Hey guys u was wondering about getting a MHL 2.0 adapter. I mistakenly ordered one from amazon that doesn't work(apparently Samsung uses a different pin arrangement?)
Will any GS3 mhl adapter work but still need an auxiliary charging port? Or is there a specific MHL 2 adapter that I will need?

I am curious as well, ran across the same issue.
maybe this will help.

The Galaxy S3 and Note 2 MHL adapter works. It will not charge your phone while it works, but it works. To charge your phone at the same time, you have to attach the charger to the MHL adapter.
The MHL adapter for the S2 will not work with the S3 or S4 unless you get the 5 pin to 11 pin connector.
The S4 MHL adapter (which is twice the price of the S3 one) will charge your phone when connected to the TV without an additional adapter. It also has a higher refresh rate (60) vs the S3's MHL adapter (24).
The S4 MHL adapter is also backwards compatible, but still needs a charger attached to it to charge your phone at the same time.
It all depends on your needs and your willingness to pay.

Funny, I actually have. I work in a computer repair/data recovery shop and we have a phone in with a broken screen/lcd. Long story short is that the device did not work with the phone we got it for, nor my phone (Galaxy S5), and I know my MHL works on my phone but we needed KB/Mouse support as well.
It may have been a bunk device and we haven't requested a replacement yet, so If you try it out let me know if yours works, and when we get our replacement i'll let you know.
actually the seller replied to me and says that this cannot do hdmi and otg at the same time but apparently this dock does : http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=ite...obalID=EBAY-US&ssPageName=ADME:X:ACME:US:1123
but this dock is not compatible with galaxy s5 ... i wonder why

Unfortunately I don't think so, I used this:
http://www.ebay.de/itm/Lindy-73391-...6?pt=DE_Computer_Sonstige&hash=item462bc81bb0
with a s4, and it worked prperly, but when connected to s5 it doesn't even turns on. I think it is because s5 doesn't have a docking mode, in fact if you go in Settings-->accessories, there is only an option for sound on hdmi, while in s4 there were more (and one was for the docking mode)
I couldn't find anything that worked reliably and consistently. So I use the MHL for HDMI output and use a Bluetooth Keyboard and mouse...

This is a good solution, but I'm wondering why, since 11 pin connectors usually can handle hdmi and usb otg on the same time, why old dock stations for 11 pin device don't work?
using micro 3.0 for MHL and OTG
i have a SM-G900P and if i make a OTG and MLH cable through usb 3.0 do you think i could charge and use HDMI and 2 usb for keyboard and mouse. My goal is to make my phone like a mini computer on the go for my roms and movies
Possibly use the USB 3.0 Micro-b connection?
All my googling on this matter with the S5 seems to lead to one inevitable conclusion, the S5 won't allow for simultaneous MHL and OTG use, because the S5 uses the 5pin connector and not the 11pin connector (as the S4 seemed to). What I don't understand is, isn't the S5 using USB 3.0 instead of the USB 2.0 as on the S4? How could the S5 allow for faster data transfer rates and yet not be able to transfer more types of data at once?
Isn't there a way to utilize the entire USB 3.0 micro-b format (which apparently has 10 pins, 5 for backwards compatibility with USB 2.0 (except 5pin, and not 11pin), and 5 extra for USB 3.0 speeds) to use MHL and OTG and charging simultaneously?

