Galaxy s7 vs note 5 - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Hello every one, I am thinking of buying a phone in the next 7 days and I have narrowed my choices down to galaxy s7 or note 5.
Both are almost similar in price
According to me the adv of note 5 are
1. Bigger screen (is it difficult to carry and handle?)
2. Stylus
3. ? Better battery
Adv of galaxy s7 are
1. Better camera (I am not much of a shooter)
2. Water resistant
3. Micro sd card
4. Free vr for pre orders
5. Will feel "old" after 1 year
So guys those of you who have used these devices please comment on how imp the above mentioned factors are and help me choose one.
Thank you
I am currently using Xperia z1

I have had every note, and am currently on the 5. I am picking up the s7 today. I have just grown tired of the big size. I have tested the cameras and see very little difference except in low light. The expandable memory for me is a non-issue as 64gb on the Note is pleanty. I do like the water resistance and better battery life of the s7. If you need or want the stylus, or need your phone to double as a tablet, it's all Note, otherwise s7 wins on every other front. Btw, I had the Sony. Worst camera ever.

Hey man,thanks for your reply
Are you sure s7's battery is better than note 5??
Could you update me after using the galaxy s7 for a while?
And yes, this camera is s##t,but I dont click pics, so it doesn't bother me
My biggest concern is the dying battery, lasts 3-4 hours with around 1:20 hr sot

Same size battery driving a smaller display with a more efficient processor. S7 SHOULD be better on battery - yesterday I got 17 hours on battery with 4 hours SOT. First charge cycle.
If the fix the Android System drain then battery will be epic.

Have you watched the S7 vs Note 5 antutu speed tests? That alone should sway to the S7

I had the note 5 for 3 months and I've had the S7 for a week. I can honestly say the battery life is just about the same on both devices. I've done the whole android ritual of turning off notifications/low power mode..etc. I'm satisfied w the S7 battery life, though it does get hot once in a while using standard tasks (no gaming).

yes i have seen the vids but i think note 5 performance wil be better after marshmallow update
btw which device do u like more ?

If my note 5 would have been defect free I would have kept it. Pros and cons weighed I'd side w the note 5. Main reason for going w the S7 was a wanted a smaller device (for now) was itching to have marshmallow on a Samsung (w AT&T) and had money to spend (Best Buy gift card).
I still prefer the ratio on the note 5 camera, it gets the ooohh's and ahhh's from friends and family. The S7 camera is great don't get me wrong but it just reminds me of my 6S picture

What do you mean by ratio in camera of note5?
Can you comment on the battery life on those phones and better value for money?

Note 5 takes wider pics, s7 are narrow. The battery life is about the same, get about 30% with a lot of usage by the end of the day. I suppose the S7 is more future proof.. will probably get android 8 the latest.

You don't get more in the picture its just the aspect ratio, in fact the S7 has a wider field of view

Upgrade to Galaxy S7 (from Nexus device)

Hello, everyone.
I have a Nexus 5X. The phone is good, but when I bought I was expecting a better battery life and perfomance (before Nexus 5X, I had a Galaxy S6). Now I wonder if it worth the upgrade: sell my N5X and buy a Galaxy S7 (flat).
Is the Galaxy S7 flat really better then Galaxy S6/Nexus 5X? I mean, battery, perfomance, etc?
Would I have to do several tweaks to get 5h SoT or I can reach that full stock with moderate use (Chrome browsing, Whatsapp and Facebook)?
Whay are the pros and cons of this beautiful phone?
About updates: will Galaxy S7 receive Android O?
Thanks in advance, I appreciate your help.
Best Regards.

Coming from the Nexus 5X here are the Pros and Cons of getting the S7 Flat
First, I would recommend you get the Exynos Variant. Don't waste your time on the Snapdragon Variant as the bootloader is locked, and the Exynos Variant was proven to be more battery friendly on multiple tests ( Source: GSM Arena )
Pros
--> Better Battery Life, 3000mAh
--> Amazing Display ( 2k vs 1080p of Nexus 5X ) not to mention its Amoled so colors really look punchy and blacks are real deep
--> Fluid and fast
--> Camera is one of the best I've used and If I'm not mistaken the best right now in its league
--> Device feels premium and solid when you hold it
--> Monthly Software Updates
Cons
--> Speaker sounds horrible, very flat sound even with Viper4Android and other Audio Mods
--> Without case, device feels slippery as the back is made out of glass
--> Non-removable battery
--> Snapdragon Variant has locked bootloader ( which you can't unlock )
--> Price
TL;DR - It's a really great phone, and the difference coming from the Nexus 5X is really noticeable. I recommend you get the S7 Exynos, its worth every dollar.

