No VPN on Marshmallow - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

After I updated my sprint galaxy s6 edge to marshmallow OTA, VPN is not working for me. I have tried more than 5 different VPN apps, but none of them work. They say they are connected, but as soon as I switch to a new app, they stop working. VPN worked fine before I updated, but now it is not. Please help!

I've got this problem too, on chinese 9250

Go to Settings > More > VPN
Set up your VPN in there. I've set up VPN on my Galaxy S6 and S7 using L2TP IPSec with a signed certificate from GoDaddy.
I had it working on the S7 with a PSK also. Both phones are running Android v 6.0.1 Marshmallow.
It's strange but the VPN connection settings are different. My S6 is a Sprint phone, and I can't assign it a Certificate Authority. But the Verizon S7 won't let me save the VPN connection without a CA. I have to install the certificates in different ways for each phone as well. Very odd.
Anyway good luck.

Could you tell me how to do this please?

same problem for me Samsung s6 edge android 6..0.1 VPN apps work.... cyberghost / opera max/ and the rest .
PS after Zamber88 suggestion go to settings>> battery>app power saving > turn off for opera max or other vpn app.
PPS: if that is not enough do this: Settings >>Battery >> Battery Usage >> more (right up cornet button) >> Optimize battery usage >> select All apps and choose your VPN app and turn off .
also if in OPERA MAX when u use mobile data u get the error "enable background data " is because of the power saving.
CASE CLOSE !

That's a really strange issue. We did a lot of testing on MM with Nexus devices and everything works as intended. We even have a S6 Edge with MM that works fine (SM-G925F with one of the Unknown build listed on sammobile IIRC).
All I can come out with now is that you could try checking if there aren't any battery saving features interfering with the VPN apps.

Solved.
S6 edge.. disabled powersaving features. Vpns are working fine. Strange but cant figure out how powersaving is meddling with vpn. Solved.

Its not power saving . its restrict background data . just off the restrict background data and will work fine

I'm not sure if anyone can help me over here, but I'm not finding anything in the Nexus forums. Since @zamber88 did MM testing with Nexus, maybe you can help me with my Nexus 6. I have a 10 day trip to China coming up in a couple weeks and really need to get VPN working.
Google searches haven't helped, except to point me here. I have purchased VPN Unlimited and tried it with their app and an OpenVPN app. I got a free Galaxy J7 as a spare through the T-Mobile promotion a while back, and both apps work on it with no changes at all. Neither work on my Nexus 6, despite turning off power saving and restricting background data for both apps.
When I select a server, the J7 the Allow connection pops up, I OK it, and connect. On my Nexus 6, the refused to grant permission pops up. See the attached screenshots.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'll try to cover all of the bases from easiest to most cumbersome. Given you have some time on your hands this should helpful. Read through the list before doing anything and once you start doing stuff note it down as you're going so that we'll be able to pinpoint any other problems that could pop up. If you succeed then you'll have an answer pretty much ready for posting .
Reboot. Sometimes freshly installed VPN apps fail exactly like the screenshots show.
Try setting up a VPN connection with another app. Shameless plug: Opera Max, Opera VPN (note: there's an issue in Max which makes some VPNs disconnect after a couple of minutes so make sure to kill it before running any other VPNs).
Scan the device with Avast, AVG and Avira to rule out any worms.
Rule out any other apps interfering by booting into safe mode and try connecting again (with your app and, Opera Max for a sanity check).
If you don't want to commit to steps that will follow (or the step before this one succeeded) remove apps from least to most needed retesting with your app and Max after each uninstall.
Upgrade to Android Nugat. It shouldn't break anything and could potentially fix this issue. Either ways it's always a good idea to upgrade when updates are available. It's not like you're on iOS .
Now it's a god time to make a backup (frankly, anytime is good for a backup). If you went over with uninstalling apps making one will be easier. If you have root on your device you probably have TWRP, make a backup with it and download it to your PC. You could also make a Titanium backup if you're not big on setting up basic apps but it's optional. If you don't have root just backup all sensitive data (photos, videos, settings if it's possible to export these in-app). Also note down all apps you can't live without. Google Play has a history of installed apps but going through it is a pain and the "Copy settings from another device" option when setting up a fresh device is helpful but will not restore in-app settings. Also I would advise to not use it given that the culprit can sill be lurking in your apps.
MAKE THAT BACKUP, there's no going back from here . Do a factory reset. After that as mentioned before don't restore settings and set up a "new" device. Set up your accounts and check if both VPN apps work (they should by this point). Now start installing your basic app setup and after configuring each one make sure that the VPN still works.
If somehow this didn't help make sure you're not running a ROM that's botched by flashing the official system image (and upgrade to Nugat as a bonus). If you know what I'm talking about then you will know how to do it, if you don't know AND the issue still reproduces the there's something really strange going on.
By now you should have your issue solved, hopefully in the first three steps at most. There's one other thing to take into account. The great firewall does not like VPNs and there's a fair chance that Unlimited VPN will not work so be prepped to have a backup plan. You could try with Opera VPN (no idea if it works, not my project, would be nice to get feedback) and also get a trial for any service that looks interesting to you on this list.
Hope this helps and that you'll have a safe trip .
UPDATED minutes after posting:
One simple step I missed: reboot. In most cases it solves exactly the issue you're having. No idea why it happens but probably there's a 2y bug opened and tagged as low prio in the Android project .

