Is anyone else having issue with how slowly the camera launches? Sometimes I press the button to open the camera and I will have to wait 3/4 seconds before the camera is ready to take a picture. Have I got a setting wrong?
No
Was horribly slow in Lollipop. I've read it's now fixed in Marshmallow and launches much faster
It was fast on lollipop and still fast on marshmallow
it takes almost a second from sleep to camera open on MM by pressing the shutter...(z5p)
On lollipop it took a little bit longer I think (can't remember precisely)

Alright, I've been having this "glitch" on 2 GSIII's. When I hit he power button to lock my phone and what not and then click the physical button to turn it on I always have to hit it multiple times to get the screen up. I've had it on both Liquid Smooth & Codename ROMS and the kernel is the newest version of KT746. Any help or way I can fix this? Its rather annoying..help is greatly appreciated.
Also, my phone is getting really hot quickly, even when all I do is text..

Have you overclocked at all??? I use my phone very very heavily and have NEVER felt any heat or anything...... As far as the screen issue that could also be the kernel or very possible even the ROM itself.... I know for a while mine wouldn't respond to touching it after I woke it up I would have to hit the power button to darken the screen and wake the screen again... but after a few times it solved itself....

Yes, I'm OC'd to 1809. I'm beginning to believe its the kernel (KT747), this problem has followed me from CM10 Night lies, CNA, Paranoid, and so on and so forth.
I just disabled over clocking and it still took me twice to hit the physical button in order for my screen to come on.
I had this problem on mine when i used the CleanKernel. It would take like 5 or 6 times of me pressing the power button to get it to respond. I changed the kernel back to the stock original kernel via a naindroid backup and i have not had the problem since. Im nervous to flash other roms cause of that issue. Im waiting for more stable builds even though i really wanna try Synergy.... lol
Set from my Verizon Stock Rooted (Modded) Galaxy S3 using xda-developers app
It seams to be kernel related, was running kt with slimbean and could not get power button to wake up the device. Changed to lean and it works when it wants to. I also had the same thing happen on cm9 on another device, so it may just be an aosp thing. Be sure that the option is selected in the main menu too, but as of now I think it is what it is.

I was excited to remember this phone during looking at phones since I'm in the market for a new phone since my G4 died. But looking at a thread here it seemed a lot of people were having problems with soft reboots. Does this only affect rooted? or? is it for every verizon note edge? As nice as this phone is that might be a deal breaker for me. How long does a soft reboot take on the note edge? under 5 seconds? 10 seconds? longer? Just wondering in case I ever had an emergency how long I'd have to wait before I could call while it's doing it's soft reboot. And I hope it's not for every verizon note edge. But if it is how many times does it do it in a day for most? Meaning from about 8am-12midnight. Thanks guys.
Just do not use fingerprint lockscreen and no soft reboot at all.
How often occur? Good question, it depends on your habits. For me about 2 times per day. It last 5 sec, with laggy things 10-15 sec...
I am on 915FY btw not V.
On my 915FY it occured several times a day, and took sometimes more than a minute to get it working again. But fortunately I solved the problem with disabeling the stock-lockscreen and use hi locker instead. That app works with fingerprint and no reboots since then. All the other bugs (eg. loosing BT- or wifi-connection every now and then) seem to be related to exact the same lockscreen-bug and never appeared since that change.

Thanks guys, That helps me rest at ease.

Are there any other lock screen apps that work with the fingerprint scanner, i find hi locker temperamental.

I'm sure there are some, just browse through play store. What means "temperamental" in relation with an lockscreen-app?

I can't use Svoice while the screen is off, which is probably true of all lockscreen apps thinking about it.
I am using hi locker but still get the soft reboot in background....

Seems like it's every 20 mins... literally all the time.
Is this issue unique to the Note Edge, or does it happen with other Samsung phones?
What does soft reboot mean?
I'm wondering if this subject heading is the same as the problem I'm having on my notes edge... The phone goes off and tries to reboot even with 56% and at times with 70% battery left...
I'm desperately looking for a solution.

I had this problem. Every time the battery got down to about 60% the phone would cut off, try to reboot unsuccessfully a few times then die. Would not fully boot up until I put the phone on the charger. New battery solved it for me. Had this problem with another phone. Same thing. The battery was bad.

