I have the AT&T Fuze with the stock ROM. I purchased it the first day it came out. I think this was 11/11/2008. I have the PDA Personal plan for unlimited data. I have things set up so that my contacts and email synch with our Exchange server. I can remote desktop from my Fuze using the data network to any machine that I can remote to from my computer, so from that, I am thinking VPN must be configured correctly. On one of these machines that I connect to, I have IIS running and put a very simple web page on it (no script, nothing IE specific). From my work computer, it loads fine. I can remote desktop from my Fuze to any machine on the network and launch IE and load it. But, I can't load it directly from my Fuze in either Opera or IE. It does initiate the VPN connection. But, then I get the error HTTP gateway timed out. I'm really not interested in viewing the page that I created. We use Perforce, which is source control system. It has a jobs portion, which we use to track bugs. There is a web interface to the jobs, which is on the intranet, not internet. I don't have rights to remote to the Perforce server, and that is why I initially tried putting a simple page on a machine that i am an admin on. I want to be able to click on a link in my email and have it load the bug in Opera. If I am home and turn on WiFi, and disable the data network, this works fine. This bypasses AT&T's machines, which makes me think there is something that AT&T is blocking. And if they are, then maybe it is the AT&T bloat this is telling them what it is. Our IT guy has verified that I am successfully VPNing in. He is seing the mycingular.net in the firewall.
My boss has the same phone, but purchased more recently, and his is working fine for this. He has flashed the new AT&T test ROM, and done the thing that keeps the AT&T bloat from getting installed.
The fact that remote desktop works, but browsing a webpage on the same machine does not, makes me think there is more to this than just network settings.
If anyone has the anwer to this, please share. If I find the answer, I will post it is well. I have extensively searched the forum for the answer to this, and have not found anything that worked. If I have missed something, I appologize.
Sort of works now, still have an issue
After going to the proxy tab, and checking that This network connects to the Internet and checking the check box that this network uses a porcy server to connect to the internet. Then specify the server. Then go to Advanced and change the HTTP port to 8080 instead of just 80. I also put the user id, password and Domain in on the proxy for HTTP.
But I get prompted for a user id and password from the proxy erveer. I have entered it and clicked the checkbox to save it. It does not display the same info that I entered the next time and it does not display what was entered on the HTTP proxy page. It is a drop down, and I can select the correct one. It's just annoying to need to. I'd like to clear this cache.
Also, to initially get it working I had to disable HSDPA and HSUPA, restart. Then reenable it. I have the registry on my Fuze which give me the menu option on the Advanced network tab to do this.
Figured out how to clear the cache issue - still prompts
The cache was a setting in Opera for passwords.
It still asks for the password. At least it is prefilled with the correct info, since I now only have the one entry, so it is just 1 click, but I should not need to do this step.
Any one know what I need to do to fix this.
If I try to load it in IE, it just tries but never succeeds and never asks for a password, just says Opening.
Connections
Why should I need to set this to connect to the Internet, and use the ISA server? I would think if it needs to connect to the internet, it should be able to just use the Media Net
My Media Net Settings are
Modem -
Name - Modem
Media Net - wap.cingular
Advanced shows the modem in the drop down list as Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G)
The drop down is disabled
Next
Access Point Nam - wap.cingular
Next
User name - [email protected]
don't know what the password is. I've never changed it.
Domain is blank
Next
TPC/IP
Use server - assigned IP address is selected
Use software compression and use IP header compression are checked.
Use slip is not checked and the checkbox is disabled
Servers
Use Servr Assigned addresses is selected
So DN,Alt DNS, WINS, and ALT WINS are disabled.
Proxy Settings
This network connects to the internet
This networks uses a proxy server to connect to the internet is not checked.
More info and additional question
Navigating to some intranet sites does not prompt me for the isa server.
such as http://machine/virtdir/Default.aspx
seems to work without being prompted
but
http://perforcemachine:8080/@md=d&cd=//&[email protected]//?ac=107&mx=25
prompts me for the password.
Also, in order to get either of these links to work, I need to have in my exceptions:
*.companyname.com/*
Where companyname is the actual companyname.
This is annoying because it makes it connect to the VPN when synching with the exchange server. Before I want on the quest to get these links to intranet sites to work, I synched with the exchange server without connecting to the VPN.
I've tried putting in isa.companyname.com in the exceptions, but that doesn't work.
Is there a way to do *.companyname.com/* except mail.companyname.com?
I suspect all of this is in the registry somewhere.
Suddenly, I cannot to access functions that require connection to a network.
For example, Bing will not update categories or collections.
Windows update will not connect to the network.
It suggested I check my time and date? ...which are correct.
I can access internet, send and receive email and sms, check and update weather.
Just many things that require network connections do not work.
I'm not sure when this started. I don't remember changing any network settings.
I use T-Mobile in USA
Any ideas what i am missing?

