How to get info on the installed app? Version, etc? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

i'm pretty confused. it seems the only way to access anything about an app is through Settings > Applications > Applications Manager then select the app. but it doesn't give any detailed info regarding the app, like version number. where am i supposed to get that info from if i need it?

I'm looking at my App Manager and it shows versions under the app titles. Another way is usually within the app. What app is it?

strange since my app manager doesn't show version numbers. it was Facebook messenger. I figured out how to get to settings within that app though. had to long press the back arrow button on the phone and it would pop up with a menu. but still for other apps it didn't give me that option in app manager.

[Q] Help with Market

I have a problem with the android market. I've found two apps where I can see add-on apps when I search for them, but the main app doesn't show up when I search on my phone. When I search on my wife's Motorola Atrix, the main apps show up as well as the add-on apps. The apps I've seen this with are Car Locator and Evernote. Has anyone ever seen this behavior? And how can I fix it so I can get the apps I want. I don't know how many other apps might not be found-but I know there are two for sure!
Depending on your fingerprint in your build.prop, the market makes decisions on what apps you are allowed to see on the device. I'm not sure if you are running stock or a ROM, but if your fingerprint line is not recognized/allowed to use that app, you won't be able to install it.
You can go to http://market.android.com and find the app then see if you can tell it to install to your phone. If it is grayed out, you will need to either extract the apk from your wife's phone or change your fingerprint line then reboot the phone.
I found one of the apps at http://market.android.com and it had an install button. But when I tried to install it I got a message saying "Your device's content rating filter is incompatible with this item". I know the app works on the device because the developer sent me a link and I installed the app from it.
I don't understand why the market would limit me to certain apps. Can you tell me how to fix my phone so this is no longer a problem?
Thanx!!!

Menu->Settings->Content Filtering in Market on the device
There might be a corresponding setting on the website, I don't know.
I can't find anything under settings that has anything to do with content, filtering, or market.

It's right under User Controls.
And obviously, anything in the Market's settings screen is going to be related to the Market.

don´t allow intall apk sd or market!!!!

Suddenly my optimus 3D dont allow install apk from sd and i can´t download from market, download never end or the install button appear dislable.
Any idea?
Are you a rooted user who has used a task manager to stop some auto running apps? If so you probably need to reset the auto run permissions for the market app.
If not, have you checked that you have the "allow non market apps" option ticked in the phones settings menu under the applications section? This enables installation of apps from places other than the android market.

maybe!!!!

If you didn't change any settings using a task manager then market should be fine but if you want to check you can install an apps manager (I use the gemini app manager which is free on the android market so can only tell you how to do it with this app though it should be the same for most similar software).
Start the app manager and you will see a list of programs that are on your phone, scroll down the list until you see the android market app showing (it will just say "market" and a pic that looks like a green suitcase next to it).
Click on that picture and a menu appears with lots of choices.
Choose the choice that says "configure auto run" and after a few seconds it will show you a screen that has lots of writing on with "on/off" sliders at the right of the screen.
Basically if these are all green then the problem is not the market apps permissions. If any are not green just touch them and they will turn green. When all are green again just hit your phones back button and see if market now works properly.

the irony ^^ hehe sorry, couldn't resist, please don't take offense! ^^
Lol your right, although it may be possible to download apps from market via pc using markets push method or maybe getjar. No offence taken, I earned that reply

[APP][4.3 & 4.4 KitKat] App Ops eXtended

App Ops eXtended is a launcher for the 4.3 AND 4.4 App Ops activity, as well as an installer for a more advanced version of App Ops with added features:
- search for apps
- filter out disabled apps
- sorting alphabetically
- batch grant/revoke OPs (permissions)
- ability to automatically deny permissions chosen by you on new app installs
- optional persistent notification to show revoked permissions for the current foreground app
App Ops X is a recompiled version of Android 4.3's App Ops which we've made available to Kit Kat now too.
We're going to improve on it and add new features, so please, if there's anything you'd like to see just let us know! Also if you have any problems with it, please send us a description along with your ROM. Thanks!

