So, is going from the S6 to the S7 really worth it? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Sup y'all, there's no doubt that the S7 is superior to the S6 in every way. But is it that much superior? The S6 is still one of the best phones available in my opinion. So, previous S6 owners, how do you feel about it? Is it worth spending $700 on the S7 coming from an S6? Cheers!

If you want a very good low light camera, or want to capture images underwater, then go for it, otherwise NO

I dunno, I'm not super happy with my S6. It's pretty laggy and slow and not that fluid. For example, I have a full page Chrome boomark widget. When I scroll through that widget, it's very jittery. My S5 was smooth and the S6 isn't. Hopefully the S7 will be better in all aspects. We'll see.

Is your S6 on Marshmallow?
Sent from my A1 using Tapatalk

Definitely yes

I'm in the same boat and the greatest swing factor for me is battery life at this point. The S6 battery life is mediocre at best and from early impressions, the S7 and S7 edge are doing a lot better.
Beyond that, the rest is really just gravy on top, I'm satisfied with the S6 in all ways except battery life and lowlight performance at times.
In theory the S7 fixes all these issues and further polishes the device as a whole. The only issue is justifying the money to buy it which is all dependent upon if I can sell off my S6.
Regardless, I'm still holding off for official reviews to release before I fully make up my mind and weigh the pros and cons.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I'm leaning towards yeah...
For me the sd-card, water-resistance, improved battery life and improved (low-light) camera performance give it a major plus. I actually have the S6 now and really like it, but think I'll upgrade to the S7 afterall. Of course that is all given the money is not a real issue... If you're on a tight budget I'd have to think twice.

It's worth it if you want a decent battery life, the Galaxy S6 is pretty inefficient in that regard

not sure if battery life is really that good on the s7...

I cannot complain that battery life is bad on s6. Don't know why there should be such a big difference. battery is just a little bigger on s7

The battery still lasts a hell of a lot longer than the S6 even with the drain that users are reporting.

Anyone coming from the Nexus 5X/6P?

To those interested in the S7, are any of you current owners of the 5X or 6P looking to upgrade? If so, what made you consider the S7?
Nexus 5x checking in.. Only looking to see what this phone's about, not really considering switching. 5x has all my 'needs' but is missing several 'wants'
Pros for Galaxy S7:
- SD card support
- Super AMOLED screen
- potential 5.1 screen (I like smaller phones hence 5x and not 6p)
- upgraded camera?
- Snapdragon 820
- overall build.. personal opinion
Cons:
- Touchwiz
- Severely limited development
- Difficult to root
- Touchwiz
- cost
I gave my 5x to my son. I find it still unnecessarily big for a 5.2"screen. I'm considering the s7 bit the s6 battery and lag was why my s6 only lasted 2 months. I'm also considering the lg g5 or htc m10. Size is a big factor though.

Since the Snapdragon variant will be released, development should be good to go regarding AOSP. Also, the S6 and Note 5 were rooted relatively fast, so that shouldn't be a problem either.
im coming from the 6p and the only reason i want to switch is because of the size, i belive the 5.1 size is the best for one handed use
Most of users will switch because of Wireless charging. A Nexus device without wireless charging feels like a step backwards.
Once I heard the S7 Edge will have a 3600mAh battery, I think that sold me on the S7. The only thing I'm waiting for is to see if there is a true single model that works on all carriers.

I'm very interested in the S7 as well as the G5. I have the 6P and I like it. I would love it if it were smaller. I really loved the S6 but battery life was a problem for me. Plus the snail pace of updates are not the best.
I may even consider going back to the S6 128GB version one Marshmallow rolls out with Verizon. I really think the only significant difference that will matter is battery size from the S6 to S7. Other little things like water repellent /resistant, for me is minor. Snapdragon s820 is good but most phones perform well with old processors.

