Comparing with Galaxy S7? - Google Pixel Questions & Answers

Hello, can anybody compare real user experience of Pixel vs S7?
I would like to know if the screen of Pixel is or isn't significantly worse that the screen of S7. I'm not afraid of resolution but S7 has excellent brightness.
I'm going to switch from S7 to Pixel when it will be available in my country but the screen is my biggest concern.
Thanks

I have an Exynos, international S7 Edge:
Screen is better on the S7, but its not saying that the pixel screen is bad. Its great and you wont tell the difference unless you try VR. Then, you'll notice the difference. Outdoors, S7 screen is brighter.

I played with the pixel at Verizon since mine hasn't yet arrived. The superAmoled on S7 is noticeably better in every aspect than the Pixel's AMOLED. The S7 is QHD vs Pixel's HD but the Pixel's screen is very good and you will not be disappointed.

I'm OK with QHD vs FullHD but I'm used to Galaxy screens (S6, S7) and e.g. they are able to increase brightness on sunlight. I have to wait until I would to compare them personally.

The screen on my S7Edge is much better than my pixel one, I also miss wireless charging. Day to day I find the pixel a little quicker and prefer the smaller form factor on my pixel, I've got a few days before I can send it back to decide if it's a keeper or not.
The main thing for me was the camera, I'm still undecided on that one

I'm with you. My exynos s7 edge is slightly smaller, was cheaper, and has the benefit of better screen, battery, wireless chsrging, Samsung pay as well as pretty quick updates. Hard time deciding here as well.

This is really interesting feedback as I am trying to decide right now between the Pixel and the S7.
The two things I am pretty interested in knowing about are battery life and durability (Ive had an S4 for years, dropped it plenty of times and while there are a few dings around the edges, that phone keeps on rocking).
Anyone else have thoughts after having used both phones?

I love this phone after coming from the S7. Battery life is phenomenal compared to the S7. It is not uncommon for me to have 6 hours of sot and still have 40% left on battery. Something the S7 couldn't touch on a good day.

I don't have the pixel yet but wish they added wireless charging like the S7.

Anyone coming from the Nexus 5X/6P?

To those interested in the S7, are any of you current owners of the 5X or 6P looking to upgrade? If so, what made you consider the S7?
Nexus 5x checking in.. Only looking to see what this phone's about, not really considering switching. 5x has all my 'needs' but is missing several 'wants'
Pros for Galaxy S7:
- SD card support
- Super AMOLED screen
- potential 5.1 screen (I like smaller phones hence 5x and not 6p)
- upgraded camera?
- Snapdragon 820
- overall build.. personal opinion
Cons:
- Touchwiz
- Severely limited development
- Difficult to root
- Touchwiz
- cost
I gave my 5x to my son. I find it still unnecessarily big for a 5.2"screen. I'm considering the s7 bit the s6 battery and lag was why my s6 only lasted 2 months. I'm also considering the lg g5 or htc m10. Size is a big factor though.

Since the Snapdragon variant will be released, development should be good to go regarding AOSP. Also, the S6 and Note 5 were rooted relatively fast, so that shouldn't be a problem either.
im coming from the 6p and the only reason i want to switch is because of the size, i belive the 5.1 size is the best for one handed use
Most of users will switch because of Wireless charging. A Nexus device without wireless charging feels like a step backwards.
Once I heard the S7 Edge will have a 3600mAh battery, I think that sold me on the S7. The only thing I'm waiting for is to see if there is a true single model that works on all carriers.

I'm very interested in the S7 as well as the G5. I have the 6P and I like it. I would love it if it were smaller. I really loved the S6 but battery life was a problem for me. Plus the snail pace of updates are not the best.
I may even consider going back to the S6 128GB version one Marshmallow rolls out with Verizon. I really think the only significant difference that will matter is battery size from the S6 to S7. Other little things like water repellent /resistant, for me is minor. Snapdragon s820 is good but most phones perform well with old processors.

