Just found a buyer on Swappa for my VZW Galaxy Note 3, which I loved, but am selling cause I no longer want to be a part of Verizon and because I don't want to wait 6 months hoping and praying that the Note 3 gets it's boot-loader unlocked and in the meantime only be able to use a Safe-Strap workaround, which they haven't even gotten fully working yet from what I read the other day. For me rooting, flashing roms/kernels/tweaks, etc etc, and messing around with other mods and themes, is half the point of owning a phone. And the note 3 let me down big time.
Anyways, the point is. T-mobile, either the S4, G2 or N4, and most likely this is just temp til the Nexus 5 is in stock for them (which was the final straw for me with Verizon, I want that phone so damn bad and they of course don't carry it) I keep wanting to get the nexus 4, just to mess around with, cause I've never owned a nexus device before cause I've been stuck with Verizon, and when the G-Nexus came out I wasn't eligible for upgrade. But the G2 seems pretty much to just be a slightly bigger Nexus 5, the S4 is a great phone, but I am tired of Samsung. But then again, at least I know I am getting quality. Last time i had an LG phone was the Revolution 4G and i hate that thing sooooo much.....
So yea, I know my reasons for liking each one, but I wanna know, down to the absolute nitty gritty, which one should I go with. Obviously Mods/Roms is a important factor for me, so is smooth performance when using the UI, Chrome, Games, etc etc, Camera needs to be decent enough for me not too look at it and wanna retake the picture every-time. I am not a pro-photographer, i am just a musician, but I do take pics of friends and shows, and all that good stuff. And yea. that's about it for main things i look for, there are a lot of other points i look at, but that should be enough to help you guys help me lol. What do you guys think.

Are folk still enjoying it? What are the annoyances etc? Anything which you'd consider a deal breaker?
I'm due my upgrade on Saturday and for ages, I was certain the s8+ was it. However, I had the opportunity to muck about with the ZX Premium last week and my head was potentially turned. The XZ is also receiving pretty favourable reviews so now I'm not so sure.
The only thing holding me back on the Xperia is that I'll be getting it via my network (EE in the UK) which means it will be SIM locked and won't have an unlockable bootloader.
On that note, there are no similar restrictions on the network locked S8+'s are there? Has anyone flashed this on their EE variant?
nice phone but far from perfect. Seems to be impossible to get one that doesnt have some sort of issue with it... Mine has a slight gradient brightness issue that seems to plague all S8+ models, fortunately it only impacts playing gearvr games that ard too dark.

I've had my S8+ since day 1 with not one issue with it so far. I read of a lot of issues with wifi, bluetooth and tint and as stated before I've had none of these issues. If I had to do it over, I would purchase it again. Probably going to get the Note 8 when it comes out too.
One thing to keep in mind is, people don't just hop on forums to voice their pleasure with the device, only those with issues create threads, obviously.
With the millions of consumers, this makes the percentage of those with issues pretty minimal.
OT: Mine has had no issues, enjoying the device so far.

You previously said envy's dark theme will ruin everybody's phone when you were the only one to report a problem.
Now "it's impossible to get one... some sort of issue", and "gradient brightness issue...seems to plague all S8+ models".
You seem to have been unlucky. But why you seem to think that your experiences are the same for "all" devices is, frankly, nonsense, and based on nothing whatsoever.
My device is 100% problem free. Lucky me. Unlike you, I don't claim to speak for the millions of other S8+ owners.

For the record I never said envy's dark theme would ruin everybody's phone, in fact I praised the theme and said I would purchase if it ever landed on the Samsung store. What I criticised was the root method for install that was outlined in the OP instruction, yes those instruction (soft) bricked my phone twice.
Regarding my criticism toward the S8 or S8+, my personal experience with getting a perfect display has been poor with this phone and with my previous S7 Edge (had dead pixels.)
In saying that, the issues I have had with the display, I am only aware of their existence because i'm a gearvr user. The issue I have had are invisible to the naked eye, you need the gearvr lenses to see the imperfections. SO I will say, other than that, a great phone!
Up until now, I was a Sony adherent and was set on getting the XZ Premium. But coming to this S8+ has shown me what I've been missing. A lot of people complain about 'Touchwiz', being over bloated and laggy amongst some of the complaints. This is the first phone in years that I feel no need to root. A lot of reasons for rooting have been negated by the features native to this S8+. No need for 'greenify', 'system cleaners', can shoot 'raw' natively etc. Maybe it's just a 'honeymoon' period I'm going through being new to Samsung devices, but presently loving this phone to the max.

