I was running CM11 - All was fine
I changed to SourcE 2.1, full wipe fresh install. - This is a Sense 5.0 ROM
I changed back to CM11 - Restored my backup of CM11 and then updated to latest CM11 nightly
Something is wrong with SD storage. I can't backup in TWRP and th TWRP file manager is one folder up from SD card. I also get an error from the Play store when I try and install a new App: "Error: Couldn't install on USB storage or SD Card."
It seems that the directory isn't aligned or something.
Anyone have any clever ideas? I was advised to try a RUU, but I'm hoping on a simpler fix than that. (also because I'm not sure that it will fix the issue)
Will this do the trick? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2086156

I would try putting the stock recovery back on. If I am remembering correctly, I had similar issues and the stock recovery corrected the SD card problem. I then went back to TWRP.

I believe this issue has now been resolved. Thank you for your reply.
I think a CM11 update fixed the issue. Also using CMW recovery now.

Problem
So i was running a slim rom and suddenly my device started rebooting constantly.
What i Tried
Wiping everything (System/Data/Cache/SDCard) booting into recovery and put jellyshot rom zipfiles on the sd card.
What happens now
When i unmount USB and try to flash the new rom, the files (jellyshot rom) aren't on the sdcard. When i mount USB again they also aren't on the card.
I have repeated this constantly and can't make any sense of it.
Is my device "bricked" ?
Thanks in advance.

Basicly whenever i MOUNT USB, delete and add files, the next time i MOUNT USB, the files are back in their original state. Known behaviour?
This is definitely not known behavior. To me it looks like you are getting write permission on the drive once you mount. So it looks to you as if file are getting deleted or files are getting added. But once you unmount/mount again, the changes are not done. It could be a problem with the recovery that you are using. May be try to flash a different recovery in fastboot mode.
Don't you have any other ROM on SD card to flash & boot. If you can boot in to the ROM, then may be you can see if you are able to correctly use SD card and copy a new ROM before you start wiping.
try format your sd from pc

I am able to boot into the rom (with constant errors popping up) and turn on/off usb storage but the effect is the same.
Mount ->Change files ->Unmount -> Mount -> Nothing has changed

Tried that to no effect.
Mount -> Format -> Unmount -> Mount -> All the files are there again...
No Mobile Network or USB Connection!!!
Hey I am pretty new to rooting but I have a major problem. I recently rooted my Samsung Nexus 4G, flashed clock work mod recovery and installed a version of Jelly Bean I found in on some website. But my problem is that I began to have problems with the version of Jelly Bean I download so I tried to flash back to stock but something went horribly wrong. Now my phone does not have mobile network and when I connect it to a computer, the computer will not recognize it. Bluetooth, WiFi and SD Card still works but I cannot find a way to get my Mobile Network to come back. Please Help!!
I'll install SDK, Odin, put the phone in download mode and flash a factory image. Just saying

Hey! I had a similar problem with my i9023. I couldn't Access my files through the PC after flashing slim beam. I downloaded JellyShot and marmite kernel with my device, without using PC. Then i found those files in sdcard/download, flashed with no problems. Everything seemes to be ok now.

Hi, I've been trying to hunt down an answer to my problem with no avail, hopefully someone here can help. I've a rooted Huawei y300 0100 back on factory stock again.
My problem is this after I rooted (went fine first time doing this) installed TWRP created backups, Flashed Fusion x rom no problems at all, found a few bugs thought I would try another ROM, restored my stock from twrp saved backups all good I thought...
Upon re entering recovery everything is fine, factory wipe etc then when it comes to installing any ROM I get the message E: cannot open zip. This happens on any ROM I try, so I know its not the file, file can also be opened on PC and phone explorer.I've formatted the external SD card and re-downloaded ROMs still nowt.
I would just use the stock again and run a new launcher and delete the bloat myself but I can't get Orbit working at all now I'm rooted and back on factory stock when it was working fine on fusionx and orbit/Pandora are pretty much what I did all this for
Any ideas would be appriecated as I'm pretty noobish at this.
Would installing cwm over the top of twrp work?
Do I need to do a special kind of wipe in case of file corruption?
Solved, after some fiddling got flashing working again. What worked for me was to redownload the file direct to internal SD and flashing from there. Downloading anywhere else ie PC or ext SD and copying across still gave same error. Not sure why but I've flashed 3 ROMs today without issue this way. Hope this helps anyone else who encounters this.

