Samsung Internet 4 update for phones (Galaxy S4 and up) - Galaxy Note 3 General

In a very surprising move by Samsung (for me and my Note 3 at least xD), the new Samsung Internet 4 update is also made available for all Samsung Galaxy devices S4 and up (also includes the A series).
Like other new Samsung apps published on the Play Store, I thought it would only include the S7 & S6 series and the Note 5 & 4. But thankfully more Samsung user base can benefit from the new update =) Hopefully this will include other Samsung apps like the Gallery and Music apps. Those definitely need some performance boost.
Features include improved aesthetics, performance and security (especially for phones with fingerprint scanners) and most importantly, Content Blocking API for adblock support with apps such as Adblock Fast and Crystal!!!! =D
You should get the update on the Play Store (can't find it on Apk Mirror at the moment so just wait for the Play Store update) =)
I now hate Samsung a little less =P

Better performance compared to chrome

Doesn't work on CM13
Downloaded the apk from Apkmirror but it doesn't even complete the installation process. Guess it needs Touchwiz to work properly.

I think its only for LL..... my Note 3 is still KK and it says not compatible.... sigh....

Samsung Apps

Why is Samsung Apps (the store) removed from custom ROMS, for instance, sky ICE? They offer some good apps sometimes, and also offer sale/discounts. Is there a way to install it back?
u can get all those apps from market. I think you're the first person I've seen who actually wants it.
You can extract the apks from stock image but you may lose the advanced integration since its been removed from the settings menu in sky ics.
You can also try mhx-superlite, which is stock and has the market still, but has a lot of other bloat removed
Ok thanks. Like I said, sometimes they offer good deals, last month they had Asphalt 6 free. Also, they have Voice talk (vlingo but customized) specifically for Galaxy 2, among other things.

Samsung Official Android KitKat Update

Samsung recently announced qualifiers of Android 4.4 KitKat update coming in February with continuation in the coming months. Galaxy S4, S3, Note 3, Note 2 and more have been named for smartphones but what about tablets? Here are the complete list of larger Galaxy devices getting the latest firmware.
Samsung Official Listing
In addition to the Samsung Galaxy smartphones receiving the official Android KitKat such as Galaxy S4, Note 3, S3 and Note 2, several Galaxy devices with larger screens are also getting the same treatment starting in February and upcoming months.
Selected Galaxy slates receiving Android KitKat update are:
1. Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition
2. Galaxy Note 10.1
3. Galaxy Note 8.0
4. Galaxy Tab 3 7.0
5. Galaxy Tab 3 8.0
6. Galaxy Tab 3 10.1
On top of Android 4.4 KitKat firmware, the devices above may also receive the newest TouchWiz UI magazine-style which can only be found on PRO editions of Galaxy Note and Tab slates.
Samsung Change Logs
Samsung aims to provide more intuitive and better user experience on Galaxy devices running Android 4.4 KitKat OS. Upgrading these devices will improve system performance, app computability and enhancements on Google services.
1. Location Menu for integrated location menu to easily enable Wi-Fi, GPS and mobile networks with battery usage monitor of apps using location services.
2. Enhanced Messaging enable users to choose between the default Samsung messaging app or Google's Hangouts app with SMS/MMS support. Moreover, Emoji icon database also received new additions.
3. Upgraded GMS or Google Mobile Service for automatic backup of photos and videos which can be opened, viewed, renamed and shared via Google documents.
Update Schedule
Sadly, Samsung Mobile didn't clarify rollout schedule to their customers and simply imply that an update is coming out. Due to the lack of information when the rollout will strike, you can use these basis in order to find out if your Galaxy Note and Tab slates are receiving updates.
1. Launch the built-in software update app on your device. Go to Settings > About device > Software update > Check now. Normally, the device will detect any updates if connected to Wi-Fi.
2. Use your computer by downloading and installing Samsung Kies PC suite. Open the program then connect your device. It will detect any updates automatically as long as your machine is connect to the Internet.
3. Contact your network carrier especially if you are located in the United States for they need to modify the firmware according their variants. This is highly recommended so you can confirm if the OTA update or new firmware from Samsung Kies is the same with the network carrier's version.

I'm very skeptical if the wifi version of the 7 in tab gets the update. Hopefully, the devs can put out a rooted version, though.
this is like the 5th post about this already..

Samsung WatchON (by Peel) for Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition - FINAL EDIT

This thread is no longer needed. As of May 20, 2014, Peel has released their version of the Smart remote for most phones. It shows up in the Play Store for the Galaxy S4 GPE.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=tv.peel.app
If you cannot download this app or any other preferred app, use the following URL:
http://apps.evozi.com/apk-downloader/
Background:
Sometime shortly after the release of Android 4.3 (not 4.4), Peel stopped supporting our GPe model with this app. I've emailed them repeatedly, but their customer support is...challenged. Literally all they will do is email you back and suggest that you email their customer support... So now we need to take it upon ourselves to ensure that this useful app works on our device. I will use this thread to maintain current working versions for our device.
Samsung WatchOn (Galaxy S4):
-Samsung WatchON 6.4.4 - supplied and hosted by jaykresge
-Samsung WatchON 6.4.2 - supplied and hosted by jaykresge
-Samsung WatchON 6.2.6 - supplied and hosted by dong2007
Samsung WatchOn (Galaxy S5):
-Samsung WatchON 1.2.00.92 - supplied and hosted by jaykresge
Ongoing Request:
If at anytime the Play Store version is newer than what we have available for side loading, I request that someone with a supported Touchwiz variant of the Galaxy S4 download and extract the APK and PM me a link. After I verify that it works on the S4 GPE, I will post a download link for other users, giving credit to the person who extracted it.
Finished testing 6.4.2. It works and is now uploaded.
Of note is that it has a new UI that matches Touchwiz on the S4. Interface is also smoother and more responsive. Old version will be left up for those who prefer the older UI. However, it is my intent to maintain older releases anyway.

