[Material][4.0.3+][Captive Portal Helper] Wifi Auto Login - Android Apps and Games

Have you ever been to a place where you have to go enter your credentials to log into via a wifi captive portal?
Those things are present everywhere now from Guest Wifi networks at hotels to corporate Wifi networks. I was annoyed at having to enter my credentials again and again every day so I made this app to automate that task. You just have to record your login steps only ONCE and WiFi Auto Login replays them when ever required without any manual interaction from you. This app works fine for Android versions from Ice Cream Sandwich to Marshmallow. Let me know if you guys find any issues in using my app.
Without further Ado, Here is the app .

When you come up against any captive portal, my app will automatically pop up and ask for your credentials to log into that portal, let me know if you find that non-intuitive I will look into adding a info screen on first install of the app.

Just to check that out, I have tried to logged out 3 times, but nothing happens. In fact I have set Automate authentication ON but no help.
To my knowledge, I had to submit credential in order to logged back IN.

When the Wifi Sign In is requested, it might open up a browser automatically, make sure you are entering your credentials inside my app and not in the browser. And make sure you tick on "Store Password" and also "Automate this for this site everytime" when you enter the credentials.
And finally, if you do not mind, can you tell me the credentials requested by your captive portal?
Weather username, email and password or does it require anything more custom?

Hey any updates?
Let me know if it worked and if it is automatically logging in for you now correctly.
I am looking for feedback if it worked, or I might have to tweak my algo a bit to search for more custom values in credentials..

Nope, not exactly how you're describing.
After several attempts only once it showed a pop up to login but that to for browser only there wasn't anything inside your app.
I am guessing may be my method could be wrong in order to do it correctly. Also I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling it., But every time it shows some test.portal site? Is it by default?
IMO some more tweaking may require and Authetication duration is quite long, It should be once and Boom! But it takes 2-3 attempts just to get login page, and that happened only twice which links to browser for login and not into your app.

If you do not mind, can you tell me the credentials requested by your captive portal?
Weather username, email and password or anything else?
And here is a short tutorial till I can incorporate a tutorial into my app :
1) You can just ignore the test.portal or you can press the checkbox next to it and press the delete button at the bottom to delete it. That will not affect anything else, I will remove it in the next iteration of the app.
2) Notice the very big button called "checking.." at the bottom of the app after you open it? Please wait for a few seconds and if it detects that you are connected to a Wifi network but not connected to internet, it will turn to "Authenticate". Once that button is enabled, you just click that button and it should take you to another screen in my app with blue background saying "I see you are having troubles logging into this WiFi Automatically. I can help you automate it." and ask for your username and password or email and password or whatever it is that your portal requires. (Note that this entire step is optional since when you turn off your wifi and turn it on and internet is not connected my app should automatically pop up and ask for your username and password but for some reason this doesn't seem to be happening in your case).
3) And make sure you tick on "Store Password" and also "Automate this for this site everytime" when you enter the credentials.
4) Make sure the big button next to "Background authentication is" has ON and that's it, my app will fire up everytime you are connected to Wifi but not connected to internet and it will automatically enter that credentials you entered to my app.

Sorry for delay in response actually.,
1,3,4 Steps I have done correctly
2 Step is where all problem lies, as you assumed I am not receiving any pop ups as you've mentioned here. After hitting Authenticate, it started to search something but after a while it comes back to Authenticate option again. After few attempts it lead me to link to browser where I suppose not to enter the credentials. Since you told me not to enter those into browser I've tried looking for an option inside your app. But no luck.

Weird, when you press the Authenticate button it shouldn't search anything at all, it should immediately move you to the credentials screen.
Can you please try one more thing to see if that works?
Manually turn off and after a few seconds turn on your wifi when you are logged out of the captive portal. That should trigger the WifiReader to re-read the info again.

I'm sorry to say, But that way also not working. In fact I've tried several different ways to get into it. So far only once it shows to enter credentials and that to with Browser link to open. There's nowhere i could be able to look for an option to enter credentials.
Something is missing for sure. :fingers-crossed:

Sorry to hear that, but anyways thank you very much for your feedback.
I really appreciate that.
I will try to add an option to send debug logs to me before production release to handle these kind of situations.

