Need help - Xperia Z5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys i am a long time siny fanboy since the p990i till now rocking an m4 aqua which is a replacement for my z1 till the z5 fets a fair price ( 6500egp for a brand new one) so I am going to buy a used one for 4500(without warranty) but i am scared from the so called blur camera problem so i really need ur help for easily spotting this problem before throwing my money can any onw guide me how to spot it please
And sorry for my English

to be honest, I don't really care the so-called blur issue. Think about the circumstances you will use a phone camera: 1, ig or fb or tw, in that case most likely there will be a filter or a mosaic or crop on the photo, then small blur wont even bother. 2, very precious moment that you want to save, well in that case, most likely you will post it on ig or fb or tw, then fall back into circum.1.

Some research isn't that hard. It's easy to find more information about this.
For your own convenience, check this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z5/general/im-doing-tally-z5-series-affected-left-t3242302
There are plenty examples with and without blur over there. It's up to you.
I bought the Z5, first device was faulty but I got it replaced and the second one has a bit blurry also at the edge but I just love this phone.

Ok last thing, where is the water indicator located at in the z5 ?

make sure to check for built failures
there is a thing called light leak (where the display light is slightly brighter on certain areas, you see that mostly if you put completely withe image on your whole screen and set the brightness to ca. 60%)
other problems could be broken water resistance, you can test this with a waterproof test, it's in the general forum (not sure if that test is really accurate though)
there are more things like build errors in the case on the side of example
or yellow tint on photos of you shoot a white wall..
probably there is more, but thats all i discovered so far

Hard to tell if it is resistant, but Sony is known for good quality (even though I wondered about certain built errors on this device)
If Sony did it's job right, it would be water resistant for a few years.
But if you are using if for more than 5 years, I think it's normal it can happen that it breaks.
I didn't create that device so I can hardly tell how resistant the jack is. The device is not so old for now, so people probably didn't experience such thing yet.
One thing you should always make sure is not to dent the jack (possible with pushing the plug to the side whilst it's plugged in), it happened to me on another device, this can demage it fast.
I'd not worry too much for it getting overused, just use your device. Once it's really wearing off already you probably already had 2 other new devices.

yea the device is still new, but ive gone forth and ventured to the z1 forum, and ask them about the water resistance after a period of use, since the z1 have the first open audio jack .
and it turns out fine really, after a year or so , the phone still completely waterproof.
and i was partially wrong about the coating thing, yes they have a coating on the inside of the audio jack, and they also have some kind of membrane to stop water from going in

[Q] Got two new Z3, both have build quality issues

Hello everyone,
I came from a Z1, the mic started malfunctioning and I could only be when using handsfree on it.
So I ordered a Z3 from my carrier, got it shipped by mail. When I received it, the SIM/SD card flap wouldn't close properly, so I phoned customer service and got a replacement Z3 mailed to me. The next one I got (received it 3 days ago) looked fine, until today when I took it out of my front pocket. I heard a poping sound, I had earphones plugged into it. I could see the back glass starting to come off. I'd say whole top left 1/4 of the phone is not glued on anymore.
I really liked the Z1 and the Z3 as well as features and look go, but I am now getting unsure about getting this phone. Am I just unlucky and got two poorly built units, or are they mostly all bad?
JF
You're not the only one, no. My sister bought a Z3 and the left side of the back panel (looking at the back) is not properly attached either, and is flexed outwards. After a small amount of use its to the point now where it is sort of flapping about and she needs to use a case.
My girlfriends Z3 went into a small amount of fresh water to take one picture and moments later the screen went black and died completely. After a few minutes googling i found many other people having the same issues with the Z3's.
Just bad luck bud, get it exchanged while you can. Carriers can be real douche after 7 days or whatever depending your location.
Nothing wrong with my z3 even though its second hand. *fingers crossed*
Just got my 3rd Z3, this one the flaps look fine, the back glass seems glued correctly and it passes the pressure test... The downside is, the box was sealed when I got it, but it was missing the screen protectors. Oh well... just my luck. I'll peel off the ones from the previous one before I ship it back, until I order some new ones.

Xperia Z3 dosent come with screen protectors, so this is not a flaw.
Also you was just unlucky. I bought mine one month ago, i hadnt a single problem with it so far.

It may be.
The first two Z3's I got had screen protectors included in the box. The last one didn't...
Anyway, the last Z3 will go back as it is no longer working. Over the weekend, I was at a friend's batchelor party and we were doing indoor surfing. I was filming him from aside and the phone took a few water splashes, and the display started flickering and died within a few minutes. I am terribly dissapointed in this phone. I really enjoyed my Z1, with all it's glitches and freezing. The Z3's performance was great, it seems it's just the build quality. I had bough my wife a Z3 a few months ago, as she likes water sports and she liked how I could use my Z1 at the beach/lake, but now she is scared of even getting some rain on her's, and we can't return it for another one since we're over the buyer's remorse period.
It's a shame there are no other waterproof phones out there (besides Samsungs).