The watch-on app had a great update that supports Air-Conditioner remotes (AC) But with the Galaxy S5 version, the AC is gone, any way to fix it, or they just removed it?

You'll have to ask that on the Galaxy S5 forums. This is a Galaxy S4 thread on a Galaxy S4 forum. I only posted a link to the Galaxy S5 version as a reference (so users here don't search "Samsung WatchON" on Google Play, find the S5 version, and tell me that my links are outdated).
If we find that the S5 version works on the S4, I'll check into that for you in the future. But for now, best to post your question on the S5 forums.

I have an S4 I9505 and I have the S5 WatchON because I flashed a rom which included some note-3 or S5 apps (not sure).
The S5 WatchON has a new changed UI but it doesn't have the same features as the old watchON and I just wondered why did they remove the AC remote feature.

That's something that you'll have to ask the developer. Forgive me for not being able to help with this.
The s5 Version works an my s4!

Does anyone have an issue where it says "Default string" in the notification bar?
Added the S5 version as a download. Please note that I had constant force closes when attempting to use it on the S4 Google Play Edition.
It seems the S4 version is no longer on Google Play. Can anyone else confirm? My link is dead and it's no longer listed under Peel's apps. However, Peel's website is now showing a smart remote app for a phone, which I'm aware of them having in development for awhile now. It's still unreleased at the moment.
6.4.4 hosted, minor update.
As of May 20, 2014, Peel has released the app for the Galaxy S4 GPE and many other phones. It's a universal app using the same core features as their Touchwiz variants with a more neutral interface.

In that case, use the URL that I linked you, and try all three. Use the one that you prefer.
ok, this is weird. when i first saw this post, the samsung app store showed 5/19 for the release date of version 14032701.2.00.92. now it is showing 5/29 (2 days ago) --- for the same version number?!? is there a new version, or not?
i'm on the verizon galaxy note 3. the s5-friendly variant of watchon (which i prefer) isn't available in any stores and neither is the official peel smart remote. :grr:
thanks also... i was able to use the apk in the op and it worked, just trying to keep it current. someday it will be available to all.

Samsung Apps for Nexus 5?

Do we have any Samsung Apps that are ported to Nexus 5? There are some stock apps from Google that I don't like and want to use Samsung apps instead.
Apps I need are: Samsung Camera, Samsung Gallery
I am running Android Lollipop 5.0.1
If Samsung apps are not ported then please tell me if we have Sony, HTC or CyanogenMod Apps ports..
Ported apps will usually be found in the themes and apps section. Browse through the section and you'll see what's available.
But, Samsung apps, and the others, tend to rely on the manufacturer framework to function. (like touchwiz for Samsung) So it's very difficult and in most cases impossible to use the apps outside of their prospective stock firmwares.

[MOD] Working Samsung Gear App and IconX (2018) for non-Samsung devices.

I wanted some new earbuds for the gym that would actually stay in my ears. I watched a lot of reviews on YouTube. I considered Air by crazybaby Nanos till I heard of the connection problems they had with the Micros. Finally I found the 2018 model of the IconXs.
The IconXs aren't going to blow you away, but they are a very good alternative to Airpods. Especially if you want more of a closed ear for passive noise canceling. They also majorly improved the battery life over last year's model. I was also able to buy them for $150 instead of the normal $200, because of Black Friday.
They have one Achilles heel though. The Android app only wants to work on Samsung phones. For other Samsung Gear someone created a modified app, and posted it to XDA. But the support for IconXs is added by a plugin. There is also one for the older model, and one for the newer model. For extra fun the app and the plugins have to be signed with the same key. But since the new 2018 plugin is so new, it hasn't been posted on XDA.
The app makes it easier to pair them with your phone. It lets you remap gestures and taps for control. It lets you load music on the 4gb of internal storage. It lets you control if it mixes in the environment with what is playing.
I am really disappointed in Samsung for locking the app to their phones. They seem to be a good to great hardware company, but seem to not understand software on some level.
I had to download the modified app, and the 2018 IconX plugin. Then I had to sign both on my laptop. Then I uploaded the modified copies to my phone, and installed them. Now it just works!
Instructions:
Download both apks, and sign.jar. Then run "java -jar sign.jar file.apk" once per apk. You will end up with two files with the same names, but with a .s prefixed before apk. Get those on the phone, and install them. You will need "Unknown sources" enabled on your phone.
Using this program to sign them isn't ideal. There are probably better ways to do this.

Is this still needed? Trying to decide if my force.closes are related to Android_P or non-Samsung device.
Following this I am also getting FC running Note3 SM-N9005. Custom ROM 6.1.1 no root.
Resigned Galaxy Gear cannot find the IconX 2018
Hi there.
Thanks for the thread.
I did what you suggested and I was able to install Galaxy Gear. I also installed the resigned iconX 2018 plugin but since it's not an app you can open, I don't really have an indication if it worked or not.
When I open Galaxy Gear, it's not able to find my earbuds even when I have them in my ears (it's not detecting them even though my BT is on).
How did you detect the IconX 2018???
Thanks.
Note: I also tried a resigned Samsung Wearable (the new renamed Gear app) but even resigned, I wasn't able to install it at all (usual error message).
Are you just resigning the app? didn't change any code in the app?
I bought gear iconx today,i have honor note 8 which i really liked, after 1 hour i have managed to work iconx 2018 plug in properly,in order to work this apk you need modified gear iconx apk posted here and you need to download samsung accessory service apk from play store and that's it,now you got fully operating gear apk.
Here is the samsung app