This app works fine. Thanks for making my life simpler. There are more than 15 access points for the guest wifi, when I go to a different floor or to a washroom, wifi gets disconnected. Thanks for making this app, it saved a lot of time and frustration. It is very easy on the battery and does its job in milliseconds.
Just put your name and contact in the app, I had to search entire XDA to find this post to say "Thanks!"

There are a couple of different Public WiFi that use Captive Portal and request a form fill to let users in.
However none of them seems to work.
Willing to test and provide useful info to help in developing...

@anantharam, are you still working on this? I just tried it out on my Pixel 2 running Android 9 and it shows that it's online when the networks are still asking for sign-in and the sign-in notification is still showing.
My city recently installed free wifi downtown, which is awesome, but I have to keep jumping through these pages to use it. Your app would be a godsend!

@MMcCubbing Thanks for your interest in this.
Unfortunately the app is currently taken down from the play store for some licencing reasons, I am trying to work with Google to try to bring back the app.
As for your particular question, if my app shows it is online, then it means my app is able to talk to the internet. At that point if you go to your browser and try to go to google.com do you get any error or are you getting connected correctly?
My app is mainly intended for usecases where you are not connected to the internet without giving a user name and password in a captive portal.

[Q] gmail keeps asking for password help!

Please help! A while ago, i was synchronizing my gmail when wp7 asked me to ipdate and reinput my password. But each time i type in the right password, it says that the password is incorrect! Tried deleteting the account on my phone and putting it back again, still the same. On the browser and also on the desktop, i can log on normally using the same password. Please help
That sounds really strange. I've never had any issues with my gmail accounts.
It sounds like a typo, but since you've tried it several times that may not be the case.
Are you sure you didn't mistype the email address instead of the password?
I know that with the software keyboard, I sometimes hit the key next to the one I want to hit. But I'm sure you already tried typing the password slowly and looking at each letter as you type it.
Yes i'm 100% sure i got them all correct. Tried changing and rechanging the password but still nothing. Also, i tried on my wife's iphone, and it worked perfectly. On the wp7, nothing
Is your Server listed as m.google.com?
Also, did you make sure to check "Server requires encrypted (SSL) connection?
Yes and yes, m.google.com and SSL is checked. Even tried turning my phone off but still nothing
Are you actually using a @gmail.com account, or a corporate account through Google?
i'm using a .gmail.com account. it was working before, but now, nada.
Sounds like a bug.
I heard of someone who experienced something similar. They were able to solve it by connecting to a WiFi network and then setting up their gmail account.
I'm not sure why that solved it for them, but maybe it could help you too.
And it just did. I was connected to 3G when it happened. Connected to my home wifi and it finally accepted my password. Again, i connected to 3G just to confirm it and well ut works now. Thanks for all the help guys. Will drop the wp7 guys an email about this
I just ran into the same issue.
I had changed my gmail password via web interface. then the phone asked for the new password but wouldn't accept it.
I ended up deleting the account on the phone, changing the password at gmail (again) to something different, then readded the account to the phone. In that time period though, I logged onto wifi in order to sync faster.
Would have been nice to have seen this thread earlier...
Gmail on Android persistence challenge credentials bug fix
I found this to be a bug with Gmail account log in failures on Andriod when using 2-step verification. It persistently challenges you for credentials although you have successfully logged into your Google account on another machine via a web browser.
This is the fix I found:
Step 1:
Log into your gmail account on another machine using a web browser.
Go to account settings > 2-step verification > authorising sites > application specific password
Step 2:
generate a password called gmail -android but do not click done.
Step 3:
go to device enter your gmail - andriod application specific password and you will get challenged a further 2-3 times enter the same password (you may have to also enter the CAPTCHA (a security image with distorted letters)).
Step 4:
When you are no longer challenged, try to sync with gmail if you do not get a sign-in error on your device then this has worked and be sure to click done in your your google account settings via your browser on the other machine you used.
Hope this helps to those of you who are suffering from this infuriating Google 2-step verification bug.
Hyp3rzz
I had countless issues with my Gmail account on WM6.x - same as you describe. Would not accept my credentials.
The steps described above solved it for me (having to reset using that captcha thing) but it would keep on re-occuring. Not seen it so far in WP7 though. *touch wood*

