samsung note 5 anway to get the always on screen from s7 - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note5

Since the note 5 and samsung s7 have the same type of screen is there anyway to get the always on screen feature from the s7 on the note 5???

i was also curious about this. not sure if i would even use but curious none the less.

It will happen eventually once someone port the rom . Anything is possible on android the htc g1 running marshmallow or windows phone running Android i say its very likely it will happen when a port come avaliable. The person that use to port roms for the note 5. sac disappeared in thin air . The guy could port anything might not be 100% functional but more than usable for daily use

android 5.0 is going to be last major update!

We all know that most android phone get supported for 18 month thats a year and a half making your devices almost getting to major updates , so our note 3 original came with 4.3 jellybean and receive (update 1) which is 4.4.2 kit-kat and will receive (update 2) which is 5.0 lollipop am talking about touchwiz am sure there will be newer rom but aosp based stock , we all saw early build of lollipop update in (note 3 9005) and seems also the exynos version may get it also ,
so this thread is about answering these questions?
do you think that samsung may keep supporting our note 3 after 5.0 lollipop released ?
are there going to be developers that can port next touchwiz android which is 6.0 or android m or newer than that ?
what do you feel about knowing that your device never supported ?
Most likely not. They're in the business to sell hardware not keep old hardware running.
I'm sure but by time 6.0, M or whatever comes out the Note 5 or 6 will most likely be out.
Doesn't matter. Technology advances, but when I had the original galaxy there were roms with the latest OS. from devs. It all goes back to...Samsung is in the business to sell hardware not OS updates.
Even if they do, by the time a new Android is released, I'll most likely have bought a new phone.
It will continue to get small upgrades, but it will not get any more major ones.
This is nothing new.
As long as there aosp roms i'm happy
touchwiz are the best

What is bothering you so much? even it hasnt received 5.0 and who can tell what will be the next.
Samsung cant even answer your question bcoz this is ridiculous.
What can you do if 5.0 is the last update for Note 3?
This is wasting time.

1-what bothering me is that maybe newer features supported by a new version of android our note 3 not supported yet and i know we will never get that features ported to our note 3 so will be developers who can port a full android version like s3 which get kit-kat ported to international i9300 custom based rom.
2-i just try to guess maybe newer android is going to be android m or what ever will be
3-i don't care about there answer nor i asking them i ask developers here and owners of note 3 like me
4-emmm i will just stick to 5.0 and when new os came and my note never supported i think i will just came hear to see if they can do something like s3 done
Note 3 still kicks butt. I'll look forward to 5.0.
actually

[Q] Where are all the roms???

I've been using this phone since it first came out on T-Mobile. I've been pretty excited about it but the lack of Roms makes me feel like I should of just brought the note 4. I mean there's a bunch of Roms for that. Im the type that changes my ROM every week to keep it feeling new. We don't have cm12 yet or nothing and I get pretty anxious waiting. I check everyday expecting something to be added and everyday I get disappointed. I'm thinking about trading my edge for a note 4 in a sec but I really don't want to. Does anyone know if there is going to be more Roms anytime soon or what?
You could. .. develop one

First, in the first month the Note 4 sold 4.5 million units; Samsung says they are not even going to make 1 million units for the Note Edge.
The Note Edge is something new, and not meant for everybody; not to mention about $100 more than the Note 4. So a much smaller market is going to purchase the Edge (smaller market = smaller development).
Not to mention all development for the Edge and I would also guess the Note 4 is pretty much at a standstill until Andriod 5.0 (lollipop) is released on are phone, as there is no point starting a new ROM when you know you will have to build one from scratch in about a month.
I have a white T-Mobile Note 4 I will gladly trade you for if you feel the Note Edge is not for you. But I will tell you right now, there will not be nearly the development for the Note Edge as the Note 4. Just be thankful you have a T-mobile Note Edge, as some of the other providers have nothing for development so far.
This is just an ignorant post. You want Roms? Develop them yourself and then complain about why there isn't a plethora of Roms. If you wanted unlimited amount of Roms to try out I'm sorry to inform you that you chose the wrong device. It's been mentioned before that the quantity of this phone even produced doesn't even come close to how many note 4 was sold. Of course you will not see as much development especially on a niche device like this. aosp Roms would obviously limit you use of the edge so it would be pointless imo to flash something like CM rom. If you just want a debloated deodexed rom you can achieve most of it through root and titanium backup if you're savvy enough. 5.0 isn't released for the edge or the note 4 while CM has moved onto 5.0. Who in their right mind would develop a 4.4.4 rom a month presumably before 5.0 comes out and they gotta rebuild all from scratch again, you? If you don't think the edge is not for you sell or trade it to someone who would actually appreciate it or desires it because clearly I don't ever see someone like you being able to be satisfied with a phone like this. Maybe some research before heading out to buy a $1000 device could've done you some good too. When I got mine I saw that the 915S was the only one with someone even attempting to create a custom kernel and decided that it would see the most amount of development and snagged one. UpInTheAir has been providing great development for my device with both rom and kernel. We worked very hard putting lots of hours in trying to test so that he could achieve a stable build. With 1 post since joining in 2010 how have you contributed to the development community other than complaining that there's not enough Roms for you to flash and try.