Thanks. I'm on this thread today because of an N915F crashing around the 40% battery full range. Unfortunately after it does that a few times it goes into boot loop that won't fix with cache wipes, and after a while it wouldn't fix with a reset either. It was still on KitKat, so I flashed 6.0.1 from September 2017 (Sammobile), but it crashed as well. Stepped back to July 2017 from Updato which updated to August 2017 through system update, and switched to a charger that will actually increase the charge on the phone while it's being used. Has been running fine while on the charger, but I also suspected a hardware issue since it would soft reboot on the recovery screen. Even though I have the battery at 100% now, I don't dare run it without the charger because I'm tired of going through setup and configuration over and over again. I ordered a battery last night. I hope that solves it for me too.
Use wakelock
select partial wake lock
and setting to start up on boot
its work on me never deepsleep in lock mode
I had same problem... Time for a new phone

Anyone having issues with the screen not turning on? The home button still has the haptic feedback but nothing happens after that. The power button doesn't do anything either. Not sure if this is a defective phone or a s8+ overall issue...
Yes.. mine locks up frequently. Hold volume down and power until it responds
Haven't had this problem as of yet, and I have over 130 apps installed onto my phone. Transferred from Google first and Smart Switch after that. Haven't had a single problem.
seem the people in this link are having the same issues: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8+/help/phone-freezing-rebooting-unlocking-t3593075
hopefully its just a minor software glitch that can be fixed

I'm also getting this issue on my S8. Wondering if it's related to the always on lockscreen
Is this a serious issue?

Take it back for warranty
Just had this happen for the first time in the two weeks I've owned the S8+. Restart resolved it for now.
Had my phone since a day or 2 before launch and have not had this problem.
try to reboot a few times and also clear out the cache.
I remember the s7e had this problem and about 1 out of 20ish time the phone wouldnt wake up on first try. But they sent out an update to fix it.

I came here looking for answers, since I was experiencing the same problem (although no haptic feedback). This solution solved the problem. Got me into recovery mode, where I was able to turn off the phone and reboot.
Some of the answers suggested restarting. I don't think they understood the problem. The OP stated the power button was not working, as was my case. So 'just restarting' was not a solution.
I'm having the same issue but it started a couple weeks ago after I installed a firmware updated. It has happened 3 times since then, and never happened before that since I got the phone (on launch date a few months ago).
My Note8 is stuck in safe mode because it got water damaged and therefor the volume down button doesn't work anymore, I have tried pretty much anything that is mainstream help like youtube and google searching. I will pretty much be stuck with a uselss phone for 2 weeks if theres nothing I can do as I'm currently on vacation.

Leave the phone off and pour some 91% isopropyl alcohol in the button and leave it infront of a fan for at least an hour and a half to 2.

If that doesnt work, then the buttons internal mechanisms have been shot and theres no hope on that. I had to replace a whole board because I didnt have the gear to replace just the button, but they are unfixable themselves. And because the note 8 is sealed, youll have to send it in
Hi All,
There's this weird thing happening with my Note.
Initially I had just bought a thicker phone case and noticed that I wasn't able to swipe down for my notification menu, I'd have to kinda hold my finger right up beside the front camera hole until I saw the shade come down then I could pull. To fix this I turned on "swipe down" for the notification menu. That was fine with me for a few days, until about 2 days ago when the phone would start to just freeze up when using it and I had to lock the screen and then unlock or reboot the phone for it to work again.
I got really frustrated and last night wiped the device clean and re-installed the OS without pulling back the apps I already had on it, and the problem was still there.
I had the factory screen protector on it, I though maybe that could compromised so I pulled it off this morning and it still does it.
I can use the phone fine with the s-pen, so I turned on dev options and went in and turned on the setting to show where I touch on the screen. Because I wanted to see what was up. Once I switched it on, I noticed that from time to time there would be a whole trail of presses happening at the top bar of the phone and it would always kinda gather up at the top right side of the camera punch hole. Once that shows up, the notification bar pulls down by itself, sometimes all the way to the bottom of the screen or half way. But the whole screen stops responding, pulling the s-pen and pushing it back up works. I can use it with the pen but not my fingers and it is very frustrating.
Has this happened to anyone? Is this a in-home fix? Or Do I need a replacement?
Hi its happening for me as well. with the latest pie update not android 10 beta

I don't quite remember my build number, but it was running Android 9. Unfortunately we don't really have a Samsung service center here in Jamaica (well we do have a samsung place but they'll tell you if you bought it elsewhere take it there) it's my company phone so I just sent it back to our supplier to have it repaired. They said roughly 2 weeks to get it back. We bought 2 at the same time, the other doesn't charge properly with the stock charger the person has to use a S8 charger to get quick charge (weird i know) In any event, the plan is that when I get it back I'll just put in a request for the Note 10+ and call it a day.
