Oneplus one: Connected but, no internet - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everybody,
I am using an oneplus one running cm-13.0-20160316-SNAPSHOT-ZNH0EAO1QB-bacon and the kernel provided by cyanogen, and I am using xposed. My wifi had been working fine all day but when I went to work and got back I had the following problems: It would connect just fine but there would be an exclamation mark besides the wifi-logo on the statusbar. And inside the wifi-settings there would be text under the wifi I was connected with, stating: Connected, but no internet. This is what I tried up untill now:
-Turning modem/router on and off
-"Rebooting" my TP-link modem using their website
-Switching to cm-nightlies
-Switched to an older lollipop backup
-After that I dirty-flashed the stable cm13 release without installing xposed
I heard some people on the internet saying that there could be a problem with my kernel, but I haven't tried anything with that yet. My worst fear is that it would be a hardware problem related to the fact that I led my phone fall about two months ago. My screen had to be replaced but the sim-tray is still broken. I still need to replace that. Also the grill that is on the top off the top bezel of the phone went off, I think that it's the mic for calls, but I don't know for sure. I am really anxious about this, please help me.
UPDATE;
This seems to be a problem related to my home wifi, because other wifi's work just fine. Too bad that my knowledge in this field is very lacking...

Did you finally find a solution? I have the same problem, only at home and only with my phone (no problem with my computer)...

go into you router settings and change your wireless setting to the following:
wireless channel - 10
wireless mode - 802.11 b/g/n
if the above wireless mode dont work, try the other modes. usually this is set at auto and may confuse wifi on phones

I'm having the exact same problem. WiFi at home works great with PC+Win10, but I can't manage to make it work on the OPO.
It says "connected with no internet" or "connected" but then I can't navigate, and also the device appear as not connected on the router admin page.
WiFi on the OPO works fine at work or other places. I really have no idea why this is happening. I'll try to flash an update.

[Q] Wifi signal high but no internet connection (Samsung Galaxy i5500)

I just upgraded my router to a wireless one. Firstly, it's connected via ethernet to a PC and it is happily getting internet access.
On my i5500 I get a strong wifi signal. Wifi Analyser shows the signal at max constantly. I can also connect with Gmote and it works just fine.
The problem is that I can't actually access the net at all from the phone.
So basically I know that my phone is talking to the router with no problem. It's just getting out onto the internet.
Does anyone know of a solution?
try logging into your router and change the broadcast channel to something else and test it again. it should be something like a/b/g mode... define a single channel and see if it works.
I had originally thought that was working. It did for the first few minute where I had connection but then it just dropped.
I have noticed that I have some very small bursts where I can connect.
Do you think that trying the different channels may be the solution?
I have the same problem. Have you found a solution?
Still no solution. I went through every channel and every encryption method.
So far I've found that having the channel set on 'Auto' and then disabling encryption seems to give me internet connection through WIFI for at least the initial period but it eventually drops. But that's also not always.
I've also Googled it to death and found nothing. If you do find the solution please post it here and I'll do the same.
Maybe we can help each other.
make sure you entered the right password of wlan.
use a pc to connect the router and in the wlan you'll find the password.
Ok, just to clarify. My phone connects to the Router via WLAN. In fact I can use Gmote to control my PC. So the WLAN connection is great.
The problem is accessing the internet when using that connection.
I had similar problems with a router last year. I resolved the issues by flashing DD-WRT firmware. The manufacturer's firmware was junk.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I had that idea but they don't have firmware for my router yet. I have asked them if they intend to make one.
Any chance the firewall on your phone is blocking your browser from using the Wifi?
Sent from my DInc via XDA App
I have no firewall on my phone.
Ok I've tried some new stuff and they I've had the longest connectivity so far (which is about half an hour).
First I made sure my Wifi wasn't set to turn off when the screen goes to sleep. Second, according to a forum I read, Netgear recommends channel 7. If that channels doesn't work try 1,3,6,9,11,13.
I then disabled encryption.
Fortunately no one near me uses Wifi at all and I've got the kind of walls that stop the signal from getting outside.
Anyway. It's working so far but I'll monitor and report.
[edit] And I forgot. The router was checking for firmware but it wasn't actually finding so I downloaded it myself. Seems that also made a difference.
Ok. I can confirm after 2 and a half hours my internet connection is stable. I even left half way through and when I came back it connected perfectly.
So as a summary here's what I did:
1) Get latest firmware
2) Change channel to 7
3) Disable encryption
I will change encryption and see if it still works