The rumor says a 3,000 mAh capacity battery for the S7, we hope it could provide significantly stronger battery performance than the Galaxy S6.
Same as everyone else it looks like.
Had > Galaxy S6
Have > Nexus 6p
Want > Considering all variants. Need to see them to play.
I like the 6p. Battery life is awesome. It's very fast. Constant updates.
But... I realised now that the grass wasn't greener on the other side.
I'd rather have awesome screen, awesome camera and an awesome build over speed, updates and better memory management.
No phone has it all for me. I guess I realised quicker than I thought I would that km bored of this phone.
Plus Oddly I always thought I like bigger phones, but when you compare them side by side on Android, the screen isn't really showing that much more information despite how much larger it is. Change the font on 5.1 inch S6 and it pretty much shows the same as the 6p.
Plus when you have the case off the S6 just felt so premium in the hand. The S7 is sure to be the same.
Yes the S6 battery life was a joke it was so awful. But it's quick charge was so much faster than the Nexus 6p is.
The next question is going to be Edge, or 7. I like the idea of the Edge, but the S6 felt so much better in the hand. Will be interesting to see the S7 variants and see what they're like.

Galaxy s7 is cheaper, smaller screen, smaller battery.
S7 Edge is more expensive. Bigger screen, bigger battery.
S7 edge the edge don't have useful features.
Edge Same CPU, same memory, same GPU.
If I have to chose I go for regular galaxy S7.
Had s6 just sold for 6P, but for sure going s7. The 6P camera of OK but slow to focus. My s6 was fast and sharp pictures. Outside display was amazing for s6, nexus I have to pump brightness to see. Samsung got me again but at least it will have marshmallow with the use of bigger battery and deep sleep this thing is going to rock!! Oh and a free VR headset!!!!!
The VR headset looks like a pretty sweet bonus for pre-order. I'm going to wait it out a few months until I see how the TMo ROMs are shaking out. Hopefully the price will also drop a bit by that time. Then it's the standard S7 at the highest capacity offered. Should be a very worthwhile upgrade over my S4.

I agree 100%. I always wanted a Nexus, and it does have great benefits for me like instant updates, lots of dev support, and I can switch between carriers like Verizon and T-Mobile.
There are lots of issues though. The latest version of Android is somewhat buggy, lacks features compared to Samsung, and the camera software is just horrible in comparison. Plus, for a 5.7" phone the 6P is just huge because of the top and bottom bezels.

Yup. People always rave about front facing speakers. But I don't think they're that loud personally, and definitely not worth the size increase to have them.
The camera software isn't as good at all. I have to agree. Whilst it's true the nexus does take good pictures, it's definitely not as good as Samsung.
Plus I always thought my nexus screen was awesome, but I got my work phone (Galaxy S 6) and put it next to it, and the Samsung sharpness and colours were massively noticeable!
I'd rather have the better hardware, faster charging on an older android software version than this for sure.
Lesson learned. Off to S7 or edge I go!

I hate front facing speakers. Never use them. I use headphones if watching videos / listening to music.
So for me they are wasted space, and make the phone too big. That and the crap 810 cpu is why I didn't get the 6P...

nexus 6p brighter whiter (better) screen than Gs7 edge.

i have both phone and been playing with them to see if i keep the gs7 edge. It is an amazing phone but one thing i notice and I'm very picky about it is the screen quality. Mostly the whites. I notice that my nexus 6p gets brighter and whiter than s7 edge both in max brighness. While reviews and people will declare Samsung galaxy to have the best screen without testing, i did some. Something that i have seen in the past is that gs5 & gs6 always had a lower end brighnes a whiter screen than its notes brother. Hands down note 5 still have the best screen right now and i believe the same will be for the galaxy note 6 line.
Not very good pics but someone who has both phone can do the same just to confirm this.
BOTH PHONE MAX BRIGHNESS.
Gs7 left & nexus 6p right
EDIT: if you see both side by side the galaxy s7 edge screen looks better because is using super amoled. is so attach to the screen that icons seen to be pupping out of the screen. not the same in the nexus 6p which is amoled and the screen seems way behind the glass. Also looking very closely at the nexus 6p icons i can see sharpness artifact while the galaxy s7 edge screen seems to be using some kind of filter to make icon look smooth without causing any blur to it. They both look has sharp.
I'm using mine in amoled cinema and it doesn't hold a candle to the 6P I had. Which setting did you have your S7E on when you compared?

stock setting which is adaptive. cinema make color more vibrant (punchier). basic and photo does make the screen look yellowish but i was not using those.
edit: you where right changing my color profile from adaptive to cinema make screen brighter and just has white but it add those punchy colors.
They're picking at anything now lol
:good:
Another thing to take into consideration is the bump in brightness that it may do in direct sunlight that goes beyond the max brightness setting. I'm inside right now at work so can't test to be sure but I remember my S6 would punch up the brightness in direct sunlight beyond what I could manually set it to, I think the S7E does the same. I don't remember the 6P being able to do that although I won't argue that for the price, I was impressed with the quality of the screen on the 6P.