Thanks for the quick reply!
1. Besides VPN Unlimited, I've already tried OpenVPN for Android and OpenVPN Connect. They both use .ovpn files from VPN Unlimited. I just installed Opera VPN and whether I swipe through the intro screens or skip them, I can't click on "GOT IT"; nothing happens. I think this might be the crux of the problem as some of the buttons in the other VPN apps don't respond either. I'm "almost" positive it's not a screen overlay problem because I used to use f.lux that did that, got rid of it, and haven't had any problems since.
2. I run Lookout Security & Antivirus and just scanned again to be sure. Nothing found.
3. I tried safe mode earlier, only to learn that you can't install or run any aftermarket apps.
4-7. Nougat hasn't been released yet and I'm too dependent on systemless root and Xposed, I'm still stock rooted on MM 6.0.1 with the September security update. I do run TWRP and Titanium Backup and make sure their backups are up to date before I try anything dangerous.
8. Unless you can think of why I can't click on "GOT IT" in Opera VPN, I guess my next step is to sideload the latest OTA again and try all of the VPNs before installing TWRP, SU, and Xposed. That's about all that's left.

1. Some of the buttons don't respond? What about Opera Max? Opera VPN is fairly new in the game and it still can have issues (though I haven't found any during the brief time I was testing how it works with Max). This sounds really strange. Does it happen in other apps?
2. Rerunning the same Antivirus app will not double the likelyhood of finding a thread . Try with Avast too. You can safely uninstall it after that.
3. What aftermarket apps you have in mind? APK's installed not from the Play Store? It shouldn't impact testing if Unlimited VPN works fine. All background stuff shouldn't run by definition in safe mode.
4-7. Nougat is released. After beta 4 they started releasing OTAs and images for the final release on the beta channel and now it's going to go global. There are factory images for Nexus 9 which I upgraded recently and we have a Nexus 6 but after checking it looks like got the OTA from the beta channel, so it will take a while for the official release to roll out to 6 (though 6P and 5X already have it). Also you're right, there's no systemless root for it yet. We're rolling standard SuperSU on test devices in the office (no need for Android Pay or banking apps there).
8. I'll reach out to the VPN guys for info on gathering debug information for this. Meanwhile try with Opera Max or even Betternet. Do these also fail to connect? Also does it reproduce on mobile and on WiFi?
Got a response from the VPN guys. Most probably your network blocks VPNs. Try pinging http://api.surfeasy.com/ from mobile and WiFi. If it doesn't go through then your network provider is blocking it. Probably it will be the same case for other VPNs. The issue is known and they'll probably add an error message in the next release .

I installed Opera Max and it was the only app that gave me a helpful error message, so thank you and the coders for that! The message said something like it couldn't establish a VPN connection due to an Xposed module. I disabled Xposed, rebooted, and all of my VPN apps worked. Further searching found this thread saying that Xposed's Immersive Mode was the cuprit. http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/help/vpn-to-t2850981
I re-enabled Xposed and disabled only Immersive Mode and VPN still works. Hopefully this will help others in this thread too.

JF1.43: breaks T-mobile hotspot app, processes intermittently crash?