Buy SAMSUNG and do with that indoor surfing.
Now that's some really bad luck. I heard the Z3 is less than perfect when it comes to build quality but this is just insane. Mine works well and is waterproof but has a dead pixel (I think it's covered under warranty but I don't feel like going to the service center). I hope you get one that works. Other than that if you want something with less than flagship specs there are plenty of rugged phones to choose from. Buy one of those for watersports and buy a different flagship for daily use. I heard the Samsung S6 is supposed to be pretty good.

Chill, I was just giving OP my point of view. He seems to be very disappointed with Sony but he wants a waterproof phone, his best option is to buy a rugged phone for watery outdoors and a different flagship for daily dry use. I like my Z3 more than the S6, but if my Z3 were to suddenly explode and make me get buyer's remorse I would most likely buy the S6 which is the second best phone on the market after Z3 imo.

Ok, no problem.
I think I'll keep the Z1 around for watersports. It still runs fine, the only problem is the mic is busted on it. I was thinking of using it with a sports band to put on my forearm and use as a GPS while riding my motorcycle. I'll just get a regular, non-waterproof phone instead.
I've had a Galaxy S4 in the past. The hardware is great, but I don't like the UI and all the software they load it with. I might look into the M9, since it seems like the one of the last ones with SD card support. Anyone has comments on it?

Defective Volume Buttons

The physical volume buttons on My Z5 aren't responding anymore. Also you don't feel The "click" when pressing vol-up or down.
If i press press The buttons with a enormous force, you Will feel a small click and The device registers The vol-up or down.
I still have warranty until 04/2018 but im not sure If this is a warranty coverage case.
I contacted Sony Support and i can send the phone in to their Service Center. However, im not sure if its a warranty case? From the outside there no visible damage that could lead to this issue. Only a small ugly spot on 2 of the phone's corners. Besides that, the phone itself is 100% scratch or damage free.
Does someone knows if these problems usually will be repaired under warranty? Also, will i get a Refurbished model or will this one get repaired?
Is there someone with The same problem?
Usualy sony doesnt care much about bumps. MY friend had sony and it was actually missing whole edge and it stopped working. They fixed all on warranty, i dont think it will be a problem. I think they will fix this, its quite easy to change those buttons
Great! Btw, i bought this device second-hand online because my Nexus 6p broke. 1st Xperia ever.
Its a 'bit' bulky, but the Stock software is just the best aftermarket Android overlay ive ever worked with. The phone itself feels very very nice in hand and responds very quick to every action.
I was thinking about selling my device when i can get a new device from my contract (in 3 months, might go for S8), but this device will be a good backup device! I love it.
Any tips with this Device?
ps. i dont want to Unlock bootloader because im afraid they dont fix it under warranty anymore lol

yea i wonder myself same thing about bootlaoder and warranty, if anyone actually cares about that on service. For me this is best device size and extremely powerful and tunnable. Only thing i hate are buttons onscreen. I was thinking of swapping it for s6 edge maybe, but that phone is so damn big. Battery is totally better than any highg end samsung device. Thats about it. With no rooting there is not alot of tips to go on haha

My Battery life is still not that great. Plugged out at 100% this morning (3 hours ago), SOT 1:10 hour and 72percent remaining.
I did updated FULL WIPE to the new Nougat.
Any tips?
Dont mind the s6 please. Had it before, but you will get annoyed by the size if you like this phone. Also battery life is much worse than almost any other phone.
Customization options are less on stock, but Rooting and flashing roms are a bit more then here. But this phone is much more complete when you leave it to stock.
Im planning to go for S8 Edge because for me, i like bigger size. It'll get almost certain a 6.2 inch display, packed in the same size as the S7 edge now because it will be bezel-less.
I like the design of samsung's phones alot, especially the Edge series.
Had a nexus 6p for almost a year, perfect phone in size, quality, updates, customization. But...... i know myself, im flashing roms on weekly basis...
So im using the Z5 with a lot of joy atm because of the good stock rom.

Is it only me - or is the Sony XZ Permium becoming a joke?

Hey there,
see, I'm not really the impatient kind of guy, I have lived through all the LG G4 issues, I had my deviced repaired three times. People make mistakes, so do major companies.
But one thing I really don't fancy is the feeling of being mocked. Right now, I'm really considering returning my XZP and kissing Sony good bye for good.
Here's why:
My smartphone has some random weird bugs:
- the front facing speaks just switch off randomly until restart
- the screen sometimes flickers until I turn adaptive illumination off and on again
- did anyone here check only reviews? Most hail the camera for its impressive quality. What quality!? My old G4 beats the XZP under all conditions, the G2 is at least very very close - and it's now four years old.
- and the distortion issue.
I mentioned a few things on the Sony forum and for some weird reason all of these threads just disappear into thin air. When contacting the Sony support, they'd advise me to do a software reset (MoFo please!).
Is this a bad joke? Is that how Sony wants to get back in the game of top-notch smartphones? I'm beginning to understand all the promos for those who preordered - they knew what they had coming.
Really, it's kind of hard to get me pi**ed but I'm kinda pi**ed.

