OK...I hate Marshmallow. I never should have upgraded. The SD management and inability to move apps to the SD card (even with Titanium Backup) is killing me. I'm thinking of going to CM 12.1. So, a few questions:
1) Is there any way to move apps to the SD card with Titanium Backup (or another method) as in versions prior to 6.0?
2) If not, has anyone gone from Marshmallow (Motorola OTA from 5.1) to CM 12.1? Any problems?
Thanks!
You can use ES File Explorer to "backup" (copy the apk files without their data) to your internal SD Card and just flash CM 12.1 or any CM 12.1 based ROM. If you haven't unlocked your bootloader yet, move the backup APKs to your external SD card or else they'll get wiped (internal SD card gets wiped entirely).

So it would be safe to go from OTA Marshmallow to CM 12.1 (based on 5.01)? I've read horror stories of people trying to go back. I've already been able to make backups using TWRP and TiBu, so that isn't an issue.
Thanks!
Yup, just make sure you clean flash everything. Should work fine. I moved from OTA Marshmallow to Resurrection Remix 5.1.1. Worked just fine

I spoke too soon. CM12 has started showing some issues (will start slowing down significantly and will require a reboot). I've tried uninstalling apps and going bare min for what I need, but doesn't help.
So, does anyone know how to go back to the stock 5.1 after a 6.0 update? I've found the posts about restoring Moto G 2015 to stock, but from what I've read (and experienced), this doesn't work for a downgrade (I get the "Preflash validation failed" error).
Thanks!
What about CM 13 ? At that point, try CM 13, then you'll try to go back to stock 5.1.1.

I'd like to try it, but there is no official CM13 build for the Moto G 2015.
Tbh, I planned to use Optimized rom from Lost101, but it does not work yet, so I've tried CM13 (last 05/03 build), and I don't have encountered issues. But I'm not a heavy user so I can't tell for sure. And I don't have SD card to test behavior...

Where did you get the CM13 build?
xda-developers > Moto G 2015 > Moto G 2015 Original Android Development > Unofficial CM 13 by Alberto97.
My answer is too simple. I guess you meant something else. Maybe you meant "official" ? In case, it is not official, but it will become at some point.
Hmm...I may try the CM13 unofficial build. Worst thing that happens is I go back to stock.
my personal opinion and what I have is
MM stock - rooted - customized with squid kernel - xposed
CM 12.1 I don't like it prefer stock MM

My phone is 16gb of internal memory right now I have no need to move apps to SD
but
give me 1 day I will make some tests
seems that Link2SD is the solution but requires the SD to have 2 primary partitions
I will test this today at night

The SD card format generated on first boot will only contain 3 partitions (boot:fat, system:ext4, data:ext4), so it is no longer compatible with the previous CM10.1 SD card. Please use a new card for testing.
The primary SD card storage is now shared (bind/fuse mounted) with the data partition and no longer a separate partition.

Slightly confused by the directions, can you update over an existing 10.1 ? Not sure if you mean a clean install needs a new card only?
I can't say what is best but as it uses a different gapps I chose not to attempt an overwrite 1. I backed up my apps to internal using titanium - 2. Re- imaged the sd card using Win32DiskImager and the img file linked above. 3. Reinstalled the ovation zip and gapps -4. Did initial card setup - 5. reloaded data to apps from titanium.

Since bokbokan's 10.2 and 10.1 use different partition structures (3 vs. 4 partitions), flashing 10.2 on top of existing 10.1 will not work. So you need to start from scratch: use sdcard-ovation-cm10.2-sdv2.img to create the new 3-partition structure then flash ROM and gapps. To do this you don't need to get a new card, unless you want to keep your current 10.1 card intact to fall back to without messing around with backup/restore of 10.1. If you choose to use the existing card, you can backup your current apps and their settings as @Nuor60 suggested above, or you can simply backup the card's whole image using win32diskimager read/save option.
Sounds good, thanks for the helpful response, I think i'll try using nuor's method if I have the space.Actually titanium requires root so maybe not. Can I transfer my apps over to 10.2 from 10.1 without titanium, surely a straight Copy and paste would cause some kind of error?

I have a Nook HD+ with a hybrid install of CM10 (2013-05-12).
Can I do a clean install of this CM 10.2 version on my SD card and run it from there, or will there be a problem due to the CM10 hybrid install data remaining on the EEMC?
So I installed this today by just overwriting the existing image with win32diskimager and so far its running very nicely, smoother than previous version and faster. Thanks a lot for all the hard work on these updates, much appereciated.
Im wondering though was the old version, apps and all the data erased or is it still there somewhere? Mainly ask because I backed up using titanium before install but now when I go to restore there's nothibng to restore. Now the previous version sometimes read my SD card as internal and vice versa so I'm guessing it backed up to my SD card and now its gone? Not a massive deal as play store remembers the apps I had but would be nice to get the data back.