In my thread regarding note4 amoled quality, i wrote to displaymate as well:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/general/note4-amoled-screen-quality-t2906365
imho, displaymate is a not very usable source, as they test the cherrypicked devices from samsung, they are NOT examining devices from the "open market"... there, 8 out of 10 devices at least have minor or major display errors, although most people wont see them because the lack of comparison!
Ohhhh please. If you try to bash on samsung than get your facts straight.
First of all, to your info Nexus 6P has also Super Amoled from Samsung(if you thought otherwise than you should read more). So there should be little to no difference at all.
S7 edge display is one generation newer since Nexus 6P has the same screen with note 4. Wich is a great screen also without a doubt.
But as the biggest producer and user of Amoled samsung does calibrate the screen in the best way. Better than google or anyone.
Per today S7 edge has the best screen used in a phone so far. Lets see what others will use in the future.
Samsung uses autobrightnes to give all the power in the screen thats because its unessecary to have it on full all the time and that would affect the battery.
So when needed there is no phone in the market with brighter screen.
Sorry for my bad english.
PS. I have both Nexus 6P and S7 Edge 935F. What you are saying is not true.

Lol. Nexus owner? I clearly says that i have a gs7 edge i purchase to keep, stated that the devices is amazing but did notice how whiter the screen look. SHOWED PROOF OF BOTH PHONE WHICH EVERYONE COULD SAY WHAT THEY WILL BUT WHERE IS THEIR PROOF SIDE BY SIDE PICS. Pointed out that icons on gs7 look better not grainy like nexus 6p. Noted that note 5 to me still have the best amoled screen around. I guess galaxy owner get offended so quickly, i have been owner of galaxy s3, S4, S5, S6 3DGE, NOTE 3, NOTE 4, NOTE5 and now galaxy s7 edge with a 6p i had after my note 5 broke and wasnt cover by warranty. I'm a Nexus owner but thinking about selling and getting an S7 Edge.
The S7 hardware, screen and camera are definitely better (although both are good)
The only thing holding me back is the decision to go from Stock Android to Touchwiz. Don't know if I can take 2 email apps, multiple music players, etc. I can't stand bloat or the ugly menus in Touchwiz.

I didn't like Touchwiz back when I had an S3, I just used a Nova and have never looked back. Also Nova let's you hide apps you don't want to see which helps if there's multiple apps for the same function.
I use mine is Basic display mode as I want the closest to real life accurate as possible.
i wish there was a way to control the max brightness even when not in direct sunlight

Who thinks the S8 looks better or worse than the G6?

So far all the leak photos make the s8 look quite cheap and plasticky IMHO. I also think the G6 looks a lot like the Note 5.
How does glass looks cheap and plastic?
I like actually like the G6 better, and because it actually has flat screen, I use S7 edge now and it pain the the ass sometimes with my big meat paws, and the S8 looks too tall and skinny. doesn`t look right. lol
after today its not clear which is better
I agree, Samsung is forcing high price Curved only model, millions of people might be stay away when they know S8 available only with curved screen
Nothing wow'd me about the S8 so I'll stick with my S7 Edge.
I am S7 user and I loved flat screen front and curved back, I don't see any technical advantage of having curved screen, also as always UK and maybe Europe version is NOT available with Snapdragon 835, another bad piece of design is position of fingerprint scanner, iris is ok but not a huge advantage, I have doubt that 3000 mAh battery will be not be class leading or better than S7, Bixby is completely gimmicks, Camera review is not out yet but on specs wise it's same apparatus & pixel size and I doubt that Samsung will try to make same old hardware better by optimising and twining software only, No sound DAC, PC attachment is also nothing new as we seen it already, I will wait for full review and see how S8's camera and battery perform, compare with £689 price range Huawei P10 plus, LG G6 or Oneplus 3T 128GB, Dual SIM Midnight black 'limited addition' is also a looker, Best of luck guys
I was on the fence of getting either the G6 or S8. I'm not a big fan of the edge screen. I had the S7 edge and my big hands always touched the screen. With that said, I'm going to order the S8 over the G6. For the simple reason is price and newer specs. If I don't like the curved screen I'll just sell it or return it if Verizon offers the free restocking when our based online.

