Wow, thanks for this.
I think i managed to remove like 5 or 6 useless icons from my app drawer
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note using XDA Premium app
Really works and it does so fast, clean and easy. I think it's the only app available on the Play Store that actually does this WITHOUT breaking the apps.
GREAT JOB!
Wish the UI was cleaner, based on ICS design elements.
Thanks!
(Galaxy Nexus 4.0.4)
Works great. Just one thing, when I tried to hide SIM Toolkit, it makes my phone lose the signal n when it got the signal back, SIM Toolkit appear again on my app drawer.
nice

Thanks for all the positive feedback. Next releases will be focused on making it easier to use (filters and status indicators).
Only navigation from maps is going back after reboot.
Btw good work.

Guess I must be doing something wrong...?
Great idea, this app!
However, I don't get the option to "hide" a particular item...
All it offers for me - when long-pressing an app - is "Clear data", "Freeze" or "Uninstall"...
What am I doing wrong/missing?

The freeze option would allow you to hide all icons and completely disable an app but this probably isn't what you want...
Short press the app to transition into the "Details" view at which point you'll see a list of icons associated with the application. Short press the icons you want to show/hide to check them and then click the "Show/Hide Icon(s)" button to process the operation.
After hiding/showing icons some launchers will require you to reboot before they actually show/hide.
I've installed it and when I run it, It asks for root permissions, which I click allow, but then the app just sits there with the spinning circle and "Asking for root permissions" It's been like that for about 10min so I think it's stuck
On a Sony Xperia Arc, rooted gingerbread 2.3.4
Anything I can try?

You should try installing BusyBox. See if that helps.

Haven't seen/heard of this before. My first suggestion would be to exit out and retry. If that doesn't work you can PM me here or email [email protected] (better option since it dings my phone ) and I'll try and help you resolve it.

I had the same problem here. I restartet the Device and it works now.
this is awesome, i've been looking for something like this since ditching non-stock launchers. Question, will uninstalling undo anything I hid? or do i need to do this before uninstalling to prevent apps from permanently being hidden? I also noticed that hiding the icons this way prevents them from showing up when searching on the Evo.

This application modifies system settings to hide the icons or freeze applications. They will continue to be hidden/frozen after uninstalling so you should unhide them first or reinstall the application when you need to restore them.
I installed this because it sounded like it would hide the icons but still let me use the apps. I spent about 10 minutes going through my apps and hiding them.
I hid my Apex launcher and after I exited the app the system freaked the **** out going to a few other apps and then finally the default CM9 launcher when I hit the home key.
Also it doesn't highlight everything I check to be hidden in blue. So I had to go through and unhide everything just to be safe, taking another 10 minutes to sort through my app list trying to remember what I ticked off. Around 500 apps, not fun.

Technically it disables the Activity associated with the icon which does in fact make it unusable while hidden. Beyond a launcher with the capability to hide icons this is the only way to do it.

For most launchers this would be fine as separate Activities are created for the "Settings" and "Launcher" functionalities. Unfortunately this is not the case with Apex launcher and I sent them an email a while back suggesting a change.
In general care should be taken while hiding launchers and system apps (titles in red). Maybe I should do something more than just the red text to indicate caution should be taken. Maybe a warning prompt with an option to disable it for those that like to live dangerously ;-)

Hmm I haven't heard of this issue but will definitely look into it. The Activities (icon rows) are not cached and are loaded when you enter the details screen so they should represent the current state (ie: blue = hidden).
In the next few days I'll be putting out an updated release that will contain filtering which would have made it easier to locate what you hid. Sorry for your troubles.
Just uploaded version 1.0.5. Only change is to filter Apex Launcher from the list of available applications since it doesn't like being hidden. As always shoot me an email at [email protected] and I'll be more than happy to help.
I assume that pretty much any launcher is going to react the same way if it's the active launcher and you're hiding it.
Anyway thanks for the quick response.

App I really love is:
MyPhoneExplorer
You just simply install it on phone, later on on PC. You can connect your phone via USB, BT or WIFI. Works for me perfect - very easy files shering (including folders), contact edit... and there is much more!