Thank you!
About cons you mencioned:
1- Nexus 5X's speaker are not that good as well, but it's not crucial...
2- I always use a case, even on my old iPhone 5S, my old G S6 and now on Nexus 5X
3- My other option would be iPhone 6S, which is also non-removable (like my Nexus 5X )
4- I'll try to find the Exysnos version
So the battery is really noticeable if compared to Nexus 5X and my old Galaxy S6, right?
Screen and perfomance I know, it's fantastic!
Again, I appreciate your time.

Yes, I come from the Z3 Compact which if you do some research has phenomenal battery life ( Around 101h based on GSM Arena's Test ). The S7 has solid battery life, I use it mostly to browse the net and watch anime via MX Player and I get around 30-40% at the end of the day. Your usage patterns might vary but it will comfortably get you through the day.
Please don't get the Snapdragon Version, the Exynos S7 is far better compared to the Snapdragon in terms of efficiency, multitasking and battery life. The Snapdragon Version excels in Single Core Benchmarks and the GPU is slightly more powerful on paper. On real life usage, tests have shown a difference of 1-2 Fps in games which is really not that significant ( GSM Arena Tests )
You might have a hard time looking for a screen protector as the S7 has 2.5D Glass which means the sides are slightly curved, due to this, there aren't any tempered glass that covers the whole display. Although protective films with Self-healing tech such as Armorsuit's offering is case friendly. Most screen covers get pushed by the case therefore causing bubbles, but Armorsuit and IQ Shield are AFAIK case friendly.
Goodluck and I hope you enjoy your new device!

Comparing with Galaxy S7?

Hello, can anybody compare real user experience of Pixel vs S7?
I would like to know if the screen of Pixel is or isn't significantly worse that the screen of S7. I'm not afraid of resolution but S7 has excellent brightness.
I'm going to switch from S7 to Pixel when it will be available in my country but the screen is my biggest concern.
Thanks
I have an Exynos, international S7 Edge:
Screen is better on the S7, but its not saying that the pixel screen is bad. Its great and you wont tell the difference unless you try VR. Then, you'll notice the difference. Outdoors, S7 screen is brighter.
I played with the pixel at Verizon since mine hasn't yet arrived. The superAmoled on S7 is noticeably better in every aspect than the Pixel's AMOLED. The S7 is QHD vs Pixel's HD but the Pixel's screen is very good and you will not be disappointed.
Sent from my SM-G930T using Tapatalk
I'm OK with QHD vs FullHD but I'm used to Galaxy screens (S6, S7) and e.g. they are able to increase brightness on sunlight. I have to wait until I would to compare them personally.
The screen on my S7Edge is much better than my pixel one, I also miss wireless charging. Day to day I find the pixel a little quicker and prefer the smaller form factor on my pixel, I've got a few days before I can send it back to decide if it's a keeper or not.
The main thing for me was the camera, I'm still undecided on that one

I'm with you. My exynos s7 edge is slightly smaller, was cheaper, and has the benefit of better screen, battery, wireless chsrging, Samsung pay as well as pretty quick updates. Hard time deciding here as well.

This is really interesting feedback as I am trying to decide right now between the Pixel and the S7.
The two things I am pretty interested in knowing about are battery life and durability (Ive had an S4 for years, dropped it plenty of times and while there are a few dings around the edges, that phone keeps on rocking).
Anyone else have thoughts after having used both phones?

I love this phone after coming from the S7. Battery life is phenomenal compared to the S7. It is not uncommon for me to have 6 hours of sot and still have 40% left on battery. Something the S7 couldn't touch on a good day.