Having an S8+ from day one - no problems at all. Came over from Windows 10 Mobile and like Android so far. Yes, it is a mess, IMO, and it is not for everybody and his dog, but this is only my opinion and everybody and their dog do not seem to care All is well.

I'm on my 3rd phone - the first had a faulty headphone jack, the second had a screen defect. Third time lucky!
I hate the bixby button. Its in the wrong place just like the fingerprint sensor. Ridiculous.
However I am enjoying the phone but can't wait for the Note 8 - heck I'd even take a Note 7 FE when released. Just prefer the slightly wider screen and the pen.
Seriously need to be able to buy a decent screen protector too for these curved edges.

-do you have a gearvr? i have read alot of posts these last few days from a number of people who are experiancing the same issue I am when using the phone with gearvr. Do you have a gearvr, are you a user?

I had a Galaxy S6 and while everybody was complaining about it, I got lucky and my device worked for 1 year and a half.
I was excited to get my hands on the Note 7 (I had the note 3 and I loved it!!) but unfortunately you know what happened so I got the S7 Edge.
The biggest MISTAKE ever! After few weeks the device slowed down, battery was gone in half day and the phone was getting so hot that was annoying.
With Nougat things went even worse. After the update the device was getting roasting and stuck at the SAM/////// Logo. I tried some tricks.. Nothing.
I gave up. 2 weeks ago I bought the S8+ due to the similarity with the Note7 and the big display.
Now, this long story just to give you a good idea on my experience with Samsung toys. I'm honest I can't take my hands off this phone. It's stunning and performances are good even for an heavy user like me. I love the IRIS Scanner. Fingerprint is close enough (people complaint it's too high at the back of the device), audio is an OK+ (not stunning but very good). Multitask never fit better than this phone. I do translations for work time by time and I have to say having two apps at the same time always gave me some trouble in reading. Here it's mastered 100%! Perfect.
So far my opinion is absolutely positive.
I hope Samsung won't mess it up with rubbish updates.
I came from a note 4. It was bootloader unlocked and running amazing. Then it just died. My work bought the S8+ and so fast I love it. It was hard to think of not having a rooted phone but so far it's not been an issue. The main reason I rooted was for ad blocker but dns66 app seems to be working fine. This phone feels like a beast and so far with a few adb commands, package disabler and dns66 I'm very happy with your phone. I'll be glad when root comes but right now I'm satisfied.
2 weeks in for me and I'm generally very happy with my device. Like many others my only complaints are the fingerprint scanner location and the Bixby button. I may change my mind about Bixby if they ever get it working properly though.
This phone is great but I'll be replacing it with the Note 8 as soon as it's possible to pre order one. The s pen is a very useful tool for my work. Not a necessity mind you, but just something that makes it that little bit easier.
Coming from nexus 6. So I'm kind of use to big phones but this phone doesn't feel big at all. I have iPhone 7+ but this phone way easy to handle with 1 hand.
Saying that I hate the fingerprint sensor. I don't use it. I use face recognition and pattern way faster to find the bloody sensor.
I'm waiting for pixel 2 it's going to be good.
Except for not being rooted, because of Knox, I am 100% satisfied ... everything works. Great phone.
Had the phone since launch date. I had to exchange the 1st one and the 2nd one, but still wouldn't hesitate to buying this over any other phone. It has its flaws, but the pros outweigh the cons!
I've been a Samsung Note fan since forever. Started with the Note 2 which still works running Bean Stalk ROM. Note 4 running Bean Stalk still going strong. My current phone is the Note 5 which I recently dropped and cracked the rear glass. Since then its been somewhat unstable. Press messages or phone and it takes around 10-15 seconds before the app opens. Little things like that. Did some searching and sure the Note 8 looks the business but I'm kind of thinking maybe the Note isn't for me anymore and came across the Razer Phone. At the moment there are some good prices for the Razer Phone and I was certain to get one. Checked it out and seen all the issues people are having with it, the camera, which is no deal breaker for me. Screen brightness isn't a problem I'd worry about. Updates are slow, but again, not a deal breaker for me. It looks the business, I really love the design. The speakers look the business too and I love love love a loud phone.
But before I commit to purchase I knew I'd have to see what's happening on XDA, what ROMs are available for it, mods, and just the general communities developments on what I would consider a pretty awesome device. I am shocked! this place is almost dead?
I understand its Razer's first phone and it isn't perfect. What is? And I understand the current issues it has and the price point combined with the issues might put some off getting one. But I didn't expect such little interest and little development here on XDA? If there was any place that would be alive and kicking the Razer it would be here. Now I'm not too sure about getting one. And that sucks because I really like it. Bookmarked some sites for screen protector and found a couple of really nice cases for it. But half the fun of owning a device is the development put into it by the community. The ROMs to try, the mods, the enhancements to features and functions. Its all part of the experience that makes owning an android phone unique and fun.
What happened with the Razer Phone? Really disappointed. So, talk me into it, or talk me out of it. Should I get one? If so why? If not, why? You guys own one, best to talk to people who own one I guess. Will it improve? Is this a dying community? Does Razer have a future on XDA?
In my opinion, it's a pretty good phone. It performs very fast, and the 120hz screen really makes a difference for me, mostly when I'm scrolling. The display was brigther than I expected, and I don't think the camera is bad, I can take decent pictures with it, but not better than the ones I could take with my Note 5. The sound is really amazing and loud.
The problem is that it doesn't feel premium to me, for example, the crappy vibration motor that makes a weird rattling sound when I receive a notification. There are some apps that don't open (like Netflix for me). My keyboard sometimes gets super slow, or the figerprint not being able to detect my finger until I turn the screen off and on again.
I can deal with all that though. What does not make me feel 100% happy with this phone is the same reason you're mentioning, the lack of development. I bought this phone before checking xda, but I was hoping to see different choices of custom ROMs and apps to take more advantages of the amazing features of this phone. Until now, the closest thing I've seen has been the GSI (which I've tried, and come back to stock because couldnt deal with the bugs). Another thing that bothers me is that I haven't found how to install custom themes on my phone. The only way I know to install themes is Razer Theme store, but it doesn't have one that I like.
Overall, I think is a very good phone, loud, fast and sleek, but it doesn't like a Note 5 in terms of quality and developer community.
What happened to the Razer community? The Razer phone happened. I had one for a while, but the HORRIBLE stock software and HORRIBLE implementation of Project Treble support, to go along with the fact that I had to modify the stock fastboot flash files given to us from Razer just to make them flash on my Razer phone made me realize how good a company OnePlus really is. I got rid of the Razer phone as fast as I could and bought a OnePlus 6. It is kinda sad actually though. The hardware is great and I loved the look of the phone and the fact that it is metal instead of a glass sandwich. But nothing can make up for horrible software and even worse customer support.
The only advantage of the lack of development and community support is the fact that it's really pushed prices down as most peeps who buy these beasts anticipate activity on xda. However with dev support being dead the phone, s prices are tumbling and when you really look at it, it's a great phone after all.
Overall, I am happy with my Razer, and dont have anything major to complain about. Yes, its not perfect, but I am hoping LINDA comes along soon, and I am sure additional development will come as well. Screen is great, Audio is great.