Now that I am on 4.2.2, DashClock widget and extension series is a must for me.
Along with it, a third party launcher app like Apex or Nova is a must for UI customisations, also WidgetLocker.
For root, SetCPU is a must too. Great battery saver for 4.1.2, but not on 4.2.2 as I try recently.
For daily tasks, GTasks is a must for me to organise things better.
I don't like bright screen in dark place, so Screen Filter works perfectly for me to dim the screen further. It works by applying a layer of black wallpaper with transparency over the screen.
Last but not the least, EasyTouch (Apple's assistive touch-like) improves the lifespan for my home and power button (I guess?).
Have you guys heard about Unicon/Icon Themer? It allows you to use those icon themes what are usually for launchers only. I like it and it really works. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=sg.ruqqq.IconThemer

I have to say I think AirAudio is one of the best apps to take advantage of root imo.
My top root apps (in no particular order) are:

Greenify (donation package)
Xposed Installer
Various Xposed modules
Wanam Xposed
Safestrap

I Greenify all of my downloaded apps plus a few system apps like the calculator, calendar, some of the S Pen stuff, etc. If you do decide to Greenify system apps, make sure you are 100% sure of what it is and what it does. Also, if you value Action Memo, don't Greenify it. It took me almost 3 days to figure out why Action Memo wasn't working when I tried to launch it from Air Command and it was because I Greenified it...
The donation package has a feature where GCM push notifications will wake up hibernated apps like Facebook, Tapatalk, Gmail, etc and will allow hibernated weather apps to auto update at their regular intervals. This makes the paid version worth it for me. It is a bit buggy though and doesn't always work.

Nova Launcher, AppLock, Bluetalk, Xposed, Repeating Notification, Battery Doctor, Profile Scheduler, Advanced Task Killer, Lock Screen, Android Assistant, Hibernation Manager, Greenefy, Flat Style Bar Indicators, Aqua Mail). Some on this apps is almost a "must have" for me, perhaps others will be not so important on the Max 2. What apps do you have?
Since there is a working root method,i don't see why you will have any problem installing any of these apps.

I run a ported HTC Sense Launcher on mine... works great!!! Definitely has root method, so at some point, almost everything will work. I tend to stay stock as I get rid of phones quickly and just install what works on non-rooted. To note, I have Google Play Store and all google apps installed, received OTA and still works 100%... don't know how as other have their Play Store break after update.... I guess I'm just lucky :fingers-crossed:
where do you have the HTC Sense Launcher?

This form is for people to post/share apps that improve your experience with your phone.
Please note keep your "forbidden" apps off the list
Android version
App/tweak | improvement | Price
Please be appropriate.
I'll start off
Android 10 oos
Swift installer, swaps themes for desired apps(dark mode for apps), paid
MacroDroid, automated Android-- (does automated functions-move files to "correct folders", free versions allows 6 modules with nearly unlimited functions.
Gravity box for Android 10, allows modifications to the system, free
Microsoft authentication, authentication app for 2 step login, free
Xda labs, obvious but for xda forms, free
Mixplorer - file explorer that has a great ui (I use black/blue theme)
EdXposed, allows tweaks and more, free (removed due to lagged device. Running magisk to run riru, to run edexposed kinda sucks.)
Apps that don't work as intended
Titanium Backup (delete system apps, freeze apps, backup phone info and apps) doesn't delete system apps due to OnePlus file structure.
Swipeback2 (swipe from the edge to go back) caused black screen issues
Edits: added more apps and info
Swift backup - titanium looks weak when you compare the two apps

Titanium had a good run, but it's time for a new king. Swift's UI is more user friendly too.

I use volume slider. The paid version had more options, but it allows you to adjust brightness, call volume, media volume and a few others just by swiping up and down on your designated sides.
For me, Tasker is King and an absolute must have for me on all my devices.
Then there's the following:
Afwall+
Bromite
Solid Explorer
Swift backup
Fdroid
Aegis (2fa)
Viper4android
Markor
Nzb360
FolderSync is used to backup the native call recorder.
Plus Beat is used to overcome the AOD Lack. (OPAODmod block chrome, and other AOD apps are heavy battery consumers, or disabling face recognition unlock).
Edxposed modules:
- Xposed edge
- gravity box
- Xprivacy lua

Its only works best when you flash new ROMs. For individual apps and other functionality swift is the choice.
Sync pro if you're a Reddit addict like me

Can Swift backup be used without requiring root? At least to backup just the apks to the cloud and possibly allowed transfer of apps between devices.

No you can backup apps but it will be one at a time (the apps circle on top)
Have yet to backup apps due to issues that use to occur when using titanium Backup.
Seems it's just missing contacts backup
titanium backup is the number one on my list, without this app, my android experience would be miserable.
swype keyboard (so sad it's dead project, but still works better than any other keyboard, as well as it had the highest amount of features)
swift backup is total waste, hate that garbage.
Google backup is a real trash, so glad that we can turn this waste off.