The rumor says a 3,000 mAh capacity battery for the S7, we hope it could provide significantly stronger battery performance than the Galaxy S6.
Same as everyone else it looks like.
Had > Galaxy S6

I like the 6p. Battery life is awesome. It's very fast. Constant updates.
But... I realised now that the grass wasn't greener on the other side.
I'd rather have awesome screen, awesome camera and an awesome build over speed, updates and better memory management.
No phone has it all for me. I guess I realised quicker than I thought I would that km bored of this phone.
Plus Oddly I always thought I like bigger phones, but when you compare them side by side on Android, the screen isn't really showing that much more information despite how much larger it is. Change the font on 5.1 inch S6 and it pretty much shows the same as the 6p.
Plus when you have the case off the S6 just felt so premium in the hand. The S7 is sure to be the same.
Yes the S6 battery life was a joke it was so awful. But it's quick charge was so much faster than the Nexus 6p is.
The next question is going to be Edge, or 7. I like the idea of the Edge, but the S6 felt so much better in the hand. Will be interesting to see the S7 variants and see what they're like.

Galaxy s7 is cheaper, smaller screen, smaller battery.
S7 Edge is more expensive. Bigger screen, bigger battery.
S7 edge the edge don't have useful features.
Edge Same CPU, same memory, same GPU.
If I have to chose I go for regular galaxy S7.
Had s6 just sold for 6P, but for sure going s7. The 6P camera of OK but slow to focus. My s6 was fast and sharp pictures. Outside display was amazing for s6, nexus I have to pump brightness to see. Samsung got me again but at least it will have marshmallow with the use of bigger battery and deep sleep this thing is going to rock!! Oh and a free VR headset!!!!!
The VR headset looks like a pretty sweet bonus for pre-order. I'm going to wait it out a few months until I see how the TMo ROMs are shaking out. Hopefully the price will also drop a bit by that time. Then it's the standard S7 at the highest capacity offered. Should be a very worthwhile upgrade over my S4.

I agree 100%. I always wanted a Nexus, and it does have great benefits for me like instant updates, lots of dev support, and I can switch between carriers like Verizon and T-Mobile.
There are lots of issues though. The latest version of Android is somewhat buggy, lacks features compared to Samsung, and the camera software is just horrible in comparison. Plus, for a 5.7" phone the 6P is just huge because of the top and bottom bezels.

Yup. People always rave about front facing speakers. But I don't think they're that loud personally, and definitely not worth the size increase to have them.
The camera software isn't as good at all. I have to agree. Whilst it's true the nexus does take good pictures, it's definitely not as good as Samsung.
Plus I always thought my nexus screen was awesome, but I got my work phone (Galaxy S 6) and put it next to it, and the Samsung sharpness and colours were massively noticeable!
I'd rather have the better hardware, faster charging on an older android software version than this for sure.
Lesson learned. Off to S7 or edge I go!

Does S6 worth as an upgrade to LG G2

Hello i am considering getting a S6 in order to replace my 2 years old LG G2 and i am really concerned if it can be considered as a worthy upgrade (can not go to S7 due to its price to be honest).
I am currently pretty happy with G2 (do not care about the camera) due to its battery since i am using the transportation means for more than 2 hours everyday. My needs are music streaming (4g) calls, emails, some games (candycrush at most) etc.
At the moment since i am out of the house at 7 am and back at 10pm, i return with 10-15% of the battery left.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Of course what are you waiting for , it's definitely worth. But to be honest to only thing the LG G2 is better at compared to the S6 is battery life.
Thank you, but the question is to what extend. Assuming that i need 80-85% of LG's battery during MY day, will S6's battery will be able to come through?
differece is not big in performance , i have two mobiels and i know this
but s6 is , except battery more powerfull
change not is necessary , my opinion
If battery is your main concern and don't care about camera at all, I don't suggest to S6. Use your G2 for one more year and get S7 later it got bigger battery, microSD, 4GB ram and waterproof.
Screen is S6 a bit better but to be honest G2 got one of the best screen even better than G3 and G4. Design is S6 better without doubt and camera way better but I don't think you will take it into consideration. S6 also got Gear VR which is fun if you like 3D gaming but again I don't think you need it.
There is a big difference in performance , better camera , fingerprint scanner and all sammy features , Quad HD amoled screen...etc. As i said before the only thing the G2 is better at is battery life.

