[Q] Is there a way to hide or disable Navbar/Softkeys without root? - Xperia Z5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
does anyone know a way to hide or disable Navbar/Softkeys on the Z5 (Premium) without root?
The playstore shows only apps wich require root.
I would love to use some extra display space and LMT as softkey replacement is working fine...

Install "all in one gestures" from playstore, as shown in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z5/help/root-solutions-t3270134

hm, tried "all in one gestueres" before, but it is not working on all apps and sometimes it just hides the buttons but keeps a blank, black space.
anyway, besten dank für den hinweis! :good:

Nova launcher?

I'm using Nova Launcher....

Nova dont support hiding navbar anymore, at least not for every device's rom. But good point, im having Total Launcher Pro installed and it hides the navbar, though only on homescreen(s).

Not really sure if this is what you're looking for, but this is what I use to hide my softkeys and navbar to get full-screen.
The keyboard doesn't work while full-screen is activated though.

GMD Full screen immersive mode

Have you tried a third-party Sony Theme with textureless softkeys? They are not really being hidden just there is no softkey image to show so you see nothing lol.

Tried all of your suggestions (thanks for those!), but nothing works realy flawless.
Guess, I'll wait for root and rom without that much disadvantages as today...

Things I'd like to do with my N5. Possible?

While using the stock rom...
1. Can I get a "Reboot" option on shutdown menu?
2. Possible to rearrange or even change the "Back, Home, Recent Apps" buttons? I'd like to swap the Back and Home button locations. Maybe replace recent apps with something I actually use.
3. Possible to add more items to the settings tiles accessed from the pulldown?
4. Is it safe to disable Google+ if I'm running an alternate launcher? Will any apps like Chrome or Gmail stop working (not sure if they're tied in)? I have an alternate gallery app installed so Photos and Gallery will be unused. Hangouts is already disabled on mine. Alternate SMS app installed.
Thanks for your time.
You need to gain root (methods are available on this forum) then download xposed framework, (also on this forum) then download a module called Gravity Box included in the downloads part of Xposed Installer. It allows what you're looking for on Stock Rom.
Edit: I forgot, in my case I hate the soft keys so I used Ultimate Dynamic Navbar to do what you want with rearranging/customizing. Also look into LMT launcher, it allows a lot of customization and includes all of the normal hard keys and app drawers.
1&3 as above
2 I've not seen yet
4 yea get rid the it, nothing will happen

[Q] what are the root apps you use...?

So, I'm trying to decide if to root my tablet - the unlocked lte version. . .
I wanted to ask you what are the main apps/ modules/ tricks you use (that require root ).
and now, looking back, do you think it was worth it losing the warranty ?
(since there is not a lot of development for our tablet anyway- no custom rooms, no costum recovery etc' )
all my devices were rooted until now.... so I'm not new to rooting
thanks ))

trickster mod kernel settings. you can make many of the changes you find in custom roms with this.
not sure how much its really worth it. the speed and battery life improvement arent to big. this isnt like my nexus 7, which get scary fast once i have a new kernal and dalvik patches installed.
maybe once.if a custom kernel comes out, and i can add a few more changes, like UV things, it would be worth rooting more.
In terms of applications that have root access on my note pro right now I have:
Button Savior
File Manager HD
Gesture Navigation (an Xposed Module)
Greenify
Pen Window Manager
StickMount
Titanium Backup
USB OTG Helper
Wanam Xposed
Xposed Installer
I've posted a list of Xposed modules that I'm running here.
I agree about what has been said with regards to root and its impact to speed and battery life; there are tangible benefits but not to the degree that other devices with less RAM and slower CPUs would see. Between what I have frozen and what I keep from loading at startup using boot manager I start off on cold boot with about 1.4GB of available RAM (1.30 taken). Responsiveness to me is improved but it could be placebo. Battery life is more about managing wake locks and background process. For that you don't really need root, its more of an app selection and app settings issue.
For me the speed thing is not as important on this device as are the customization benefits. Button Savior and Gesture Navigation alone make landscape use in hand a lot easier. Having custom app settings, ad blocking and visual tweaks like tinted status bar are icing on the cake.

How does this compare to GMD gesture control. Seems GMD has more customization. But i never tried Gest Nav .... TZ

Gesture Nav doesn't have as many features as GMD and is probably lighter on resources as a result though I'm not positive on that. When Kitkat rolled out for my Nexus 4 I immediately went to ART and didn't wait around for GMD to update to support it (though it did after a short wait) so I haven't used GMD in about 6 months.
I find myself using very little by way of gestures anyway so I'm using the free version of Gesture Navigation and merely using it to bring up things like search, settings, recent apps tray, a quick way to do a "back" command and a couple of frequent applications like my lastpass app, lecturenotes and a file manager.
I'd say stick with what you know if you already have it set up.

Hide Softkeys?

LG, Huawei and a couple other companies have this feature baked into their take on Android, allowing you to hide softkeys on a per app basis. Anyone figured out a way to hide them on the Idol 3?

I think to hide the navigation bar you need root but I'm not sure. Have you tried doing a google search for "Hide Android navigation bar"? There's app on the play store but again they may need root and root has not yet been achieved.

There is an app in the Play Store, It works without root , and actually is not bad. The free version does not allow per-app setting. I tested it for a little while, and then uninstalled. I think I will keep the nav bar - since it hides or becomes transparent in videos and photos anyway. The browser is the only odd case - and I will live with it for now - actually the back button may come handy !