[Q] WIFI Connection Issue Asus Transformer

Hey,
Was wondering if anyone had any solutions to this issue.
I can connect to my router with the asus transformer, successfully get an IP, but can not connect to the external web. I can make internal connections, but again, nothing external. I have no problem with my samsung sgs i9000m, various laptops, ipod touch, etc etc..
The router in question is a speedtouch 780 (dsl modem, voip, and router in one). Ive tried various encryption schemes, and even tried to leave it open but to no avail.
I can create a wifi network with both my imac, and with my samsung sgs and the transformer can connect, and also move internet data!
Very weird, I dont even know where to start trouble shooting, can anyone help?

Sounds daft but i assume to have tried rebooting the router .... my router occasionally gets confused based on the sheer number of wifi hardware we have in the house .... otherwise have you tried changing the wifi channel ? read somewhere else that people were having problems with channel 13 ???
hey thanks for the reply.
Yes probably rebooted the router a half dozen times, restored firmware, no go.
Ive bounced around a few channels, doesnt seem to have any effect.
Im really stumped!

no not via the router, the little wifi icon at the bottomcorner stays gray (means connected, but not to the google servers, it goes blue when it does connect to the google servers.)
It does connect and go blue when i create a wifi network from my cell phoneusing my cell data connection

well on the plus side that implies its not a TF hardware or setting issue
not sure I can help on the router front as im no expert have you checked what IP address its allocated ? are you able to see the TF from the router info page ?

yeah im thinking its a router issue.
i can see the transformer, it appears to look exactly the same as all other wifi devices that connect to the router...
stumped =/
Under your wifi settings long press your wireless network under the list of networks available, you should get a "modify network " link pop up, change the setting from DHCP to Static and enter your settings manually. Had a similar issue with an iPod touch once, wouldn't go on the internet unless it had a static address even though all settings were identical to what it pulled from the router using DHCP.
Update Transformer firmware? Leaked official 3.1 is out has updated wifi drivers too.
If no go after that, factory reset the Transformer.

I have the same problem with my TF101, I did all of the above, but the WIFI indicator stays grey. I have a good connection with my router.
When I connect with the router at my work, I have the same. So, the problem is TF101 related. When I bought it two weeks ago, it worked. Two days ago I flashed Prime 1.4, and that worked too. Since yesterday I have this problem, and I tried all to solve it. Other firmware, factory reset....everything. Can somebody please help me with this?
Not sure what this issue is, I never had it with the previous WiFi build, only after the 3.1 changes. I have had several occasions where sitting within 5 ft of router, it would not connect. reboot solved it each time, but I have noticed that it appears dependent on when you unlock during the boot sequence. If you let the boot sequence complete before unlocking, it never happens. If you unlock during the boot sequence, it might.
ASUS Tech Support please note.
@rumbleweed : thanks for the response!
Update : I pushed the original 3.0.1 WW blob to /data/local/ with ADB to unroot my TF101. After that the WiFi icon stayed gray, but I had a working internet connection. Later I updated it to WW 3.1. To be sure I did a factory reset, and now it is working again. First the WiFi notification icon stays gray for a few minutes, but after that it went to blue. I have a unrooted 3.1 WW TF101 now, but I'm happy!