Hi All,
I've rooted my phone and installed the JF1.43 modified firmware, and also replaced the stock bootloader with hardSPL. Everything worked exactly like the instructions, and I'm very happy and grateful with the results. I notice two issues:
1. Applications that are used recently, but not the last application used, sometimes crash when I bring the phone out of sleep. I get a notification that this or that application has crashed, with the option to Close or Wait. It doesn't happen every time, or in any reproducible way, as near as I can tell.
2. The "T-mobile Hotspot" application appears to be broken. It does not connect when I'm in range of a t-mob hotspot, and the nearby hotspot location search feature is broken; it dumps me out to a search in the browser.
Has anyone else experienced these issues? They're not dealbreakers at all, but I'd like to get to the bottom of them. Is there a log file that will tell me what's happening when the applications crash?
Thanks for the help, and the great work you're doing here.
I haven't experienced #1 and #2 has never worked for me at a TMO hotspot.
I have experienced the forced close of apps, but not too often.
I'm running RC33 and 1.42 (couldn't install 1.43 for some reason, something about not able to validate files).
And if any consolation, T-Mobile Hotspot app never worked for me, even before the hacking.
Sounds like you need to perform a wipe. Should fix everything.
Well, except the hotspot app, that never worked.
Its always a good idea to wipe when you change builds.

[Tutorial] Quick Wi-Fi Fix

Hey guys,
I've been following XDA-developers for a long time, and would like to return something for all the help the community has provided. I traded my iPhone 4 for a G2X today only to find out that my BB data plan is incompatible -_-. Unwilling to wait until Memorial Day was over (611 closed), I decided to turn on Wi-Fi and tinker with it.
Unfortunately I fell victim to the phone's Wi-Fi's problems. It worked for seconds at startup, then simply stopped. Frustrated, I decided to take manners in my own hands. The evil culprit is T-Mobile's My Account program. Here is how to fix it (root and a $3.99 Market purchase required, no piracy!!)
First follow the directions in this tutorial to root your phone. Its pretty simple. ADVANCED: unrooting method.
Make sure Wi-Fi calling is turned on, as well as 3G/4G (from Mobile networks settings page)
Do a battery pull AFTER you enable the above ^. Wait 1 minute before rebooting your phone.
Wi-Fi should work on its own (although buggy) with these two enabled. If you have 3G/4G, you do not need to do this: for Wi-Fi only users, continue to reboot until you have somewhat of a stable Wi-Fi connection. It's very intermittent but eventually it will work for enough time to download Root Explorer from the market!
Go to the Market and install Root Explorer (purchase required, there may be free ways but I do not know of them and I do not advocate piracy)
Open this app. A popup from Superuser will ask you for permission. Grant it with "Allow"
From Root Explorer, navigate to /system/apps
At the top of the list box click the "Mount R/W" button
Scroll down and look for the following: MyAccount.apk and com.nuance.nmc.sihome (the latter may be named differently but it has a My Account icon)
A box will come up telling you that com.nuance.nmc.sihome has encountered an error. This box will refuse to go away. Simply do a battery pull.
YOUR WI-FI WOES SHOULD BE GONE, and your phone's stability should have improved. Enjoy!
You can download the latest version of My Account from Market now and cease to have problems.
Other safe-to-remove T-Mobile stuff:
EA Games (EAPK)
Zinio (does anyone use this?)
Telenav
Nova
Need for Speed
Polaris Office

You don't need to do any of this noob stuff if your wifi doesn't connect to your home router or any router for that matter. It's unneccesary and time consuming, not to mention risky since you could "brick" your phone. All you have to do is reboot the phone, simplest way is hold power button and volume up simultaneously, then it should connect, assuming you entered the correct password if router has secure connection.
I just turn wifi off then back on. Works for me.
And stop with the noob stuff the guy just wrote he came from an iPhone to a g2x.
He will figure it out as he goes.

I see two band-aid solutions, a reboot, and a restart...gosh that is advanced.
Verse a solution to fully resolve the problem, and keep it gone. More importantly a possible isolation of the cause.
These super duper pro android interlopers are unapproachable on their savvy solutions. Ummm no
Since the OP says its linked to My account program, and I know on first run it says a newer copy is available, I am going to wonder that many users don't touch it.
So since I am already freshly on a complete reset of everything (erase all date, or hold down volume and power) I am going to try.
1. Full erase reset
2. First thing upadate new version of My Account.
3 Hard restart.
4. See how it reacts
My wifi is decent except sometimes it does clog up and I have to clear buffers and shut down programs to get it to kick up. Start and stop wifi solves nothing on mine.
Anyways its about 10 minutes of time to do, since my phone already is in near out of the box setup.
Sorry but I'm not here to post "noob" stuff. Of course restarting the phone or its wifi radio were part of my first efforts. But the phone's stock software has a bug in which the default My Account program a) causes a DNS issue and b) displays itself twice in Manage Applications. Things work great if you have a working data connection from tmo but if not you will notice that wifi refuses to work on its own. I'm not dumb and by no means am I a noob. I've been following XDA since the days of the Wizard. By the way rooting and deleting useless carrier garbage like the buggy and persistent MyAccount.apk will not brick your phone unless you are careless.
"My Account" from tmo has been nothing but a pain in the ass for me. I froze it using Antek App Manager (a free app). I used the same software to freeze the other garbage that came installed by tmo, and battery and booting issues have greatly improved. Just my 2 cents.
Other stuff I froze include: Car Home, ea games, Zinio reader, AppPack, T-Mobile TV, and wifi calling.
Of course some are big fans of wifi calling but I don't need or use it.

