I'm having a problem maintaining a GPS lock. I downloaded GPS Status app from the app store and used the option to reset GPS data and then download assistance data. Still the same, it will get a lock after maybe a minute searching but can only maintain it for a few secs and then starts searching again. It is making Google maps unusable. I've heard that when you have problems with GPS that it is often hardware and phone needs to be replaced. Has anyone got any suggestions?
EDIT: Seems to be working now after the third phone restart, very strange, hopefully this isn't a regular thing?
What model do you have? I have an NXT-AL10 and I can't get my gps to work in Canada. I'ts super frustrating to not be able to use google maps.
this is weird, i never had issues with gps on the mate 8, its actually the fastest locking phone ive had thus far,... even with mobile data switched off! what kinda firmwares are u guys sporting?

GPS not working.
I have a stock AL10. Just got an update to AL10C00B197. I was hoping it would fix the GPS-didn't. Been thinking about rooting, and getting some 'int SFW, I don't think that would fix it. Also Google play cannot install via mobile data( rooting etc. Would fix that). My wife gets very frustrated with my phone. I think I'm going to call somebody about it on Monday.
O had problems with gps when i was using a aluminium cover. When i switched to a silicone case all problems were gone
Aluminium case.
Sorry I'm still working on my first 10 posts!
This is my case:

It's a very good case(when you drop it). I'll use the factory case today and see if it works better.
GPS working
Well, I took off the case and it works great. I figured they would have thought about testing it before marketing them.

When I first got the phone it seemed like I could lock on in about a minute. Tried to use the GPS the other day and after it searched for a few minutes in the car I just turned it off. Very frustrating... What are you guys experiencing?
I am on stock rom, rooted, gorilla v05 OC kernel.
Are you moving when you were trying to get a lock? When your moving it takes much longer to get a lock, this is true even with dedicated GPS units. Having said that my MT4G takes about 10-15secs to lock outside not moving, very nice coming from a Galaxy S which couldn't lock or track to save it's life. To many variables if moving to make a good comparison in GPS performance.
mine locks in seconds... love it after the vibrant lol
Yes, I have tried while walking and while in the car. Just tried to put the phone up to the window of my apartment for several minutes with no luck. I will try to stand still outside tomorrow.

I had the same issue! It wasn't like that in the beginning but the other day I was trying to get directions while driving and it was such a pain in the ass that after 4 minutes, it still said "searching for GPS". Garbage...
i wonder what was wrong. I was outside and the weather was pretty decent but nighttime.
Same thing here, although I was blaming it on CM rom....

I didn't root mine but I have the same problem. When I first got the phone it used to lock on GPS very fast, now I use Igo or Copilot and both take like ever to find lock on GPS . I use GPS test app and it shows like 6 GPS Sats but the programs still can't get the gps reading.
I have just tried it after uninstalling copilot just to keep one navigation application and I disabled wireless network location assistance and I think gps worked fine,i have to try it tomorrow again.

Gps is not stable, today I tried it by holding the phone in street and standing . Gps test apo got about 6 or 8 but no location locking on google maps or igo . I went to my room, placed the phone on the window I got sometimes 3 and then 8or 9 .it worked eventually and started to become fast (i turned the gps on and off) it seems like a software problem!i am not sure

I had a lot better luck trying to lock on while standing still. I have also since switched to Iced Glacier 1.1.1 and now 1.1.2, but I think that being stationary with a good view to get initial lock is key.
My brand new Mytouch 4G (stock rom, not rooted) has the same issue. It tries to get a GPS lock using google nav for minutes without ever getting a lock. I can disable GPS and enable it to sometimes speed up the lock process, but it never locks in less than 30 seconds. From the previous posts, it sounds like the GPS hardware is sub par on this phone and there may be no quick fix. Fortunately, mine is still new and can swap it out for another and see if that helps.
My gps works fine, although once it would not lock on, and a simple reboot took care of that...
I often use GPS test or navigation just because I love seeing how well it works...
...coming from a Vibrant
I experience the same problems with the mytouch before and after rooting and installing custom roms, I think its the phone itself, I never had this problem with the nexus one
I too have noticed it is sometimes really really slow.
Much much slower than my old E-71 sometimes.
I wonder if cases/how you hold it can affect it.