I prefer the one that doesn't have curved screen.
Currently have the G6 and it is a fantastic phone. Never used a phone with an 835 SOC as have neither of you so I cant say which is Faster. But the G6 is certainly smooth, and that flat screen is Awesome for glass screen protectors. But, IMO the LCD panel (which looks good) is nothing compared to the Oled samsung panel (subjective, yes). It seems im turning the brightness up to 60%+ just to feel comfortable using it, Its too dim otherwise. Previous phones Ive been able to keep the brightness on 30-40% and been happy (inside of course) Having had the 6P, S7 and OnePlus 3T with the amoled panels, this LCD on the G6 just doesnt do it for me. I personally even think the LCD on the iPhone 7+ looks better and Im not an iPhone fan. Also, and maybe this is over critical, I feel like the edges of the G6 display all leak a bit of light, especially the top. For some reason it just drives me crazy (OCD? ) So Im giving the G6 to one of my kids and getting the S8+

Same thing here the G6 might look nice compare to older models but is not doing for me.
I've been to my local VZW store and they are both on display. While I like them both, I feel the S8 is the better of the two. The sleekness of the S8 is amazing. It feels better than my pixel in my hand. The display is awesome. I'm ordering mine tonight from Verizon. There is not a restocking fee when you order on line. So if I don't like it back it will go. I'm pretty confident I'll love it. The only thing that will ruin it is poor battery life.

I went from a S7E to a V20 and the first thing I noticed was the huge downgrade in screen quality. I'm happy to go back to Samsung.
I've only seen the G6 online and in videos, so I can't comment on the hands-on take, just yet anyway. I was honestly a lil concerned when I saw that the S8 was ONLY going to have a curved display, as I'm used to my flat display on my S6. Feeling the S8 firsthand, it honestly doesn't feel bad at all to me. Feels very similar to what holding my S6 feels like. Unlike the older Edge models, the sides aren't pronounced, like they don't feel as thin. For instance, the S6 Edge was too thin and not that comfortable to hold, and while the S7 Edge improved on it, the flat variant felt better.
From what I've seen with the G6, it doesn't look like a bad phone and it probably doesn't feel bad in the hand, but Samsung pushing the curved displays on both their regular and plus variants this time around, seems a bit more innovative and honestly, look way more sleek and futuristic. Flat displays are the standard as we know it since the first smartphones hit the market, so they all start to look the same -- I mean, how much can you really innovate on a flat display?
If your frame of reference for feel and usefulness of curved screens is the S7 Edge you are in for a welcome surprise. I have big hands and was frustrated from day one by the occasional (several times a day) false edge screen touch on the S7 Edge. Luckily (and unluckily) I broke my S7 Screen. When I took it in for replacement, they offered me the Note7 for the same cost as a S7 Edge. So I got the Note 7. Night and day difference in the feel and false touch rejection with the Note7. In the month or two I had a Note7 i think I got accidental edge activation a couple times. On the S7 it was multiple times per day. The phone also feels better in the hand, curved front and back feels so much better than curved front and flat back. My guess is that the S8 will be even better than the Note7 in feel and false touch rejection. And that will be a great thing.
Sold my G6. It's not that great of a device imo. Ready for the S8+. Device of the year until the Note 8 comes out.

The LCD is specifically the reason why I went with the S8. I don't think I can go back after having 2 back to back phones with OLED.

Anyone transition to the Pixel 2 from an s8?

I'm very tempted to grab a Pixel 2 (and sell my s8) with the VZW black friday sale, but I don't know if it is worth it. Before the s8, I had the 6p, and I really miss the pure android experience. Also, the stupid fingerprint reader placement drives me nuts. Was wondering if there was anyone else that has switched over to the pixel from the s8 and what their experiences were? Did you notice the difference in battery life? Camera quality? Day-to-day use?
I like the pixel 2 a lot better than my s8(sold) and the only thing I miss is Sam pay. You won't be sorry for getting the pixel. It's very solid plus 2 year warranty and first dibs on software.
Camera is better and battery is the same if not better on the pixel 2

Were you lucky in getting a phone that works? Did you have to go through any RMA processes for the screen/call issues? I'm a bit worried of the return process - really the only thing holding me back at this point.