ABSOLUTELY confirmed. I was trying it for days. After finding this post, direct downloading to sdcard worked for me.

yeeah... thank you bro
I also had problems with "unable to open zip file" and "bad" errors, seemed to be fixed by formatting a spare 4gb MicroSD to FAT and making sure it was the first thing copied to the SD card. I was using PHILZ recovery, but I'd assume that TWRP will work just as well. I have a suspicion it may have something to do with file fragmentation or maybe allocation block size. Before this I checked MD5SUMs on a few MicroSD cards and they were all perfect, so it wasn't a download or copy corruption, the bootloader just has an issue with the file or filesystem for some reason.
Can confirm. Was having trouble installing Boeffla 3.0 kernal on gnabo 4.4.2 (v8). ( samsung galaxy note 10.1 n801x / n8013 )
Deleted the zips I downloaded, then re-downloaded straight to zip. installed like a boss!
Thanks!
This is a most underrated thread.
Just had the same issue with my old Galaxy S3. Needed to copy the zip directly to internal storage via mtp in twrp.
In newer twrp version it shows zip file corrupt instead of unable to open zip.
I've installed CM13 on my device (somehow managed). But the only recovery I can use is CM. I don't know why but I can't seem to find any 'CWM' or 'TWRP' recovery on the net that actually works with my fine?
And besides, I've tried to install Gapps but even the smallest file just wont install. I just get the Error Code 70 and not sufficient storage.
Please try keep your answers simple
Same thing happeneed to me in XT1033. Can someone say if there is any other way to install gapps rather than using CM recovery ?
I managed to find a TWRP recovery that did finally work and I've used the nano file.
But has anyone got a cwm revivers? (Or something that works with ROM manager?)
And I've got some new problems,
First of all when putting my SD in, if I select to use it as internal memory, it formats the card and it says the card is ready to use but as soon as I try to move apps it crashes. If I go to storage it says the SD is corrupted, however it works fine as external memory. I had partitioned it and used it on stock fine with Link2SD
Secondly, whenever I try to set a wallpaper from gallery, I get a pop saying "Trebuchet has stopped" so I'm unable to set my own wallpaper from gallery. Anyone got anything?
BTW I'm running on CM13 the latest ROM
Also can not download anything through Chrome, tried Firefox but same issue.
"download failed due to missing sd card".
Started to happen after I flashed a custom ROM, but still persists after flashing a different ROM.
could be the rom
try clearing cache for "downloads", "download manager", "play store", "media storage".
also if you have a memory card go to memory and storage, change default location to whatever is not set (i.e if its on internal, set on sd card, if its on sd card set on internal)
restart, and try again.
what rom are you on?
also flashing on the mate is a pain in the rear, sometimes certain partitions can get messed up as theyre linked, make sure you on the same base as the rom before flashing it.
goodluck!

Thank you so much!
I changed the default download location from internal to SD card and it now works flawlessly.
The ROM I originally flashed(that's when the problem started) was the RomAur v1.3.1 02/04, now I'm on the latest version v1.4 12/04 but that didn't matter.
Also, after solving the problem I tried reverting back to the internal storage and try to download a file again, and the same issue happened.
I guess I can't download to internal storage now, though, so that sucks...

I am rooted, but I did not flash a decrypt boot img, how do I do that?
Hello there,
I was in the middle of installing recovery, root and a custom ROM on my SM-T210 (Galaxy Tab 3 7"), when the title happened. I don't think the issue is device related though, so that's why I'm posting here.
I have StockRom Kitkat Version 1.7 (not the stock rom, that's just what it's called) installed at the moment, but I didn't like it so I wanted to go for Supernova (2.1) and flash that. This would've worked if TWRP didn't suddenly stop being able to see my files in internal storage...
My device isn't encrypted so that's not the issue. Does anyone have any idea what is going on?
Hello,
Make sure you are mounting system and data
Make sure zip files type is selected and not IMG files
Try moving to SD card and try to see if it's there if you have one
Reflash twrp -make sure it's the latest twrp-
Then boot into it, flash rom

Thank you very much sir, using an SD card did it for me! TWRP was already the newest one I could use so that wasn't an option, the other 2 tips I also already tried.
