Keyboard lag input? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Am I the only one that is experiencing very noticeable lag while typing on the keyboard? Tried even with Swiftkey and google keyboard, the lag persist.
The phone is brand new and I have an empty sd card inside, but even without it lag.. Even the vibration feedback lag.

UP

Mine has been fine and I haven't heard of anyone else having this issue.
Maybe a faulty unit?

I read an article that it's because the phones nowdays have cpu scaling so they aren't eating up all the battery. When you're not using your phone, the cpu kinda hibernates, but if you start typing, it speeds up, then slows down when you pause, then speeds up again. And it takes a tiny bit for it to fully speed up, so the lag comes from the cpu scaling.

I don't think this is the cause, I have lag input always, even if I write for 10 minutes ..

No lag at all on my exynos unit, but I use the Google Keyboard

I'm gonna post a video to let you better understand my issue..

I haven't had any issue with keyboard lag on my s7. I am using SwiftKey. The stock keyboard is a joke. I hated it with the s6 and automatically switched when I powered on my s7.

I have even more problems with the Swiftkey.. do you think my device is defective?

The stock keyboard lags pretty bad when you type fast on my phone. Turning off the keyboard click sounds fixes it

As I already said, I have the same problems with the swiftkey, so it isn't a problem of the stock keyboard.. I've tried the S7 edge of my friend and it doesn't have this problem..

I have the same problem with Swiftkey on my galaxy s7 edge. Have compared it to my Xperia Z2 and it definitely lags
Edit: Also lags on Google keyboard and stock.

The swipe trail on Google Keyboard is laggy too. This sucks.
Samsung fix it!!

I was having a lag issue with my keyboard too not long after I got my S7. Not sure what caused it, but doing a factory reset fixed it. Have you tried that?

I haven't tried that, would rather avoid a factory reset. Google keyboard seems much better after I turned off swipe trail.

Did you not experience lag with Swiftkey? Mine is lagging extremely bad on my S7... i read this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/general/tip-fix-constant-swiftkey-reloading-lag-t3210027 and it suggests to disable SPCM in build.prop... but it requires root...

Swiftkey on z3???

Is anyone else having issues with swiftkey on the z3? I imagine the z3 isnt at fault and its a problem with the app but in saying that, I have had swiftkey for over two years and it worked flawlessly. Ever since i started using it on the z3 iam getting bad lag and nothing but problems with it to the point its not useable! To be fair the stock keyboard isnt bad but iam used to swiftkey and love it so just curious if anyone else has this problem? Wether or not its an issue with the z3 or swiftkey ?

Swiftkey works ok on mine, but lagged badly on my HTC One M8. This is definitely an app problem. Interestingly, it was lagging on iphone as well.

But if its a problem with the app then why are you experiencing no issues? lol Seems strange, especially as it worked so flawlessly for me for two years almost on 2 samsung devices and a htc one
I just realised i enabled emoji predictions recently! Wonder if this is causing it! I shall turn it off and find out i guess Fingers crossed ha
I'm having 'issues' with SwiftKey as well, for me I seem to get random intervals where I get double or tripled up sounds from key presses, in addition to extra vibrations which absolutely pisses me off no end. I had this issue with my M8 as well, one of the reasons why I bailed on it early. I'm assuming that it only seems to happen to phones with stereo speakers? As is the case with the Z3 and the M8.
But yes, SwiftKey doesn't seem quite as fluid as it was on my Nexus 5.

For me,It was fine all along, Flawless in fact! Lately however when i type it will randomly just start lagging really bad and sometimes freeze. Within 4/5 seconds its fine again and works fine for another minute or two before it happens again! I never had emoji predictions enabled before though and i did on the z3 so i have disabled them now.Hopefully it helps! I cant say yet cause i have been away from the phone since disabling them!!
For anyone that may be wondering btw! Swiftkey seems fine again since disabling emoji predictions Havent had any lag or freeze issues since so happy days
Yep! I have this too. I rely on SwiftKey as I speak more than one language and the native keyboard Fovant allow for two dictionaries. I hope it gets sorted.

I have had random lag issues lately on my previous phone (xperia Z) , I don't remember whether it happened as a result of some firmware update. But it was severe, it became unusable.
However, since I started using the app on the new Z3 (a week ago) it works flawlessly, even with the emoji activated.
I'm using SwiftKey beta and is working completely fine!

Iam still getting a little lag from time to time but not as bad as it was when i had emoji predictions on! Its at least useable now but frustrating still given that is was flawless on all my previous phones
I'm using SwiftKey as my main keyboard... It's working very well... No issue here.
Wonder why its only affecting some people so . . . . . . .
Using SwiftKey as well and no lag at all. Emoji is enabled.

no issues here either
Downloaded Beta 5.2 and all my problems have gone away
Alot of people saying the beta version works fine .I have the paid version and like i said, flawless for the past 2 years but lately its been laggy every few seconds when typing! A real annoyance but hopefully its an easy fix and theres an update soon :
Its happening on my G2 as well occasionally while typing nothing shows and then when I zoom out suddenly all the missed words show up. I'm sure the issue must be from SwiftKey.

I stand corrected on my previous comment. The beta version is faster no doubt, but the odd double sound/weird vibration issue is present still... just not as much.

