(solved) Cant update to newest software from android, point me in the right - Moto G 2015 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Moto g 3rd gen
XT1540
Android version: 5.1.1
baseband version: m8916_2020613.22.03.21.29R OSPREY_RETUSA_AWS_CUST
SYSTEM version: 2..46.4.osprey_retus_2gb.retus.en.us retus
build number" ;PI23.72-47.4
So I rooted my phone to install things that would grant me super user access. I wanted to install to the latest update since it keeps popping up every 15 minutes. When I try it starts to download and will reset with a message saying update failed to install. Should I be using A PC to update my device like i had to do to install osprey? I'm sure theres a guide for it somewhere and im just googling the wrong keywords.

[TWRP][surnia] Squid TWRP Recovery for Moto E LTE

This is my version of TWRP built for the 2015 Moto E LTE. It should work fine, but using it is a try at your own risk procedure. Your bootloader must be unlocked to use this recovery. Fastboot mode is used to flash or boot this recovery. To enter fastboot mode, turn off your device, hold PWR and VolDn for 3 seconds, then let go.
Differences between upstream TWRP and my fork:
My original green theme
No SuperSU
No TWRP app
No HTC Dumlock cruft
Updated pigz compressor (slightly faster and more tolerant of corruption)
To temporarily boot this recovery:
Code:
fastboot boot twrp.img
To permanently flash it:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
The download is up on the downloads tab.

Yes, the recovery does not depend on your kernel or ROM.

I've been working on a new Squid Kernel version for Android 5.1, but I haven't released it yet as a standalone kernel. PM me if you want to try a beta.
About camera on stock kernel
Hello there! I just ordered this phone and plan on rooting it, but with the camera breaking after rooting it and all guess I'll try one of your kernels, which version would you recommend?
Also, installing a stock kernel would fix the camera?

At this point, I'd say your best option is to install the 5.1 stock ROM and root that. The rooted camera issue only happens on 5.0, and not on 5.1. The 5.1 stock ROM is much smoother and more stable than the stock 5.0 ROM anyways.

Thanks for your reply. So in that case first I'd have to update the phone to Android 5.1 normally, right? Directly through the phone? After rooting in 5.1 would any custom kernels be necessary, to fix anything, or is it running all right with just 5.1 + root?

Yes, no custom kernels are required for things to work properly on 5.1. The easiest way to update is to flash the @Q9Nap 5.1 stock ROM zip with TWRP.

I see, I was worried I wouldn't be able to update this phone since I'm outside the U.S. and it seems the updates are restricted by the carriers. You said that I should update to 5.1 and root that, but to install the stock rom by @Q9Nap you mention wouldn't I have to root first?
Also, could you provide a link to the mentioned stock rom? or is this one? http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-e-2015/development/fxz-moto-e-lte-xt1527-recovery-t3135210

After unlocking the bootloader, you can flash whatever you want regardless of your carrier. The Q9Nap zip you linked is the correct one, provided your model is an XT1527 or XT1524 (other models won't work with his zip). You don't need to be rooted to upgrade, you just need TWRP installed to flash the zip.
I'm currently trying to get twrp onto my brothers Moto E, it's the xt1511 variant, i did get it unlocked, but every attempt to flash this recovery gives me back a image size exceed partition and it fails. Do i need to use mfastboot? I'm running the 2nd gen X and this moto E is a odd little bastard.
Edit: Got same "Image Size exceeds partition" error when attempting with Mfastboot.

[Request] Custom Rom for Lenovo Lemon 3 (K32C36)

Hi, is there any Custom Rom for the Lenovo Lemon 3?
If not, is any developer currently trying to port a rom to this phone?
The only things that i were able to find are tutorials on how to install a rooted version of the stock rom, but i would be really happy if there would be a Rom with clean Android< and (more important) more different languages other then chinese and english...
Theres another Question: Is there any Custom Recovery available for this device? i found aabsolutely nothing onn this, too.
I think both arent allready available due to the Phone not existing that long..
Sorry if there an any mistakes in my language, but english isnt my native language
Thank you for any hint or reference
From where you found rooted stock rom? Can you provide link? And I have Vibe K5 plus ( which is same as lemon 3), so will it work on my device?

But, if you go to use this update, you must be very carefully to flash only the system, not the bootloader or the modem, to avoid brick your device.

Hi,
unfortunately I managed what you have warned about. I flashed the european FW A6020a46 onto my Lenovo K32C36. I set the IMEI code through the QCN file using the QPST tool so I could connect the both IMs to network, but in case 2 SIMs are inserted, the call from either of them will get interrupted after roughly 30 seconds. With 1 SIM everything seems to work fine. Do you have an idea if there is a way back? And if yes, how?
Thanks in advance.