So I got one for $34, delivered today. Looks perfect other than a couple scuffs on the bottom corners. The seller said it was working fine (despite listing saying it was for parts/not working). I don't have any usable cell service where I live without getting a booster and antenna of some sort, so I don't care about activating it. I plan on using it basically as an internet tablet to check email, etc.
I do not have an sd card, charger, or data cable yet, they should come tomorrow. Since the battery is close to dead, I can't find out much. It turns on fine, gets to the home screen and has that "too many pattern attempts" screen (screen looks perfect, not a single scratch by the way) with the google login. I know not to try a full hard reset with the battery being about dead, but I have tried to bring up the menu option so I know how to get there when I do get it charged. I have tried every key combination method I can find with no luck, keys ~seem to all be working from what I can tell, read in the comments that a few people had no luck. One time I got that screen with the android and shovel, waiting for download. I was wondering if that is from the factory, or if that means it's been rooted?
Basically, all I really want to do is restore it to stock for right now. Maybe something better down the line, I'd just like to use it for now since I've never even really seen a smartphone before, because nobody has one with the poor cell service here. I have the EE19 build downloaded, and I see the restoring to stock thread. I want to do it the right way. So, if it has lagfix installed, I see I need to disable that. Any other things I should know about? I was just wondering if it sounds rooted, if I need to do something else if it is. I don't have a lot of time on my hands to do research, although I did a little already, and I have a very limited internet connection so I can't download a lot of things, I wasn't expecting to need to do this when I communicated with the seller.
Thanks for any advice or tips.
Edit: I was also wondering the best way to go about checking the ESN, or if I should try. Like I said, I don't care to activate it on US Cellular, but if I'd resell it or something. I know I could use PagePlus, but the Verizon tower is 30 miles away, so not much chance of that working well either. I don't think it should be stolen or anything, but was thinking if the account ever got settled or anything....
Well I got it, posting from it now. Only problem is unsuccessful download errors in app market, after download is almost complete. On wifi. I tried every solution I found for that with no success. Other than that, no problems.
Tried every fix for the market, deleting cache, changing permissions on vendor.apk, etc. Seeing it was a common problem with few solutions that work, I flashed CM7. That worked great, apps installed fine, but of course wireless cut out constantly, not usable for long. Saw that was common, tried everything with no luck. Went back to stock, then airplane mode, now market works fine. It fails whenever not in airplane mode. So I'm sticking with this for now.
Can't activate anyway, but best I saw was -104db, but mostly no service. My LG tracfone does a little better with reception.

Just did a factory data reset after having my Infinity come to a grinding halt. Initially, the stock web browser came to a crawl and began to force close just about every hour of use. Browser began to stop responding and ask if i wanted to wait or close.. Typing would be delayed and would display in spurts, no matter what app or web browser i would be using at the time. Screen would lock up completely at times. Pressing the home icon would take me to a blank homescreen with no icons and would take forever to recover. Launcher would stop responding asking if i wanted to wait or close. Overall system responsiveness began mimicing the Prime's issues on its worst day! Which leads me to the GPS...
GPS was working fine when i first received my C6OKASxxxxxx, but now it wasnt picking up on any satellites at all... it would detect 1 but it wasnt in use. Then i decided to just do the factory reset as was suggested in another thread... when the system was setting up i decided to opt out of letting Google use its Location Services (wifi assisted). I then, after a factory fresh reset, tried GPS Test and this time could not detect a single satellite. I have another Infinity (a C7xxxxxxxxxx) that i am returning to amazon because of multiple fails on quality control, and decided to try that one and disable Google Location Services but it couldnt get any satellites either. Both Infinity's also couldnt refresh to get weather data when using the stock weather widget...
After re-enabling Google Location Services they both immediately located and locked on satellites...
So the question is, is it GPS or AGPS? And what in the world could have caused my tf700 to go to sh**???
I believe it's been common with various Android devices, I remember having this "issue" on HTC Hero under Android 2.1 - 2.3.x versions, it seems you just need Google to do some monitoring for you, which is quite unsettling really. Perhaps someone will come with a better explanation than Google's need to put the blame on legal matters and do some "data collecting", but I feel we have a few things merged here.