Okay sorry, it causes the HSPA / Wi-Fi switching issue. Could you be any more polite about correcting me? FYI I haven't found any SOLID proof of this. Immediately after removing MyAccount and all of its derivatives from the phone DNS requests worked flawlessly; It's been 9 hours of constant wi-fi only use without issues (NO radio turned on). Prior to removing the app, only IP addresses would be resolved by the browser.

Seriously are, I was only trying to make a helpful post to those users or viewers who are not very tech-literate but possess the ability to root a phone and forget about it to fix an irritating issue with the phone.
dude dont worry about it....good job
Thanks for trying to help with this problem. Its threads like this that help to get to the bottom of these things.
Seems some people here would rather everyone be so afraid to post bad information that there is none at all. But we know better right?

No..Those people you're referring to would rather have people search before posting. This so called "fix" has been posted many times. No need to start a new thread.
I tried this and got no error lol. What I did was reinstalling MyAccount with the MyAccount.apk in system\app and now my wifi actually works with the Market.

Adhell - anyone have any luck? Also posting the fix if you broke from it too

Anyone have any luck running adhell on this phone? Was going to email the dev and see if they want to check it out.
Kept giving me an RILNOTIFICATION (Radio Interface Layer Notification) after installed and even after removing. Kept causing me huge data griefs and mobile data would only work when it felt like. Would throw up error lte : ESM - 31 EMM - X as well all the time.
If you tried it and are having trouble, you HAVE to reset your mobile data with ##72786#. I found trying to reset it any other way didn't work.

no problems here, installed, accepted the knox stuff, seems to be working. It isn't blocking the adds i get on the home screen of CM Browser though, or an add i just had in Tube Map so not sure how effective it is, i havent used it before yesterday. It is definitely blocking some ads though.
I'm running it just fine.
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S8+ using TapaTalk Pro
Working fine here.
how are you seeing the error? I have it installed and haven't noticed any issues and seem to be working most of the time.
Got an email back from the developer, he said there does seem to be an issue with some carriers. He said he knew for sure now T-mobile appears to have trouble with it (hes getting reports of the same errors I am getting) and I have sprint and let him know.
My stuff still is acting goofy even after the reprovision. Also reset network settings and rejoined my current wifi network and completely reset up wifi calling and it will not work at all. I've never had it not work on this network. worked perfect until I installed and setup adhell.
Really wish I had never tried this stupid thing lol. Feel I'm going to be stuck with a restore....
No problems here: S8+ on Verizon.
Working fine on T-Mobile s8+ here.
I've tried adhell and disconnect pro now and both let through too many ads for my liking. on the homepage of CM Browser alone a load of ads get through every time. Never had anything like that on my S5 when I had roted and used AdFree. At this point I am thinking I need to try adguard or adblock plus (that use the vpn method) to see if they are any better as these two just arent blocking enough. The only potential issue with that is how much performance is affected by using those vpn methods, in terms of download speeds and battery life (VPN's use a lotof cpu power due to the encryption).

im on tmo and have no issues using it.
I had it return a couple random times and a profile update would immediately fix it and make it go away for a long while.
adhell must screw with the APNs (seems that way anyway) as I was only having this trouble on one specific APN at this point and only when the phone would decide to change to it. Since I cannot edit or view the APNs, can't say what for sure. I've since done a full settings reset (tried network only and it did zilch) and it's finally stopped completely now going near 20 hours. I have been on this APN since.
Every profile update would change what APN I was using and it'd stop. Same as a reboot or airplane mode. Soon as I switched back to that APN, instant RILNOTIFICATION about no data.
Funny thing is, the data did work, just horribly.
Running on my T-Mobile S8+ with no problems at all. I hadn't used it before, but so far I like it very much.
Keep in mind that Google play music (which happens to be default music player on the s8) needs to be whitelisted in adhell. The program nails up a persistent connection when it can't connect to ad servers and will blow your battery and suck a ton of resources.
Once whitelisted, no issues.
I am very pleased with adhell. Arcitecture is great, utilizes knox f/w and is open source on top of it. I would not trust this kind if stuff to just anyone.
It does a good job paring ads way back.
It seems to work fine with my S8+. I have this app that used to be slow when loading, now it load new contents very fast. Great ad block app.