But it's very quiet around here with not much discussion compared to other phones.
And personally I've never seen an S10e in person even though I've seen plenty of S10 & S10+.
The S10+ Q&A forum has thousands of posts already, and there's 341 here.
So what's happening?
I would say s10e people go see s10 or s10+ forums as there is not much difference.
The S10e is ultimately the third tier device in the S10 line. Enthusiasts are more likely to be the ones to develop for devices in general, and enthusiasts are more likely to go for the first or second tier options.
We may get a small amount of development ported over from the other devices, but odds are this is about the amount of participation we're going to see here.
Maybe because people are satisfied with it. I honestly have no complaint about this device

I'm very happy with this phone tho. Don't even need root anymore really....custom kernel would be nice but not likely to see that for long time if ever.

I've been a oneplus user for the past three devices, and this s10E really got my attention.
I ordered a G9700 version from ebay, should come next week

The S10 and S10+ are locked down too, yet they still have big communities.
My worry is that the S10e is selling maybe nowhere near as well as people were expecting, possibly even a flop. This will be a problem for future official or non-official support.

I don't remember where I read the news but I saw that S10+ and S10e both are outsellIing S10. I think this forum just needs more time
I typically get the highest model available when I purchase phones but there was a few things that made me get my s10e. The main thing is that I despised curved screen phones. That's why I've been away from Samsung for years now. Finally is that I do not want to deal with the experimental in screen finger print sensor.
After getting the s10e, The only downside is the absurdly narrow screen. While the screen size is actually larger than my older LG V20 actual usable screen space is less and I feel it when playing puzzle games. Other than that I never thought that I'd be so happy on a non rooted phone. I pretty much destroyed my LG V20 on sprint by installing the best rom that was available and which got rid of lots of things like visual voicemail and many other features.

