Battery stats and accelerometer help! - Xperia Z5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
Just got my brand new green z5. Running on stock lollipop rom, there's no marshmallow update yet for my Singapore set. I'm having WiFi always draining the battery in the battery stats reading. I've turn off the WiFi always scanning and WiFi always on during sleep to "off" too but it doesn't stop the draining.
My accelerometer is slightly off by 0.1 for x and y axis when the phone is flat. If I were to tilt it to the right, meaning the Sony logo is on the right side of my hand when turned horizontally, it'll be off by 0.2, so racing game would be unpleasant as I need to tilt to the right to move straight in the game. Not much of a problem if I were to tilt it horizontally to the left. Just want to check if my accelerometer is working fine and how to stop the WiFi from draining the battery too. Thank you!

Anyone able to help me out here?

I'm on HTC Sense for the today screen and the battery just almost die in 1 day?
anyone do something to fix it?
Hi, well I don't really get the same problem as people on this forum regarding the battery. On normal usage I have to charge the phone every 2 or 3 days. Maybe its just the way I use my phone...
Heres a few suggestions:
Try disabling the auto backlight function and setting brightness to just 10%. Afterall the big screen goes someway to eating up the battery.
Turn off any functions you aren't currently using. i.e. turn off bluetooth, wifi, hspda etc when you dont need them.
Also have you done a true full charge yet? It took me 3 full charges. i.e. use phone until 2% or there abouts. Then charge fully overnight. I did this 3 times and noticed the battery life got better. Others may tell you don't need to. But that is just my experience so i would share it with you.
Hope some of that can help.
I have expirenced increased battery life by disabling the HTC location services and GPS assist (quick GPS). Actually a dramatical improvement, which could also be expirenced by checking the temperature of the device. With GPS assist and location services turned on, the device was hot, and with the services disables it was *a lot* colder...

disbled the backlight now. 10% brightness? it is alittle too dim? I will stick for 40%. It sucks the battery too quickly, so i charge it when it was down to 10%.
Next time I will do it when it on 2%, and check out the difference

[Q] 5hr 31min screen on constant use.with pics.stock battery is this good?

So I finally think I got my phone set up how I want it. I was wondering if you guys think that this is good? As far as screen time and length of constant usage it is the best i have had. I dont know how it will be under normal usage but i am hoping i will be able to go a whole day when i am not TRYING to burn out the battery.
My phone seems to be running awesome and real smooth minus the proximity sensor problem on phone calls... and the occasional wierd little glitchiness from the ICS tiny bugs. like once the white text turn green in lock screen and lock screen didnt sense my touch and kept green flickering. forcing me to pull the battery. With the occasional little glitches that make me turn it off and then on to reset it. Had it since it leaked and have had to restart and pull battery a total of maybe 5 times. With gingerbread I would have glitched maybe once every couple weeks.
MY Phone:
NS4G ICS 4.0.4 IMM26 Stock n Locked.
Some GApps disabled that I don't use. I leave off GMAPS until I use it. Only a couple widgets on my home screens.
Obviously have it setup with a black background. Settings how I like them now. Had the screen on the whole time to test this. Screen brightness around 60%. This is the best battery usage I have had. When checking running apps my Ram usage is right around 140 used with no apps open. Just in case anyone is wondering.
I had 3g on at first 2 bar signal for the first couple hours. I was on the internet cruising forums, groupon, craigslist, watching rock climbing videos. played some bubble blast. a little bit of gt academy racing and some other games.
then turned on wimax with great signal the second half. doing the same stuff. scren on the whole time. playing with my phone the whole time. except for maybe 30+ minutes when i was eating and stuff.
Before this on gingerbread, I averaged about 3 hrs screen on time. Also when I first loaded ICS I BURNED thru battery Under this type of usage.
here are my screen shots. IS THIS GOOD,GREAT OR NORMAL OR WHAT you think?
With my combo i get more than that. Playing all the time, with wi-fi on, 3G always, i get over 7/8hrs.
all depends on rom/kernel selected..

I would say five and a half hours sounds pretty decent even with brightness at 60 percent. I keep my screen on auto brightness but have never tried leaving my screen on nonstop. I should try it sometime lol

Thanks for responding everyone.
Jinsoku3g- What setup are you running? About how long do you think you burn thru a battery at those settings i described?
Kalitza-
WOW that is a lot. What combo do you have? What brightness setting? I am trying to compare what i can get before i go the custom rom route to make sure it is worth it.. If i can actually get 2 hours more screen on time with the same screen brightness settings then i would definitley make the switch. Lower brightness settings and auto brightness saves a ton of battery and bumps me around the 7 hour mark.... considering auto bright mode is always around 25-30% when i check it. my screen is never over 70%... it is so bright i cant look at it up close.. lol...
Also, are you OClock'd/UC and/or OVolt'd/UV?
So as long as we are at comparable screen bright levels. It makes me think how much better it could be. Would like to plz know yer stats upon testing? Screen % and Oc/Ov-Uc/Uv. Do you have any screenshots?
Thanks for the input guys. I am always up for hearing more about where i stand in your opinions. I know why/why not to root and all that. Just wanting to see if my stockness tweaked is comparable enough to please my needs.