Can you add the option to take away ability from apps to connect to the internet, or to write to the USB storage, or to read the phone status and identity? That's what I would call extended app ops

Don't these apps work by listing ALL the permissions that an individual app can access ? So if it can't access the internet or GPS or or or it won't give the option to denied ?

App Ops lists some, not all permissions. Look at chrome, it doesn't say that it has any network permissions, neither write storage, but if you look at them in Settings->apps you can see it does.

Gotcha I never really looked at apps like chrome , I really only use it for games and shady apps downloaded from the internet . I agree finding a way to show all permissions would be great
Many thanks!! I was waiting for kit Kat version.

Yep, working on the INTERNET permission right now. App Ops eXtended uses the same AppOpsManager as the native app, which doesn't support it, so it's a bit more work, but we're getting there!
Looks nice !
If I may, once App Ops X is installed, the button still says Install App Ops X Maybe you could change it to "Launch App Ops X"
That's done, along with a few other features:
- notification that shows revoked permissions to the current foreground app
- batch grant/revoke a permission to all apps that requested it at once
- rules - automatically disallow permissions of your choosing to newly installed apps (like READ CONTACTS)
Don't see wake lock option in X version
First thanks for make this great app available on Kitkat platform.
I'm not sure if the following bug might be related to my phone only:
When trying the Native AppOps, all works fine and I see the "wake lock" option.
However when I try the AppOps X, I'm unable to see the option for "wake lock". I had granted superuser access to the app and phone is rooted. I'm on Kitkat (Build from CM 11). Phone is a Samsung S2 I9100.
If nobody is having this issue, then I would guess it's something with my OS or phone.

This is cool! Can you also present the apps sorted by name ? The standard app ops show the apps in random order, so it's hard to find a specific app you are looking for, if it falls under a section with a lot of apps.

Thanks for that! It is actually a bug on our side which we'll try to get fixed by the next version! Feel free to suggest any improvements if you have an ideas too!

They are actually sorted so that the app which most recently used that OP is shown first. We'll try to add a sort option by the next version too though!

In App Ops X on the upper right side there's a "settings" button, and there on the unlocked version the first option is for turning off the notification. If you haven't unlocked (purchased) though and you see notifications from App Ops X then that's a bug which we'll try to fix ASAP.
Yeh I have upgraded, but still get notifications, even if unchecked in settings

found it, thanks! fixing now!
My main concern is the device ID. is there anyway to stop apps from gaining access to that? Seems like a good app so far. Nice job

There isn't any way through the AppOpsManager as of yet. Even so, the device ID now isn't as unique as it used to be, since it's software generated as opposed to hardware. I'm still looking into it to confirm that it's so, but the most of the internet tells that it is.

One specific app not showing in recent apps menu

So I have one specific app that doesn't show up in recent apps menu no matter on what phone or android version I use it. It's banking app and I think it's intentionally protected from showing up there (it's called 'mPBZ' and it's official app of one of the Croatian banks). But is there any way to force it to show in there? It's specially important because sometimes I have to switch a lot between this app and some others when I retype some texts that cannot be pasted. I've tried googling the problem but it didn't help me.

Forgot app name

Around 1.5 years back, I used to use an app which provides me all components of any (user/system) installed app on the device; i.e. services, broadcast, intents etc. I downloaded that from play store which was having a blue gear icon. I used that app with the time of greenify. I have searched the app in play store installed app history but I have forgot it's name completely.
kindly, if you remember or points me to some direction, I will be thankful.
was that app pre-installed?
Kernel Adiutor?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.grarak.kerneladiutor&hl=en_US
Disable Service?
https://apkpure.com/br/disable-service/cn.wq.disableservice
Thanks to all you. That app was having a white background and list of installed user and system apps. On tap on any app, it further shows services, broadcasts, contents etc. On tap on those options, further it shows to enable/disable the relevant services/broadcasts etc. When we enable/disable the option, a blue gear icon appears and options get enable/disable.
Still I fail to remember it's name.
Yes, I got it. It was Myandroidtools. Thanks to extreme0 who suggested me Disable service and when I saw installed it and opened more app section, I got it what, I was remembering since last 7 days.
