Display is extremely fragile... - X Style (Pure) General

So, after 1 month with this phone it fell from my pants pocket and display was damaged, glass didn't break but display is totally ruined so I can't use it anymore. Case + Tempered glass didn't do anything to protect it.
I can't believe this, before this phone I had a Huawei G7 and fell countless times to the floor, even in the water and not even a single crack in it.
Be carefull with this phone, just an advice.
Here's a vid from SquareTrade testing this phone and showing how fragile it is (thanks bw03 for sharing it)

It has Gorilla Glass 3 so that kind of surprises me.

I know, had worse accidents with other phones and never had a broken display.

Knock on wood, I've been lucky.
Have dropped my phone like six times now, all onto concrete or tile from about waist height.
No issues yet, knock on wood.
It's got a flimsy super thin case that does not protect the corners but so far I guess it's fallen the right way.

I've dropped my phone several time as well. No issues. Its more luck (or lack thereof) of the drop than anything.

Dropped mine about 3 times from shirt pocket so about a 4-5 ft drop concrete tile and hardwood floor no scratches no breaks...

My girlfriend dropped mine and it got a bunch of cracks and now I have to use otg and a mouse to use it

I have made insurance in case of breaking the Display for 25 euros.....

I wish I had an insurance before, god damn it was the 1st time I dropped mine

insurance here in brazil is about BRL500, something about 120US$, so i'd rather stay safe :B
That being said, this slippery fella right here has already fallen a couple of times, only some hard-to-notice scratches on the case, tempered glass not broke yet.

I forgot to mention I went full bore on mine got maxed out memory wood back and insurance... Main reason why it is not rooted yet...

Dropped mine more times than I care to remember.
TPU case, absolutely no issues in about 6 months of ownership.

This is nothing new. See here:

Whoa man, wish I had that info before, thanks for sharing
You're all warned now, get yourselves a good case because my TPU didn't protect it

Now that I think, My TPU case only protected the glass (it didnt break, not a single scratch) but it didn't absorb the impact to protect the display

I don't know if they make the rhino case for our phone but I got a kick out of this video.

Bought this after my Xperia fell from maybe a foot and a half and completely shattered. That same phone fell out of my hands at a train station and was subsequently kicked by a passer by (accidentally, not maliciously) and came through completely unscathed. Was in the same case in both instances. Sometimes it hits at just the perfect angle that there's no hope.
That SquareTrade review worries me a bit...

I kneeled down to pet a small dog and my jacket pockets inverted. The phone fell about 24 inches onto dirt and the edge of the screen snapped. All the screens breaking on this phone is not a case of bad luck. The screen's rim is clearly not designed correctly. It's shorter than the glass and smaller in diameter than the chassis - totally useless. Check any other phone, even the cheap Chinese phones, and you'll find that a flat surface can not touch the glass or the chassis next to the glass.
I'm mad now because this is clearly going to happen again and it's $150 each time. I'm thinking about not repairing it and buying another brand. No wonder there are no accessories or development for this phone. Most people are staying clear of it.

Sorry for your bad luck on the drop, but have you even looked in the development thread?

Mine fell out of my pocket when I was getting out of the car. It's pretty low so it was probably a 2-3ft drop onto the concrete. It shattered and the right half of the touch screen stopped working. I couldnt find a complete white assembly with the frame besides some obscure website where it was out of stock for who knows how long. I had to buy just the screen and glass itself. It was very difficult to take the broken screen out of the frame and glue the new one in. If I was able to get a complete assembly the repair would be very easy.

i would recommend getting a screen protector. the first week i got mine, my little brother decided to get a hold of it and chuck it across my room. i got a huge gash due to it landing face down and sliding on the hardwood floor. two days after that i dropped it from about 2.5 feet up and my glass cracked. i was so excited when i found out how expensive replacing it is. (ie: about $200-$400), i now have replaced my glass and put a screen protector on

