I installed custom recovery on the Nvidia Shield Tablet K1 (TWRP) and can't boot into recovery or install updates. Any suggestions?
Which version of TWRP? And which version of Android? The bootloader differs between Android 5 and 6. Twrp versions need matching bootloaders
I have the same problem on my k1(android 6). I already tried to flash an other recovery but i can't find a working one. Even the original recovery (downloaded from nvidia's site) doesn't work.

if you're on MM, you need the Experimental 2.8.7.1 by Steel01 or unofficial 3.0.0-0 by Romracer.
The official TWRP does not work with the new MM Bootloader

Will that work even with the K1?
unofficial 3.0.0-0 by Romracer works for me

Hey, just wanted to know if I can just install TWRP after updating to10.6.1.14.4 build (US). Deets:
1. Latest ASUS bootloader installed (never messed with it or other ROMs)
2. UnlockedDL
sbdags has some stuff on the stock ROM, but I haven't tweaked/deodexed anything, so I'm not sure it applies to my stock ROM? Can't I just download TWRP and fastboot install it? Tĥanks!

If your device already unlocked and you can be on 4.1.1 OR 4.2.1 (10.6.1.14.4 build), it's ok to install latest TWRP 2.5.0.0.
Thanks guys. I installed TWRP and I'm now rooted.
So when I got my k1 yesterday it was on 5.1.1. I unlocked the bootloader and also flashed twrp and rooted. I then let the ota file download and then I tapped on flash, it then rebooting into twrp and flashed it. My k1 rebooted with 6.0 then, but my root was gone. I tried to reboot into twrp to reinstall SuperSU and it seemed like the 6.0 erased twrp somehow. I have been trying to flash twrp 2.8.7.3 with the command fasboot flash recovery twrp.img. Once I flash it and try to reboot into recovery it just stays on the nvidia splash screen. So what can I do to be able to get twrp on my k1 with 6.0 on it?
Not entirely sure, but I think you're going to have to wait for an update to TWRP for MM. I think recoveries are BL dependent, and I believe the BL did in fact update with the recent upgrade to Android M.

Oh Ok lol
I installed TWRP. It was supposed to be TWRP 2.8.6.0, but it is 2.8.5.0. Today, I just backed up my tablet with it. After using TWRP, my tablet boots up 6 times faster and the UI functions twice as fast as it did before. Overall, my tablet got better after running TWRP. So, what did it do? Also, I want to flash Lollipop. Can I do that with this version?
I don't know what twrp did to your tablet. If you want to flash a lollipop or a marshmallow rom however you should use this version of twrp : http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...overy-team-win-recovery-project-twrp-t3464050
And use one of theses rom :
lollipop : http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-2/galaxy-tab-2-unified/rom-cyanogenmod-12-cm12-t2997934
Marshmallow (recommended) : http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-2/galaxy-tab-2-unified/rom-cyanogenmod-13-cm13-0-t3303798

twrp manage all general functions before the android system completely started. you can compare twrp with the bios system on your pc.
if you want install the latest roms, you should upgrade your twrp to the latest unofficial common version (3.0.2-6). you can find it here: http://andi34.github.io/recoveries_tab2.html

For example, I can't install this ROM. https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=529141701856461698
When I install this ROM, the system doesn't boot
But I can install this ROM. https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934523996
So what's the problem?

I want to install newer unified ROMs, but I can't install anything for Unified , I can only install device specific ROM and TWRP
If I install anything for "Unified espresso" (ROM, TWRP, Kernel etc.), the system will not boot, but if I install anything for device specific, the system will boot successfully

I just downloaded Cyanogenmod 13 (device specific). Does this kernel work with device-specific ROMs? If it works, I'll try to flash the latest Unified TWRP first. If it works, I'll install the Unified ROMs.
The second question is, can I install cm 13 without factory reset(on CM 11)

1. i think there is no need for the special kernel on device specific roms. keep in mind that device specific builds wont be supported and wont get updates amymore.
2. no, you cant upgrade from cm11 to cm13 without factory reset. clean install is needed

You can install unified twrp (or any other version of twrp) without installing the kernel. The rom and the kernel you have installed are completely independent of the twrp recovery. If you want to install a unified rom with a custom kernel you must first install unified twrp, then clean flash the rom and after that flash the kernel.

I have an oneplus 6 with official OSS 5.1.5 and TWRP installed. But after OTA update my phone to OSS 5.1.6, i cannot boot to TWRP anymore. Is TWRP gone after OTA update? My OEM unlocking still unlocked.
Have u not read anything in these forums, tutorials or anything?

Hi, just to clarify when you install an OTA on the oneplus 6 it uses the new partitioning system which is different so to remedy the situation just try reflashing TWRP enchilada installer using fastboot.

Previously, i've installed Beta(unofficial) version of TWRP, now i want to re-install TWRP with Official version , do i need to remove or do something firstly?
To fix it just download the official TWRP for oneplus 6 from the official team win recovery project page and then you put that on your phone, and flash using your currently installed TWRP then after that make sure you also install the root package as installing the new version of TWRP will modify the new boot image, Also a good time to mention that it will install in both slots (Seamless update slots) Treble slots if you will just to be aware.

Just follow one of the many upgrade guides. Skip the part about upgrading to 5.1.6 but for the rest follow the steps exactly. No need to explain all this in yet another thread imo. You'll need a pc though.
that's would be great if twrp can be flashed and stays there without wiping as well as root.
Pleasssseeeeee read before creating a new thread

You can't boot into twrp because it's not there anymore. The OTA created a completely stock version of the OS that you're now booted on. You need to reinstall twrp and magisk according to the posted guides. This is going to be the case with all OTAs. The stock updater looks for root, and when it's there, it installs a complete OS, not an incremental update.