Sorry your having such issues. I wanted to say that mine is working fine even with Google Location Services off. In my first initial setup of my tablet I had mine checked off. The Infinity definitely has its own internal GPS no assistance required.

Thanks very much for letting me know that yours works without Google location services active. If i could get a few more people to confirm that theirs works just the same i would simply send this one back and give it one more chance... I'm so torn, cause i really want to like this tablet, and it shines when its working, but I've had pretty bad luck with Asus tablets... what are the chances that i have a C6 AND a C7 with the same problem??? Jeeze... SMH
Anyone else?
I guess i have a faulty tablet... no one else willing to contribute to this thread?

I'm in a similar situation as you. The tablet I got wouldn't lock on satellites inside. I had to go outside for GPS Test to see any satellites and it only saw 4 satellites and none of them were in use. I did these tests without wi-fi assistance. I did a factory reset multiple times and the GPS was still poor.
Ultimately, I requested a RMA because of other problems like the power and volume buttons being mushy. I'm waiting on a replacement now. Asus seems to have some problems with quality control. If the problems prevent you from using it how you want then I suggest you return it for a refund/replacement as you seem to have gotten a defective tablet. $500 is a lot of money to spend for a tablet that performs less than your expectations.

Thanks hack, I'm just going to return and exchange it... AGAIN.
One more try and if i strike out again i guess ill just do without a tablet until a better one comes along... most likely not an Asus though. I've really tried to give them a chance, but I'm just scared ill get something that has other problems besides the ones I've experienced. I like the tablet, but not the inconsistencies... seems like a rush to production if you ask me.
Has anyone tried the Dual Electronics xgps150a external Bluetooth GPS receiver?
I am a pilot using Naviator (android's answer to ForeFlight) and in-flight my GPS would lose signal when I lowered the tablet below the dashboard.
This Bluetooth reciever says it works with "many android devices".
Has anyone found this device to be compatible with the tf700? (pilot or otherwise)

Figured this might be a good option for peoplewho "need" a stronger GPS signal
EDIT:
Upgraded to ScottsROM Jelly Bean and the GPS is way stronger and had great recep from Fort Lauderdale to Bahamas Chub Cay with tab on my lap.
Longstory short, get scottsrom JellyBean and profit
So I have stock unlocked and rooted Tmobile LG G5 and my GPS is ridiculously way off unless I'm using and connected to wifi (which really makes it useless).
I thought it was a hardware issue since it takes anywhere from 5 minutes to an HOUR to get a solid lock. Tried other apps to find location, Google maps is my main, snapchat can't find a lock Facebook, waze. The list goes on. I'll have full 4g LTE signal with a perfect connection. Even at my home on the 3rd story of my house, the GPS put me a few miles away literally in the middle of the river. It's astonishingly bad how terrible the "lock" is. When it is locked and I'm driving, it'll say "searching using gps" for 5 minutes at a time before briefly finding a lock and showing me sliding through people's yards a block away.
Now I thought this was a hardware issue.
But.
Here's the kicker.
Using the hidden lg g5 dialer menu to open to gnss 2.0? Gps testing option finds a lock as quickly as 3 seconds and the GPS lock will last as long as gps is activated on the phone.
So if I restart my phone or get tired of the minute battery drain I have to open the menu, run the test, and go through the same song and dance.
Now if the hardware is able to find a lock so quickly and easily, it leads me to believe that turning gps on in the settings doesn't actually turn the GPS on? Like the directive isn't reaching the hardware? I really need some help with this if someone wouldn't mind.. I just can't seem to figure this one out.
I've been watching to see of anyone with this problem has updated to 10d to see if it was corrected in the update.
Also hoping it is software and not hardware. I really don't want to exchange for a refurbished phone and still have the issue.
If it is software though I'm wondering why there isn't more chatter about it on the forums.
Sent from my LG-H830 using XDA-Developers mobile app
I'm right there with you on not wanting to have to exchange. Especially since rooting was a pain for me. But if the hardware works when I'm using the test software it has to be software problem imo. I wish someone could help with this.
I had the same issues with GPS, troubleshooted a couple things on the phone with customer service and they finally issued a replacement after 3 attempts to fix over the phone. The new one locks on instantly when navigating and stays on the entire time. My other one would always say searching for GPS

