Sadly I've sent it back - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Guides, News, & Discussion

Well I'm the owner of iPhone 6s & the Galaxy S7 Edge tempted me away.
But now I've sent it back. Things that I cannot live with & left me frustrated:
1: I'm using 3 gigs of ram before doing anything.
2. The apps are awful. Twitter predominantly, the Twitter app it's self & the shocking others that make you yearn. Tweetbot.
3. Screen sensitivity was terrible, I almost don't need to touch screen before it resisters. How many times a day do I start the camera accidentally & there's no way to adjust it.
4. Finally & this shocked me the most, I can't believe a brand new phone should suffer lag but this thing does.
I will miss some things, the fast wireless charging was a dream the week I had with it. The screen it's self is beautiful & I hope the iPhone 7 has those features.
Gutted I couldn't get on with it, but it's so refreshing to have my iPhone back in hand.

I have no such issues and if I did I'd fix them, which is the beauty of android!
Sorry it never worked out for you,but a week isn't enough to really make a Portlethen decision in Android life. Especially on such a new Android phone which is just finding is community grounding.

hi wafcarl, I have none of these issues with my s7 edge exynos.
Whatever makes you happy man I personally would not swap my old note 3 for the latest iphone (I am not joking..)

Samehere evene if the give me money in addition. I find iOSworld for parents and people that are havinghard time understanding technology. They unlock, call, check messages. The biggest prove is the battery in Iphones 'cause people don't keep it screen on that much. A power user would never onsiderswitching to iOS, atleast not me.

Ok, OP.... Thanks for sharing? Enjoy your iPhone.

I am still within my 14 day window and I too am thinking about taking it back if Samsung doesn't get an update out that fixes some of these bugs before next Saturday.
I had a 6S+ prior to this phone but before that I was a long time Android user (5 years). I'm not saying I would go back to the iPhone because I missed Android too much but I may exchange it for the Nexus 6P until then next Nexus comes out. The amount of bugs Samsung shipped this with has me appalled.

I can speak neutral here. I love both devices. The iPhone really does just work but gets a bit boring with the lack of customization options. Android is a ton of fun but not as stable as iPhones, though closing the gap.
What's funny is that I've noticed both platforms start to adopt what the others are doing.
What made the S7E so appealing is that TW is really slimmed down compared to the mess it was a couple years ago. iOS has actually slowed down a bit as they've packed more features in.

Thanks for replies, it's a gorgeous phone of that no doubt. May be Samsung will provide updates to sort, that screen sensitivity most certainly. Type it in Google & you'll see it's a major issue. I checked & on Note 4 you can change sensitivity, why they've took it off no idea. Any way, I'm sure I'll be tempted before iPhone 7 possibly with HTC M10. I like look of LG G5 too. Both the current models (M9 & G4) don't seam to have problems of the Samsung.
Any way, I'll no doubt be back soon. lol

New phone, help?

ok iI need some suggestions from people that actually know what they are talking about rather that reading some top 10 best blog on the web. I'm in the market for a New phone (Verizon) to replace my Droid Bionic. sound clarity is a must, fast processor dual or quad? big screen and rootable with decent Rom dev support.
Basically the phone is used for mainly business type apps, remote desktop, vpn etc. keeping up with my eBay bids bank balances on the go and just tinkering with the new roms and apps the devs entertained with. II do have aa couple of tablets (Asus Tf300t and aa galaxy tab 2 7") so the main priority for the phone is that it should work excellent as a phone. Clear, good signal reception, and good hands free operation (speaker phone, Bluetooth etc). aa large sd capacity also... iI know when iI got my last phone 16gg was almost standard but 32gg would be better
oh, also aa decent camera, I'm kinda a shutter-bug
so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, then iI can take your suggestions and do some in depth research and make an informed choice.
thank you for your time
ignore the errors, using Swype and it messes up a lot of words
With the criteria you are going for I would suggest a HTC one X or a SGSIII which I am currently using. Sorry if my suggestions are bad I'm new to this as well.
rhe galaxy nexus is the best for you...it is easy to use verry fast in update and has a very decent 5 megapxl camera which act like 8+ mega pxl because of its quality...it has no shutter lag the time you oress the button the time it takes goodluck
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 2
I agree
I have to agree with you on the Galaxy Nexus. Apart from all the features you've mentioned, its also a google designed and supported phone so it is supported and kept up by google meaning you have priority access to all new android OS releases

hi aaxiss! i've a galaxy nexus, and i advice you to buy it. you know google product=full supported :fingers-crossed: and olso devs start developing from it, so you have more rom, and stable first of all, to try i wish you have a good choose
Nexus or the SGSIII, SGSIII had bags of power
A decision has been made for you by these guys, of course including me  galaxy nexus
I have a galaxy Nexus and it's been a pretty dam good phone for the past 7 mouths. But since I loaded Jelly Bean 4.1.1 it's been a really great phone! Supper fast and smooth. So for the price I don't think you can beet it.