Yeah, I used GMD Auto Hide with the Z3 Compact and it worked flawlessly, but it doesn't seem to be too effective with my Idol. The time the softkeys bother me is during games that don't automatically put the screen into immersive mode, so not only do I usually accidentally touch one of the softkeys but it's also wasted screen real estate during gaming.
No one is currently working on this? This is surprising since soft keys are one of the most annoying things about the Idol 3. I'll hit up GMD Auto Hide Soft Keys developer and see what they can do to make this work for us!
Has anyone found a solution for this yet? I returned the phone after only a few hours because of this flaw. Extremely annoying feature. Takes a big
screen phone and makes it small again.
With root and xposed you can use the module "Hideable Nav Bar".

You can try any cm version for our phone and it has this option you need embedded in the system under the name of expanded desktop in display settings.

Need advices (Launcher + Gestures)

Hello everybody,
First of all, Big thanks for all the comunity for the outstanding job :good:
I am an owner of S7 Edge international version and also a Oneplus One (I will explain why I'm mentionning that). On the OPO, I experienced the Sailfish OS and it's a unique experience. What is really interesting is that this OS is swipe and gesture based and I consider that this will suites more the S7 edge because of the edges of the screen. The functions that I would like to import are :
- The swipe and gesture of course (I think that there are already apps who can do that so it's not a problem).
- A minimalist experience with just the Locksreen, Main screen with tiles of all the running apps (Like in Huawei P8 for example) and App drawer.
- A page with notification feed to replace OR in addition to the Notification drawer.
Due to the fact that I have 0 experience in coding and not enough time because of my professionnal life, I would like to know if there is a Launcher (I already searched) or an app or Xposed module that could do that.
How about Nova launcher pro?
I use the swype down for notification bar and swype up for settings. Also double tap to sleep (but you need to use root there! If not your fingerprint unlock wont work correctly and you always have to use the pin code)
Sent from my S7 EDGE
After rooting the device, what did you do for the fingerprint unlock to work after double-tapped sleep? Any extra steps?
What exactly do you want to do by gestures? There are powerful apps like GMD gesture control etc. I personally use glove box as appdrawer/multitasking tool by a swipe from the edge accessible from everywhere and as mentioned above swipe down for notifications and swipe up for standard appdrawer in Nova launcher. That's all I need to keep my homescreen clean and speed up the work flow.
Please take a look at Sailfish OS to understand what I meant especially for the notification page. I can't post a link yet due to the rules but a quick search on youtube is enough.

I use nova and greenify : in the nova settings I make sure that a double tap hibernate apps and turn off the screen (with greenify option in nova). I also use the alternative screen off mode in the greenify settings.
So when I double tap, the screen turns off, and then I can unlock it directly with my fingerprint

If you use double tap to wake the normal way and have unlock issues go to:
Settings / device security / other security settings (at the bottom) / device administrator
Untick nova launcher and try to lock it with double tap.
It should now ask you if you want to do it with root.

If you want a minimalistic look the only app I know is KLWP.
But it won't be the same.
The last advice I can give you if you find nothing with the search is post your question in the Apps section http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games.
There are a hundred times more people around.

Navigation bar android pie

Hello,
So today my xz premium got its update to android 9.
I need to get used of some stuff but overall its ok. Except for the navigation bar. Somehow the bar doesnt close anymore after i open an app. And there should be these gesture things that u can enable in settings ? Well i cant find them anywhere. Does anyone esle have the same issue or is it just me ? Hopefully someone can figure out how to fix this. Or maybe its just a mistake by sony and we'll soon get an update.
Now... I've search also the feature immersive (Full display); but it isn't anymore included (in the Stock FW)
First of all I try - after search in the IN - an app from a developer from this forum : GMD full screen.... the app works, but is a little bit old and the pro version (for no more support) to expensive. About that, that I've a rooted mobile, I have deinstalled the app and after continuous search, I use the app systemUI tuner.
With this app, I've also a Tilt in the upper bar to dis-/enabled the feature.
Till now, it's works fine with Pie
Thanks alot! I'll try tomorrow
Hopefully we get better navbar and proper Pie navigation with the next gen Xperia Home launcher.
Not a single word from Sony about that, for months now, since they stopped the development on the current launcher. Maybe the XZ4 lineup gets it.
I've managed to get it to work thank you. I have excluded xperia home so i do get the nav bar on my home screen and it hides in apps.
Hopefully we will get a better nav bar indeed on the next version of xperia home. Or maybe they will give us stock android ? I wouldnt mind.
From what I know (Im sure it was on Android Central), SONY have no intention of including the "P" Nave bar .. theyre just keeping the 3 buttons.. (Thank You SONY)..
Even on the XZ2, XZ2 P and the XZ3... still the Back, Home and Recent Apps buttons..
IMO, Im pleased SONY have kept them... theyre quick and easy to use, plus, like the removal of the 3.5mm jack, the new Nav swipe.... just a copy from from Apple, the iPhone X range..
Plus.. its a pain to use
Its okay that sony doesnt use the new gestures bar. But then atleast make the original navigation bar work as it used to. I also have the xz3 it also stays on there but the screen is bigger so it actually never disturbed me. But on the xz premium they had to keep it like it was.

sorry for the late reply, but i used system ui tuner and in there i excluded xperia home so the nav bar would still be shown in the home screen but not in other apps.
You could also try the app Fluid NG. By far the best gesture Navigation I know and works flawlessly System Wide (including the Xperia launcher). You need to give it additional permissions via adb through...
