Hello. My mate 8 keeps killing apps. Realistically this happens when the apps do not get started on start up at all or the all clear button is used for running apps and these apps to not get re started. I have looked at the permissions they have been given auto run permissions they have been given run in the background permissions they have been given battery optimization excuse meaning they're allowed to run no matter what the battery. They have also been given data usage permissions. Essentially these are apps such as the Tasker the locale app things that automate phone
If someone knows an automation app that is not murdered by this phone I'll just change apps

Lol I actually don't mind this. Saves me so much battery for apps like Facebook
Yes but it turns a smart phone into a paper weight. A very expensive one. I can do better with a lesser battery life

I notice the same. It was worse in NXT-L29C636B103 but seems to be better in NXT-L29C636B180 but some of my essential apps that work with automation like Situations and Silence Premium are not working properly at all.... need to find out how, all these apps I am talking about are already in "Protected Apps" and in "Ignore Battery Optimzations". That means, don't touch them and let them run its course because it needs to... and I command it so...
But internally, either EMUI 4 or Marshmallow 6 is ignoring these "whitelist" that they themselves implemented. I'm running debug logs with one of the developers of the apps I am having problems with... and he noticed instead of not touching the application, it is being "killed" and "restarted" all the time. Nooooo!!!
It is a nice feature for battery life.... but if you kill essential apps that the user has told you to not touch, then, that is way #[email protected]*!?*&
Additionally to the ignore optimizations, and Protected Apps in Battery Manager..
If you go to Settings -> Apps, then go into specific app you want..tap Battery...and you have options
- App Auto-Launch
- Keep running after screen off

Need help or I will kill this phone !!
Thanks
Same here with most important app like Facebook and Facebook Messenger
I get the solution from digging on web
Press the home hot key.press the options hot key(the one with three horizontal lines)task manager list will be opened will all the minimized appsjust SWIPE DOWN on the app you wanted to run in backgroundNow A lock symbol will be displayed on the app, which means that app is locked from killing by task manager.i.e your app will now run in background even after killing all the tasks in task manager. To reverse it(to unlock it or to prevent running it in background) press the home, then options hot key.. Now swipe that app UP..that lock symbol will be gone and you can kill it with task manager.

I use Active Apps & Watchdog to kill apps. Both in the market.
It's a Recent Apps list. Not a running in the background list.
All Android since 1.0 (T-Mobile G1, the first Android phone), there's been a recent app list. You press and hold the Home button. On Android 3.0 for tablets, there is a dedicated button.
In Android 3.1, the recent app list has been extended to more than 5 shown. It's now 14/15
You don't need to manually quit apps on Android. I get 15-20 hours battery with heavy use.

I just leave the screen on auto brightness. The battery on these things is excellent.
I am new to not just Honeycomb but android all together. I think that it is completely asinine that there isn't an easy way to stop/close apps. when you bring up the recent app list if you tap & hold you should be given the option to close that app/window.

An "app" called Android. Honeycomb caches and/or kills apps on its own. Try it without the killer. Start angry birds, exit and then go back....
So what is a GOOD and FUNCTIONING Task Manager app for the HoneyComb platform? I am using ZDBOX for my Thunderbolt, but it is NOT compatible with HoneyComb.
I use Task Manager to monitor which apps is USING too much battery, not killing them. It's must faster to use this type of app than going to Settings -> Applications and wait for the apps to be listed.
For example, I use ZDBOX in my Thunderbolt and notice that Skype is running in the background ALL THE TIME, using 11 to 25 Mb even when I am not using it for the whole day. Battery life begun to suffer, so I uninstall it.
The way android works is that if an app is using a service that needs to be ran in the background, you'll find it in that list in the application menu. Otherwise, it gets cached, so it will restore faster when you you open it again. Plain and simple, if you need to use a task manager for an Android app, it's either a poorly designed app - possibly containing something bad, or you need to shut down all the services the app needs - which should be a rare occasion if it's a worthwhile app.
What are you trying to kill so often?
If it's something that you've told is okay to run in the background, when you kill it, it probably starts up again. Using a task manager to kill these means your phone is constantly starting up and killing a service, which isn't good for battery life.

Must not be playing much flash. That eats it up.
watchdog not only will let you kill apps but tell you if any are overachivers
if things get out of hand press and hold the power button for a clean restart
I think if you go through settings and look for running apps, you can kill them. You app murderer.