My wife's z3 compact with SwiftKey is very laggy.
It is ok when I clear all the user data cache etc... but the whole point of SwiftKey is for it to predict according to your uses of the keyboard, so clearing the Cache is not a solution.
It seems SwiftKey are not doing anything (quickly) about this memory bug.
Mark.

Swiftkey opening slowly (due to RAM problems?)

Hey all,
I'm using swiftkey on my galaxy s6 and sometimes when I press a textbox in an app like whatsapp or hangouts it takes a while before the keyboard pops up. Also, sometimes it has to reload the dictionary after the keyboard opens (this takes just around a second). Are there more people with this problem? I didn't had this on my Xperia Z1. Is this problem RAM related? Because of the aggressive app killing on the s6.
I'd like to hear from you guys!'

When I'm opening the keyboard it sometimes says "loading predictions". That's what I mean with "reload the dictionary".

What firmware version are you on? Is it the newest? Because I believe the issue is with the newest Samsung firmware. It has nothing to do with the hardware
as much as this phone lags I think this is an issue with the app. It did the same on my m8 and that phone never lagged with any other app. It was the reason I stopped using Swiftkey and I now prefer Google over it as the swipe text is way better on that

I also switched from Swiftkey to Google because of performance. That was on m7 and I tried again on S6E and, once again, preferred Google Keyboard due to performance. A shame though as Swiftkey used to be so good. Having said all that, perhaps it wouldn't suck so bad if this phone had better ram management.
I have the same issues with SwiftKey. I am running on latest Samsung 5.1.1 firmware. Sometimes everything seems to be fine and sometimes it takes years to pop up. I have no clue why. Already tried to reinstall, clear the app cache, no effect.

I'm on the latest Dutch firmware (BOGB). That one should be latest.
Can anyone confirm that the same problems occur with the latest beta version of SwiftKey?
I confirm that the bug has appeared with latest firmware. Yes, the new firmware has much better multitasking and ram management but this bug with swiftkey is so annoying.
I've got the same issue since a few days. I have an S6 with stock firmware running (5.1.1) and SwiftKey 5.3.4.67
Any workaround available already?

Hey Guys, you're not alone and Swiftkey is notified about the issue but they're not sure if they can solve this problem. Take a look in the forum here: https://vip.swiftkey.com/index.php?/topic/12733-slow-showing-keyboard-on-s6-bug-reported/
But I think the biggest chance of getting this fixed is to inform Samsung about this problem and wait for a fix (if possible). Does anyone know if they are also already informed?
I have the same problem I live. I'm going crazy.. I sent it to the service. Load the software and they sent it back. The problem still continues.
Do you have any news friends?

S8+ being laggy?

So my wife and I both got s8+ when they first got released. It seemed as if when we first got the phones, they were running flawlessly and fast as hell. Now a month or so later, both our phones seem laggy and sluggish. I always run device maintenance on both to keep things cleared up. Dunno what else to try. Wish we had root already so I can get rid of all this bloat and unnecessary stuff. Any recommendations from anyone? Dunno if maybe debloating apps or programs with a app is possible without root?

Have you checked who the offenders are in your phone? Which apps/processes are running the most and see if they are 3rd party apps that ruin the experience.
Have you tried changing launchers, maybe try Nova

I never faced any issues or lag except *bixby* for sure. I am using the exynos variant here i am not sure if it's something related to snapdragon chipset or not but
* we encountered lots of problems with note 4 snapdragon variants with emmc bug failure. The nand seems to be corrupted within 2 years and no solution for this kind of problem unless you buy a new motherboard
I bought this phone month a go and it runs as fast as it should
* my only advice for you is to try enabling debug GPU overdraw under developer option google it, definitely it's a 3rd party app causing this problem but in both phones i doubt.

Are you guys using any of the Bye Bixby remapping apps? I had a slight lag but after uninstalling the app it's completely gone. By slight I mean I notice a little stutter when scrolling through my apps in settings, other than that nothing to complain about.

Yeah see how much free space you have left... on your internal memory? I have noticed that my phone is filling up with all sorts of crap from a couple games I play and stuff the little advert videos and stuff it's taking up gigs of space...
The only place I see lag in the UI was when using the stock launcher. On the Snapdragon S8+ that i have the launcher that came with the phone is the worst performing launcher I've had out of the box in my 5 years of buying Samsung phones.

Gboard delay?

Anyone notices that Gboard is actually responding pretty slowly when you type? I had iphone as well and the response is not on par, much much slower on Oneplus. I cannot seem to type properly because it will hit or miss so often where on iphone it regs everytime. I know cannot compare, and I actually been using oneplus since Oneplus 3, nevertheless performance wise on this beastly device is simply unacceptable to me.
You have any other alternatives?
Same Happens to me. Even an other keyboard doesnt Help. But what helps us to deactivate haptic feedback
Ghosts is fine, no lag at all
I hate this phone for typing but that's it, I'd rather have occasional rage at the keyboard (I've tried 3 different apps) and love everything else about the phone than have tons of glaring issues like every other phone I've had personally.

Question Question for OP 9 owners.

So I have this weird scrolling issue, like the one on this video:
Can someone please test if their phone does the same? I will replace the phone if this turns out to be a hardware fault. Thanks!

Alright, something is wrong with mine then... Or maybe the T-mobile version of the phone doesn't have this bug, since it uses a slightly different software.
Yeah could be. Maybe t-mobile turned down the touch rejection.
