Accidentally Uninstalled 2 Facebook-related Apps That Made Oculus Store Stuck !! - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I've read somewhere that those two apps "com.facebook.system" & "com.facebook.appmanager" can be safely uninstalled if Facebook was not needed.
So I removed them since they don't have disable option.
Then, I came across Oculus Store only to find out it needs them in order to work !!
Now, Oculus wants to update by restoring Facebook's AppManager but the problem is that it can't complete the update process which made me stuck in there!
Could someone please upload those 2 apps for me so I can reinstall them? I'm on Lollipop 5.1.1
Or maybe something else could fix this thing?
Your help would definitely save me.
Thanks a lot!
Cheers,
Salaam

Had the same problem in my Note 5,
Assuming you're running stock odex, download any deodexed rom in your custom roms section of this forum, extract the required two apk files, and place them in app/ and priv-app/ as placed by default.
Reboot once and use the phone for a while. Deodexed apk will not work in your rom, but it will trigger the silent updates to install the updated version in data/app and you will see it shortly when you open application manager from settings.
Reboot afterwards and clear Dalvik-Cahe.

I couldn't find them in any rom since they get installed once plugging the Gear VR in for the first time!
So, I uninstalled Oculus & Oculus Home apps then re-plugged the Gear and Oculus installer started to download them back.
Once finished, Oculus Store opened normally and the problem was finally gone !!

[Q] Unable to install apps from Play Store

Hello,
Post rooting (repenting it already) my Samsung Galaxy S Plus (GTI9001), I am unable to install any apps via Play Store. I am able to install apk's from the SD Card though. I un-rooted the phone but problem persist.
When I try to install any app, I can see the app being downloaded on the notification but the moment the download completes nothing happens. When i go to Play Store > My Apps I could see that it still says downloading though the app is fully downloaded. I guess some permission issues here. Please help.
I have already cleared Play Store cache and tried.

Hello,
Which Rom do you use? Maybe you have to root it again. Usually you can fix permissions in CWM. Have you tried to restart after "Download is finished". For Me it was working on my Asus EeePad.

Chris, I am still on stock ROM and I am not likely to go for a custom ROM since there are not much good ROM's available for Samsung Galaxy S Plus and Yes I tried multiple reboots. After reboot, on the notification it says that app download failed due to some error with a number.
Thanks for your reply.
Same issue
Reyolin,
I have had the same problem on my Samsung Galaxy S Plus but it has only started today. Mine has been rooted for about 5 months now, since I first got it.
I did a search using EStrong File explorer and it found a file called "downloadfile.apk" in /cache (I assume this is the file as it is the same file size as stated in the Play store. However, when I tried to run or copy it it had disappeared.
It's almost like the APK is being downloaded and then being deleted before installation actually occurs.
I think rooting your phone and the inability to install apps is just coincidental.
I will do some more playing about and see what I can find (I also already tried removing the Google Play updates (to go back to the old style Market). This still did not solve the problem.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions &

Exactly same proble
Hi,
I have exaclty the same problem (galaxy s plus), rooted 5 month ago and problem started 2 days ago...
I updated superuser at that time and tried to update the su binarie but it fails on validation of new su and stopped (not replacing old su), this is the only thing I can remember of. root is still working with old su. Maybe the cleaning needs to be done ?
Has someone found a way to fix this?
edit:
after some investigation, this is what happens:
if I try to install one app from play store, it is downloaded correctly and then nothing happens.
the file downloaded is in /cache/downloadfile.apk
If I copy this file to /sdcard/external_sd/downloadfile.apk and run it manually it installs correctly.

galaxy s plus specific issue
i am having the same problem since morning and i also use Samsung galaxy s plus, so certainly the issue is phone specific.
Good news! Problem solved for me
Hi,
I contacted google play support and her was there answer:
Thanks for contacting us and I am sorry for the delay in responding.
We've gotten some reports that users with Samsung Galaxy S Plus devices running Android OS version 2.3 (Gingerbread) are having trouble using Google Play. We're aware of this issue and to solve it we recommend you to uninstall updates to the Google Play app by following these steps:
1. Tap Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage applications
2. Find the "All" tab
3. Scroll down to Play Store and tap to select
4. Tap "Uninstall updates"
Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.
So I followed this and it works again!
Here are the steps after doing google recommendations:
- click google play icon, it will open old google market
- install an application, for me it worked again!
- exit google market
- click again the google play icon, it will ask to accept google play license
- click yes and then try to install another app, it worked again!
Hope this will solve also your issues,
Stef
I Just had the same problem. Here is how I fixed it,
- Uninstalled updates for Google Play
- I added a New Google Account.
- I Then signed into the new Google Account, Then Sign Into Your Main Account
And "BOOM" problem solved.

