Video Calling - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note5

Is anyone aware if Sprint will enable video calling. It's a bit disappointing that all other major service providers has this.

Call sprint and ask them!!!!!

Does anyone know if the s7 has it disabled too?

Isnt it just easy to use hangouts for videos calls?

Android M have it.

I've spoken with Sprint and have gotten nothing but the run around, however digging deeper information has surfaced that its due to sprint not having VOLTE whick I think is a horrible excuse. If our phones can use other video services why not the one thats baked into its update? Once more it's a shame that a company that has been around this long can't seem to keep up with the available technology.

Is AMR-WB (HD Voice) enabled on your Nexus 5?

Does anyone know how to check if AMR-WB (HD Voice) is enabled on our Nexus 5? And if there is a way to force enable it like on the S2 and S3?
I'm on Rogers in Canada and it certainly doesn't sound like it is enabled.
I'm not quite sure how to check, but I'm on T-Mobile in the US and notice a significant difference in call quality when calling other Nexus 5's on T-Mobile vs phones on other carriers or non-HD Voice phones on T-Mobile.

You mean that the quality is better or worse?
There has got to be a way to force-enable HD Voice or to figure out whether AMR-WB is enabled or not. Doesn't someone have a way of reaching the service menu on the Nexus 5?
It sounds significantly better when calling other HD Voice enabled phones on T-Mobile than when calling phones or networks that don't support it.
Do keep in mind that you need to be calling someone else with an HD Voice compatible phone on an HD Voice compatible network. So make sure that the person you are calling to test is also using a Nexus 5 or one of Rogers HD voice enabled phones.

I've called someone else with a Nexus 4 on my network and the quality is average. I'd really like to figure out if AMR-WB is enabled on my device.
Isn't there a Service menu we can access? It's possible to find this out on the S3...

Well, there's *#*#4636#*#* but I don't see anything in there about HD voice. AFAIK there's no way to "enable" it... if your carrier supports it, and the person you're calling supports it, it should use HD voice.

Verizon WiFi Calling

Here's some interesting news for those of us on Verizon. I wonder if this will be included in a future update from Motorola?
http://www.droid-life.com/2015/12/07/verizon-introduces-wifi-calling-tomorrow-to-the-galaxy-s6/
people on iphone for a while could use verizon messages to place wifi calls not sure about android you can try,and I would guess if verizon allows them then sure why not
what i would like to know if we are going to get it, seeing that we didn't get our phones from verizon.......

Ah, damn. I was thinking they did for some reason. Is that supposed to come with the eventual Band 12 update (which sounds like it might be 6.0.1, at least for the 6P)?

Hope so, but I've not seen anything official from Motorola or T-Mobile.

No reason for verizon to waste their time developing that for this phone when the have their own version of the phone to take care of.
Wifi calling is part of IMS, much like VoLTE. Doesn't really take much to go from VoLTE to Wifi calling. It just needs to be enabled. In some of the logs I have on 6.0, there are some IMS entries regarding VoLTE, VoWifi, ViLTE (Video over LTE), and ViWifi. Only VoLTE returns true back to the carrier.
Whether carriers will allow it is a different story altogether. Knowing Verizon, it'll be available only on Verizon branded devices (carrier variants). I wouldn't be surprised to see the Droid Turbo 2 getting VZW Wifi calling in 6.0.
I just got a cell signal booster from Verizon as my new house has little coverage. The rep informed me of WiFi calling coming but no exact time frame. So I had to spend $175 to purchase an already antiquated booster. Damn Verizon.
What's the difference between (carrier enabled) WiFi calling via the stock phone app versus calling someone via the Hangouts dialer app? Aren't they both essentially doing the same thing?

I have found the Hangouts Dialer to be unreliable. Sometimes it sounds like you are drowning under water to the other party. It also doesn't seem to ring on incoming calls due to an IPv6 bug with Android, that Google refuses to fix...unless you root and disable IPv6.

I realize it's too late for you, but for others, if you're out of, or near the end of your contract, you can usually get them to send you a network extender for free. I called them a few years ago, and told them how my contract was almost up, and I was going to explore other providers, for better service. Once I said that, they offered to send me the extender at no charge.

Carrier Wifi calling extends the carrier network over Wifi, so you still receive calls/texts outside of your service area or deep underground. What they do is allow connections through untrusted Wifi APs and use a secure tunneling connection to their IMS framework via the internet. So, when someone calls your phone, it routes it back to your phone over the same connection and you get the call over Wifi.
whats the likelihood that we will get this working for us, any technical hurdles is this something once verizon gets to other phones will we be able to port it. just curious this will be the determining factor for me buying unlocked phones if verizon is going to screw us over i might just have to switch carriers.....

Has anyone seen if RCS is enabled in Google Messenger?

Hi all! I would like to know if RSC is enabled in Pixel phones. I read that Sprint might be the first carrier that enables this feature in messages.

Everything I've read about it says the Pixel and Pixel XL come with it built in to the messages app and enabled. You won't have to do anything special to use it once the service is up and running. It might be a while before you get to make full use of it though. It requires carrier support too so it won't work with those you message with who get their service from carrier other than Sprint. In that case, the messages app will just continue to function as a regular SMS app.

I am with T-Mobile and I know that phones such as Samsung had this feature and I tested it, but the other phone also needed to be from Samsung. So looks like we can't do anything...but just wait for each carrier to implement/support it.
I received a pop-up allowing me to opt into in on sprint. Wasn't by default.
I don't believe Verizon has this yet.