My last phone was an S3. I started losing GPS and it was bad, took forever to connect and would lose connection while navigating. I looked for a fix and was about to replace the phone when I found a thread where the poster had simply removed the battery cover and tightened all the screws. I did that and my GPS became spot on. Faster connections than when the phone was new, pretty much instantaneous, and was even connecting inside where it previouly would not. I also had an unuseable USB connector and after that fix I could charge again.
With my G5 I have been constantly having momentary Bluetooth drops in my car and lately the GPS is getting very flaky (takes a long time to connect and loses connection often while navigating). I have not yet attempted to open the phone to get to the board screws (not so easy on a sealed phone) but it is either that or replace the phone. I am just afraid that if I open the phone I will void the warranty.
Got the pinch test to work, so I guess it is a hardware problem getting weak signal from a bad connection. Tmobile says they'll replace it on warranty. Hopefully new one works fine and can be rooted as well. Really need titanium backup. Thanks for the replies, glad to know I'm not the only one dissatisfied.
The pinch test, by the way, is grabbing your phone slightly above the volume up button and directly across and squeezing. That makes my GPS lock instantly. While letting go loses the lock instantly.
Had the same issue after I flashed the maps from OpenGapps
The last update that I received yesterday fixed my GPS woes. Locks on in 5 seconds now.
i manually installed 10d kdz (never rooted) via lgup hoping it would fix my gps problems but i'm having no luck. it's annoying as **** because it's messing up my pokemon go experience as well as making me miss exits when navigating via google maps. having to read the map off the phone is incredibly dangerous. t-mobile better not be charging a fee for warranty service, this needs to be a damn recall from LG
The tech I spoke to after calling 611 was awesome.
Supposed to pick my new phone up in the morning. Total fee for replacement was $5. Apparently the 2 guys in store and the tech himself had not heard of this problem. Hopefully this phone seriously was just a dud. I'll report back tomorrow if my phone actually gets here. Its been screwing up my GO experience as well. Hahaha

Did you root the new working phone? And does the GPS still work while rooted? I've seen a lot of people complaining that their GPS broke only after rooting. So I've been curious... Would hate to get a replacement and then break it again with a root, ya know?
It's rooted and it works. I thought that too in the beginning cause I had the phone for a while before root became available and it worked

That doesn't make my gps lock, but I DO have awful GPS... So I'm not alone. That's good news! Also, glad to hear this is something TMo will run a replacement for. So dumb that phones have been coming out with perfect gps for a bajillion years and we still get borked devices sometimes... Hopefully my replacement has the old 10a version on it.

In hoping to Odin that it comes with the 10a. I'll report after I pick it up.

Hassle? You've got LGUP installed, so just DL a kdz/tot and flash it before you toss it in the box. Don't forget fastboot oem lock!
New phone came with 10a! Apparently the factory stock is 10a. Rooted and all is working. All of my sensors are better now, gps is spot on, locks in 3 seconds or less. Pedometer is actually accurate for once. And the signal all together (wifi and cellular) are better. I guess my old phone just slipped through quality control, haha.
I hope all you guys dealing with this same problem either get it fixed or replaced like I did. =( it's a shame that a "flagship" would have these kinds of issues.
hi all,
my Honor 8 is stock on the latest OTA update and often has GPS oddities. I play a lot of Pokémon GO so it's really apparent. A lot of the problem is that I get "GPS Signal Not found" whereas 3 or 4 other branded phones right next to it get a GPS signal first time no problem
Also when GPS is working it either stays totally stationary (unrealistic) or darts around hundreds of metres from where I am. Either way it's really not fit for purpose, I'm having to use a £100 cheap phone instead.
Any ideas? will a ROM fix it? is the phone faulty? do they all have this?
Cheers.
Backup, factory reset, restore backup.
Calibrate GPS once in a while, specially when the facing blue area in front of the blue dot is wide.

If you updated from previous firmware version without factory reset, then yes.
You may just have a dud GPS chip.