One X Gets Hot without use and battery life tanks

I've been noticing less than stellar battery life ever since I got my One X.
Lately I have noticed that sometimes my One X will get slightly hot under use(around the camera area), and then after I'm done using it, it still hot and my battery drains like crazy.
I turn the screen off, kill all apps, wait 5, 10, 30 minutes, even one hour I have waited, and the phone is still warm!
I don't use any apps that run in the background or have services that use a lot of battery. I've checked logcat, betterbatterystats, Cpu Spy and can't find anything wrong. I've tried different roms and the same thing happens.
The fix is simple. I just power it off and on and the problem goes away for a few hours, but then comes back! When I power it off, the area gets ice cold in less than 3 minutes , which tells me something is going on.
I can't figure out a pattern to trigger it but it seems to happen most when my phone switches to WiFi from LTE or vice versa.
Has anyone noticed this? It's been incredibly frustrating.
-----------------------------------------------------
After months and months the problem has been found and resolved. It was due to an LTE bug that would happen in certain areas(such as subway stations) if you lost all signal and then regained. The phone would get warm and battery would drop significantly, as much as 2% per minute. The drain would not stop until a full restart.
After trying many many roms, and after about a month testing it, this one has the problem fixed. I haven't tested other ROMS and quite frankly it works so well that I didn't bother testing for other ROMs.
I have this problem too. I put mine to sleep, after waking up from an hour nap the darn thing is hot! And of course the battery drained like crazy. Although it's too early to come to a conclusion, but so far it hasn't happened ever since I turned off autosync and wifi every time I take a nap..
Run betterbatterystats and carat, they can all identify various issues.
My phone does not deep sleep at all. Wtf?
I'm having the same problem, carat and bbs aren't helping
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
See if there are rouge apps running in the background that are keeping the phone from deep sleeping.
Go to Settings -> Wifi -> Advanced -> Best Wi-Fi Performance and make sure it's unchecked. It's been known to prevent deep sleep. I'm not sure it would cause such a huge drop in life or the heat, but every little bit helps.
Glad to know I'm not the only one experiencing this. I'm an advanced user, I've tried everything, carat, BetterBatteryStats, aLogcat, System Panel, Cpu spy, you name it. The phone is actually deep sleeping.
Also, I've noticed that the radio area gets hot more than the cpu area, so it might be a radio issue? I'm running baseband 0.17.32.09.12_10.86.32.08U .

I'm on 0.17.32.09.12_10.86.32.08L (same as you, except for the L). I noticed that you mentioned that it may be when you're switching between WiFi and LTE, maybe it's continuing to hold on to that LTE connection? Also, where is the radio area in relation to the CPU? I know the CPU is right underneath the camera.

What is the difference between the L and the U? I've never flashed any radios so I guess I'm using the stock one from the 1.85 update.
I actually just assumed it's the radio because I was testing a cpu stress app to see if it would get "locked" in a high frequency thus causing the drain, but the area that got hot was to left of the camera area, and usually when the problem happens I can sense the warmth more to the right, around the LED flash.
I just charged my phone to 100% and it got warm, I unplugged it and waited a few minutes and the phone was still hot. I turned the phone off and in a matter of minutes (Like 4) , the phone was ice cold again. The plot thickens...

I don't know what the difference is. I'm running CleanROM DE so it could be that the L is just the radio from 1.88. I never had this heat issue on 1.73, 82, or 85 though. Just the normal amount that threatens to burn your hand off while playing Angry Birds. Maybe try disabling LTE? (Don't ask me how to do that)

Disabling LTE (By changing the APN settings) , makes my 4G(Non-LTE) connection unstable, for some reason. I experience a ton of data drops , so even if fixes the heat problem, it would create a new one. My data connection is rock solid when using the LTE APN .
I'm running stock 1.85 and the battery is great

I had a similar problem before until I installed CleanROM LE 2.0 (and above) I noticed the problem when I connected to wifi after I had lost signal from my commute every day. BBS didn't really help, and it seemed the problem would compound over time, eventually getting to a point where I was losing 3% battery ever couple of minutes.
After I installed the Lite Edition, the problem hasn't appeared since. Battery life seems to be draining normally and the phone doesn't get hot when not in use. It could be something that was removed from Sense that helped the issue, but I'm honestly not sure.
I do remember that before I switched to the Lite edition I tinkered with some settings, and I noticed that Latitude was set to update my location. I turned it off (it's off by default on the Lite Edition ROM), but I'm not sure if that helped my problem. Maybe try disabling that and see what happens.