Screen protectors don't protect from drops AFAIK. I got mine like 2 months ago and no protection used, not scratched yet. I used my captivate for over a year the same way and I only had ONE scratch because I was stupid enough to put it in the same pocket as my keys.
I've had mine for about 4 months now. No scratches/cracks. I handle my phones carefully, though. It always goes in my back pocket, away from other objects, and I take it out when I sit down.
Bought my phone the first day they were released.
It has a tiny 1/2" long scratch. Barely visible, but it's there. I accidentally put it in my pocket with car keys. Don't normally do that. But I didn't notice for about 30 minutes while it was in there and I was moving around a lot.
I removed my screen protector about 3 weeks ago because i hate how it easily get finger prints. I love the feel of the glass and it doesnt get any scratch even if i put it in my pocket a lot..

I was going to leave my skyrocket bare until I read all of the reports from other users about how the Gorilla Glass is less prone to break but can scratch very easily. So I had Ghost Armor at the mall put a protector on my screen. Two weeks later, my wife threw me a set of house keys while I was reading an email and they landed right on the screen. The protector took a beating. I had it replaced for $5 and the screen is still perfect.
It's a compromise. I'd rather have it bare, but you take a chance that an accident will happen.
The skyrocket doesn't have gorilla glass.
Mine is cool. It has a dedicated pocket though.

I put my case and shield on when i think it may be good to have for the day, but most often when i go out drinking.
I've had my white Skyrocket since mid December and so far I don't have a mark on my screen. I can't stand screen protectors and within a day I had pushed the one in my case out. I do keep it in a pocket by itself though.
I bought it in December, and since then, I installed this case. It's pretty decent, no problems so far.
Mine has a dedicated pocket as well.. pretty good way to keep it safe. Owned mine since november, and it has one small scratch about 2 cm long that is only visible with the screen off and holding the phone as a certain angle.. not bad. Not as scratch resistant as my captivate though I'd say.
since early Dec. no screen protection. no scratches. never put it in my jeans pocket with anything other than paper stuff.

I jumped a good 9 foot tall fence on monday (i'm hispanic) and on the very top on the way over, my naked, unscreenprotected bab..skyrocket fell out of my athletic shorts pocket onto a concrete sidewalk hitting it usb port side first. I thought i was screwed but when i picked it up, not a scratch on the unshattered screen and the SR was all good to go besides quite a bit of scuffs on the bottom. see pics:

You just HAD to add the part where your hispanic and jumping a fence... didn't you.
I usually have my phone in a case and screen protector, but it feels so sleek without the case, so I took it off. <3
I want to take off the screen protector (removable/reusable/washable screen protector), but I know the second I do, I'll end up scratching it.

im pretty sure i know that, but in my case it helped from the glass going everywhere. when i replaced my screen, i took my screensaver off and the glass went with it. so there you go, sorry i didnt put it in enough context.

It dropped out of his pocket when he sat down at a table. Fell about 2 feet onto a cement floor. Seems to have hit the corner.

Moral of the story don't buy a Samsung doh. Lol sorry Samsung police had to take a joke. That royally socks!!
That sux. Great promo ad for Samsung's durability lol!
I didn't know these Samsungs crack so easily after seeing some video drop tests where the S6 Edge did pretty good. I guess it depends where they hit. Something about a phone sandwiched between 2 sides of glass makes me wonder though.
T-Mobile is back ordered and Assurant wont have stock for a few weeks. The two Samsung reps weren't much help. They didn't know what the cost would be or how long they'd need it.
Make sure you keep these phones in a case, lol.
Ouch, just stick it in a case and never take it out, and pretend its not waterproof anymore.
Its like holding a stick of butter.

Gorilla glass 4 not 5.
Also gorilla glass can't make glass into metal, it can only harden it a bit (usually against scratches) dropping it on concrete still will shatter it (incidentally it would have scratched and bent metal most likely).
I don't like glass on the backs of phones, but it's better then metal for some things (wireless charging). I prefer high quality plastic but the market says it's not 'premium' enough, so we get glass or metal.