Does disabling google play music stop that? I have it disabled in package disabler anyway.
Also for an open source app, it sure seems to be letting a lot of ads through. I read somewhere it lets ads through from certain providers like adchoices or seomthing. For me it seems to let all the same ads through that disconnect pro does and I see no reason why.

You can go to github and open the .json file that contains all of the blacklisted URLs. There are something like 2000.
Re Play Music, I cant see how this activity would resume if you had the package disabled, but I cant confirm you wont either. I can tell you that if it becomes an issue you will know it. I got a warning suggesting to shut the app down a few days ago.
Disconnect Pro uses a VPN, so they proxy all of your data through their machines. I cant say a bad word about them, but this is something that I would look very hard into before doing. Also, I believe you need to pay or use only the Samsung browser which is less than ideal.
I like how adhell is dns based, and utilizes Knox for blocking. I am not suggesting that adhell is the most comprehensive blocker out there but it works well enough and I am comfortable with its architecture.

disconnect pro doesn't use a VPN it uses the knox firewall to block by dns exactly the same way as adhell does, and in my limited testing it lets exactly the same ads through that adhell does too. I have heard that a lof of these companies get paid by some ad providers to let their ads through (i.e. simply not include their ads in the blocking), and the ads I have seen get through both adhell and disconnect pro have been obvious ads from obvious large ad suppliers which looks highly suspicious to me as there is no reason they aren't in their block list. These are all ads that were blocked on my rooted S5 using Adfree (or adaway i cant remember which one it was but it was a basic hosts file/dns based blocker and no such ads got through).
I looked at their site, the premium product is vpn based, the lower tiers apparently at not.

The one on the Galaxy Apps store ("Disconnect Pro Privacy and Performance") is not VPN-based. It does cost money, but it goes on crazy sales once in a while. I got it for a few bucks a year or so ago.
Although I haven't tried Adhell, Disconnect Pro has been flawless for me. No noticeable affect on battery life, zero difference in webpage loading speeds compared to using no ad blocker at all, and no annoying notification icons in the status bar. It works phone-wide, so it blocks ads in all apps. And best of all, root is not required.
I find that even the root-based ad blocking (eg: AdAway) would be a little too overzealous in its blocking and resulted in many video files on websites being blocked entirely just because they would contain an ad before the video. I don't get this problem at all with Disconnect Pro.
If Adhell works the same way that Disconnect Pro does but is free, then that's a win for everybody.

Reminds me of when apple started letting ad blockers in the appstore for safari. First people charged for the apps, then many deleted them cause they felt bad, others would let select ads through for pay. Was a mess.
I get why websites and businesses want ads, but they are way too intrusive. Like when on youtube and you get stuck watching a min long ad you cannot skip. Those piss me off to no end. Not sure I see them as much anymore.

No Root Hotspot Mod Oreo 8.0 and Below

Hey guys, I have found a way to get hotspot working in Oreo without rooting or paying for the service. Timing seems to be important for Sprint's software to load and block the functionality of the hotspot. This method does work on Oreo, but it also works on all other versions below it as well. Follow the steps below or watch the video at the bottom and post back here if it works!
1. Download and install Shortcut Master Lite from the play store.
2. Open Shortcut Master Lite and search for com.test.ltefunctionality and make sure there are no spaces before or after the query.
3. Open the result ending with LTEFunctionalityTest and find LTE APN Setting in the list and tap it.
4. Open APN2 EHRPD internet and scroll to APN type. See if you can edit it. If so then great! Add ,dun to the end and to the same for APN2 LTE internet and you're done! If you cannot edit, which is likely on Oreo, then continue with the steps.
5. Some have had success with rebooting the phone and getting into Shortcut Master Lite quickly after the reboot. For others this does not work. You can try it and see for yourself.
6. Open up the dialer and type ##27263# This resets your carrier customization settings and reboots the phone.
7. Upon reboot, follow steps 2 through 4 again and it WILL work. Make sure you save your changes when editing the APN Types.
8. Verify your hotspot is working by toggling it on and connecting a device.