Can anyone chime in on the difference between the L and the U in the radios?

There's a thread with flashable versions of all the known radios floating about...There's nothing with a U in it except the Asian radio, but the rest of the baseband version number doesn't match.

He fixed that now so even the Asian version apparently ends with an L. Does that mean I have an unkown baseband? doubtful. I have installed sick sense hox and so far so good. We'll see.
deep sleep and warm back.
I've noticed this, too.
I've woken up in the middle of the night to encounter my screen on and no gain in battery charge with a super warm back.
Last night I plugged it up at 73% and I woke up this morning with 71% and a fry-an-egg-hot back.
Restarting resolves the issue, and this is only the second timein about 1.5 months, but a concerning issue nonetheless.
Blame calendar sync
I had the exact same problem, and I narrowed it down to auto-sync.
In particular, my phone was constantly sync'ing my work calendar (my work place uses Google calendar/mail). I have a lot of recurring (weekly) events on that calendar, and one of those events was modified shortly before the sync started acting crazy.
How I fixed it:
1. Go into Settings > Apps > All
For "Calendar" and "Calendar Storage" apps, press the "Clear Data" button.
2. Removed my work Google account and re-added it.
Obviously, if it's not the sync that's causing the battery drain or you don't have any calendars synced, then this is not going to fix anything. Just thought I'd share my particular case with everyone.

Atrix 2 Extremly High Battery Drain

Hi
my atrix 2 is losing 1 % battery in a minute, in 20 minutes it went down to 80% after a full charge. its happening since yesterday. also my lcd has a big dead pixel on top left looks like solar eclipse. could it be because of that? i've not installed anything in the phone lately. i put in another battery but it is the same thing. battery drains out to 0 in an hour.
whats the problem? it shows screen usage super high on idle !?
any advise
thanks

Firstly...there is a million reason for battery leak like that "could be software or hardware"
Secondly... go HERE and download the excellent app BBS (Better Battery Status) to report which app is exactly eating your battery "note that download section is in the second post of BBS thread"
also there is known bug in Atrix 2 "and old RAZR I guess" which report a fake screen consumption and push it to the top consumers "it doesn't matter if you have a hardware black dots problem or not" so those black dots are not the battery problem.....BTW here is a great way to solve your LCD and get rid of those black pixels HERE
Another great solution.....reboot your phone in safe mode "which means that no downloaded apps will run in background" only the sock apps will run normally How to do that (( just press the power button until you see the "Power Off" dialog then press and hold "Power off" option until you see a message asking you to reboot in safe mode press yes and voila )) if you want to load apps again and back to normal just restart as normal again.
then wait and see if the battery still drains that fast or not
NOTE: I'm not really sure that safe mode feature exist on ICS 4.0.4 or not! as I'm on 4.4 kitkat along time ago :
i think the big blue dot is the problem. the phone is hot all the time. and the dot is hottest part of the screen. i can feel it on my thumb , the rest of the screen isn't hot. now i see that the aura around the big dot is getting bigger n bigger, and it displays screen usage high in idle. here are the BBS screenshots. i am going to put the phone in the fridge and hope it solves the problem.
About getting hot...it's normally that your whole phone gets hot as it didn't enter "deep sleep" but that's really strange that that dot is more hot than other screen parts as the screen is just a very thin glass over a kind of steel to reflect light, that steel plan surface is just above the main board which leaks heat so it means that there is a direct contact between the main board and the screen on that faulty part "maybe because you have pressed on that part too much"
anyway to make sure that apps in not the problem, try to turn off WIFI and reboot in safe mode or at least turn off sync and other apps manually "as your phone has entered deep sleep only for 17m while the processor keeps running at highest level 1ghz for along time".
before the blue dot it had only a thin line in that area which turn into this big blue splotch, it happend because i was trying to pull out my Atrix 2 out of the case. I bend to much probably then the next day the thin line appeared then after 2 weeks that line became this big dot., im really frustrated now. i will just replace the lcd.
thanks alot for helping
alright i replaced the LCD and the battery drain is the same. i even reflashed the stock rom , battery cant be the problem coz i put another battery it drains out just like the other one. and my front camera is disabled. could that be eating the bettery?