Hi i had this same problem when i first unboxed my Asus TF, Wifi said i was connected to my Linksys router, and i even had an IP address but no internet.
In my frustration y plugged it to my PC which is connected with an ethernet cable to the router and voila, internet icon changed from grey to blue and 2 small arrows started to appear. The internet was now working and i updated the thing from 3.0 to 3.2.
Not sure why this happened but ever since that time i have no problems connecting even on different routers and modems.
Hope this helps.
Had this problem myself from unboxing, tried everything suggested and still no joy.
went and got a linksys router to replace my dlink, everything working fine. tried it with a few networks now and seems to be a problem with dlink routers.
I have this same issue at my school. Up until 3 weeks ago it would always give me blue, then randomly it started staying on white. I can use the net, just not connect to the Google servers.
It works fine everywhere else.
Strange.
Try playing with the wifi disconnect policy?
having a different problem here. been using my home internet since unboxing. all was fine. then one day the connection was grayed. tried rebooting and everything didnt work. i went to setting, clicked forget network. then it never appeared again.
and yeah, its a dlink router. any help ?
Problem: fixed!
I had a solid wifi connection most of the time, complete with a solid blue wifi icon. But my wifi was EXTREMELY slow and intermittent. After a great deal of forum searching and trying every possible suggestion, the solution that finally worked for me was to change the channel on my router from 'Auto' to 6. Flawless connection now, and no more dropped signal.
Hi there,
I tried one thing - took off the lock feature from my transformer and now it's back to normal.
If I turn it back on I am back to square one.
Can anyone figure out how the lock feature affects the WIFI connection ? Is there a bug and is there a fix ?

Jumping in a bit late, but am having similar issues. Just got my TF but have not been able to connect to my dlink router (dir-655 - onlyl couple months old). The router works fine for everything in the house. I know the settings well and have tried many things (went through all channels one by one, messed with different WPA security options, even removed security, etc). Nothing allows me to even connect to the router/network.
In the Wifi settings is jut keeps saying 'connecting...' and 'scanning...' over and over. I am about to take this thing back as I really can't buy a new router at this point (no new firmware for router is available by the way, I checked).
Has anyone confirmed that dlink routers can work with the TF and if so, what are the settings you are using (channel, WPA security settings, dhcp or static, etc)?? This driving me nuts. I want to keep this TF but won't if I can't get it to work at home.
Oh and by the way, when I use my Droid Inc 2 as a hotspot with WPA security, the TF connects without issue. So the TF appears to be fine, it is definitely related to the dlink router.
Thanks!

[Q] Cannot connect to Wifi

Hello,
I searched but I could not find information on this topic in XDA for TF101. I have a TF101, it was running fine and running ww_8.6.5.19 rooted with CWM. I then followed the directions in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1514705 to download the WW version of ICS and flashed that. It was working fine at work. I got home and I could not connect to my wifi at home (which had never been a problem). I can see the wifi, I can click connect, enter the key (WEP). In the top of the settings screen it says Wifi and Connecting... under it, but it does not connect. In the Wi-Fi networks area it shows the network and says under it Remembered, secured with WEP.
I have tried everything I can think of. I have turned it on an off, turned the wifi on and off, reset the wireless router. Then I thought maybe it was an issue with the ICS ROM so I tried a million other ROMS and none seemed to work, I did a data wipe and that did not help. As a last resort I used this tutorial http://theunlockr.com/2011/11/28/how-to-unroot-and-remove-cwm-recovery-on-asus-transformer/ to unroot and return the TF101 to stock. So, I am now sitting with build ww_epad-8.2.3.13-20110511 and I am having the same issue. I cannot connect to the internet at home. (I also tried using WPA and completely open wifi and had the same results I am having now)
Any help would be great. Thanks!
Additional Information
I can get it to connect to my cell phone when I make that a hot spot. The wireless at home is working as I can access it from this laptop I am using, my android phone, and my ipad.
Thanks,
Hi
I wondered whether you actually changed the kernel at one point and then
to another ROM - this caused me a lot of trouble since it led to a non -functional wifi adapter. Worse, I could not connect to
Wifi anymore to download the right kernel
So maybe now your pad is not able anymore to use the full functionality of it's wifi adapter.
For example it is possible that you your rooter is configured to provide not all protocols :
802.11 n.g or b are possible, maybe one is not provided by your rooter but when you tether with your phone .
Another possibility would be non supported channels or channel width - believe me I had all funny combinations already with different devices.
Maybe you first want to check this - I might as well be completely wrong.....
Edit : just checked your provided link - you actually went back to stock? Did you as well use the recovery image or only the
firmware? For me it was unfortunately necessary to go back to a virgin system and use the recovery image.
Update
Okay, I had tried remotely powering down the router last night and it did not fix it. Today I tried unplugging it for a while and that worked. Now I need to research updating from 8.2.3.13.......
I have a feeling its the setup in your wireless router.
First change your wifi router to no security and test connection.. if connects great.. then try WPA and use a new passcode.
Thank you all. I was able to connect (it was the router and I was too damn lazy to unplug it last night) today. So instead of two minutes of walking, unplugging and waiting I have flashed myself silly.
Loving ICS!!!!