[WARNING-Update:Solved] Xfinity Mobile (Comcast) exposes password in system log

This post is regarding the Xfinity Mobile app: https://market.android.com/details?id=net.comcast.ottclient
My system log shows <userName>[email protected]</userName> and <password>MYPASSWORD</password> on a line that starts with "D/HTTPManager". I read the log using aLogcat (app available in the market). Open aLogcat, press menu and filter for "password". After I clear my log (using aLogcat) that line reappears even when I haven't used the Xfinity app. I don't use my comcast credentials in any other app.
To try and resolve this I cleared data and cache for the Xfinity app, then cleared the system log in aLogcat, and restarted the phone for good measure. I opened the Xfinity app, logged in without checking "remember me" and unfortunately my username and password immediately reappeared in the system log.
I posted this issue here: http://forums.comcast.net/t5/Mobile-Apps-and-Web/Password-revealed-in-android-system-log/td-p/872295. A Comcast employee responded to say they will investigate this issue and fix it within a few weeks. In the mean time, you may want to uninstall the Xfinity Mobile app and change your Comcast password, or at least do not share your system log with anyone (in bug reports for example) if you have Xfinity Mobile installed.
This may not be the only app that exposes sensitive information in the system log, but this is the only password I have found exposed.
I have a Motorola Droid running stock Android 2.2.
UPDATE - As squiddy20 pointed out, Comcast has updated their app to 2.0.2. They include instructions to clear the app data as part of the upgrade, but that may be unrelated to this issue. In any case, I cleared the app data and installed the update, and my credentials no longer show up in the log. As far as I can tell, they have completely resolved this issue. If the problem persists for anyone else, be sure to post that here and on the Comcast forum.
Wow Comcast.
Thanks for the heads up
I checked this out for myself and the only way I could get it to show up was by logging out and then back in. I then did a reboot, let it sit for well over 5 minutes after it was fully booted, and then tried it and still no entry under "password". I dont get any of the sporadic, random popups you seem to have gotten. Oddly though, I have it set to not login automatically, yet after the reboot, it took me right to my email messages without me actually typing in my login info. That in itself is room for concern, let alone the possibility that login info is contained in the logcat in plain text.
Samsung Moment 2.1 running TiX 1.6 rom.
Interesting I to have the same issue squiddy20. Very concerning not a good thing Comcast
I was not able to see my password
I use an EVO with 2.3 and checked the same on my logs after logging in .. and only saw my username the password was nowhere to be found. I guess it would only happen when you first try to login.

Now that I have unchecked "remember me" my credentials only show up in my log when I log out and back in. Not sporadic any more.
Check your Xfinity Mobile -> Settings -> Log Out setting. If it is set to "Never", then you wouldn't have to log in again after a reboot. If it is set to "On Exit" then you should have to log in again after exiting the app or after a reboot... but that may be buggy.
Thanks for the tip, but I honestly don't access my email through the app very much. To me, less things logged into and running in the background, means more memory for other things and slightly more battery life.
Also slightly less security problems!
Well, they've updated the app and I assume they've fixed the logcat problem (haven't checked for myself yet). They do have a note: "This Update will require you to log in to the application" plus the usual updates, improvements, and fixes.
Edit: just ran 2 checks with aLogcat and can confirm that the username and password info does not show up when searching for keyword "password". On a slight side note, I've noticed that hitting the home button on my Samsung Moment exits the app, but doesn't sign out. While hitting the back button from the main screen exits the app AND signs out. Settings also seem to be staying the same, even after reboots. Mine would reset occasionally, turning notifications on and other things.
I have had some concerns as well. I have lost most of my channels in the TV listings area. It goes from 2-29 and then 75-99 but that is it. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app several times, cleared data in applications, etc. As I reinstall the app, it is going right into my system without asking for a password which I find a bit alarming.
I assume that the program has reverted to a selection that is not the full digital programming which shows up when you first do an initial install. I cannot find a way to get back to that area to reset my configuration and add all my channels back. I have emailed Comcast and those idiots responded that they do not have an app that works with Android yet, only iPads and iPhones. Quite comical.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have tried all of the methods mentioned above and when I log in using username and password, and filter alogcat only my username appears in the log. Also tried brief and long settings in alogcat preferences.
Edit: This is using the 2.0.2 version.
Hi Squiddy ,
Pressing the backbutton will exit the app and pressing the home screen actually puts the app in the background so that at later point of time we can launch the app from the page where we left .
I dont think this is an Issue.
Hi Dawgman25,
There is a settings for the program area where you can change the zipcode of yours and select the proper digital option.
After logging in tap on the settings on the lower right corner.
There will be an option program area under TV Listings.
There you can enter your zipcode and give the correct Headend (Digital) option
I think the forums.comcast.net will respond quicker and properly .
you can also directly send mail to [email protected] to get lightning response !!
I tried this and he responded immediately