possibility of AOSP roms for Exynos Galaxy S6

So I've been thinking of swapping out my Galaxy S6 for either a Oneplus two or Nexus 6P
It's not that I hate the galaxy S6 as it is, but the damn touchwiz sometimes ruins the experience. Considering the closed source nature of the Exynos, is there even a possibility in the near future for the S6 to have near stock android roms like Cyanogenmod? I do want to stay with the S6 because of the beastly exynos chip and the great camera, and also android marshmallow is coming near for the galaxy devices, it's just that the software is kinda laggy.
can you give me some of your thoughts?
There is an active github for development of a CM ROM. That said, I'm not dev savvy enough to know where it stands and don' want to bother the Dev as that is pretty close to an ETA question. But it is in the works. Not too thrilled with the new Nexus devices personally. too large in form factor or underwhelming in specs.

Same. I'd really love to have an AOSP rom for the Galaxy S6. Only reason I'm looking forward for the nexus or onplus devices is because of the stock android experience. Tbh, Touchwiz can be kinda boring, and lagging sometimes. Not to mention the horrible RAM management. If it weren't for the Exynos chip, I would have gotten the Oneplus or Nexus devices lol
As of late, I've seen the thread where a certain dev was working on CM, but I think on the last post on that thread, i believe he closed it due to lack of people working on it. I dunno
Hopefully someone can clarify if there really is a dev working on an AOSP, I really want to stay with the S6.

With the proper kernel settings and ROM, this phone is as smooth as nexus device with much faster loading times for apps. Not to mention great multitasking (literally had 15 apps open at once and none of them reloaded) and amazing battery life ~6hr SOT. I can say that Vindicator kernel with xtrestolie is one of the best
There are some opengl problems with 5.1.1 tw roms. So the performance is not good as 5.0.1. I am also considering to change my phone to nexus 6P.

to be honest, with the available custom roms and kernels right now for galaxy s6, the s6 runs almost 99 % smooth, no stuttering whatsoever. I'm using Xtrolite with unikernel set on medium profile, the device is flawless in terms of software (excluding the ram management of course).
but yeah, I'm really hoping for AOSP roms, particularly Cyanogenmod. Can someone confirm if certain devs are working on it? I'm willing to donate
Im pretty sure we will see cyanogenmod 13 aprox a month after the first marshmallow release of samsung for any exynos 7420 device.
reasons?
1. Big demand since there are 4 exynos 7420 devices (s6, s6 edge+, s6 edge plus and note 5)
2. This also means there is a bigger dev base compared to older exynos devices from samsung.
And srsly guys do you think the phone of the year wont get aosp? We just need a bit more patience.
1% near impossible, well at least a stable rom.

Yes, however, many developers don't even think of the S6 because of the S2 (CM built but LAGGY).
I doubt Arter would try to develop CM for the S6, he develops the Note 5 ROM which I use

Vindicator i personally think blows every kernel out of the water. Best battery life by far but performance does take a hit unless you get kernel aduitor and set enforcing mode to 1 in interactive governor settings for both cores. That will make your phone smoother than any other kernel by far. Battery life is still much better than any other kernel. GPU overclocking is also included which i like lol. The only problem is the very rare crash to lockscreen that sometimes happens on the test builds (which are the best ones).

