Is it possible to force my Z5 to update? - Xperia Z5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So marshmallow has started rolling out over the past few days but I still have not got mine yet. I'm an Australian with a Telstra plan and they have not been good at rolling out updates in the past (It took months to get lollipop on my z1). Is there a way I can force it to update?
Not rooted btw

Hello,
You can't force update, but you surely can flash through flashtool and xperifirm.
You won't lose warranty or lose DRM keys.

You can flash it without losing any data or personalization.
Just dont check the wipe options on flashtool.

You run the risk of lots of apps crashing if you don't wipe.
I did just that and the phone was unusable.

My HK phone wasn't updating OTA so I just plugged it into the Sony PC Companion thing and it upgraded to MM automatically, although took longer than anticipated because I think my internet connection was buggered.

I was running fine without reset.
Sure, a completely clean install is much better.
Just did it on my device

Just wondering. I have some friends who are not rooted who said they got update.
Friends on T-Mobile? I believe only AT&T got it.

I'm rooted with TWRP and I received a notification that the update was downloaded and ready to install. I'm going to update it manually using the LG Mobile Support Tool just to make sure I don't brick my phone.

can you let me know if you 1) lose root and 2) lose recovery please?
I just got prompted for the update, but I do not want to download it yet.

In my experience, updating via LG Support Tool wipes everything. I am backing up all my data right now. Hopefully towelroot still works on this version.
EDIT: So I just finished the update via LG Support Tool. My data was left intact, but stuff was broke anyways - probably from using system cleaner app and then not having root after the update. So I am doing a factory reset anyway and will start all over. I expected it to be wiped anyway.

I ended up using the LG Mobile Support Tool to install the update. I wasn't able to install the OTA; it booted into TWRP, then when I rebooted the system, it said I was up to date, even though I was still on 10a. I lost root, but was able to re-root with towelroot. Everything was still there when I booted, although I don't have TWRP recovery. Not sure if I want to do that since I read somewhere that I will lose Knock Code. Make sure you back up your data just in case things don't go smoothly.

See if re-rooting with towelroot will fix anything that's broken before you do a complete wipe.

If I use KDZ to flash the update, will I loose TWRP? Or do you think a flashable zip file will be made in the future?
I just updated my NON ROOTED d801 g2 and now my touch screen does not work at all. No errors during installation.
I ran into this problem before when I tried to update the touchscreen firmware through the menus via
3845#801#
My screen would go unresponsive, but after 10 mins and a couple of reboots, it would work back (my guess is that it reverted to the old touch firmware).
This time though, the touchscreen seems to be permanently disabled. Anyone else running into this issue?

Yes you will lose TWRP, if you're concerned about that, hold out for the flashable zip, which I'm sure is coming in the next few days.

[Q] Help Please!

So I have a VZW S3 on NE1 rooted and running xposed. I am not sure what module it was that I installed but my phone is now stuck with the SystemUI constantly crashing to the point of me being unable to use the phone. Then I, like a moron, Unrooted my phone thinking that would stop the issue. It didn't. I do have usb debugging enabled and my phone connects to the computer. Can I just boot into recovery and use the Xposed-disabler-recovery zip to fix this? will that wreck my phone since VZW is so annoying? Would that wipe my memory? And if that doesn't work what else could I do except pull everything I can off my phone and and reflash the entire thing using Odin?
Thanks a million!

OK, I see then just flash the xposed-disabled-recovery.zip using custom recovery. If you locked with only stock recovery, you may need to do a factory reset,

[Firmware]G925P OF7 Stock Firmware 5.1.1

Decided to help you guys out with a faster download.
DO NOT FLASH THIS IF YOU ARE ON OI1 FIRMWARE OR YOU WILL SOFT BRICK YOUR PHONE
How to Install:
Using odin:
Download and install the drivers
Download the Zip file
Unzip
Download Odin
Leave Auto reboot and F. Reset Time checked
Absolutely do not check repartition
Click AP/PDA
Navigate to the OF7.tar
Click Start
First boot takes a while so be patient!
This is rare but if for some reason you get a bootloop or stuck on the Sprint screen, then you will need to wipe your internal or do a factory reset. Back up any files that you may want to a computer or drive just incase you lose them.

I figured, thanks Sooop!!! I remember on my HTC M8 I actually used an older modem cause it got better reception than the newer one.
It's all good. Running smooth as butter and wicked fast... Kinda just wanted to see what 5.1.1 brings to the table.

Same here. I've never had an issue with tripping knox... It's just this would be the first time I'd have to send my phone in if I jumped to 5.1.1. I guess I could just not root, but that's no fun!

I've sent plenty Samsung devices back and taken them in the store. I usually atleast try to Odin back to stock. I had a buddy take one in with TWRP installed and got by. Samsung is the only one that you may have trouble with. I can confirm that you're ok with Sprint

Fingerprint sensor suddenly stopped working

My fingerprint sensor has suddenly stopped working, I get the attached error message?
Was working fine, and then just stopped.
Ive tried deleting cache, dalvik-cache, force stop, multiple reboots etc and it just doesn't work?
Asked my provider and the6y were about as much use as a chocolate fire guard.
Is this a know hard or software issue?
Any known fixes?

S8+ Oreo Beta Question

Hi all,
So I really want to install the beta, but I'm not in one of the participating countried, but I've found the firmware online and I can install it through Odin. I've done this many times to root previous phones, but I don't want to lose the data on my phone after installing. Is there any option to keep the data while installing the firmware in odin?

You need to save any photos and files on your phone, either on the cloud or your PC. With a major OS update like this, if you don't do a factory reset you will have problems. Battery drain, apps force closing, spontaneous reboots.
If you don't want to do a factory reset, then you're better off not upgrading. It's not worth the misery.
FWIW: I've not seen an Oreo beta that can be flashed via Odin. Are you sure it isn't the one in the General section that you install via ADB sideload?