thank you everyone for your input, II have ordered the Gnex today ended up getting 2 of them for 99.00 ii have my mom on my acct an age has wanted aa smart phone for aa long time. ii have her an older moto droid xx and kept both new phones so ii can play around without worry. ii just flashed the droid back to base rom. if she really gets into it I'll get her aa better phone.
Although she is already complaining it's hard for her to read the tiny letters [email protected] the learning curve for her is going to be long I'm thinking. she has had the same Motorola flip phone for 4 years and just learned how to put it on speaker phone aa month ago lol.
any way.. thanks again for the help
oh as a side note ii also ordered aa Google nexus 7 tablet today for on the go android goodness as my transformer is just too big and bulky and it also has aa broken power button (stopped working after it got aa glass of water spoiled on it).
got my phones yesterday. just what ii wanted great phone.thanks again for the suggestions
If you are going to tinker with ROMs, Galaxy Nexus is the best choice. It is a Google flagship product, so it is used as a base for development of the new versions of Android. That is a guarantee of staying always up to date with new AOSP ROMs - and, surely, of the best support possible from the development community.
Regards.

Obviously not staying with VZN - the handwriting is on the wall - will probably go with Tmobile or Sprint. Don't really utilize the features that TW brings to the table, so not having the ability to use AOSP Roms is a deal breaker. Might also have to give up some cell coverage for flashing freedom, but well worth the trade off for me.
I have the htc one m8 and the new gs5, I prefer the htc one m8 and my Lg g2 Samsung dropped the ball on this phone

Not so much S5 vs M8, but VZN vs other carriers that do not lock down their phones. I first and foremost will be changing to either Tmobile or Sprint. Call me spoiled, but after years of being able to flash whatever Rom suits my fancy, I will not (and at this point) do not have to give that up. Will I have to sacrifice some coverage to get that - yes, but a sacrifice I'm willing to make.
After that, I will probably wait until the batch of phones (LG g3, Sony Z2, Nexus 6, Oppo Find 7 etc) hit the market. Not impressed enough with the improvements that either the S5 or M8 have brought (processors, display, camera) vs their predecessors to change over right now. I'll stick to my loki exploitable S4, and come summer or early fall, say good-bye to both Samsung and VZN!
Verizon has definitely dropped the ball here!! Bad! They took away 2 of the s5 main features! But I still like the s5 over the m8. I have both. I will say the boomsound is unbeatable, yet everything else goes to the s5 in my book. Battery life is almost twice as good, camera seems better, overall feel in the hand is better. The m8 is just too heavy. Both are high quality phones for sure but I personally think the s5 wins, in spite of big red being the evil step parent beating us with the nearest available object in public. ....

Which 2 features are missing? The quick glance (I think that's what it was called) that I could do on S4 was nice. Where you wave your hand over the front sensors to see time and notifications while it's asleep, seems to be gone. I really liked that. The S5 does feel good in hand. Really enjoying the dimpled back. Feels nice. The display is lovely has well. As we all have our own opinions, I enjoy the M8 a bit more. I love Sense.. Now. I'm a vanilla Android guy and was really shocked I liked sense and blink feed. Shocked lol. I actually find it easier to hold in one hand than S5, by a bit. I can type easily on the M8, not as easily on the S5. Camera, that has me confused. Love the M8 features and UI. For me, quality is better in certain situations and better on the S5 in situations. Obviously, with the S5, you can crop to your hearts content and that's a big advantage. Either way, IMO, both are great devices and as Android users, we're lucky to have these options.

Has anyone come to the N5 from an iPhone 5S?

As the title says, I'm wondering if anyone has made the switch and how you've all felt about it?
I realise these threads are horrible, but I'm pretty scared about the switch (not sure why! I used to love android) from iOS to Android and would like to hear others experiences!
Thanks in advanced guys/girls

Android hasn't changed much since from when you've switched (2013? From your profile?) The Nexus 5 is a great phone, and its pure android experience is much better in my opinion than using an iPhone. I've used a 5S for a couple of days, just couldn't stick with me.
Why are you wanting to switch back?