[Q] Unable to Unlock (TF700T)

Hi All,
I've been doing a lot of searching and reading on the forums but haven't found an solution to my problem.
I've been tgrying to unlock the boot-loader of my tablet for days. I downloaded and installed v8 of the
ASUS unlock tool.
Everytime I try to use it, I get to the "Google Account Verification" step it says:
"Your password is not valid"
I know I've entered the correct password. I've actually signed out of my google accounts from the tablet
and then signed back in just to make sure I wasn't fat-fingering it over and over.
Here're the details:
ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T
Android Version 4.2.1
Kernel Version 3.1.10-gb1a9af5
Build number: JOP40D.US_epad-10.6.1.14.10.20130801
As far as I know, the tablet is absolutely stock (I bought it on e-bay)
If someone could point me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it.
I want to unlock, the install TWRP via fast-boot on the way to trying a couple of custom roms.
My search-foo is relatively weak so if I've missed an obvious thread, please forgive me.
atTHANKSvance!

You don't have 2-step verification activ on your Google account, do you?
If yes, you need to disable it for this procedure.

Brilliant!
You have almost certainly diagnosed my problem....
It's late here, but I'll turn off 2-factor authentication and try again in the morning.
I'll post again with my results.
That was my problem..
I didn't actually need to deactivate 2-step authentication. Google will generate an application specific password for those programs that can't handle the 2 step process. I generated one for the unlock tool and it unlocked on the first try.
That was it...
Instead of deactivating 2-step auth, I generated a new app specfic password for the unlock tool. I put it in and it worked the first time.
Thanks again!!

Here's another solution: (I couldn't get any of the above solutions to work)
After 20 minutes thrashing around in the jungle of Google settings I discovered that in the Google "Less secure apps" page of the account settings it says "Some apps and devices use less secure sign-in technology, which makes your account more vulnerable. You can turn off access for these apps, which we recommend, or turn on access if you want to use them despite the risks." So I changed the "Access for less secure apps" on that page to "Turn on" and - bingo ! - the Unlock app on my Asus tf700t accepted the Google account password that it had previously been rejecting and went on to unlock the tablet. Then I went back to the "Less secure apps" page of the account settings and changed it back to "Turn off", i.e. I restored it to the more secure setting.
Verily the Asus/Android/Google world moves in mysterious ways.

I have tried this as well and I cannot get my tablet to unlock. I have verified it is registered within ASUS' systems, I have verified I do not have 2 factor authentication and I have less secure access on.
Does anyone have any other ideas how to get passed this Google Password issue?

I've been trying to unlock mine for over 2 years. V7 unlock installed, removed account, ran unlock tool, VIOLA! Success!
Now, what seems to be the best ROM to use is what I have to figure out next...... is there a solid KK or Lollipop ROM?

[Completed] Can't log in to the forum..