Nope, they have no RCS but pledged support for a gsm standard, which is different than Google's standard that Sprint is using. The whole RCS thing is a mess...

Actually you are incorrect with this. The RCS that both Sprint and Rogers in Canada has rolled out is the same one that Verizon and other carriers have agreed to support. Its the RCS Universal Profile with GSMA. All the carriers and most OEMs/OS's (except Apple of course) have agreed to support and implement the new GSMA Universal Profile. Sprint and Rogers are the first because they are just using Google Messenger as their clients, which RCS is already built in. My bet is that carriers such as T-Mobile/Verizon/AT&T will take a little longer to roll out RCS on a carrier level because they will first want to update their own carrier messaging apps to support RCS. The quick and easy route is what Sprint and Rogers have done...just commit to using Google Messenger on all Android phones on their networks going forward. The other carriers want to keep users on their own messaging apps since there are probably ways to monetize it. But regardless, the ball is rolling and everybody outside of apple is onboard with using it.

Don't count on that. ATT has said they are gonna wait until they see how it works out. Right now they see it as a second tier option.

No where you will most likely see. I dont think it has been made public outside of the company employees. Right now ATT Customers use SMS for millions of messages a day. Changing over is a big thing and before they change it up, you really cant blame them to want to wait.

This new RCS gsma universal standard is replacing sms and mms. It's not a huge change. It's the next evolution of sms. Att is already on board and has agreed to support it and implement it. It's not something they are sitting back on to see how it does before deciding to join..They already on board. I only see the big hang up is that they don't want to go the route of using Google messenger as the carrier default app. They have already invested alot into their own att messenging app so I see them updating that with RCS according to new standard before turning it on carrier side. Of course Google messanger RCS would work too it not until RCS is turned on carrier side

Yes at first they agreed. Yet they never said when. You can think what you want but if It wouldnt cost someone their job I would post the Memo about it that went out to the technicians.
Personally when they do I will stop using SMS all together. Google is already collectin too much info on people, Heck my phone already runs Google-less.

Which US carrier to activate on?

I will be receiving my U12+ tomorrow. Interested in everyone's opinion as to which carrier I should go to in order to activate on. I have been with Sprint since 2005 and obviously I have no choice but to jump elsewhere. What are your thoughts regarding T-Mobile, Verizon, and AT&T? I know T-Mobile is missing a band... what is everyone utilizing? Looking for the best experience as far as network quality and not being limited with HD video. Would like to be able to take advantage of this device's ability to produce great visuals... want to be able to watch 4K or 1080P videos on youtube etc... Thanks in advance for the assistance!
Verizon you'll be stuck to using just LTE with no CDMA fallback in areas that aren't yet converted. Also a hassle to activate apparently.
At&T you'll pretty much not have WiFi calling and maybe no VoLTE. AT&T is stingy I guess.
T-Mobile you'll have Wifi calling and VoLTE from the get go I believe. You won't have 600mhz but besides that everything else should be fine.
Verizon has done a good job getting LTE coverage in most areas. I've run into rural (practically middle of nowhere) areas that LTE is too week and latency is just Terrible. With my iPhone I've been forced to turn off LTE to get decent service off 3G.
I switched back to T-Mobile recently which gave me a reason to order the U12+ with no concerns on network. Yea I won't have 600mhz LTE, but I personally don't care. They've been doing a decent jump at meeting their timeline in converting 2G/E into LTE in most areas.
Went to T-Mobile store near me because I was told when I Switched carriers that any new phone I would need a new SIM Card. Guess what, a knowledgeable sales rep said no need. Took the Sim Card out of HTC U11 and inserted into U12 and instant connection. Wifi Calling did take awhile to connect for the first time after installing Leedroids Shortcutter, due no Wifi Calling icon in settings. Works great so far.

On 4G LTE Band 12, Earth from Space 1080P 60fps played with no hiccups.
Voice calls and surfing the Net at the same time is working too.
So...what is verdict here...TMobile > Verizon? Itching to go activate

That's really good to know, thanks. I'm switching to T-Mobile from Sprint myself. Been with them for 14 years, I've had enough.
I wonder if the sim card in my 10 will do the same thing?
I'll find out Monday when my 12 gets delivered.

Verizon Questions and Opinions

Greetings. I have been trolling these forums as well as Reddit trying to figure out if I should purchase the OnePlus 7 Pro. I currently have a Samsung Galaxy S8+ that works fine but really like the price vs performance of the OnePlus 7 Pro. I have been with Verizon for several years and can't really change carriers due to poor coverage in South Mississippi by all other carriers. TMobile and even AT&T can't hold a candle to Verizon's coverage here. There are only a few spots that I frequent in my area that 4G coverage drops out so I don't think the loss or CDMA coverage will be a big deal. My biggest concern is the things I'm reading about now such as the text and sms problems and the incoming call issues. Should I go ahead and take the chance or maybe wait until the phone is added to the Verizon compatibility list? I have always upgraded phones through Verizon so I'm a little apprehensive going outside the bubble.
If any of you fellow Verizon users have any words of wisdom or suggestions please post them. Maybe they can offer advise to others like me.
Thanks,
James

It works great for me, only thing to note...
Voice over wifi is not functional.
Verizon Messages will not let you send texts over wifi.
Otherwise, HD voice works, and it works flawlessly.

My buddy is on Verizon and he has called me a few times, it is a Verizon business account but he's got an iPhone. I don't really know too many other people with them though.