My S6 is still running 5.1.1 but after reading the comments of MM on this board, it seems 6.0.1 deliver good battery, I think it's possible to reach 80% of G2 or at least achievable when you enable power saving mode.
Thank you guys, i'll stick with g2 for some time and i will probably get a galaxy tab s2 that i was wishing for some time now .... Thank you for your suggestions

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge vs Nexus 6P - Speed and memory Test

I know this is a test a few people were interested in seeing. Pretty interesting none-the-less, and sort of highlights how redundant some of the Touchwiz speed complaints are these days, and have been for some time. The S7 Edge seems pretty much slightly faster across the board compared to the 6P, at least in this test, though both are super quick. The S7 also only needed to reload one app (Facebook), so it does look like multitasking is much improved. This on top of being able to split screen multitask at any time, which as many will know, stock Android does not yet offer.
My S6 is still running really fast even a year in to use, so I'm confident the S7/S7 Edge will perform as consistently if not more so.

Great vid man next time use Samsung's own browser since chrome is notorious slow on samsung phones and you will see a big difference!
Good video. Though it really only compares boot and app launch times, not necessarily smoothness. Both of which are greatly aided by Samsungs ufs storage. Despite this. Owning the s7 edge it's definitely faster than any device I've previously owned.
Curious to see how a stock 6P would fair. Clearly, that 6P is running a non stock ROM.
Either way, both phones are amazing in terms of speed.

Help! Need to decide between Galaxy S6 or Xperia x performance

Hey guys so im buing a new phone and i've stopped on these two the Xperia x performance because of the Snapdragon 820 and the Galaxy S6 because i like samsung phones and touchwiz in general . I can get the GS6 for 380 dollars and the Xperia for 420 dollars both are new not used i don't buy used products .
Go for Galaxy S6 of course! I had Galaxy S6 Edge+ for few months then I switched to Sony Xperia Z5 Premium and it was like hell! Now I'm using Galaxy S6 and it's was better than the Z5P!
Better screen quality (SuperAMOLED QuadHD), better software experience, better camera, better loudspeakers!
If you can get S6 Edge it will be even better experience.

In fact dropping resolution to 720p for games with Game Tuner app and browser to 1080p with it is optimum and reduces battery usage. But,
X Performance has sd820 and good battery life. Go for it without hesitation as with sd820, you're sure you'll be able to flash newer Android versions when official support is over unlike s6 which has only touchwiz derived roms. S6 never lags and so on, but so is the X Performance with newer cpu. And S6 battery is not enough if you want to game. It's mediocre
I like my s6, but c'mon for $40 more, you get sd820 and the beast Adreno 530!
And the S6 Edge is a scam as the edge is useless and expensive to repair. Should be like only $10 more. And Quad HD screen is useless. Only the camera of the S6 is a great deal!
S6 all the way
I think hardware wise the s6 edges it some aspects. The s6 has a better screen, design, speaker, camera. The sd820 cpu wise has a ln edge over the exynos 7420 but not by a big margin, the adreno gpu is very side and has an advantage over the Mali. Where the Sony probably has another advantage is probably battery life and custom rom access as sd is easier to develop for than exynos. Overall feature wise the s6 does have a few more than the Sony but if you want better battery life, the Sony is your best bet. It all depends on what your preference is and what you value in a device

Tbf I've played some graphically intensive games on the s6 pretty well, the gpu is still a pretty good one, a lot of ports have played great. There's a munches odyssey game not a port on playstore which is very gpu intensive and I got decent framerates. I think if anything maybe battery life could be better on the s6, I mean for me I still manage to get a days use out of it depending on what I'm doing.

A disapointment for Me in S6 is touchscreen. Sometimes it is not working as it should (not registering touch) and using it outside in winter is useless. I don't know it is just My device or it is My cold fingers, but this issue is a big one. A lot of people on web have reported this and now I'm testing *#2663# "fix", will see how it will end for Me. If I would have know this I would bought X Compact for the same price. (There was bargain deal on My operator, S6 will cost Me 240eur, X Compact would be around 250eur if I remember correctly)

I would say that if you are a tech junkie then the S8/S8+ is definitely a looker with quite a few things going for it. If the S7 edge has nothing wrong with it and you are just an average phone user then you could save the extra money. In the end the choice is yours.