I haven't used an S8...but I know what is to have a non-Google android phone.
Honestly from my point of view, the S8 is better in terms of screen size and overall phone width. (This is something I'd liked to have in the Pixel 2). S8 is still a bit tall for my liking.
So you might miss this screen size switching to the Pixel 2.
Now if you had a Google phone before and you miss all that. Then everything else it would be an upgrade and tie to you.
I've personally switched from a 6P and can't be more happy with the Pixel 2. But I always liked phones with less than 70mm of width that are easy to handle with just one hand while walking etc.
Sent from my Pixel 2
I had the S8, couldn't stand the bloat and general lack of responsiveness (my other phone is an iPhone 7).
I sold the S8 and was looking at the OP 5T to replace it but went with the Pixel 2. All I can say is, this phone is the best phone I have used in 2017. The camera is great, the screen is great, I have no issues and everything works.
The screen to body ratio is terrible and it's pretty big for a 5 inch phone, but I can live with all of those.
Every time I pick it up, it's a joy to use and is so fast and responsive.
If something happened to my phone, I would buy another Pixel 2 in a heartbeat. That's how much I love it!
Like above the only thing I miss about the s8 is Samsung Pay. Bluetooth on the samsung seems to work a little better IMO. My car and BT headphones seem fine but other bluetooth gadgets seem a little flakey (golf gizmos etc). I had the P2XL and sent it back. I've enjoyed the size and screen on the P2 more
Don't be fooled by the defects you see in xda. I sure that they are shining brighter because usually ppl don't complain when it's issue free... Every thing is on par with the pixel 2 when it comes to build quality if I compare it to my old s8 and my Moto z2 force that i have.

Great points! I definitely love the s8 screen and it's going to be weird to adjust back to the deep bezels (I think the transition would have been better if I went from the 6p directly to the p2), but like you said, I miss the pure android experience.

Yeah I haven't heard too many p2 complaints vs the 2xl which is a big reason why I decided on the p2. But I was also on the fence because I thought I would notice the difference in screen quality/resolution between the s8 and p2 (1080 vs 1440).

Samsung is more saturated which I don't mind. I'm not a screen junkie. I miss a little bit of screen real estate. I liked the P2XL screen except for the blue. that was awful. I still have my S8+. It will come down to bluetooth in the next week if I return the P2

From my S8+ to my OP6, thoughts so far..