One word: ads. After being pushed onto an S8 when my OP6 broke, I couldn't believe how many ads there are spamming all over the place. It felt unusable. Adaway really spoiled me. At that point I rooted my S8 with Nougat.
There are still some drawbacks to rooting an SD S8 (random crashes and 80 percent battery), but it's still worth it IMO. Enough so that I didn't upgrade to the 10e, even though I like my wife's overall.
Oh, and Titanium Backup too.
I agree root was not necessarily so far. I am using Adguard VPN ad blocking, used ADB to remove bloatware and add some 3rd apps for gestures and other improvements. All ok for now.
root is no longer needed for blocking advertisements. you can use, Blokada, adhell3, Disconnect Pro and private Dns. I use Disconnect Pro in combination with Adguard dns. Dns over tls. perfect combination for adblocking with 0% battery drain
Xda isnt Poppin like it used to and the phone is so good, there's really nothing to complain about or anything. Ppl are just enjoying their phone

I really wish I could use a custom ROM on this. I don't like using stock ROMs and haven't on a single smartphone I've owned... including my first, the Samsung Captivate. I'm currently in love with Resurrection Remix.
Not much to complain about so far. I was getting a bit fed up with the increasingly large screens and weight, so I decided to go for the 10e and so far it is a great phone.
Phh just ordered an s10e, that's great news for any aosp lovers.

Still waiting for the promised supper-dupper night mode update, 4 months since purchasing my unlocked S10e and that's too long. Samsung is bombarding the market with so many cheap "A" models now, that they're forgetting their obligations to the owners of top priced galaxy 'battleships' or 'flagships',... whatever.
I like the S10e, but I'm beginning to regret not waiting for the OP7 Pro, they seem to be on top of updates/upgrades. I think I'll give OP7T Pro a try when it gets released in the fall.

I got around the night mode thing by installing a dark theme and using night mode for all my Google apps. Gives me about 85% night mode for everything.

hello everyone, recently i had some connector-related problems with my s7edge so i'm about to buy my next phone.
i think that, in this "hardware overkill era" (personally i think that from circa 2018 the effective changes in speed became very small and unnoticeable in terms of usage; apps open just a tiny little faster ), choosing a good used it's better than ever. since i don't have much to spend (gotta apply for masters ya know) i was thinking about getting a s9plus or a OP6t. that is because i like a lot the design of both the phones and the different functions (from water resistance, qi charge, better photos and nice notch/slide-less design by s9p to the in-display fingerprint sensor and veeeery nice software of the op6t ). I really wish there was something around 250/300€ with the functions of both but couldn't find it, and since i can actually buy a still premium phone like those for just 250, probably i'll just stick with one of them. which one?
i’d really like to get a stock aosp/pixel experience with the samsung but can't find a good rom, should i choose the op6t? what is the actual modding situation from the inside?

Seeing that this phone isn't that old, and yet, there's so little activity for it and its non + variant. It's really surprising when In the past I had far less popular and expensive phones, and there were A LOT more people working on custom ROMs and a bunch of other stuff, when they were far older than this phone currently is. Don't get me wrong, there is people working on it, but not many.
I'd definitely look for a different phone at this point if you want a new one.

I remember the days, i have the s10+ unlocked version (U1) and i upgraded to android 10 and honestly not that hyped about it either. I still have my Note 3 and Note 4 and play with them because i miss the rooting and my freedom to do whatever i wanted with MY phone.
This trend where we can root and unlock will come to an end just like Apple killed jailbraking Samsung is slowly following Apple like a little sheep started with phone jack to locking bootloaders for them rooting is cancer that needs to be eradicated asap.
I bought the s9+ from amazon last week the G9650 and plan on rooting it later because i miss it that much but i'm staying on Pie (9) for a while longer
I wondered about this too and the most plausible explanation is that many of the great Devs aren't from 1st world nations and the phones can be pricey for them to get hold of to produce ROMs etc.
This is especially holds true since high end mobile phones are $1000+ now and their monthly pay might be a couple of hundred.
Honestly I think modding is no longer that fun like before with many security updates to android that complicates
and dicourages hobbyist developer..nowadays it will cost a lot of effort and money for developers just to come up with something..
Wanna play with admin rights and do whatever you want with a smartphone like the good old days ?
Buy a OnePlus device and enjoy.
Stay away from Samsung.
If you care about modding go with oneplus or a pixel device. Stay far away from Snapdragon Samsung devices.