Yea, sure. But that is not what I meant. It's not about returning and having it repaired (what btw will not happen if they don't even acknowledge the issue), it's about how they deal with that. I mean, especially talking of the distortion issue - that is not just me. That is most likely with all devices or at least a very very big share. How come they just ignore that? LG or even Apple, they are at least straight when they make mistakes.

And here I just picked up two Premiums haha. Sorry that you're unhappy.
I don't think Sony is ignoring anything. But it is not even fully released yet around the world. I am sure they are aware of the issues and "hopefully" will come up with a patch to remedy all the big issues. As for your particular phone you may have received a lemon and simply need to replace it. I can appreciate the major hassle of doing such a thing but it is an unfortunate reality in today's world. I say all this as an owner of the black version of the xz premium and I love it. I am not having the major issues that some are having. Got it from the UK.
Most definitely a defective unit. Speakers turning off until restart? Not gonna have any of that lol. RETURN FOR ANOTHER UNIT IF POSSIBLE!
My own case is different, I feel like I've got the best device for me at the moment.
Sent from my G8141 using Tapatalk
pre-ordered mine today and will be in hand Sunday morning, hopefully this batch of us units are better and don't face any of these issues. I'll exchange till I'm happy or get refunded. I seem to get lucky with my Sony products so crossing fingers.
I'm just going to leave this here...
This is a link to a post I made on Sony's forum a while ago. Personally I think you have a faulty unit but you never know, maybe the history likes to repeat itself?

Well you definitely are suffering from the distortion issue, all XZP phones have it. Open up a grid pattern on your PC screen or take a picture of a brick wall. You will definitely notice a pincushion deformation at the edges of the picture.

As mentioned, all XZP have it. All. No exceptions - Sony confirmed this already .

For god's sake, who would take picture of perfectly square grid on a daily basis?
This is just like those idiots who bought a thousand dollars wide angle DSLR lens and complain about distortion by shooting only brick walls all day.
Wide angle has distortion! It is tough to get rid of it physically in the glass already for full size camera, let alone getting rid of it in a lens the size of a pea!
If the lens on the phone can be that perfect, you will be paying well over $1000 for the phone itself!
If camera is all you care, go get Huawei's P9/P10!
To OP, seriously, replace your phone, many users aren't having same issues as you do meaning yours is faulty!
It is much more realistic to physically go replace it than to whine about it online! Finding sympathy in virtual world will get you no where, this goes the same for all other brands!
Let Sony gets your faulty unit to examine, and to prevent same thing from happening in future phones is much more realistic than raising waves online with all sorts of words.

People don't do doesn't mean issue is gone. Xperia Z3 compact has wide angle lens too, it doesn't have such significant distortion. Galaxy S7 also has large FOV lens, but their developer gave an auto-correction option. We payed almost same price, and Sony said its camera is perfect in ad.s
what's more, wide angle lens won't take photos like this, it's the damn lens correction software fault
Sony just manage to balance its cheque book in the mobile field. Honestly, allow them time to cure it, Sony deserve to stay.
All I wanna point out is that, it is not really big issue unless you shoot picture of computer mon, grid or brick wall all day. And many people mixed the distortion with typical wide angle lens perspective distortion, which created more chaos than necessary.
Many people still shooting great picture of people and scenary, so stop worrying so much. Have fun with the phone, when times come the firmware upgrade, we will get even better grid/brick wall pictures.

Sony saving its mony in a wrong way. They deliver the best cmos, but do less work on software. Photos still look painted, and without OIS (EIS only in Video mode), it is hard to take a perfect photo at night

what's more, wide angle lens won't take photos like this, it's the damn lens correction software fault

I am suffering from the distortion issue right now ,bought it because I saw the ad shows a perfect camera on this phone.
Well, true, they need more effort on software side. Again, they are in the right step with the new managment focusing on collaboration between departments, time will tell how much better they will do. Previously they don't collaborate.

anyone else got their phone wet and :( ?

I dropped my magic 2 in water for a microsecond and it hasn't started up again Anyone experience this and know what would most likely have happened and if repairable?
I was thinking of asking Huawei to take a look at it given they have an office local to me but asking first on the off-chance someone has cracked one open. And as a warning to others not to dare let there's near water
:crying:
Honestly, while some very nice aspects to this phone - especially the screen and the Dex-like functionality which is very impressive the first time - the lack of Assistant support, inability to modify much, along with the weight of it and mediocre camera, I don't mind going back to my dinged-up Note FE. But it would be nice to fix it if possible.
You need to be sure is dry inside before power on. Just wait some days and then try it.
If u already did start it may some parts are broken and u should visit Huawei Center and they may have a look at it. Maxbe its easy fixable...
