thoughts after almost 1 year:
1) too heavy.
2) metal quality really poor. After paying a lot of attention the phone has all metal angles washed-up.
3) Screen is not responsive from time to time and this is annoying while using with 1 hand
4) home button randomly not responsive.
5) good feeling while having phone on the ear while talking.
I would not buy it again.
With Sandstone cover it feels good and I quite like it.
With Bamboo and Rosewood style swap covers it feels a bit slippery.
It feels just great in original silicone case.
Screen size is just right for me

Really? I don't even think p10 plus is slippery xD.
For me it sits really well in my hand and hardly slippery at all. Mostly glass backplate ones are slippery.
But this one with aluminum back makes it sturdy and not slippery at all.
I think every aluminium unibody is slippery,
I cant tell you too much by my exerience,
But iPhone 5 slippery but small you can grip the whole device well.
HTC One M7 slippery and the back curved like a shell its a great phone, but a horrible ergonomics for me.
iPhone 6 - 7 same as Huawei P10 and P10 Plus.
I dont know what about the blue and green Huawei which has a diamond cut pattern on the back maybe those models are better, but the sandblast black P10Plus which is 5.5" is horrible to hold operate with. Everyone loves manufacturers ditching the plastic but some phones was way better with some plastic and other material mix.
For example: Motorola Droid Razr Xt910
Pladtic + kevlar combo loved it, looked well, felt well it was durable. Today all premium device is glass or metal.
I think it's awesome. I had a OnePlus 3T which was always flipping out of my hand. Lumia 950Xl was awesome with the plastic back. LUMIA 1520 was too thin. IPhone 4s was good
My opinion is that it depends on your hands size. Normal size hands, normal grip. I would say it is not slippery.

I thought there would be more posts in the 'handling section' I am interested in people's experiences. How does it compare to your previous phones for holdability? We are so use to looking for specs ergonomics is way down the list. But when all is said and done how this handles is a huge factor in people's experience. From the look of I would expect this to be as slippery (and as shinny) as an eel. Have sensible folk donned a case or a skin or perhaps not?
The form factor feels excellent in the hand. It's easy to handle and has a "one handed mode" as well if needed. Though it is extremely slippery specially if you have dry hands at most times. Also mainly to the fact that the back glas also has an oleophobic coating like the screen has. This is a huge positive in my opinion though as it makes the back as easy to clean as the front. More slippery yes but doesn't attract dirt as much as other glas phones and when it does it's easy to clean.

You can try to put on a case to reduce the slipperiness.
One of the most beautiful design..feel really good in hand.
Its severity is a well-proportioned hand-to-sine ratio.
Such a great phone to hold. The smaller screen and the glass body make it feel really great.