That's why I need a Task Killer: to kill those poor-behaving apps. I don't use the Task Killer very often, though.
For example: I use an app called Flight Track. I don't fly very often, but I do fly more than average (once to twice a month, sometimes none in a month). This app is running in the background ALL the time. But on months I don't fly, I do not need this app to run in the background. So I kill the app and it does NOT start again in the background until I manually start the app.
icon changes after update
hi,
i have some games in a home screen folder.
when that game updates, then the icon in the folder looks the default android icon and not the original game/app icon, as before the update.
to get the game icon back, i have to delete that icon and then make another shortcut for that game and put it into the folder.
any other war to do this ?
will having less services running, extend the battery life ?
google maps always seems to be on as a service, though i havent used it in a long time. if i stop the service, it starts again.
which android services can be safely stopped ?
HTC Desire S, Sense UI 2.1, Android 2.3.3
thanks
Anyone has the same experience ?
+ 1 mate
my solution is just move .apk to internal mem
after that is ok
I rebooted and it fixed the icons issue.
Yes, fewer active services will improve battery.
Google maps is used for location services like weather, world clock etc. other apps that use location services.... So it comes back on no matter how many times you kill it, unless you totally turn off all network connections, which is no fun.
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA Premium App
& also running less services does not improve your battery life as when a program is on RAM it doesn't use power
but if you kill services with task managers then they will start again which causes battery drain
I let the phone to update automatically, i dont move the apks myself.

For me, reboot does not refresh the icons, they still remain as the default android icon.
i can delete them and then make the app shortcut again, and then add to the folder, then the appropriate game icon is shown.

i do not kill processes myself. earlier i was using ATK, but then i removed it.
i just monitor the processes and services running in the background.
what u r saying about program being on RAM consuming no battery, is true. but what i was wondering was about services - which i believe dont just stay and idle in the RAM, but i think must be consuming some resources.
So i would like to know which android services can be safely shut down.

I have apps that should be checking for notifications (Tweetcaster, Friendcaster and G+) not doing so because they are being closed down by the system and so cannot do the periodic checks. Is there any way to force Android to leave apps open?
I'm using ICS and the apps are setup to check/notify.
I think its up to the app.....it must has the push notification on ....if that is on the app will continue to notify you....
I don't think you can force android to keep it open running in background....

The app says it has push notifications, and they work when the app is in memory, it's just it gets closed down all the time.
If there is no way to make it stay in memory, is there a way to get it to start every hour?

I'm looking for a better one, but am using Franco at the moment. It seems hard on the battery (at least without some governor / clock speed tweaking) and I've had a few reboots, but it's very smooth and it's so nice to not have my background tasks killed anymore (music, radio, downloads, etc).
Have you set 'Backgroud Process limit' or 'Don't keep Activities' options?
No, it's on standard limit.
can anyone explain me what are the differences, should i use 1 of programs or both, which is better one?
Greenify halts apps from running and misbehaving in the background. Things like battery doctor manage the hardware settings like screen brightness and WiFi settings. Most of the things done by something like battery doctor can be done (perhaps better) just setting things manually. You can run both though. Greenify is probably more important in my opinion but they do different things.

Greenify is much better then battery doctor as greenify stops apps to run in background which means that cpu will consume less energy thus reducing battery usage. Greenify also improves performance

Yup, you can say that again. Greenify will prevent an app to run in background after you've finished. Look at this link: http://lifehacker.com/greenify-auto-hibernates-apps-youre-not-using-to-save-513922193

Greenify
Greenify is better in my opinion. But to utilise its full potential you'll need to root your phone although there is a new version which works on non-rooted devices. It makes the phone faster by reducing Ram usage also because once you exit the app Greenify hibernates it so it doesnt hog the Ram.
greenify
because can hibernate apps that you wont running in background
so it can make your phone faster

guys, I have an issue here
mine is 6GB ram of 7 Pro
I open only two apps in background, when I switch to another app, the app just refreshed, meaning it was killed, why is that so?
Now I can't multitask because I can barely open few apps and keep it running in background
I'm on latest open beta 1 though
Even when I'm on stable OxygenOS I feel the same issue, anyone ?
Go to settings, developer option and running services
My system shows 3.6GB to around 4GB usage, so much ?

Set the apps you want running to don't optimize.
Are you on Android Q?
Because there you have to give it some time to adapt to your usage pattern, so that it will make sure your apps are loaded when you usually use them. Worked good for me after a few days.
If you still want to turn off battery optimization:
1. Disable advanced optimization under battery settings.
2. Set your apps to "Don't optimize" in the battery settings.
3. Lock them in the recents menu.