I'm having an issue with MHL adapter on my S5, When I connect my MHL adapter to my S5, the audio on my TV seems delayed, but when I tried it on my S3, the audio is perfectly fine. Is this something to do with S5 having 5 pin only wherein S3 having 11pin?
I saw a 5 pin to 11 pin converter on Amazon, will this solve this issue? And possibly the issue of not being able to use MHL/HDMI and USB at the same time?
buy chrome cast you can screen mirror or use almost any app directly to the tv when it comes to videos and such theres a little allshare
button at the top of like the video player, you tube etc.
also a smart tv does the same thing only better (all the above scenarios will only work with a connected network)
what is wrong with the image quality?
Chromecast works for me at home or anywhere it has standard wifi, but is too painful in most hotels that use a web user login. Without net access it was almost useless last time I tried. I could pair with it, but it wouldn't stream local files from my device. Most places I've stayed in the last few years have an active HDMI port on their tv, so the MHL HDMI and OTG with USB wireless mouse on an S3 worked for me, even though I couldn't charge at the same time. Haven't been able to make that work so far with anything I've tried on the S5.
Still no luck with S5 docking (MHL+OTG)
Hello!
I've been using this adapter for a while with a Samsung Galaxy S4:
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/MHL-...or-Samsung-Galaxy-S3-S4-Note/32461052976.html
Charging, HDMI connection and USB keyboard + mouse works very nice.
Unfortunately no luck with S5. Not even charging works. I read S5 doesn't use 11-pin USB (because of the USB 3.0 plug, etc...). If that's true, then not even installing a custom ROM would make the docking work.
According to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=57336973&postcount=4, "the G800F is capable of USB OTG. It simply is not enabled in the stock firmware." I know this is about a S5 Mini, but wouldn't it be the same for the S5?
Hi guys i purchased a hdmi to mhl adapter cable for my S4 i9505 (i have attached image, intented for S4) which is rooted running on stock rom 4.2.2 JB.
It is not working with my s4, i have noticed that the mhl port does not insert fully into my s4, and goes in about 3/4, is this normal?
I have tried restarting phone and tv, connected to power source correctly etc. Are there any other considerations?
On a side note, i tried this cable on my Note 10.1 2014 tablet and it inserts fully in, i get the "hdmi connected" message and it works flawlessly. However its not working on my S4.
If anyone has any suggestions or solutions, please let me know. Thanks.

Maybe needs power adapter connected to the phone. I know the Genuine Hdtv Hdmi adapter works with the S4 without requiring power connected. Also Its Mhl 2.0, not sure what ur cable is ? 2.0 or 1.0?
It is connected to power source, the issue is its not inserting fully into my s4. I tried it on a mates S3lte today and it worked and went in fully and worked.
What could be the issue? Any suggestions?
P.s. im not sure if its mhl 1.0 or 2.0 but the cable was advertised to work with s4.

When I got my Genuine Samsung MHL adapter, I couldn't get it to work at first either. Same problem, the connector looked much longer than regular micro-USB, and I found it strange that it stuck out so much. In the end, I figured that there was a reason that the MHL connector is longer, and I pushed it in slightly harder, and it finally snapped in properly, and my S4 told me that the adapter was detected. It does take more effort than a regular micro-usb cable to connect properly, so try using just slightly more pressure than normal, until it pops in all the way, or at least until the device is detected. If veins are popping out of your forehead, then you're pushing way too hard, and something else is wrong.

I tried to put alot of pressure but it did not go in. Werid thing is, i tried the mhl adapter cable with another friends S4 and even on that, it didnt go in and gave the same issue.
Now im wondering if Samsung possibily made some early batches of the S4 that take the 5pin connector? And that being the reason why it does not insert properly into two handsets i have tried on. Any ideas or suggestions people? Thanks

Hello All,
I'm a new owner of a Galaxy S6 Edge, coming from a S4.
I had a Samsung multimedia dock for my S4, that had 3 USB ports, a HDMI Out port and a 3.5mm audio Out port. I purchased a wireless keyboard / track pad and plugged it into one of the USB ports on the dock to make typing texts & navigating the phone easier while at my desk.
Unfortunately, the male micro-USB plug on the Samsung multimedia dock does not fit the micro-USB port on my S6, rendering my wireless USB keyboard useless.
I've looked all over the internet and can't seem to find a similar docking station for the S6. Does anyone know of a docking station that has USB ports that will work with my USB wireless dongle & keyboard?
Much appreciated!
Hi,
Thanks for your report. It seems strange to me that the S6 micro USB port is different, should be the same old 11 pin that the Samsung used. Stupid question, but did you try inserting it the other way around, with the phone back facing you?
For your exact problem, with the keyboard, I assume the old USB On The Go adapter will work on S6, same as it does on S4, S3, Note2, etc. It's this one: http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/ET-R205UBEGSTA .
There's also a HDMI adapter, http://www.samsung.com/de/consumer/mobile-devices/accessories/connectivity/EE-HN910FWEGWW. Maybe those 2 can be combined, instead of using the dock.