Is it worth Upgrading from S 7 edge yo S 8 or S 8+

Hi guys!
I am using S 7 edge . Is there any reason for upgrading from S7 edge to S8 or S 8 + except model change?
Sent from my SM-G935F using XDA-Developers Legacy app
bixby, new CPU, infinity display, USB C, ect...
Smoother system, better fingerprint sensor, immersive display, faster processor, better feel in the hands, higher nits, more memory, better bluetooth, little better camera, curved edges, on screen buttons, bixby(maybe), taller display better for split screen, little better battery life, color of back choices, usb c, ect, ect,....... up to you. But I'd say yes imo!
Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
If I had an S7, I'd be waiting to see the Pixel 2. I pulled the trigger on the S8 because i was having storage related issues with the S4.
I didnt want to upgrade. But decided to try the S8 since i have 14 day to return it even if i had to pay the restocking fee. I have a gs7 edge. Im glad i did this is light year ahead of gs7 edge. In smoothness ui. The pjone does not hit up at all. Upgrade. U wont regreat it

I would say that if you are a tech junkie then the S8/S8+ is definitely a looker with quite a few things going for it. If the S7 edge has nothing wrong with it and you are just an average phone user then you could save the extra money. In the end the choice is yours.

I had the 7 edge before s8+. Hands down worth it 1000%. Very smooth, no lag, outstanding overall

I have the plus and I'm BEYOND happy. The software is lag free to the point of stock Android. Hardware is gorgeous. It's fast, fluid, good looking, eye catching, a conversation starter, and has a lot of improvements. First 2 days, battery life is stellar. 5 hours + screen on time with heavy use, high brightness, full resolution, and all my apps and services installed. Even the finger print scanner isn't in a bad place, at least for me. Plus, no doubt your current phone is lagging. So I would say yes, upgrade.
Thanks Guys. Really helped in decision making. I will upgrade to S8

I had S7 and switch to S8 - mixed fillings
*Plus - gorgeous looks - great and huge screen, Better selfie camera, (CPU/GPU advantages i cant see in real life so i'l not mention them)
*on par - battery life, call quality
*minus - i miss home button double click for camera - on S7 i have been able to take out phone, switch camera and take several pictures with one hand (very useful on a trip), with S8 it is a lot more difficult and i cant make it so far ; camera made 2-3 shots Out of focus - something i never encounter on S7???

I was on the fence of upgrading my S7e to s8. My mind changed after i held the s8 because it actually has smaller screen instead of being advertised as bigger. The ram is still 4gb and processor upgrade from 8890 to 8895 is hairline difference at best. I will pass s8 and wait for Note 8 or s8 plus with 128gb / 6ram combination if they ever release it for europe. I liked the smaller footprint of the device but it is no brainer you're getting a smaller but taller screen.
Yes double click for camera is big facility.

Make sure you really take the time with both sizes and compare to your current phone. Some prefer the smaller and some prefer the larger. Myself I love the s8Plus. I came from the 7Edge and was one of the Note 7 double recalls.

I used a S7 Edge for over a year which is a long time with me. I was going to Jump to the Note 7 but well we know about that fiasco. I was wanting to cancel Jump and just wait a year to buy phones to save cash but well once again I caved in and got a S8. I always justified buying expensive phones and taking advantage of the promo's. I haven't paid for Netflix in a few years. This time I messed up and didn't buy during the promo. sigh Hopefully Samsung will give us some cash with Samsung pay or something. As far as the S8 compared to the S7. S8 is faster and more smooth. I'm not sure if I like the narrow design just yet. When it's in my shorts it lays slanted not straight as the S7. I know it's a minor thing but just a little annoying for me. As far as worth upgrading to the S8 I think if you order the phone you might not get a restocking fee but check on that plus I'm pretty sure you get 30 days. One of the reasons I was hesitant getting the S8 is because I don't think the camera is that much better then the S7 if at all. Also the Note 8 will probably be really nice and not as narrow. Not sure when that is projected to come out. Also I'm interested in the iPhone 8 the 10 anniversary design change. I never had a iPhone.
Narrow design, small battery, barely improved camera, higher price, bixby, idiotic fingerprint positioning.
Thats the reasons i wont buy the S8...the competition can do way better this year...
Samsung went extremely conservative this year and the fact that they only advertise it because of the S8 look tells a lot about it...

