Does the International version support Wi-Fi calling and VolTE on T-Mobile? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

I'm on T-Mobile, but I would rather buy the International version of the S7 to eliminate bloatware and to have the Exynos processor, not to mention the unlocked S7 is cheaper. However, I would like to use VolTE and Wi-Fi calling too. Will I have these features if I buy the international unlocked version?

I've never had any of my unlocked phones support WiFi calling or VoLTE, only T-Mobile branded phones did.

you will probably have to flash the t-mobile roms from your country (I guess states?!). If you get a exynos S7 and some t-mobile usa branded roms for that VoLTE and WiFiCalling shouldn't be a problem. Getting those roms for the SM-G930F might be your biggest problem.
-Acid

How readily will the roms be available? I remember doing it for my HTC One M7 a few times and it wasn't too bad.
I also thought some phones like the Nexus 6P supported VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling on T-Mobile?

The intl version does not have band 12, wifi calling on TMO, or VoLTE support on TMO.
Don't do it.

Thanks.

That's because t mobile used to add their specific code to their phones' firmware. But now they're built into android so they may work.

When you state now they're built in, do you mean in Marshmallow?

I remember reading that's how the Nexus 6p gained the ability to use band 12 LTE support.
http://www.tmonews.com/2015/12/some...nd-12-lte-support-after-android-6-0-1-update/

Unbranded versions of the firmware do not support VOLTE for some inexplicable reason (the feature is there, just hidden), while some carriers do, they even use the same firmware with only a CSC change (like unbranded the XEF French unbranded firmware vs French Bouygues BOG firmware)
There is no T-mobile USA firmware for the Exynos/international variant but there are plenty of European carrier that handle VOLTE and have no branding, just flash the respective firmwares or CSC using ODIN (does not trip knox) which will enable the feature (you may need to perform a factory init to apply the CSC change)

I'm using the latest XEF firmware in my s6 intl 920F. Where do you get the csc to flash to enable these features?

That's for nexus devices, Samsung only enables WiFi calling on carrier branded ROM's.
If you buy the unlocked international version, you will not get VOLTE or WiFi calling. You will get band 12.

Isn't this the first Samsung phone that comes with marshmallow?
Before marshmallow, wifi calling had to be added by the carrier to their rom like t-mobile did on moto and samsung phones.
I don't know for sure, just speculating

Can anyone actually confirm who had the Intl version that volte doesn't work

I don't have the s7, but I did have the international note 5. When i received the marshmallow ota, a volte icon appeared in the quick toggles bar. When i tried to click it to turn volte on an error message popped saying that carrier is not supported. I tried both with a T-Mobile and at&t sim.
The s7 may be different, but I highly doubt it.

Best USA GS 7 version with most band support?

I am leaving the post paid cell service and going prepaid.
I since majority if prepaid US prepaid carriers are Sprint, T-Mobile and some AT&T. I want a GS 7 that will support all three carriers with as much bands possible.
Any suggestions for carrier versions or does the Sprint version support (once unlocked) support AT&T and T-Mobile.
There's only 1 model variant in the US now - they all have the same band support - it all depends on firmware as to what bands are active.
But one thing to consider is that while a Verizon/Sprint phone may work on Tmobile/AT&T the same might not be the case the other way around because the AT&T/Tmo phone will probably have the bands disabled in the FW
Just to show this is my tmobile S7, wcdma bands that are enabled - so seems it would support Verizon/Sprint on bands 800/850/1900/2100 -- 2100 is a band not listed on Phonescoop FYI

Guess we'll have to wait until a Sprint/Verizon person gets their phones and get into the service menu to see what it looks like
Wasn't sure if they were the same thing (left Sprint well over a decade ago for GSM and never looked back lol)
But based on your info, then my first comment is probably true - Tmo/AT&T variants will not work on Sprint/Verizon due to not having the proper FW

Is this right? The FCC filing shows 5 models (SM-G930V [Verizon], SM-G930P [Sprint], SM-G930R4, SM-G930A [ATT], SM-G930T [T-Mobile]). It shows each version having support for different bands.
How would one go about changing the firmware? For instance, if I have the VZW version (doesn't support LTE Band 12) and want to use it on T-Mobile, how would I change the firmware to T-Mobile's?

Has that been ever done successfully on any of the carrier devices? You couldn't do that on the S6 to enable certain bands. I'm not too familiar with the other devices.

Well looking at Phonescoop, the S6 had separate CDMA and GSM models. Based on my understanding of the S7, there is 1 phone for the US market (where each carrier has their own model #) but internally the phone is the same.
The only other phone I can think of that had 1 variant for the US market was the iPhone (where each phone internally was the same and the bands that were active was dependent on the FW)

I think on the S5 you could change some of the NV to enable different bands. The iPhones are all one variant and they don't disable certain bands either. I have a 6S+ on T-Mobile (supports all bands); if I swap the sim for Verizon, it'll work on all of Verizon's lte bands as well. The S7 for verizon shows support for bands 2/4/5/13 so I'm not sure if I were to place a T-Mobile sim that it'll enable band 12 since it's not enabled on Verizon's version.
I guess we'll have to wait and see if it's truly one variant of the S7 in the US.
I'm in the UK, I'm wanting the S7 Edge - but don't want the 8890. The screengrab shows it supporting the main UK bands too.. Hm! Can you get simfree phones in US?