I have the OP6 since 2 days, and I also still have my S8+ here which I'm about to sell.
In terms of speed this is hands down the fastest smartphone I have ever used. I was always happy about my S8+ but after using it again after being 2 days on the OP6 the S8+ literally feels slow and laggy. OxygenOS combined with the SD845 and 8GB of ram is really pushing the speed of android to the moon, it's simply amazing. Multitasking, heavy apps like games etc, you can't drain the power and speed of this phone, it stays so snappy, wow.
Build quality ? First impression in my early days of ownership is very good. Slick and solid design, I don't mind the notch personally, this is going to be the trend of smartphones in 2018 and maybe onwards I guess, until they find a solution for the FF camera. I'm also not too bothered with the back camera's bulging out as I'm using the nylon bumpercase. Let's see how it holds up after a few months of using.
The screen is good for a 1080p Amoled, although I do think the S8/S9 (even on 1080p mode) still are looking sharper. But you need to put them next to each other and really look close for that. It's not a dealbreaker but not gonna lie, I guess those 150'ish higher ppi density on the Samsung displays are noticeable, even on 1080p. Then again Samsung has the best screens in the smartphone game right now.
Wireless charging ? Never used it on my S8+, so I personally don't care, especially with the dash charging on the OP6 being this fast.
The camera is good, not S9+/Google Pixel 2 XL good, but good. I would say similar quality to the S8+ pictures (although the colours are a bit different and this will be subjective whichever you prefer. I personally do like the software of the picture processing of the S8) but the FF camera on the OP6 is better. More detail and better in low light. The cons on the camera right now are mainly software things which I hope they will fix in the next OxygenOS software update. Taking a snap goes slower than on my S8+ for example, and the autofocus problem is present most of the times especially if you try to take a picture up close of something.
The speaker is actually alright I think in terms of volume. However the placement is kind of bad as you can accidentally cover it up with your hand.
Vibrations could have been a bit better too, but it's not as bad as I thought having gone off from the first few reviews.
IP67/68 rating would actually have been nice if they finally added this too, but for me not a reason to not buy this phone. It will handle a casual splash of water or accidental drop in the bath tub if you get it out right after. And even with my S8+ when I was on vacation with my girlfriend last time I still used one of those pockets you can put your phone in to film while being in the pool. Better safe than sorry and works perfectly fine.
For this money, this is indeed the best package you could possibly get if you're looking for something which is 90% a flagship phone for 70% of the price of one.
I sold my 7 months old Galaxy s8 plus for Oneplus 6 and no regrets
Ordered my 8/128 and looking to sell my S8+. Samsung phones are nice, but too locked down for me and too much crap on them. I love the speed and simplicity of the OP6. It's funny cus I'm usually the "bells & whistels" kinda guy. Give me everything...which is why i've had Samsung phones for quite some time. Always good "features" thrown in. But after a while they just become "gimmicky" and not that practical.
I really wanted a simple "minimalistic" phone experience as close to Stock Android as possible (without the hefty price tag of the Pixel 2XL). This is a perfect phone for me. A few gripes here and there, but nothing that can't be addressed in software updates in the future.
Same here, sold my S8+ still under warranty for op6. No regrets. Just to be fair, I would say though S8+ does have better finish and sharper screen. But no match for OP6 when it comes down to the speed and no bloatware. I am satisfied with OP6 purchase
I switched from the S8+ to the OP6 as well and I actually feel the screen on my OP6 looks sharper than the one on my S8+. The white is also more white instead of that greenish hue on the S8+ and it's also a tad brighter. The OP6 is definitely faster and the build quality is just as good. I don't have any issues with the vibration motor as it's kind of low but not annoyingly low just like the speaker. I'll be selling the S8+ soon as well as I'm glad I'm able to unlock the bootloader and root once again. The only thing I hate is they could have found a way to get rid of the bottom chin and maybe put in a larger battery.
I sold my 11 month old S8 to get the OP6. The only thing I miss from the S8 is Samsung Pay and the sharper QHD display.
I sold my 7 month old s8+ for a one plus 6. Much happier!
I sold my S8+ too for the OP6. Software for the camera is my biggest gripe!
Anyone notice the Bluetooth's 100% louder on the OP6?
on 5t strong vibration was unable to understand..if i sit and keep the phone besides i sometimes missed many calls...but Samsung's vibration motor is very good...i thought they would improve in 6 ,did they?
Not really. Vibrations on my S8+ still better than on my OP6.
I have actually been thinking about replacing the S8+ with the OP6, what is the battery life in comparison? is the OP6 any better?
Switched from my Note 8 (Exynos) to the OnePlus 6 256GB variant. I really love my Note 8, but it never felt like it was really built for me. The camera is excellent, the pen was barely used but useful sometimes. The screen is perfect, the speaker normal and overall it should have been a perfect phone... for another person. You know... you hold your phone and know: This feels right? Never thought, it could be the OP6, because I simply was bored and ordered it.
I missed flashing. I missed some flaws to fix by myself. I miss LineageOS so much, I can't even tell. Never had a phone, that lasted on stock as long as my Note 8. Simply, because Samsung locks down everything and annoys every AOSP-dev that much, so development is rather stuck than alive. I also miss kernels and playing around to tweak the phone to my needs.
The OP6 is far from perfect, but will give some peace to my addiction. Also, it really feels good in my hands. Fingerprint is usable again (bad placement on the Note 8), unlocking via my face is blazing fast, the camera isn't that far away from the Note 8 (I know, it sounds crazy, but I don't see that much differences anymore), OxygenOS is blazing fast, vibration is decent and don't feel rugged. Overall I can say, that I never should have bought a Note 8. For me and even if I tried to hate OnePlus for several things in the past... The package I got is more than alright.
@MajorCombover: Don't have my device that long to do a perfect comparison, but compared to my Note 8: Yes, it's like day and night. OP6 wins without any doubts.

For me battery life is pretty comparable (that is: comparing S8+ with Renovate Ice ROM and TGP Kernel, so an optimized setup) with stock OOS (only Magisk added) on the OP6. It seems that the S8+ has slightly better standby drain (~1.2%/h vs ~1.9%/h on the OP6) whereas the OP6 has slightly better (lower) drain during usage of the phone.
I put high hopes in this fine community to come up with great custom kernels, at least those helped a lot on my previous OP devices.
I sold my s8 after using whole 1 year n 12 days.. n yeah i got this beast so happy with op6...

My OP6 has better battery life than my S8+ Exynos (stock samsung Oreo firmware).
With the same usage pattern, same apps etc.
S8+ SOT: 4 to 5h
OP6 SOT: 6 to 7h

Standby drain is good on the OP6. Better than my S8+, but that might be because I used AOD.
Battery life overall is just amazing on the OP6 considering it's "only" 3300mah.