I got this to work on my Galaxy S9+ for the last two weeks. As of 5/29/18 it has quit working and If I redo the procedure it immediately catches it and shuts it off.

id like to know as well
Is there a way to get this to work on verizon? The old sim card trick no longer works on Oreo.
Does this still works? Also I'm suppose to have unlimited plan, but once I use certain amount of data the speed get drastically reduced, is there a way to avoid or bypass the speed limit on Sprint?
Btw OP love the Insaniquarium profile pic haha

I just used this on my note 8 with the CRE1 update and it worked great.
Now does anyone know if it works on the s8?
Hello, I was using an app (shortcut master lite) to modify hotspot to work. But now when I go into shortcut master it's all greyed out. I cannot select anything. Can someone help to enable so I can get hotspot to working again.

I have an S8+ and basically modified this setting via ADB way back on Android 7 and it has persisted all the way through the upgrade to Oreo. I am currently on CRG3 and it still works. One trick to note is to turn off mobile data, turn on the hotspot, and then turn mobile data back on. Has been working since I got this phone back in May 2017...
Now to see if the ADB method will work on the Note9 in a few days...

Hey guys, I have written an app that makes this process pretty easy. Shortcut Master Lite is no longer available on the Play Store.

Question Family link [TB-J617F]

Hi all,
I've been trying to get family link working as my daughter uses this tablet. When trying to add her account the setup gets stuck in an endless loop never competing. Having read various threads from other devices, I think it's probably something to do with play services not having certain permissions. I would consider unlocking, installing twrp, magisk etc if required to fix, but I don't want to loose widevine.
The long and short is I can't use her account on the device at all as she's part of the family group - her account won't work at all without family link.
I wondered if anyone here had either tried this, or come across other odd behaviours relating to play services?
I'm running the Chinese ROM ziu 13.
Appreciate any thoughts.
Cheers Matt
Few things I have tried (and eventually got it to work) across 2x Lenovo P11 Plus (J616F)'s:
1st one was a factory reset and then instead of using my home WiFi, setup the device using a 4G hotspot from my phone. (Not a clue why, but my Home Wifi (Unifi Access Points) takes upwards of 2 minutes to get internet with the Lenovo's, even though all other devices are fine).
Second method:
factory reset and setup the device as "Offline" (i.e. dont input any WiFi details, button down bottom right saying "Setup as Offline")
Once gone through initial steps, connect to your WiFi, give it 10 minutes to update a few bits.
Open Play Store (DO NOT SIGN IN!), and press the three dots at the top right and goto updates
Let the device update all apps
When complete, try adding the childs Google Account (again, if this fails, try using a 4G hotspot from another device (disabling Wifi on that device first))
Hope that helps
Ok, that sounds pretty strange but I might give it a go. I just set her up a new Google account as nothing I could do could get the old one logged in. Thanks for your advice.
I suspect your unifi is running a shared ssid and your 5ghz is on an inaccessible band, are you always connecting at 2.4ghz? I had to change the 5g band on mine to even see it!

Only have my 5Ghz on normal bands (i.e. non DFS), even tried a separate 2.4Ghz Guest network, disabled WPA3, all to no avail. Not got a clue what caused it, my ISP doesn't block anything either (Zen UK)
Any other device was fine over WiFi (have setup much older Samsung tablets, newer kids phones) all with Family Link, it was just the Lenovo's that was stuck in a loop saying I needed to remove and re-add the account.
Just couldn't figure it out, and had already spent a few hours trying. Hoped the newest firmware would fix, but that didn't help either.
Hope it helps and good luck
Just playing around on the tablet and it appears that it struggles with IPv6 - could be that my hotspot is IPv4 only. Could be related to the loop it gets stuck in?
Not sure why it doesn't like IPv6 though as all other devices are fine with it...
I've just gone through full reset, then tried using 4g hotspot as you suggested. I have to use Lenovo app centre to get play store, then use play store with no login to update. That all works fine. Then add my daughters account. Then I get stuck in the same loop of not being able to register the device with family link.
In my case, I don't think this relates to internet access, I think there's something going wrong with the software / permissions on the device. It's genuinely very frustrating as I imagine it's probably not terribly difficult for the Lenovo Devs to fix.