When you overwrite the image on your sd card you're going to lose everything that was on it. If you made a backup with titanium but didn't specify that you wanted to save it to a folder on your internal memory, then you lost that as well. Next time go to preferences in titanium backup and specify a folder on your internal sd card so that when you redo your sd card next time you'll have your apps.

Nook HD+, installed fine using San Disk 32gig class 4. Works fine until power off the tablet. After power off, it boots to stock Nook rom, won't boot the sd card until I re-image it. Re-seated the sd card many times. Am I missing something?

This is my first attempt on HD+, I switched over to 10.1 and can now boot both 10.1 and stock, no problems. This version of 10.2 only boots first time, then fails. Boots straight into stock as if the SD card is no longer bootable.
I tried out the new 10.2 and its performance is so much better than that of the 10.1 builds -- the boot time is shorter and apps' response-times are much snappier.
FWIW the process I used to create the 10.2 card with customized allocation of space amongst partitions is to delete partitions 2-4 on my 10.1 card (which was created using the process described at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=42785708&postcount=118), create two new ext4 partitions /system and /data, then boot to CWM recovery and flash the 10.2 ROM and gapps-jb-20130813 zip files.

I've notice on my HD+ the SD card gets written to after booting and somehow it destroys the boot image. I imagine the HD+ mounts the SD card, sets a FAT and that overwrites the boot. But what do I know? I'm guessing here.

Compared to 10.1 my tablet has its tongue wagging in the breeze. It is not near as smooth as simplegreens last build for 10.1. Who'd ever think a X.2 could be so complicated? Obviously there are some major changes in the core. 4.3 Kind of reminds me of Windows, how running 98 was smooth but XP sux because it was based on the need for higher processor performance.

First off, I'm running a VZW Droid Razr Maxx HD (XT926), CM11 JB/KK 4.4.2 nightly build updates by epinter, rooted with an unlocked bootloader.....
I was trying to save a picture from my browser (Dolphin) to my SD Card and received an "insufficient permissions" notification. I can't even change my default download folder in the browser settings. Gives me the same error. Developer options are enabled. I tried changing the R/W permissions of my SD Card, but that was not successful either.
Question: Anyone know how to fix this? I'm sure it's probably something I'm overlooking and it may have already been addressed on XDA, somewhere, but I can't find it in a search.
Thanks.

Just to elaborate, it's a good idea to track this thread for CM11 dev
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2518701&page=76
I believe the patch went in around the 6th of Dec and was definitely in by the 9th, so any build from 9th onwards should have SD write fixed.
I take the nightly updates. I'm on the current version. Still won't give me option to save to external SD Card, or set it as default download directory.

Have you already try to wipe cache and dalvik? If this not solution your problem, try a full wipe... In my phone everything is working fine... So this problem maybe only with your mobile... MAYBE! Try first wipe cache and Dalvik, if no work, try a full wipe..
Best regards,
Cleiton
Seems that there are still SD write related changes being made, like this one that went into the 16th build.
It might actually be related:

Yeah, I've tried wipes and fix permission and clean installs, best I can determine it's dolphin. I can change storage settings and write to external sdcard in other 3rd party apps. I've notified them.
XT926 CM11
It's a great ROM and most issues that have come up are fixed in a few builds.. For instance the camera.. And the fact that I can move items to and from my external sdcard with the built in file explorer that had root access makes me think again it's just dolphin. I noticed on its permissions it doesn't list read and write to sdcard.
XT926 CM11 4.4.2 nightly build updates
I was running CM11 - All was fine
I changed to SourcE 2.1, full wipe fresh install. - This is a Sense 5.0 ROM
I changed back to CM11 - Restored my backup of CM11 and then updated to latest CM11 nightly
Something is wrong with SD storage. I can't backup in TWRP and th TWRP file manager is one folder up from SD card. I also get an error from the Play store when I try and install a new App: "Error: Couldn't install on USB storage or SD Card."
It seems that the directory isn't aligned or something.
Anyone have any clever ideas? I was advised to try a RUU, but I'm hoping on a simpler fix than that. (also because I'm not sure that it will fix the issue)
Will this do the trick? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2086156

have you tried other ROMs on your phone? even if a ROM download looks complete, a slight interruption in a DL can cause a ROM to not function properly or cause odd weirdness. Id try a fresh download of the same ROM or an Odin flash of a different ROM

You have to format the SD as internal memory.