Round about there, with my note!
I'm wanting to switch, well, going to switch because I need some money for some bills... So selling my iPhone seems logical!
Plus, the nexus 5 is almost new and going for £180 from a friend, which I can't moan at! A powerful device for barely any money, and the left over money pays my bills off!
I love the customisation options of android, and rooting and flashing is what brought me to android in the first place, I fear I've become the typical apple user... Used to the walled garden and scared to move away haha!

I'm in the same boat as you. The other day my girlfriend was like "I think instead of the iPhone 6, I want a phone like you have". I thought I had heart failure for a second I was like huh?!? She has been using apple her whole life but She said she loves the customization. She wouldn't get into flashing Roms and so on but I would set it up like my n5 is so she could customize away, and show her some.of the screens on the home screen thread because the possibilities are endless.

Well, the camera isn't great. It's probably the worst of the mainstream smartphone cameras (HTC One, Galaxy S4/S5, iPhone 5S, etc...) but it's serviceable for basic point-and-shoot work.

The last person I knew with an iPhone and not a Nexus5, was trying to put their life back together!

Right, but android is a win for UI, for easy "noob"-friendly modding, and BB is always good for business. IOS is simply a popularity ploy and does nothing for me professionally or personally. I can hack and mod android to become the work I don't want to do. Its easy for anyone. Plain and simple.
Nexus 5 is more for like the Android geeks who love to flash roms and kernals and isn't afraid of anything
If you like the user experience with an iPhone I would recommend you the HTC One

Sound wise it literally blows the iPhone 5S and Nexus 5

My note 2 is a mistake.I for it while had galaxy nexus, hoping to make me switch from nexus.I didn't work a d my note two became a spare back up for my Gnexus..I waited the 2 years for it to come.couldn't be happier. Love my note 5

So I know there is probably some thread here referring to how much they like their note 5 bit I was a hardcore iPhone user and I'm now a note convert. I've had a couple replacements, and t-mobile sent me a new replacement in a box that I want expecting I was assuming ib was going to just receive a refurb well, since getting my replacement the screen is the best one I have had on a note so far and is build quality is amazing. I love how much Samsung has finally slimmed down their skin and Even with a few small hiccups here and there is smooth and fast. I also love the amount of updates i have received since buying this beast fix almost all of the small problems I did have with it this is the first Android phone I haven't wanted to root just downloaded package disabler pro and got rid of bloat and it's fast and battery life is pretty good and I love wireless charging and fast charging. I'm so excited to see what Samsung has for marshmallow. Who's with me!!!!!!

Time for a Note 5 love in!
After coming from a OnePlus, this is genuinely the first phone in years that I haven't felt the need to root and modify. Clearly there are some KNOX issues with doing that, but even so I'm really happy with the camera, battery, and general performance. Glad to see Marshmallow coming next month which should make things even better.

Glad you like it. After all, it was designed for people like you- the "hardcore iphone user." The very existence of this device is a slap in the face of the "hardcore" note/galaxy users. And anyone with this phone, claiming to be a hardcore Samsung, and is not a developer, is either a mindless consumer drone or a no-nipple having Samsung sheep. SHAME ON YOU Samsung for placating to the soylent green apple fan club... SHAME!!!

Please get that non sense out if here, it's not a slap in "hard core" note users faces, it is still a very powerful phone with great battery life and future proof to and extent. You think because Samsung got rid of a plastic back you can remove and a slot to expand your memory it was an intentional slap In note users faces, i just don't see the the logic. Samsung was imo was trying to get with the times, also every with and exception of a few oems have enclosed batteries and no expandable memory. I think LG is probably one of the few who didn't get rid of it and look how well the G4 did for them TERRIBLE if you read the G4 forum there are nothing going but complaints every where bad screen, bad battery life, runs hot etc. On a side note I'm in software development and thus phone would not interfere in anyway with me using it to help with my job. So shame on sour Note users who do not like progression.

I'm a "hard core user" and it's the best phone I've ever had. I'm rooted, running Tek's rom, Skyhigh kernel.
Not sure which jedi mind funked into believing the removal of features equal progress but you have been severely misinformed. And I know your influence wasn't from the darks side because Apple doesn't remove features, they only steal them from android and present it to the mindless mass as Innovation. Enjoy your sealed battery and 64 measly gb of storage. Just be sure to buy a memory stick to shove up your glass... and while your at it, go ahead and fork over that extra doe for more data bc you'll be spending more time in that lovely cloud... and don't forget to insurance because not only is that $800 device the most fragile device on the market but it also a non removable battery constantly depleting behind that nice shinny glass back... and don't get in the habit of recording in 4k because it will make short order of that 32/64 gb, much like gear vr files.