Congratz! And enjoy this badboy.
If i had S7 edge, i wouldn't switch because you already got the edge design.
I had a S7 and when S8 came out i was like ... WTF !! I wanted that sexy infinity display.
But to me, this is the only reason to buy this beast. The s7 work well, same camera (Only software change), no bixby button ****.
If your S7 edge is not looking new (i mean you scratch it, ...) , close your eyes and buy one. If your s7 edge is very well looking, just keep it and wait for the s9

Overall love

Yes, yes, it's possible to love a phone. Heck, you sleep next to it, don't you? Rate this thread to indicate your love for the Samsung Galaxy S9+, all things considered. A higher rating indicates that the Samsung Galaxy S9+ is an incredible phone that you enjoy tremendously. You love it.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I am liking how snappy and smooth is S9+ is.
I loved the S8+, especially coming from a Note 4. I have the option to upgrade every 12 months and did so for the new camera and relocated fingerprint reader. Still love the S9+ but the 'wow' factor wasn't the same obviously.
Liking it so far besides the fingerprint sensor doesn't work properly on either of the 2 I purchased. Hopefully Samsung will get the bugs worked out soon.
currently liking it but almost identical to my previous s8 minus the new little feature gimmicks i got the purple one even I am a man because I want to be unique.
This is my first Samsung, and I have to say is the best phone I have ever had in my entire life.
For reference, my previous phones were a Mate 9 Pro, a Pixel 2 XL and the U11+.
Possibly one of the best android phones i've ever used design wise. Samsung software is nice but i never like getting pre-installed garbage i can't get rid off. Will however root soon...
This is just the perfect phone for me.
It comes with quite some beautiful design (Coral Blue)
Great screen, great camera for low light and slow mo, great performance (Exynos 9810) and 6GB RAM, great speakers, great biometric options, and the list goes on and on.
On the other hand, battery life is not as good as my previous phone (Galaxy A8 SM-A8000), and I hoped it is lighter and thinner like that phone.
Overall, this is just a special treat for me and I love it by my hearts.
P.S. I am glad I went for the Coral Blue S9+ UK 128GB Exynos variant, and it performs very, very well without breaking a sweat thermal wise (Snapdragon is known to heat up a lot more usually).
Also, since all the Snapdragon Samsung phones I had in the past had their motherboard toast after 2 years of usage or so, all my working Samsung phones are the more reliable Exynos (That A8 broke too with a broken display and unreliable battery, but mobo not toast yet) and I want to keep that trend of Exynos everything on my phones.
Waiting for mine in the mail right now. I'm currently using the note 4. Can't friggen wait, tired of the note 4 sluggishness
Also, I forgot to mention that I ordered my S9+ from clove on Feb 28th. The phones shipped March 6th, but clove did not get the coral Blue variant, so they ended up shipping my package on Mar 16th, only to get delayed by FedEx due to severe weather conditions as well as the exploding parcel in USA, with me finally getting my hands on it on March 22nd, and that is with me heading to the FedEx location and pickup myself. So yeah, due to this series of delays, I was getting too anticipated to get that parcel that I literally couldn't do anything properly for the past 2 weeks.
Anyways, I hope fellow ppl who still haven't received their packages to have better luck than what I have had.
Like the s9+ lookswise and camera.Hate it's battery life and choppy performance and.

Guys do let me know how is the PUBG experience on you Exynos Samsung S9 plus.I am having a very hard time with the device, game has micro shutter and lag over a period of time.
the device doesn't overheat temperature will around 38-40* I am running it on HD+ resolution with balance settings and high frame rates.
Very dissatisfied with Samsung on this part.

Well that's the Mali gpu drivers for you. Btw I am running android 9.0 pie beta (soilders rom on the s9+ section) The exynos 9810 mail GPU drivers has improved a bit. Getting slightly better performance and less throttling with the 9810 with 9.0 pie. So I guess wait a bit.
pros: best camera, look and feel (have the blue one without case), good performance, black themes
cons: battery could be better but is ok, major updates could be faster but can also live with that
fazit, best phone I've ever had

Guys do let me know how is the PUBG experience on you Exynos Samsung S9 plus.I am having a very hard time with the device, game has micro shutter and lag over a period of time.
the device doesn't overheat temperature will around 38-40* I am running it on HD+ resolution with balance settings and high frame rates.
Very dissatisfied with Samsung on this part.