Thanks for the reply!
Way ahead of ya on making sure the micro-USB plug on the docking station is facing the right direction. I tried docking it backwards and the plug n' port absolutely do not fit that way. It's facing the right direction, just that the port on the S6 is not able to accept the plug on the docking station....despite both being Micro-USB. I did notice, however, that the plug on the docking station had two small grooves indented in it, that looked different than any other standard micro-USB cable plug. It could be that those indentions made the device proprietary to the Samsung range of phones that released during the S3 / S4 years (including the Note 2 & 3). If you look at the compatibility of that docking station on Samsung's website, you'll notice that only the S3, S4, Note 2 & Note 3 come up.
I suppose the USB dongle you linked could work, but reading the device laying down flat, while trying to type on the keyboard might be problematic. You'd think that someone would make a universal micro-USB docking station with USB ports...but I haven't been able to find it.
I'm pretty sure the S6 no longer supports MHL which probably explains why the dock doesn't work either.
You can still go USB OTG, which should let you use your keyboard and trackpad mouse devices.

Interesting.....so are you saying that the micro-USB male plug on the Samsung docking station also had MHL connectivity integrated in it, which is why it's form factor is slightly different than a standard micro-USB plug?
The only times I've ever seen a MHL port on mobile devices was as a separate, similar looking, but different port than the micro-USB port.
I supposed all the wireless mirroring tech out now makes including hardware mirroring functionality not needed.

That's correct, it has to since it offers an HDMI out on the dock.
http://www.thegadgetqueen.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/5-pin-vs-11-pin.jpg
You're also probably right in your assumption that MHL isn't really needed anymore due to the widespread wireless screen mirroring technologies.
I can't find a working MHL adapter for my T-Mobile Note 4. The problem: the 11-pin plug does not snap into the phone like the 5-pin plug does, so it does not stay in the phone. Even if I hold it in, the screen is not mirrored. I noticed that the 11-pin plugs are longer, and the two prongs that allow the plug to be snapped in are too far back.

These are the two that I tried which didn't work:
BelindaSupports UHD 4K MHL CABLE MHL 3.0 to HDMI Adapter for Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (Amazon)
Aibocn MHL Kit Universal MHL Micro USB to HDMI Cable 6.5 Feet/2M 1080P HDTV Adapter for Samsung Galaxy S5 S4 S3 Note 3 (N5100 N9000 N9006) Note 8.0 HTC LG and More MHL-enabled Phones (Amazon)
In both cases, the phone charger was plugged into the adapter, and I rebooted the phone while the adapter was held into the phone.
Can anyone recommend one? I would prefer not to buy the official Samsung adapter as those are expensive. Thanks!

I bought one online and has exact same problem. They suck. I ended up buying a better one at Best Buy. It worked good. Don't recall the brand though.
I bought a ScreenBeam Mini2. It works great. Connects in seconds through stock Smart View on MagMaNX ROM 2.0.1. Only complaints: Weak range -- phone has to be right by the dongle. Also, phone screen has to stay on for video (but can turn off for music), so I always feel like I'm overworking the display (and it can be a bit distracting if the phone's in sight). But I'm satisfied with it. After all, it works.
More than I can say for the Accell 10-Foot MHL Adapter. Supposed to work for N4, plugs in fine, lights up when powered, but won't mirror. Looks like another dud product. (Or maybe I need a pin adapter? Really wanted this one to work.)
I have had success with these MHL 11 pin to HDMI adapters on my Note 4 910V, and all samsung phones that support 11 pin MHL.
https://frys.com/product/8881832?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG
If you don't have a frys near you, they will ship it to you. Since I have two in my area, I usually wait for a sale when they are around $7 and buy a few for friends and relatives.
I just use my note 3 dock which has the mhl built in and the extra usb ports so I can charge the spare battery at the same time
Thanks everyone for the info. I got my hands on a Note 3, and the adapter that I have fits perfectly, and snaps all the way in. On my note 4, the usb port is not deep enough to allow the adapter to snap in, so it won't work no matter what I try. So, it looks like my Note 4 is not able to use an 11-pin MHL adapter, even though the specs for the phone say it is compatible. I wonder if it is because it's a T-Mobile variant?
it's obvious that note 4 doesnt have 11pin micro USB port. For the note 4 you should get the 5 pin micro usb MHL jack.