Wifi stops working after being left for a while (still connected)

Having an issue with the Tab 2 where you go to pick it up and start browsing after it has been sitting around a while (not sure if the time matters, but it seems like after sitting for most of the day) and the wifi is still connected, but nothing works than needs data. It acts like it would if you had not internet connection. Toggling the wifi off and on will fix the issue and notificaitons and emails start pouring in.
Anyone else have this problem? I found a similar issue on the 7.7 forums but nobody reported a solution and I am not even sure if it would have worked on the Tab 2 anyways. I am thinking about making a script that toggles the wifi automatically if it detects it can't connect to the internet. But that is a little ridiculous needing to do that. It shouldn't be losing connection in the first place.
Hi Pirate
it's a bit depending on the ROM you have installed - but since Android 4 you have a quite reliable setting. The default behavior of Android devices is to deactivate the wifi connection when it goes to sleep.
Some ROMs don't recognize the disconnection and the switch/button still shows "Wifi on" although disconnected.
First step: go to settings / wifi settings, hit the menu button (top right three dots) and check the advanced settings.
Somewhat like "Keep WLAN active in standby" - set this to always.
That should solve it already under android 4.x
If this doesn't help, look into Play Store - search for "wifi keep alive". But for the SGT 2 you shouldn't need it
Greetz - Chris
It was already set to "Always" so I don't think that will help. I will look at that app to see what it does.

wifi turns off when not in use to save battery. I think it might be a default even if you have it set to always on.

The problem is that it never comes back on. Well it shows the wifi icon and the signal and everything but it just doesn't have any data connection. Any apps that use data act like wifi is off. The only way to get it to start working again is to toggle wifi or reboot. I also forgot to mention it is the stock ROM, only rooted. It got the OTA a few days ago too and it has happened since then.
You're not alone

It's the same effing stuff people suggest to every wifi glitch out there.
To people who think it's due to the wifi sleep policy: although I've set it to always, why would wifi not resume, after screen is turned on? It's not the wifi that gets disconnected, it's the internet (or the download speed) that stops working.
To people who suggest it's a power saving feature under low battery conditions: Sorry, I've tested it while charging and with full battery.
To people with the above two arguments: Connection to some routers works perfect with the phone. Like when I turn on the hotspot on another phone, the wifi works great. Also, wifi on the other phone from the same source (laptop used as internet access point) works well.
To people who suggest resetting the router or wifi on phone: The internet does start working again, but only for a few minutes. Even if the screen is turned on, the internet may stop working mid-download.
The actual situation is that the phone disconnects from the internet, but keeps showing a connection to wifi. Like I used connectify hotspot to create an access point, and after a few minutes, the phone moved from "connected clients" list to the "previously connected clients", even as the phone showed connected to wifi with even the download arrows blinking, but no internet (or download speed). This only happens with certain sources (of wifi). And other phones may work well with the same source.
I have tried (several times and in different orders and permutations) the following to no effect:
1. Resetting the router.
2. Resetting the wifi on laptop.
3. Resetting the wifi on phone.
4. Restarting the phone and laptop.
5. Static IPs, gateways and DNSs. (Even though the problem was not with connecting to wifi and even internet works momentarily after resetting wifi).
6. Turning off items controlling wireless network in wireless connection properties.
7. Turning off firewall.
Waiting for a savior.
I know this isn't super helpful but I had the same bug you describe on the previous version of carbon. When I updated to the latest it seems to have stopped.

