So, it seems that there is no Developer Preview for us from Google.
These are some very sad news for those who prefer the stability of Stock Android (directly from Google), rather than the battery life and performance improvements, as well as many many features that Custom ROMs provide.
Personally I believe that this is pretty much a confirmation from Google that they move away from Nexus 5, but I really want to hear your opinions.
So let's vote and discuss!
If Google don't do that..there are the developers
The Nexus 5 will be three years old this year. It will reach end of support soon unless it already has. We might still see security updates for a while though, and we will most likely see some developers porting Android N to the Nexus 5.
Didn't this happen with the Nexus 4 last year? They didn't get the preview builds but they did get the final Marshmallow build? Hopefully it's the same for us and we get one last big update.
It did happen with the Nexus 4, but the year before last year with Lollipop. It didn't get updated to MM though.

When is the official end of the line for Nexus 5? I think Google said 24 months after the device release or 12 months after the device stops being sold through the Google Store or something...?
I hope N5 will die on N, at least.

I really hope so. From my point of view Android N is what Android M should have been on the first place.
It finally gives us official Multi-window support, something that was experimental on M, stock file manager improves in a way that we no longer need an app for that, Doze works whenever the screen is off for a while... and many more!

I ran all M previews & official Marshmallow on my Nexus 5. It's really not all that different over Lollipop. The only thing I miss is to be able to restrict individual permissions per app (baked in). Sure, I do do this using different methods now via xposed. Doze is nice especially when you tweak it.

Pointless thread ?? Isn't this an information hub? Why post your pointless reply.
And everyone else thanks. I haven't seen any info or hint we are getting 6.0 of course we will be getting it but the question is when. True maybe not that much different than lollipop, but where it does differ, is great. Mainly the app permissions.
Sent from my SM-N920P using Tapatalk
Note 5 is supposed to get 6.0 next month. Sprint should release 2 months later
We should see marshmallow summer 2016. They should give everyone the option to beta test not just s6 people that would shut up alot of us waiting suck i rather get a buggy rom and just get updates until its perfect like how Microsoft let people try new stuff before hand like the microsoft preview on pc.
By the time we get it the note 6 will be out.

Not necessarily true. I think we are better off than AT&T and Verizon. Sometimes Sprint gets an update before the other carriers most times not [emoji1].
Rumor is that Samsung will start rolling it out to the note 5 in February, then you have to wait for the carrier to give it a once over, on top of that, it's mostly Samsung fault. They have what 4 currently flagship phones not including the last gen ones. We have the s6, s6 edge, edge +, and the note 5... and that's just the current flagship, not to mention the other phones they've put out last year. Samsung as a company, is one of the biggest, if not THE biggest smartphone oem.

Not sure if you guys read the article, but the Sony Xperia Z3 is open to the preview.
"Unlike Google’s own devices, though, you won’t be able to enroll in the N preview online and then get the update over the air. Instead, you’ll have to download the preview and manually flash your device. After this, future updates will arrive over the air direct from Sony.
With this update, you can now install the Android N Developer Preview on the Z3, Nexus 6, 6X, 6P, Nexus Player, the Pixel C tablet, and the General Mobile 4G (Android One)."
I would love to see Motorola get on board with this, but I am not counting on it. Still waiting for 6.0.1 in the US after all...

I agree with this 100%, the update to 6.0 was quick, but 6.0.1 dropped right around the time that 6.0 went public for MXPE and US users still haven't seen it. There has been an Asian release and a Euro release in very limited fashion. In addition to that OS update, the December and January Security updates were skipped, along with the April update. March Security patches are included in the 6.0.1 update that has been seen in other markets.

Isn't it possible to port it?
So I have a crazy question: if I can do a clean install (with zero issues!) of Ubuntu on my Lenovo Ideapad laptop meant for Win8, why can't someone take the base 6.0.1 code and "port" it to the XT1575? Even if that would leave the phone with some features "broken", let's see what those would be? Or how about at least " porting" the monthly Android security updates so we can flash them ourselves? Yes, updates can break things, but the patched security benefits probably outweigh that risk...

Yeah, my hope was that since moto was dragging feet on the 6.0.1 and the monthly security updates that we would see Nougat earlier than most, but I then wondered why did they release a May security update at all. So that thought sent my hypothesis that they were working on a Nougat release right out the window.

They can't with on nougat until Google releases the source code. Motorola/Lenovo has also confirmed security updates will be quarterly vice monthly. They probably have a limited number of software engineers and developers and 6.0.1 honestly didn't really show that it could bring much in additional features to this phone. With nougat, there are reasons to move forward with the release.
Maybe this will fix the audio stutter with LTE calls on T-Mobile.
I know this might seem stupid but cant we port the nexus 5x factory android 7 rom?
I wouldn't bank on getting Nougat. Let's not forget how quickly Lenovorola dropped the 2014 Moto X in terms of Marshmallow. I know the unlocked variants eventually got it, but it took awhile.
I've this bad feeling in my gut our phone's support is going to be cut off. It's just like during the days of waiting for the Atrix to get 4.0 only for it to get canned.
Hope for the best, but expect the worst.

I wouldn't say we have to get it, but not offering major update support for a flagship type device up to 18 months after release would be a bad move by Lenovo. It would definitely push me away. I can deal with fewer less frequent security updates as well as bypassing minor ones (6.0.1), but a major one that this device can easily handle is expected.
Getting flashbacks to the Atrix 4G's journey to 4.0. What a time to be alive.
This being a new Motorola in ideology, so-to-speak, I'm optimistic, but it doesn't bode super well that they've already directed resources away from security updates. But who knows, maybe they did that to work on bringing 7 up.

Personaly i don`t agree, i`ve had the the 3/ 3T/ 5 and support is terrible. They can`t get the camera software/ processing up to par and and after only 6 months your device is allready obsolete. Would never buy a OP again. Nokia fills the gap between OEM devices and the Pixels by creating a new affordable Nexus line, imo a golden move for all android purists.
I've got the Beta, and the only issue I have is the 'xxx is running in the background' alerts (which are part of Oreo anyway, and annoying rather than a showstopper), and lock-screen display is not showing the number of e-mails and texts unread.

The only issues I have had with the PBeta on the most recent version was with beta versions of a few Google apps. I rolled back to stable versions for now of the Google app and search app and have had no more issues. Battery life has been solid even a bit better than 8.1.

For sure i personally think its perfect. No bugs but my google phone app beta an update ago, would force close. They issued a fix yesterday. Thats the only bugs i have had and i have run the past 3 versions. 8.1 is boring. The new gesture system is great and the battery life is insane
I have some issues with streaming music on the P beta... Like Spotify won't let the system know it's playing music and after 2 songs the music stops because doze kicks in... But other than that and the occasional data/wifi drop/stall it's been pretty damn good