First of all.. Evidently the 4.4.4 OTA forced itself to my Note 3, and screwed up location services (I was trying not to install it, but after saying no half a dozen times, I went to check something on Facebook, only to find my phone 73% through with the update process without my permission.. it removed the GPS hotlink or whatever you want to call it, and replaced it with a general "location services" button. So I can't just leave power saving location services on all the time and just switch GPS on and off when I want (like I always used to).. I have to dig into the settings and switch from power saving to high accuracy every time I want to turn GPS on. Or I can turn all location services off, and get constantly nagged by my apps telling me they need location services while I'm sitting at home on WiFi.
..and now when I try to get on XDA forums for help, it won't let me log in.. keeps telling me I have the wrong password (which I know I am entering the correct password, and the captcha for retrieving lost password doesn't work. If I click on the box to enter the captcha, it moves the cursor back to the email box. I can get the cursor in the right place by tabbing through the page, but every time I enter it I'm told it's wrong. Tried both image and audio, and obviously I'm entering the correct captcha, but it still won't let me retrieve my password (which again, I shouldn't even have to because I know what my password is).

LG Stylo Cricket (H63410g) Google FRP lock bypass...stuck, requesting input

Hello,
Long time lurker, first time poster, so forgive me in advance for any rules I've overlooked. I'll start by saying I am the legitimate owner of the phone. I have searched all over for information regarding FRP bypass for this particular phone and version, but have come up with nothing. I believe I found a method that gets me halfway to the goal, but I'm stuck at a particular point. Let me quickly go through what I've done so far;
1) After factory reset, from the main setup screen, go into accessibility.
2) At the bottom, click Switch Access.
3) Enable Switch Access, and then click settings in the lower right.
4)At the bottom, click Assign Keys to Actions
5) At the bottom, assign a key press to overview. I use volume down.
6) Back out to the device setup home screen.
7) Click through until you reach the network selection screen.
8) You will need to connect to a network that requires sign-in through a browser. The xfinity hotspots work the best.
9) Once connected to xfinity, the phone will auto open Chrome.
10) Use a free trial for xfinity hotspot, or log in with your comcast credentials.
11) Search google for "google maps", and find the result for google maps.
12) when you click on the google maps link, it will open a menu asking you to choose either chrome or the maps app.
13) select the maps app, and do a search for a random business that has a phone number.
14) Once the business info comes up, click call.
15) This will open the phone app. From there, go into the settings, and click on sound settings.
16) Voila! This brings you to the settings menu.
Now, my issue. It seems there is no way (or no option at least) to do a soft system restore from within the operating system. Now, I have tried disabling various apps, and stopping various proccesses in order to remove whatever process is responsible for the FRP notice, but to no avail. Ive even rooted the device and uninstalled anything I could think might be the culprit.
What do we do next folks??
Halp!
Thanks.:good:
I had this happen to me earlier and used this method. www(dot)youtube(dot)com/watch?v=b7xlXPDBxmY Just go download the file over at his blog. Put the phone in download mode and pick option #2. His phone reboots automatically in the video. Mine didn't, but I just powered it off and back on. I then had the option to skip past the the email portion.
just unplug ur router exactly when the phone says checking for updates and it'll let you skip the whole Google account thing. but you have to do it at the perfect time. took me 5 or 6 tries but it worked[emoji56]

Bumping to see if there's been another legit solution. I too have an LG G Stylo locked with the FRP. I've tried reflashing stock firmware, I've tried the Tungkick software, I've tried 6th_hokage's sofrware too, still no success.

Thanks but no, doesn't work. The overview and allow from unknown sources features have been patched. Can't use either option despite being able to backdoor into the browser, downloading the app, and even selecting it to install.
Interesting. What version numbers do you have?

Im having this problem as well, any help would be greatly appreciated
easy peasy
Look I nuked my phone I'm typing on a tripped out barcode scanner. I used lg backup to get through on my stylo. After the reset try and connect to a generic WiFi and then do a screen shot and share it via email that will get you on the web and then you should be able to search for and open up the settings app by choosing manage accounts while in the browser. Once your in settings clear all data on every app that says Google. But if you clear setup wizard you should be good. Then you should be able to restart as a new device
Try disabling the Set Up Wizard

what's the trick?
No matter what you do if you can use any method to access the settings app/page from there you can go into the apps section and just disable the setup wizard and you'll get into the phone.
Ive been working on this for hours it feels like, last time i bypassed in ten minutes (different phone). Wont allow me to disable setup wizard or google play services, what options are there? Everything i have tried they have blocked ...