[Q] Reinstall "Samsung Apps" possible?

Hey Guys,
i got a little Problem with "Samsung Apps" on my Galaxy s6 (Stock Rom Android 5.0.2).
I rooted it, and thougt i should delete some of the System Apps. I also removed "Samsung Apps" thinking i won't need it.
After i wanted to download some Camera features i got the error : "com.sec.android.app.samsungapps is disabled", but i can't enable it ( yeah, maybe beacause its gone)
So i tried reinstalling it, using the Apk from this thread :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4/themes-apps/hot-galaxy-s6-apps-t3041330
not functioning "Can't install the App"
also i tried getting the apk from the Stock "app" folder or "priv app" of the system dump, and copying the folders on my S6 device (to the same path)
http://zidroid.com/download-samsung-galaxy-s6-g920fxxu1aobn-system-dump/
still not able to reinstall. Reboot didn't change anything.
So last but not least, a factory reset didn't work either.
It has cleared everything and set the device to default settings etc, but "samsung Apps" is still not listed anywhere.
The question: does anyone have a clue how to reinstall it ? or do i have to download the Stock Image and flash it ?
Thanks for your time

I think the proper section for this would be the Q&A forum. Anyway, if you copy the app make sure to set the right permissions. In any case, if you flash a stock image over the one you have now, the problem should be solved. If it's not solved, a factory reset after that should fix it.

Ok thanks for the hint with the permissions.
I used der folder /system/priv-app/
and copied the Galaxy_Apps_3xh_zero.apk to my S6 path.
installing still wasn't working after setting the permissions ro rw-r-r- (like the other working apps)
i'm not sure, but i think it's something like an autostart path, so rebooting the phone after these steps, fixed my problem.
thread can be closed or whatever

Updating Play Services to 8.1.x, reverts to 7.8.99 on reboot 0_o

This is driving me crazy. I tried updating to Google Play Services 8.1.14 so I can try Android Pay. I can install the apk, and it seems to work fine. However, when I reboot I'm always back to GPS 7.8.99.
I uninstalled Android Wear, Android Pay, etc. I turned on airplane mode, reverted all GPS updates (puts it on 6.x), installed the 8.1.14 apk, and when I reboot.... still on 7.8.99!
Yes, I am using the correct built (-238). I am on stock/rooted/s-off 5.0.1 w/ root turned off in SuperSU. If anyone has any clue whats happening here, let me know!
Okay, so it looks like I solved my own problem. I reenabled root and UNINSTALLED Google Play Services via Titanium, then installed 8.1.14, and it seems to have stuck. I still have no clue why the update was reverting, but... whatever. Hopefully this helps someone in the future if they have the same issue.
Disregard my last, that was not successful. Smart Lock disappeared, and my Trust Agents page was blank with no obvious fix. I did a clean install w/ the latest stock/rooted RUU, and updated straight to services 8.1.14 apk, which worked fine (ncluding smart lock). Until...
Until an 8.1.15 auto-update. Which put me right back into the same revert on reboot loop, except now it would update to 8.1.15 a couple minutes after ever boot, and then revert to 8.1.14 every reboot.
I sorta narrowed down the problem... The 8.1.14 update I installed manually via apk resided at /data/app/com.google.android.gms-1
Every time I rebooted, it created a NEW folder and redownloaded 8.1.15 to to those folders, named com.google.android.gms-2, com.google.android.gms-3, com.google.android.gms-4, etc.
I'm assuming this is exactly what it was doing before i wiped, except 7.8.99 was installed to the com.google.android.gms-1 folder which it always reverts to.
The fix was simple: delete com.google.android.gms-1... rename com.google.android.gms-2 to com.google.android.gms-1. Delete all the extra copies.
If anyone could explain this behaviour, I would love to hear. This seems like a pretty big bug, I'm not sure if it's related to the (stock) rom or a bug with the 8.1.x google play services.
here is your fix

this was a few pages back on this section. You basically need to change the owner of '/data/app' to the system. Post 7 has the adb commands or use root explorer or some other app to change all folder and subs.