Try Greenify or check what is causing wake locks....as ur fone seems to be showing high usage even while idle. :silly:
i monitored BBS and it shows high usage in "Deep Sleep" battery drain rate is 58.8%/hour. i installed paranoid android in system 3 but drains just like stock rom. my front camera is disabled it doesn't show up anywhere,
in partial wake locks - audioOUT_1 in on top
in kernel wake locks - caif_hsi is on top

You can try install PA on your main system..as you say PA rom give you the stock battery draining...
but make sure you use PA minimal gapps bcoz our main system has limitation for system data ...
PA rom does not give me stock battery draining, stock rom was draining my battery even before installing PA 2 months ago. i thought my LCD was the problem because it had huge black dot on it, i changed LCD myself now i still have the battery drain problem, is there anything i can try before i lose hopes and send it to motorola repair center?

Really bad battery life

Hello all,
I just bought a new galaxy s7 silver (exynos variant) around 3 days ago and my battery life seems to be really bad. I've only managed to achieve 1h 56m screen on time and I'm already at 41%! I keep auto brightness on and leave always on display off and don't keep things like mobile data active. If anyone can suggest how to fix this it would be phenomenal .
I was quite sad considering I have heard of people who can achieve 5+ hours screen on time with regular usage and not having to compromise on switching everything off .
Thanks for the help in advance
Do you have Google Chrome installed? And can you see something like "media server" in you battery usage log as a high power consumer?

I would send you a picture of my battery statistics but for some reason every time I try to upload a picture I get "network error"
My top consumers are :
Screen 31%
Android system 19%
Android OS 9%
Cell standby 7%
Mediaserver 4%
And Also I do have Google Chrome installed
Good day.
Try this and see if it works:
-In settings -> privacy and safety -> location -> improve accuracy - Turn off wifi scanning (The phone turns on and off wifi regularly for location purposes and it uses some battery)
-In settings -> Display - Turn off smart stay
-In settings -> Advanced features - Turn off pop-up view gesture, Smart capture, palm swype to capture, smart alert and easy mute.
-In settings -> Accounts - Turn off auto sync
Turn off hardware step counter at S-health app.
Use Greenify to hibernate samsung and google play app and services.
And if you want to stretch it more have a look at this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/how-to/touchwiz-bloatware-save-to-remove-list-t3330241)
Hope it works for you.

Hi mate,
The 2nd guy in this post touched on it. When you see Mediaserver on your battery stats it's normally a sign that your phone, since being on, has got quite hot and there has been substantial battery drain. I've had this same issue before too. Factory resetting etc wouldn't help. And the phone would get so hot. Eventually I read and found a link between Google chrome and Mediaserver. I deleted chrome and mysteriously the issue left, that was on my last s7. My current s7 I got yesterday and haven't got this issue once, despite using chrome right now.

Yeah I did notice that the phone was heating up rapidly and my battery life was falling heavily. I will delete it and give an update to see if it works.
Thank you
Right I tried it and at first I thought that it worked but then today I am down to 25% with only 2h 5mns screen on time. Anyone got any other ideas?
Sorry read that wrong lol I read 25% battery for 2 hrs screen on time!
Accounts syncing in the background could be a culprit or some of the fancy software functionality that Samsung cook in to touchwiz. I generally don't have anything working or syncing that I don't use.
Might be worth going through all of your settings one by one. That's what I did when I first got the phone.

I'll give it a shot , how does your battery life seems to do? also, do you use power saving mode ?
At this moment in time I've had 2 hours 44 minutes of screen on time and I've got 53% battery left.
The majority of that usage has been on WiFi though and I do have auto brightness enabled. One thing I have noticed about the s7 screen is, it is very good quality and incredibly bright. I have spent a good amount of time tweaking the auto brightness so the screen isn't any brighter than it needs to be in various light conditions.
I was suffering from rapid battery draining and the phone getting overly warm when I had Google Chrome installed. I've removed it, and it has taken those issues away completely.
I have come from a nexus 6p and don't miss the extra 500mAh of battery to be honest.
3hr 28 minutes of screen on time now with 43% battery left. Still on WiFi but have been playing a bit of order and chaos 2, reading the news, browsing forums and general Internet surfing. I don't have much on in terms of push notifications other than Gmail and have my Samsung Internet app syncing and some stuff related to my Google account.
If it's of any help at all, my phone is on the 3 network in the UK running the stock 3 branded firmware.

Good news mate!
Alright all was going well regarding batteey life until recently when it began to slack off again. I hopped in to srttings see what was consuming all of my battery life and it said android system. Anyone know what that's all about?