1. I have had the exact same issue for (atleast) the past 2 years. Have survived by repeatedly turning wifi on and off.
2. I too use connectify. This issue doesnt seem to happen on every wifi connection (just like your case). Even more specifically, it seems to happen ONLY when I connect my phone to the hotspot created via my laptop (connectify).
3. Even when the internet is actually working, some apps do not seem to recognise that(take some time to realize it is working), while others are able to connect instantly. Specifially, whatsapp is unable to send/receive messages for about 1-2 mins, after which I receive a whole bunch of messages at once.
This does not seem to be an issue due to connectify as well. I have tried creating a hotspot from my laptop without using connectify as well, but unfortunately, nothing changed. Further, this does not happen when my phone connects to a hotspot created via connectify by some other pc. The wifi and internet work perfectly fine when connected to a hotspot created via my friends computer.
Further, this problem happens only when a mobile connects to the hotspot. Doesn't occur when another laptop/PC connects (not sure about tablets).
I have looked into every nook and cranny on the internet, explored every forum for any working solution, but have been unsuccessful. In fact, this is the first place where I saw the exact same problem as mine, and was wondering if you have found any solution to it .

I'm having the exact same prob on my ZTE Grand x V 970
It started when i had kitkat and i couldnt even "fix it" restarting the wifi, i had to reset the phone in order to have my wifi work for like 2-5 mins and then stops recieving data, tried to reconnect and stays on turning on wifi.. Now i changed to the stock Rom and the problem is still there but at least now i can "fix it" restarting the wifi connection until certain point.
Issue sharing internet with Connectify from PC
Go to:
Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center
On the left column, click on CHANGE ADAPTER SETTINGS.
You should be in: Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections by now.
Then click on: Microsoft Virtual Miniport Adapter and click on Properties, then click on the 'Configure' button in the 'Networking' tab. From this window, go to the 'Power Management' tab and uncheck 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power'.
This works for me. Try this out
If this doesn't work further, you can try out mHotspot for the same purpose.
I've had the same issue, with the wifi saying it's connected even though it isn't.
This thread is 4 years old and this issue still hasn't been fixed. What a shame.
Same issue here on OnePlus 3 even after factory reset.
I have this same problem after the security patch Mid March to Jan 1, 2019. The WIFI doesn't show in the top status bar, but toggling wifi off/on fixes it till the next overnight. I did make one change to my wireless about that same time and that was moving the min connect speed from 6Mbps to 12Mbps to help with bandwidth issues being cause by devices using low speeds and having several SSID broadcast. My S7 and Tab A both work fine - so I think it was something in the security patch.

tethering problem, wifi connection constantly going on and off

My work network went down earlier so i thought i would just tether the laptop to my S8 over wifi and use my 4g connection instead. But the laptop constantly connects then disconnects about 2 seconds later, over and over again (I can see it in the hotspot settings on the phone thta it appears as a connected device then vanishes immediately after). Tried turning hotspot on and off again on the phone, made no difference. Normal wifi use on my phone seems ok, its just this wifi hotspot that doesnt seem to work properly. Using exynos version on AQDD.
I'm having the same problem tethering my s8 to my android head unit. I connected to my tv box just fine, but I see the same cycle as you when I try to connect to my HU. I previously connected my S6 to the HU with no issues. The only thing I can think of is I used Smart Switch to copy everything from my S6 to S8 and it copied tethering settings as well and maybe that messed something up. I've changed the network name and password but that didn't help.
I finally got mine to work. I changed the security setting to open, and it connected. I then turned on only allowed devices and added the mac address of the head unit.