Galaxy Note 3 N9005 Snapdragon SoC / Custom Roms

Hi All,
Im not new to this custom rom thing, i swiched from BB to a Samsung Galaxy 2, and been a galaxy fan ever since, and rooted every single one of em, along with custom roms.
But i'm geniunly stuck now, if you google note 3 custom roms its staggering, but almost all of them ive found and theres a few have issues.
Im tired now and my head hurts, what i want is Android 6 Rom, i dont care about the spen i never use it, i dont care that NFC might not work, but i must have something that allows the device to be used all day every day, so wifi, calls DATA, 4g would be nice since the device supports it, but i know how ficcle roms can be from time to time.
So can anyone share there personal experiance of the custom rom there using along with anything that doesnt work as expected, so i can attempt to make a more informed decision about my choices
Thanks all in advance

[Question] Is it possible to port other sd845 roms to the OnePlus6?

Is it possible to port other sd845 roms to the OnePlus6? I just saw that the US Snapdragon Galaxy S9 Samsung Pie beta build has been released so their official build probably isn't far off.
I was wondering if it is possible to port other sd845 roms like this one to our phone?
What is required?
Kernel source from the other ROM I assume? (and same kernel version number?)
And someone who knows how to rebuild the kernel for the OnePlus6?
I don't really know how to do these things myself, I'm just wondering if anyone knows if it would be possible, cheers
Possible? Perhaps.. But so much work for nothing that developers just will drop the idea.

It is nearly impossible. Especially for a Samsung rom, which are some of the most sophisticated and bloated roms in the industry.
Its nearly impossible because Samsung rom need lots of work you need to work on every single app to make it work because they made everything work with framework they made like iphones this is why no app ports available from Samsung they added lots of features & apps into their os so they also don't Know sometimes where the problem come from if you see Samsung devices work fast in Start then slow down in few weeks.

You're talking about porting individual Samsung apps. Yes, it's a huge headache. I know because I've done it a long time ago on older android versions, but that wasn't my question.
My question is about porting the entire rom. This way you don't have to port each app to work on a new device, because the phone will think it IS the galaxy S9. This way the Samsung framework will be included in the rom port and the apps will all work (because they are dependent on the Samsung framework to run). The difficulty lies in getting the slightly different components (other than the sd845 processor) of the OnePlus 6 to work with the S9 rom

Since you already know about porting, and Samsung roms, shouldn't you already know the answer?
I don't remember ever seeing a Samsung rom ported to another device. But that goes back about 10 years, so maybe my memory is not good. In either case, porting a Samsung rom now would be much more difficult than 10 years ago because the complexity of their roms increases exponentially.
Appreciate if anyone is working on other skins rom!?

Your right. It hasn't been done. Also it wouldn't be legal to Port Samsung's proprietary files. HTC shut it down when people started porting their stuff.
The chip might be the same but all the other hardware isn't

I see your point, but just because something has never been done before doesn't mean it's not possible. Nothing in our world would have ever been invented if everyone had that mentality.
I was just saying that removing dependencies from individual apps wouldn't be necessary if the framework and whole rom was ported across to this device. I have very basic knowledge of android and I'm not a programmer but I was able to get the Samsung clock app to work on AOSP/any android device years ago, it just took a lot of trial and error and removing all the touchwiz dependencies etc. I remember playing around with the Samsung camera app trying to get it to work because the Cyanogenmod camera was so crap back then too but never got that to work. Yes I can only imagine how complex they would be making their apps and software these days.
I guess what I'm saying is that if I could manage to port the clock app and get it to work with little knowledge, I can't help but wonder what someone who knows a lot more about android development could do, this is basically what I was trying to say in my first post.

This is what I'm saying in the first post, with my limited knowledge I understand that a lot of the hardware info and drivers are in the kernel? I assume it'd be a matter of Samsung releasing their kernel source for their pie build and then a oneplus 6 kernel being built with what's needed to boot a Samsung rom with oneplus 6 drivers built into the kernel? I guess I'm asking because I honestly don't know what is or would be involved, that and I'm just curious.
It's a bit of a hypothetical question I guess

Nothing is impossible. The real question is who will go through with the work of actually doing it?
Most people see Samsung in particular not the greatest example of software so it's a daunting task with little to gain from it overall. Unless if you're paying someone a hefty amount I can't see it happening anytime soon. At most maybe a Samsung like theme is the best we can get
Buy a S9+ and enjoy with their ****ty UI
Yeah, thanks for your input and amazing contribution to the conversation there @DamiDev :good:
In my whole time using Android (2009) I've seen about one successful HTC port and probably five TouchWiz attempts that people gave up on. It's not worth the time or effort for a closed source system that isn't anything worthwhile to begin with
Fair point @crixley
It's annoying that OEMs take an open source project and turn it into a closed source rom