I have the plus and I'm BEYOND happy. The software is lag free to the point of stock Android. Hardware is gorgeous. It's fast, fluid, good looking, eye catching, a conversation starter, and has a lot of improvements. First 2 days, battery life is stellar. 5 hours + screen on time with heavy use, high brightness, full resolution, and all my apps and services installed. Even the finger print scanner isn't in a bad place, at least for me. Plus, no doubt your current phone is lagging. So I would say yes, upgrade.
Thanks Guys. Really helped in decision making. I will upgrade to S8

*Plus - gorgeous looks - great and huge screen, Better selfie camera, (CPU/GPU advantages i cant see in real life so i'l not mention them)

*minus - i miss home button double click for camera - on S7 i have been able to take out phone, switch camera and take several pictures with one hand (very useful on a trip), with S8 it is a lot more difficult and i cant make it so far ; camera made 2-3 shots Out of focus - something i never encounter on S7???

I was on the fence of upgrading my S7e to s8. My mind changed after i held the s8 because it actually has smaller screen instead of being advertised as bigger. The ram is still 4gb and processor upgrade from 8890 to 8895 is hairline difference at best. I will pass s8 and wait for Note 8 or s8 plus with 128gb / 6ram combination if they ever release it for europe. I liked the smaller footprint of the device but it is no brainer you're getting a smaller but taller screen.

Make sure you really take the time with both sizes and compare to your current phone. Some prefer the smaller and some prefer the larger. Myself I love the s8Plus. I came from the 7Edge and was one of the Note 7 double recalls.

*Plus - gorgeous looks - great and huge screen, Better selfie camera, (CPU/GPU advantages i cant see in real life so i'l not mention them)
*on par - battery life, call quality
*minus - i miss home button double click for camera - on S7 i have been able to take out phone, switch camera and take several pictures with one hand (very useful on a trip), with S8 it is a lot more difficult and i cant make it so far ; camera made 2-3 shots Out of focus - something i never encounter on S7???

Double click power button on the right brings the camera up on the s8/+

I used a S7 Edge for over a year which is a long time with me. I was going to Jump to the Note 7 but well we know about that fiasco. I was wanting to cancel Jump and just wait a year to buy phones to save cash but well once again I caved in and got a S8. I always justified buying expensive phones and taking advantage of the promo's. I haven't paid for Netflix in a few years. This time I messed up and didn't buy during the promo. sigh Hopefully Samsung will give us some cash with Samsung pay or something. As far as the S8 compared to the S7. S8 is faster and more smooth. I'm not sure if I like the narrow design just yet. When it's in my shorts it lays slanted not straight as the S7. I know it's a minor thing but just a little annoying for me. As far as worth upgrading to the S8 I think if you order the phone you might not get a restocking fee but check on that plus I'm pretty sure you get 30 days. One of the reasons I was hesitant getting the S8 is because I don't think the camera is that much better then the S7 if at all. Also the Note 8 will probably be really nice and not as narrow. Not sure when that is projected to come out. Also I'm interested in the iPhone 8 the 10 anniversary design change. I never had a iPhone.
Narrow design, small battery, barely improved camera, higher price, bixby, idiotic fingerprint positioning.
Thats the reasons i wont buy the S8...the competition can do way better this year...
Samsung went extremely conservative this year and the fact that they only advertise it because of the S8 look tells a lot about it...

That's my only gripe. The Note 8 will most likely have a dual camera system.
Thanks guys. Back in xda forum after a long time. I upgraded from S7edge to S8+. I am very happy with change. Thanks all

Congratz! And enjoy this badboy.
If i had S7 edge, i wouldn't switch because you already got the edge design.
I had a S7 and when S8 came out i was like ... WTF !! I wanted that sexy infinity display.
But to me, this is the only reason to buy this beast. The s7 work well, same camera (Only software change), no bixby button ****.
If your S7 edge is not looking new (i mean you scratch it, ...) , close your eyes and buy one. If your s7 edge is very well looking, just keep it and wait for the s9