Figured out on the Tmobile variant how to set preferred band.
For me Band 12 is great for calls/texts in my building but HORRIBLE for data so I always switch to Band 4 as my only lte band (which means I don't get calls since I have VoLTE off but no biggie).
To do this on the S7 requires a few more steps than the S6, you have to
*#2263# for service menu
Select clear all bands
Then select LTE band preferences and choose the band you want
Then hit the more button(top right hand corner) and select back
Then hit Apply band band configuration
To revert back to normal go back into the service menu and choose select all bands and then choose apply band configuration

We normally can purchase phones outright but they are usually branded by their carrier. AFAIK, there wont be a unbranded version in the US. However, isnt the S7 doing something with the phone locking to the first sim/carrier being placed in the phone?
i have a g930t that is working with a Verizon sim card in it . and this is what i did
1: i used the sim unlock app on the s7 tmobile to unlock my phone
2: then flash g930u firmeware
3: i dont know if this one helped or not but i did *#2263# to slect all the bands.
4: turned off the phone
5ut the verizon sim card and turned it on
6: after it finished booting up the phone you will see a message on the screen that will say something like" need to reboot to configurate your sim card" hit ok and let it reboot.
enjoy
Can one use a G930P (Sprint S7) on T-Mobile USA with full band usage? I am assuming the phone would need to have a custom ROM on it.

Why not get Canadian GS7?!?

So, if we aren't able to get root for US variants, what would be the downfall of getting an unlocked (and root) Canadian variant and using it in the US?

Interesting. And a Canadian gsm device could potentially be made to work on tmo. Might take some creativity and a mixture of hybrid software and patches but it sounds feasible; I'm so glad I waited to get one! Makes me wonder if the bootloader being locked is what's taking so long to bring us variants up to 6.0.1, could they be looking to release mm by ota and locking our bl's in the process?
Edit: cuz i sure don't want to end up updating to mm only to find my T variant now has a locked MM BL!

It does not.
If volte and WiFi calling are important stick with the T model
The specs show that the Canadian model supports all the T-Mobile and AT&T LTE: Bands (2/4/5/12/13/17/25/30/41) as well as the 4g HSPA frequencies (850/900/1700/1900/2100)
If you live near Vancouver, Edmonton of Toronto, you can get an unbranded one from a Samsung Experience store and it comes with factory unlock codes
Of course no T-Mobile VOLTE or wifi calling. But everything else, including fully rootable

The whole reason we want the T-Mobile one unlocked is because AOSP does not support Exynos. There is much more potential for ROM development on the SD820 than on the Exynos. At this point though the Exynos does seem better than the locked Snapdragon. It is also possible that the Chinese version might be the best of both worlds (Unlocked BL+SD820) but I have not heard much on if it supports the important 4G bands for ATT/T-Mobile.

I think in gonna take a look at that now. I personally don't use wifi calling at all, alright i have to admit volte would be a loss for me, well with the loss of the ims service for advanced messaging and i believe native video calling, but an unlocked bootloader and faster exynos (i haven't flashed an aosp rom in forever) chip is almost a flat trade in my book. I might consider it if development for the s7 exynos starts looking promising. I wouldn't be against a fly unlocked exynos s7 edge, that'd be pretty sweet if there were a few roms and some kernel love from a couple devs, but that requires source code so.........time will tell i guess.

it's frustrating that others have said recently that band 12 is NOT supported. what about wifi calling?
Hi there !
I belive that WIFI calling and the reduced Internet speed while on a phone call, are the two things that are different on the Exynos. Tell me how to check and make sure WiFi doea not work and I will try for you. I have tested the second one, and indeed the Internet speed is way reduced when talking on phone. Depending where you are, it is either H+ or 3G.

i believe there should be a setting for wifi calling within the "more connection settings". if it's not showing within the settings, then it's not supported.
as for band 12, how reliable is that app you used? a lot of people have mentioned that band 12 is not supported on the exynos model, so i'm really curious how yours has it.
thanks!
OK, there is no WiFi calling setting under there.
As for how reliable the App is, I have no idea, sorry. I searched and found it was mentioned in XDA for checking this kind of settings/capabilities. I will take a screen capture of it once I am in a building and it is showing the band used. My understanding is that LTE Band 12 is particularly good and improves signal inside buildings.

The Internattional version does support band 12. and it works, however for VoLTE you have to find a firmware that has it which is hard. the Czech t-mobile firmware has VoLTE but no WiFi calling
The "F" international version also has Band 17 for AT&T
why do people who DON'T have the phone act like they know what they are talking about.
Works fine on T-Mo, and ATT. you just miss out on some of the bands, and also carrier features like VoLTE.
my 930F works fine on Tmo. and it'll work fine on ATT as well.