... and No, you are not a "hard core user." You, my friend, are food. I'm sure Samsung is deeply appreciative of you nourishment; helping them make it through the winter so they can try again next summer ... hopefully learning from their mistakes (ie note 5 and s6).

No one is going to take you seriously with that attitude and bigotry.
On topic: Yeah this phone is a delight. Running the MM leak right now.
Can we keep this thread on topic thank you, I didn't make it to have people come here to complain about how Samsung did them wrong personally. Oh and Bruce Lee Roy you have ever some major issues not a phone that "lost features", if a phone a a thread about how much people like or love it make you this much of an geriatric butthead you have other things you need to be seen for, maybe a therapist will do you some good. Also me and my 800$ piece of awesomeness will have a great time together. While you sulk like a 2 year old.

I had almost every top android device from late 2011 to late 2014. When iPhone got with the program and offered a 5.5" device and 128gb of internal memory I jumped ship for a bit. Just missed the camera, fast charging, and little tweaks you could do with Android so back at the note 5 I am and loving it. Truly disgusted they offer a 128gb S6 but leave the real flagship stuck at 64gb but I'll get over it.
Cant wait for the MM update and the Note6 eventually.

April and STILL no Marshmallow update...

Because somebody had to make this thread lol. But seriously...it's been almost half a year since MM was announced. This is beyond ridiculous.
Really ridiculous of Samsung and T-Mobile combined! Very disappointed. With our luck the Note 6 will be out before the Note 5 get the MM update.

Aha ha are you friggin serious what's this lameness? LOL
Lmao... this community is too funny. ???
i installed RiverROM DEEP SPACE N9NE 6.0.1, but no call audio. so i put i call sim in a small nokia phone. problem solved
I bought a Nexus 6p and gave my Note 5 to my 8yr old Problem solved! I probably will never buy another Samsung unless its a Nexus! Google really needs to make the handset manufacturers keep there phones up to date in order to use AndroidOS IMO!

Compare the thread titles. This is for April lol.
Can anyone one tell me what it is about MM that has you feeling all this discontent? I'm confused, is MM going to transform your phone into this vastly improved device? Is this a groundbreaking upgrade frome the current operating system? Someone please fill me in because I want something lame to be mad at.

Outside of permissions control, what do we get in MM that we do not already have? I can understand Nexus users clamoring for it as they don't have half of the features out of the box as OEM devices but why us? Further, where did this notion that Samsung drops support of its flagships within a year come from. I have used Samsung devices including an S3 (ICS to KK), N3 (JB to Lollipop), and N4 (KK to at least MM) and all have been supported for 2 plus years. The Note 5 will get the same treatment.
Although I don't totally agree with those people who get all up-in-arms about not having the update, I can see the main point (at least I think): it may not bring super increased functionality or any brand new features, but the principal alone is what makes it frustrating.
Samsung, Tmobile, whoever it is should ensure a device, that is hardly 6 months old mind you, gets the newest update in a timely matter. There is no reason a phone released two years ago (HTC M8) should have MM before the Note 5. That's just simply not right.

Not to mention Note 5 is close to being two Android versions behind, with Android N already in testing.

Really bro, come on? Now I want to know what this said..
In other news, its not about being upset at people wanting the update as much as it is about people creating threads to talk about the damn thing.
This is the same topic repeated over and over. This is pretty much crossed the line into spam.
I see all the other versions that got MM and they all seem to be having issues.
I'm fine waiting if ours comes nearly bug free.
Lollipop runs pretty good on mine, great battery and pretty smooth for the most part.

The guy who posted that link is correct, but the guy lives in Tijuana, Mexico which means his phone is the international version.
Here is the link to his post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-galaxy-note5/general/march-marshmallow-update-t3327363
Good luck,
Have a great day!
Coming from alot of updating on multiple older versions 4.0 & older i have to say I'm satisfied with the note 5 & lollipop software, long way from Ice cream sandwich
Something that is coming with mm is good lock, which looks like it might be fun to mess with.

You're absolutely right brother, but watch out! We have update haters that'll cling to your thread and troll about how stupid it is to want to update your Note 5.
Samsung and T-Mobile forever lost the little respect I had left for them. The best thing to do is to use your Note 5 as a paperweight, because it died the moment you purchased it.
I also decided to make all future purchases with Apple. Apple's doing things right as of lately.
