[Marshmallow] Prevent SMS lockscreen preview from combining texts - General Questions and Answers

Is this possible without 3rd party apps? I can't find an option to change this behavior. I often get two SMS from the same person before I look at my lockscreen and so it combines to say "2 new messages" instead of showing me the message preview for each message. I'd love to have a separate preview notification for each message or have one multi-line notification that shows one line from each message.

How to stop new message popup?

Hi all,
I have a HTC Touch running WM6.
As I am sure you are all aware, when you recieve a new sms or email message, a popup is displayed at the bottom of the screen, which displays the beginning of the new message.
This I do not like as it obviously exposes the contents of the beginning of the message (especially in sms) which is not very private, esp. if you are doing something on the phone showing other people.
Is there a way to stop this pop up balloon? Maybe just get it to say "New message" or even just make a sound / vibrate but with no popup and the "no new messages" icon will of course just switch to indicating new messages waiting?
Many thanks,
Jon

[Q] Lockscreen text message display

I am running the stock OPO lockscreen. Trying to figure out how to stop it from displaying text messages on the lockscreen and I just don't see the option. I like the unread count. I noticed if I only have one text message it displays the text right on the cyan part of the lockscreen. Is there a setting I am not seeing to keep the unread count, but not show the actual text message on there?

No Reply-Archive option in Text message Notification after Oreo update

I received the OTA upgrade to Oreo, 2 days back(In india). Phone has become snappier in opening apps.
But, i have noticed a really important feature missing in the Samsung's Text Message app. It no longer gives option to 'Mark as Read' or 'Reply' from the notification panel itself(which was introduced in Nougat).
Whatsapp and Gmail still gives the options in Notification Panel.
I have attached the screenshot as well.
Can anyone help if this can be rectified.
Is there any specific option to enable the same under Messages > Notifications ??
I have just noticed that the 'Mark as Read' and 'Reply' option under Notification panel comes for messages sent from Mobile numbers. Even if 'Reply' is meaningless for non-mobile numbers, 'Mark as Read' option should be there for all Text message Notification, but its not there since upgrading to Oreo.
Can anyone confirm the same?. Or is it an issue on my phone only?

Messaging Pop-Up

Just recently got one of these and while I love it so far one of the issues I have is that with a lot of incoming messages the screen will light up and a big popup will show the message and allow you to reply or close. This bypasses all security and displays the message in full. Is there a way to stop this and just show the standard android notification?

[Annoying] WhatsApp Notifications...

Every time a message is received on WhatsApp, all the previously unread messages too show up in the notification area.
Anyone who uses Notification History would see all these old WhatsApp messages before the other recently received notifications. The notification history becomes a mess because of this.
Is there a way to stop these old messages from showing up again (without reading them)?

When a new message is received on WhatsApp, it is common for the app to group the notification with the previous unread messages. However, if you don't want the old messages to show up in the notification area every time a new message is received, you can try the following:
Open WhatsApp and go to Settings > Notifications.
Scroll down and select "Group notifications".
Under "Notification tone", select "Silent".
Under "Message notifications", select "No sound" and "No vibration".
Under "Light", turn off the toggle for "Use high priority notifications".
Go back to the main Settings menu and select "Apps & notifications".
Select "Notifications" and then "Advanced".
Turn off the toggle for "Allow notification dot".
By following these steps, WhatsApp notifications will no longer make any sound or vibration, and the app won't use high priority notifications or notification dots. This way, when a new message arrives, it won't group with the previous unread messages, and they won't show up in the notification area again. However, you will still receive the notification in the notification shade, and you can read the new message there.

Lovely. I think this may work with some tweaks.
I will try and 'mute' or archive individual conversations (since some of these are from individuals too) and see if that helps.
This is indeed something for WhatsApp to sort out in their app so they don't show previous unread conversations repeatedly in the notification area. This gets annoying very quickly.