Are you using a proxy?
Are you on the t-zones package? Maybe they are now blocking https (or SSL)?
DJG,
Good questions. When I first got my TP and put sim in, it did automatic setup to T-Mobile settings. I am on unlimited data plan. When checking settings recently, I noticed the APN was set to the WAP.voicestream.com, instead of internet2.voicestream.com. I changed that. I also noticed that This network uses a proxy server was checked, with no proxy name in the box. I tried checking then unchecking this and using it. No difference. Then I tried checking it and adding getmorespeed.voicestream.com. It seems like web browsing is a bit faster (maybe), but this didn't fix the other network access problems.
Could this be a T-Mobile problem, or a problem with my account at T-Mobile?
Do they need to reset anything?
I have quite a few questions some hidden settings I found while using ANYcut app.
My phone is the Epic 4G and on Gingerbread leak EH17 if that matters.
1) MSL code. I did some google searches and found that is an algorithm to determine the ESP and other things. What is the algorithm? If a phone had a bad ESP could you change the MSL to make Sprint think there is a clean ESP?
2) Cell broadcast SMS. What is this? And what is it for? some of the settings are Emergency broadcast, administrative, maintenance, local weather, area traffic reports
general news:
local
regional
national
international
And those same options for other types of news also
3) Data Create. I think this one is self explanatory. But is this for the maximum number of each I can store on the phone before it deletes them. So if i set the maximum number of texts in my inbox to 500, that is the maximum I can store?
4) Dial up networking. I thought this was going to be the 3G but I was wrong. What is it? I turn it on and click on the connection settings but nothing happens why?
5) Dock settings. Its obvious. But I herd that you can connect your phone to the a computer via USB and have it act as a dock and play songs or videos through the speakers on your computer. Is this true?
6) DUN. It has a picture of a computer with 2 green arrows. And 2 progress like bars, labeled, RX and TX. Any ideas? I was thinking it might have to do with USB activity.
7) EVDO settings??? I am on the Sprint network. Why would they not opt this options out of there SDKs? Isnt EVDO T-Mobile network? But I am on a leaked build so maybe they haven't removed it yet?
8) Preconfig? I really not sure what this is. It says sales code and then an input field. And at the bottom a button that says install and one for cancel. What would this be for?
9) License settings. most of the options are obvious but there is one for expiry reminder. whats that? reminds you when your DRM content is going to expire?
10) MMS Provision Settings. some settings are transaction logs, optional field attendance, UA string, UAP url, and test modes. Anyone know what this is for?
11) Now one that is just called advanced. Some options are home orig. vocoder. homepage vocoder, roam orig. vocoder. whats this for?
12) USB Logging(DM) One section is Function, with the options of, enable and disable. And other section called Type. the options are CP only, AP only, CP+AP. No idea about this one
13) WiMAX CT. there is a button at the top that says open device. then options of max num of used FA, FA Index, BW, FA index. Are these settings for WiMAX networking?
14) WiMAX Mode Change. The options are, SDIO, WTM, DM, USB, Auth modes. What are these different modes and what do they do?
15) WiMAX LineTest. Optioins are, write eeprom, power on, power off, write mac with and input field, and read mac. any ideas??
16) Work mode. it says Work Mode :2 and then a button that says set work mode. and i can set it to 1, 2 or 3. what are these different modes for?
Bump - Anybody want to jump in and help the op?
Wow, with all the brilliant minds on here no takers? Or is the question too big for anyone to take a stab at?
First off, as someone who somehow burnt out my 4G chip, I would suggest that anyone reading this be very careful, search here and google before fiddling with settings. lol
Since I am doing research to see if I can get my Wimax to work better I will answer a couple of questions a day, however anyone feel free to jump in.
1) MSL code. I did some google searches and found that is an algorithm to determine the ESP and other things. What is the algorithm? If a phone had a bad ESP could you change the MSL to make Sprint think there is a clean ESP?
The MSL code or (Master Subsidy Lock) is how a phone carrier keeps the phone from going to another network, however some phones including the E4GT can be found through using Android Debug Bridge (adb) a command line tool that lets you communicate with an emulator instance or connected Android-powered device - or even easier just go to the market and download, for free, Get My MSL which will display your Master Subsidy Lock code.
2) Cell broadcast SMS. What is this? And what is it for? some of the settings are Emergency broadcast, administrative, maintenance, local weather, area traffic reports general news:localregionalnationalinternationalAnd those same options for other types of news also
According to Wikipedia:
Quote:
Cell Broadcast is not as affected by traffic load; therefore, it may be usable during a disaster when load spikes tend to crash networks, as the 7 July 2005 London bombings showed. Another example was during the Tsunami catastrophe in Asia. Dialog GSM, an operator in Sri Lanka was able to provide ongoing emergency information to its subscribers, to warn of incoming waves, to give news updates, to direct people to supply and distribution centres, and even to arrange donation collections using Celltick's Cell Broadcast Center, based on Cell Broadcast Technology.
All for today. Peace
Hi,
exist some HOMEBREW app which can let me change the IP address ?
Somebody told me that it exist.
Thanks.
Well, you can easily specify your own IP address for WiFi networks. That's built into the phone.
For the cellular network... I'm not aware of a way, though it probably does exist. I'm not sure anybody has coded it as a WP7 app, though.
Why do you need to do this? Your IP address quite probably changes every time you reboot your phone; why do you need it to be a constant value?