4G = LTE. Go to SETTINGS>ABOUT PHONE>STATUS>SIM CARD STATUS and you should see LTE under Mobile network type. that's how i determine LTE access... there's also an app name LTE Discovery that can be used to determine which band you're using. by the way, i believe 4G+ is LTE-A, or carrier aggregation, which is faster than standard LTE..

not sure... i do know that when i use my T-Mo SIM (vs ATT) calls are super clear. i'm using my ATT account at the moment because i'm tethering my laptop and TIDAL HiFi music in my car. (my monthly data allowance with ATT is 100GB + rollover).

If it drops to H/H+ then you don't have VoLTE. If it stays 4G then you have VoLTE.

It should be if band 12 is supported. VoLTE is software driven also so maybe a custom ROM will add it in. Waiting...

Wouldn't matter on band support. VOLTE should work on all supported LTE bands for T-Mobile. If it drops to H then that means there is not VOLTE support for T-Mobile.

It should be using the Tmobile csc to get Volte support..
I have US and international version, US version supports Volta same sim not supporting in international version... Problem is due to the Csc configured to the international version won't support Tmobile Volta..
Unless we have success in flashing tmobile Csc it won't work same as WiFi calling

Goes back to what I said. Wouldn't matter the band. If the support isn't there which as you pointed out it doesn't support the CSC.

Yeah don't listen to this guy. The F model is exynos correct? That means no Tmobile software.
The F model you bought might be region locked so it may not work in the USA right now without unlocking it. I know there have been other threads about this not sure if a solution has been found or not.

whoops lol. Forgot if F or FD variants of the S8+ uses Exynos 8895, and U.S. models use Snapdragon 835.

Qestion about Samsung note 10+ SM-N9750 compatibility with US carriers

Hello
I have question... do any of you use it Samsung note 10+ SM-N9750 international unlocked with US carriers?
it's this model samsung unlocked for volte & wifi calling for any US operators? (like, t-mobile, at&t, google fi or for other? )
Thank you
SM-N9750 is a dual sim, unlock work on LTE but you will see 4G, it work in Canada and US however does not support VOLTE, wifi calling, samsung RCS does not work, if you want the RCS you need to download the Google message app, now there is a thread already where you can root the device and enable the VOLTE and wifi calling. hope this help.

From what I understand, you can call Tmobile and register your IMEI with them (unlocked device). After that VoLTE and Wifi calling will work, but not video calling.

are you sure i can call Tmobile and register your IMEI with them? and later will Volte and wifi calling work? Do you have confirmed information for this?
Which model note 10+ do I need to have? only with Snapdragon (of course I'm only interested in the dual sim version) will it also work on Exynos?
Thank you

I have BRI CSC (Taiwan). Wifi Calling button screeny attached.
Only issue is that carrier aggregation doesn't work.
As a added Note, VoLTE and Wifi Calling also works on my S8+ Exynos on XSA (Australia) CSC

Essentially, you will only be able to connect to 1 LTE band at a time, which means you will see slower speeds compared to a US Note10+. Basically, no problem with LTE data but could have slower data speed sometimes compared to US Note10+.

Thank you now I understand. But this is not a problem for me because currently I have the same because I have a note 9 dual sim with exynos. More important for me, it's wifi calling and volte.
Can you add a few screen from settings folder with settings wifi calling and Volte?
do use now dual sim ? One sim it's from t-mobile and have wifi calling and second sim card does not work on wifi calling?

Settings screenies attached. I am using both sims as you can see I have 2 dialing buttons.
AT&T doesn't open up VoLTE and VoWifi to non whitelisted phones, so it only shows on one sim. I just turn the setting off because it doesn't work anyways.

very good news I have t-mobile usa, so it should be ok.
did you use sim card a different provider from outside the USA?
Actually, T-Mobile is my "outside" sim card. I mainly use AT&T and switch to T-Mobile for reception/unlimited data.

Reviving an old post here...
Are you still using this device and still with AT&T and T-Mobile. Any long term issues or challenges?
I'm on the same carriers; T-Mobile personal (and primary) and AT&T (work). I'm most concerned about VoWiFi and VoLTE on T-Mobile. With AT&T, as long as it rings and I can get texts, I'm good.
Finally, I believe you said further up that you got it on ebay...any chance you recall the seller?
Thanks!

No usage issues at all. VoLTE and VoWifi works on T-Mobile. VoLTE works with AT&T. SMS and MMS works.
I got it from never-msrp.

I also see no B66 or B71 on this device. Where are you located and do you find you're at a disadvantage not having these?

I am not in a rural area or a dense metro area so those do not affect my receptions. Also I mainly use AT&T and switch to T-Mobile for data depending on reception.
Speed wise, it will be slower on benchmarks due to the lack of carrier aggregation (and b29, b30 missing for AT&T), but it doesn't affect my real world usage: chat/email, web browsing, music streaming, remote desktop.
Need a help here, please. I have a note 10 plus SM-N9750 with CSC tgy/tgy,tgy/tgy. Can i flash some unlocked global rom? Some stuffs are in Chinese and Samasung keyboard don't have Portuguese from brazil
Mine is N9750ZSU1BTA1, dual chip snapdragon 855