:victory: Some times my searching skills aren't up to snuff. I thought my issue was specific to play services, so this didn't come up. This is good to know, and should be added to the RUU thread!

I would agree about adding to ruu thread, however, i cannot enforce that. I know some of the newer ROMS might support that like fluent 6.1 i believe does, and santod latest debloat i have not had any of those issues with those.
No issues here. What I did was let it download gmscore, then I cut and pasted base.apk and lib (from data/app) to system/priv-app/GmsCore (deleting preeviois GmsCore.apk and lib first) and renamed to GmsCore.apk - then reboot.
Id try this.

APK install fail, package name conflict.

Hi guys,
I have been trying to install the latest release of Xperia Home (11.0.A.0.1) from apkmirror but I'm getting an error:
App not installed.
The package conflicts with an existing package by the same name.
I've done some digging and found the same issue with the Samsungs. AllSmokeEm provided a solution (toggling secure startup settings) but I don't believe we have this option in Sonys.
I have a sneaky feeling that it has to do with the last security patch I've installed a few days ago (41.2.A.7.65), because I never had this issue before!
Thanks for the help.

I am using the latest update, the one you tried. I didn't have any problem upon installing it since I am a beta user so I get it from Update Center. I suggest you subscribe to the Xperia™ Home Open Beta community in Google+ to get updated. But if you don't like but still want to install the laest home, I see that there are two 11.0.A.0.1 files in apkmirror. Try the other one, you might be able to install it.

Thank you very much for the help, it worked! I'll have a look in the beta community.
Thanks again.
Dear Friend. I had the same issue. The solution comes with root: Go to /system/priv-app/home-sonyericsson-release and rename the apk that exist in folder, copy the downloaded home and put the same name that original ones. Give the permission 755 ( -rwxr-xr-x ) and just to void some error perform the cache clean from the app . Search for "tela inicial Xperia" ( "initial Screen Xperia" or something like this ). After that, restart the device. Now you are using the last home version with no app drawer icon!
Package name conflict

[root] Playing around and accidentally uninstalled the play store - how to undo?

So, this is my first time rooting a phone, and once I managed to get it to work, I started playing around to see what capabilities I had now.
In doing this, I uninstalled the play store. I've tried multiple methods to reinstall it, but none have worked so far.
I've tried installing a new play store apk and used systemize to turn it into a system app, but that didn't work (the app crashed on launch)
I've also tried using link2sd but the app wouldn't let me convert to system app.
If anyone else has any tips for me I'd be grateful.
Using a samsung running android 11 - rooted with magisk, recovery method.
Copy it from another device using ApkExport then transfer the installable copy over to the victim device and install.
I haven't tried it with Playstore but it works on other apks even if the donor device is on a different Android OS version.

sadly the only other device i have is a samsung galaxy S2 that is barely functional. I doubt that'll work.
Before you do anything I'd make sure you have a good backup of your device. Copy text messages, contacts, photos, etc all to external storage.
My first thought was just download install APK, but I see you've done that.
Someone else may have a better suggestion, but, if nothing else works, I'd try installing pico GApps to restore Playstore functionality.

I copied apks from a S4 running on Kitkat to my Note 10+. If it loads Playstore will need to update, that may be a problem... or not.

Yeah it's a system app on my Note 10+, can't be uninstalled*.
Normally it doesn't crash although it's common for it to not connect to Playstore. It does that if Google play Services is disable but even then it doesn't crash.
* I think, it has a disable option but to find out if there's an uninstall I would need to revert to the factory load first... which isn't something I want. It appears to be as I originally stated.

there is no uninstall option. I uninstalled it through other means as my phone is rooted. Now I'm having issues re-installing it and getting it to work.
My last 2 cents here:
Per definition only apps that are needed by Android OS to work are called system apps and are stored in /system/apps. Other apps - called 3rd-party apps like Google Play Store - may be stored in /system/priv-apps.
BTW:
If you manually install Google Play Store APK then it installs to /data/app directory - as expected.