For me this threat is also interested. And why would be practice to be able to put static IP address is simple, what to do when you want to connect in WIFI environment where is no DHCP.
Or let say ISP, give you STB with WLAN on which is not enabled DHCP.
Cheers.
As I said, specifying your own IP address is easy on WiFi (specifically for networks without DHCP). Open the WiFi settings page, press-and-hold on a network, and select Edit. If you connect to a network that doesn't have DHCP, it should prompt you for the settings when you first connect.

My friend, this what you are wrote is written in user manual which I am get with my optimus 7. There is also written that is procedure for connecting on hidden network is press-and-hold on any wlan net and change the name according with hidden net and I could not reach hidden net until I am receive latest fw(few days ago) and I have optimus 7 almost nine month.
In any case, what you are wrote not applies for optimus 7, maybe for some other phone apply, but not for optimus 7, at least with OPN Firmware.
Cheers.
Ah... I don't have an LG phone, so if there's some weird quirk to their WiFi drivers, I can't help you with that. Sorry. :-(
JosipoGo, have you connected your phone to Zune and done updates that way? Go to Settings=> about phone and tell us what version of OS you have.
I am thinking you may be running NoDo on your phone, as anything with Mango or above should have the ability to change IP address. Yes, your shipping firmware (if it is NoDo version) may not have this feature, and it wouldn't be on your phones manual if that is the case.
If you have never done system updates, you should be able to add this feature by preforming the Zune update (if an update is available for your phone).
Hi all,
sometimes when my Android device (OnePlus 5, Android version 10) is connected to my mobile router, it shows "limited connection" in my wifi settings.
The connection still appears to work fine, however I wonder what exactly (technically) would trigger this message?
Is it, Android tries to access some host from time to time and if not reachable it turns this message on?
Or does it probably interpret some information contained in the Wifi payload itself?
Maybe one of the Android devs here can answer this for me. Or can point me to the code which controls this message, I am happy to study it myself then.
Thanks a lot and all already a Happy New year 2022.

Hi Andi,
the phone uses a captive portal detection to see if internet is reachable from the current connection or it's not reachable or if it's blocked by a firewall, such as in a hotel's wifi.
To do so, it connects to
http://connectivitycheck.gstatic.com/generate_204
and if it gets a 204 response, the connection is good and no message is displayed. In other cases it will open the wifi login portal (if any) or it will just display a limited connection note, as on your phone.
If you see the message despite the connection can reach internet, it means that there might be something (a firewall for example) blocking the connections to connectivitycheck.gstatic.com. Some applications, as Aurora Store, also use gstatic.com to check the connection, and they won't work if it's not reachable, even though the rest of the web can be browsed.
It is possible to change the address used for connectivity check by running these commands in adb shell:
settings put global captive_portal_http_url "http://<YOUR-URL>
settings put global captive_portal_https_url "https://<YOUR-URL>
You can use any url you want, public or privately hosted, the only important thing is that it has to return a 204 response code.
Happy 2022 to you too!

Thanks, this is a good pointer to further analyze this the next time it happens.
Many thanks for the detailed answer, really appreciated.
Have a great 2022