This is totally not my experience. I use the Exynos GS9+ and I have none of the issues you just mentioned while playing PUBG. Yes the phone does overheat but that is normal for any device which is pushing it's limits. Coming to the performance I play on ultra high settings with anti aliasing turned on and I have never as much as felt a stutter. The battery does drain considerably, around 10-12% per game but I think it's okay since PUBG itself is very demanding. For reference my device is set on QHD+ resolution.
I would suggest you to check if some unwanted app is running in the background and actually hogging up resources as that has happened to me plenty of times on my previous phones. I'm more careful of what I install now.
Really like the One UI and the performace it provides since I came from the S7
I've become very unhappy with my Galaxy S9+. Foremost is the fact that I can't root it. (I have one of those US models that you can't root.) It's my phone. I bought it; I own it; it's mine. I should be able to do anything I want with it. I tried to write a script to backup my SD card to a USB stick, but I don't have permissions to run it. Being a professional programmer, that really irks me.
Then there's all the bloatware. I disabled over 200 packages of stuff I don't want and don't need. Sorry, but I'm not going to be part of the Samsung culture - not a fan.
Samsung is acting just like Apple. "This is the way we want to you use your phone, and you don't have a choice." Well, I do have a choice - to dump Samsung. The OnePlus 7 is coming out next week, and I'm 'deep six'ing Samsung.

Just realized the OnePlus slogan is "Never Settle". My sentiment exactly. I'm not going to settle for Samsung's hubris and disdain.

[Discussion] Who's going for the plus variant ?

Also which device you currently own and are you planning to upgrade for the new Samsung's flagship ?
I will be preordering the plus.
Spent the last year suffering through an Alcatel Idol 4S.
I know, self inflicted wound.
Currently S8+. Going to get S9+. Thought about waiting for Note 9, but the updates to the camera and ram seem sufficient for me.
Upgrading from S7 Edge to the S9+
i just ordered s9plus yesterday on clove !
now, using s8.
but i worry about galaxy X...
Have an OP5T and I'm planning to order the S9+.
Just holding off a little bit as I want to see more about it when in use.
Going from S8+ to S9+ the camera and ram and speaker upgrade is all I missed on the S8.
Sold my S8+, using a OnePlus 5 temporarily.
Will be pre-ordering the S9+ as soon as pre-orders are open in Pakistan, which is on the 2nd of March.
Currently S8 and I've pre ordered S9+
Camera main reason, but also screen size as I end up watching a lot of video on my phone.
Ordered an S9+ yesterday. Currently on an S8 - mostly upgrading for the better camera and larger screen (for books, etc.).
Considered holding off for the X, but I'm expecting the price to make the S9+ look cheap!
I have the Note8 and will be getting the S9+.
I'm confused about getting the normal or the plus version.
I had a Pixel 2 XL and now I'm with a U11+; this would be my first Samsung ever, but I'm a little bit worried about the battery life, which in most threads I have read is kind of average.
Size is also weird, feel like the normal version is small and the plus is too large, not used to this new 18.5:9 ratio.
I don't care much about the dual camera, because the normal version gets also most of the good things.
Any advice would be more than welcome.
:fingers-crossed:
Ordering the S9+ for myself. Most likely will order the S9 for the wife (not a power user) so it should be sufficient for her
Proudly S7 Edge owner and now Pre-Ordered the S9+ and waiting for it to be delivered (hard time )

I originally struggled with the same question when the S8 and S8 plus came out. I finally purchased the S8 plus and in the end was glad I did. I have no questions now, I have ordered the S9 plus from Clove yesterday and am eager to get it. The size difference is really not that great between the two phones - and the benefit of 2GB more of ram and the Dual Camera make it all worth while. There is HUGE difference between a single camera and a dual camera. I have the note 8 too and the difference in cameras and options is significant. My advice is to go for the S9 Plus, you won't be dissapointed.
Going for S9+
Currently on S7.

What about the battery?, in most of the threads I see average consumptions.
I'm not a heavy user, actually, any $100 could do the job for me, but I buy flagships because I rely on the phone's camera a lot by not having a DSLR or any other kind of camera outside the phone.
I'm just a little bit worried about the battery because Samsung has fame of not giving the best results. People starts with 5-6 SOT and they end doing half after a couple of months.

Well, I can't comment on the S9plus battery because I don't have it yet - but I can say that with every Samsung phone that has been released, the battery has been better than the phone I had previously. I have the S8 Plus and the Note 8 (the note 8's battery is the same that is going in the S9plus) I can't give you a screen on time because I don't ever look - but I know I am very pleased with how it performs and I have never had an issue. I also expect the S9 plus to do even better than the Note 8 because of the improved processors and chips they are using, which will run much more efficiently. Honestly, I would suggest that you stop worrying - and jump in - the water's just fine.

When I had my S8+, I was regularly getting 7h of SOT for the 6-7 months that I had the first one. Then on my second S8+, same results. Pretty good battery life on the plus models.