Marshmallow update

Can any one tell me how to update my lg g3 d850 to 6.0 marshmallow in Pakistan ???
Well you can update on different sorts of ways. If you didn't receive official update, find the ported Marshmallow from D850, or even install Fulmics rom, or some version of Cyanogenmod. Of course, you'd have to have a rooted G3 and a recovery.
I want official marshmallow not a custom roms. If anyone knows that how to update than please tell me....
Well thank you for replying memovic......

Hi, you can read the forum and take two options. 1 upgrade your version att to h950PR kdz 5.1.1 rooted, if the result is not optimal for you then go and upgrade to version att h950 11z tot rooted. The other option is go directly update from att h950 11z tot rooted.
In both options your choice, never, never, never try to apply downgrade and your phone gone brick.
Learn and read be careful the threads for this forum's before try anything else. Take a moment and reconfirm your utilities and correctly files before proceed. This is a risk, but, if you're sure what are you doing and understand follow this steps by steps, this is not getting any problem.
Sorry for my bad English

I am planning to change this thread to a guide for users who had my issue ?
Got another problem now .After 2 days of upgrading , it stopped to boot up at all.
It just keeps bootlopping on the LG screen .turns off and again LG.
When I try to use it plugged in ,it works a but slower than normal.
I think it is a hardware issue.maybe with the battery?Guess only ?
Anyone here has a solution ?I am currently outside us .

Fast firmware downloads website ( All Moto phones )

Searching around this forum, I have found that many people use some hosting websites for the Moto firmwares that we sometimes need. Anyways I found an alternative website that hosts all of the firmwares ( even for other phones ) and its incredibly fast for download . Hope this helps out ...
https://firmware.center/firmware/Motorola/Moto G4 (Plus)/Stock/
As always, it's up to users to verify a particular firmware is safe and appropriate for their device, as different variants of the firmware may flash okay onto your device, but may cause you issues down the line, for example, ineligibility for OTA updates if you flash the incorrect build for your software channel.
Though it's tempting to flash Marshmallow builds or Nougat builds older than your device firmware from the Firmware Centre, be aware that if you do downgrade, please do not use OTA updates, only use stock firmware to update. Using OTA updates when you've downgraded can hard brick your device, and necessitate the use of a blankflash to recover your device. https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/moto-g4-plus-hardbrick-solved-guide-t3657761
As far as I know, the latest firmware for India, Brazil, Mexico, EU and UK, at least, is NPJS25.93-14-13 (Dec 2017).
For the US, it's NPJ25.93-14.7 (though you may be offered the NPJ25.93-14.7-3 Dec 2017 update, but I've not seen firmware offered for that build yet).
For other regions I do not have firm info on what build they receive via OTA.
I do not know what happened but download the latest version for my motorcycle g4 XT1625 NPJ25.93-14.5 with bootloader unlocked and root, I wanted to return my phone to the factory version without root, everything was installed very well but when I reach the language screen from there I do not pass alone I get the message configuration fault if someone thinks it could have happened please share the information, thanks.

1)Are you able to upload a screenshot or photo of the fault you mentioned please?
2)What commands did you flash and did you see [OKAY] with all of them?
3)Can I request your getvar all info from your device:
a)Boot your device to the bootloader.
b)Connect your device to your computer and open up your ADB terminal.
c)Type 'fastboot getvar all' without the quotes and press Enter.
d)Please paste the output here, you may wish to remove your IMEI number.
The above information will be useful in understanding if anything's happened to your device.
EDIT - also, do you have an Amazon Prime XT1625 or a retail XT1625, the firmwares are different for either? For an Amazon Prime (with the ads on the lockscreen), you'll want the AMZ stock firmware - for retus, you'll want the other athene firmware without AMZ in their name.

Okay, in that case can we still see the getvar info please, so we can suggest the correct stock ROM for your device? Again, is it an Amazon Prime (i.e. with lockscreen adverts) or a retail device? On your software channel it'll either say AMZ or a carrier for carrier locked devices or retus for retail US.
Be aware that reverting back to stock will not restore your warranty.

You've got the Amazon Prime edition? Were you able to request an unlock code from Motorola?
I'm not sure I follow your question - do you want to remove root or put root onto your device? If you were previously rooted through the auto-init exploit, then updating your device may close that exploit.
Also, what's the post for further information - on my computer, the post is blank?

Thanks - I think the confusion is because in your first post, you mentioned you wanted to revert back to stock (and have NO root, reverting your device back to root), then in your subsequent posts you wanted root again. I don't know if that's a typographical error or a translation error.
If you want root again on stock Nougat, then you could try (if you still have TWRP on your device) flashing ElementalX 2.0 and SuperSU or magisk 15.4. Here's a guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo...de-root-moto-g4-plus-supersu-android-t3587918

This site is an old one that has been around for a while. It drives my anti-malware (Malwarebytes) software crazy because of all the crap it tries to open when I connect to it. Use it at your own risk, but there are better ways to get stock ROMs for your device.
Just sayin'.