Wear and tear off screen and tear glass

Hey guys, I know the phone has only been released a week ago, but has anyone started to see any scuff marks on their phone? Interested to see for those who are rocking their phone naked if they've managed to get any scuff or scratch marks on the rear glass or screen yet?

It's not easy to scuff glass... I have a nearly 6 months old galaxy note 5 (same glass construction as the s7) that's still perfect.
I kept the plastic on the front and back of my phone and my girlfriends phone until we got home. Put a front screen protector on both immediately.
Kept the plastic on the back of my phone until my case came in. No scratches on mine.
My girlfriend apparently doesn't care about her phone scratching as much...But will nag me to death if I forget to wipe off the bathroom sink smh...
She took the plastic off the back of her phone after it started peeling, still no case (Because she can't decide on one), and her front screen protector is peeling up already. No scratches yet but if anyone's going to scratch it....will be her.

So many ways I want to respond to this...
1st: Murphy's Law dictates that hers will remain in perfect shape with no protection, and yours will be scratched all over.
2nd: Perhaps your girlfriend is trying to suggest that she prefers things naked?

So far mine has been doing pretty well. I've dropped a few times on various surfaces with no scratches to the screen or back. I did manage to get a small ding in the corner where it landed on a concrete patio, but that is on the metal frame. The glass is still pristine. I've been quite impressed actually.
Thanks for the reply so far guys. I've been watching reviews and durability tests on YouTube and it looks like the screen can take a good beating and still come out perfectly fine. The back glass on the other hand, people seem to be finding that it is scuffing and scratching up a lot easier than the screen. I know that the specs say gorilla glass 4 on the front and back but I'm curious to know why the back glass isn't fairing as well.

Who's rocking their s7e without any tempered glass and or case?

Had a case since buying this phone because it's all glass. Never put a case or tempered glass on any of my LG phones but that's because they were plastic but they did handle quite a few drops. Who here is rocking theirs naked? This phone is too beautiful to cover it up. Any of you have dropped an broken it? If so from what height?

Have you dropped on accident before?
The only reason I have a clear back case for mine is because if I don't, my fat fingers touch the edge of the screen and make it near impossible to operate...
I'm pretty careful, but have dropped it onto a tiled floor a couple of times from ~1m with no damage.
Nope. Luck us with me.
I used my s6edge without a case for 1 year and a half...dropped it 4 times total and no damage at the screen or the back just few scufs here and there...a lot of mini scratches but those are invisible unless you put it on the sunlight...currently using my s7edge with a plastic cover...im asfraid to use it without althought this cover makes it look like sh*t..
I have only the clear case which came with it when it was purchased. Swiped it off a table a week ago and everything is working fine. Carrying it in my trouser pocket every day and no scratches on the screen.
I don't buy a beautiful and slim phone like S7 edge to hide it behind a case that makes it fat again !...
... but I broke the screen once and the back twice, which costs an eye to get repaired
Well, it didn't break each time it fell on stone at least !
I bought the original samsung leather case but i used it for less than a month ahah
Oh and i freaking hate screen protectors and even more tempered glass protectors

That's what I say lol this phone is too sexy to be covered up lol from how high did it fall? On YouTube drop test it withstood from like 10 feet.
I am rocking with my s7 edge without tempered glass and cover / case since 6 months and it is fine
Using mine without screen protector, and got some small scratches (nothing really noticable, or deep). I'm also using a ~8$ silicone case.
Ima scared too.
Almost been a year now
I haven't used a screen protector or case on any of my flagship devices for the past 8 years or so, and I buy a new one every year.
Screen protectors ruin the look and feel of the gorgeous display. And cases are just ugly and bulky.
And yes I've dropped mine, many times, sometimes onto concrete from pocket height. Very minor dent on the edge. Not smashes or cracks.
I use cases only when i go out with my bike, as i have to mount on bike for SHealth.. droped mine on sunday and got a crack on top, i was on phone call when phone droped, if the phone was naked I beleive the phone couldnt survive only with small crack.. btw on daily basis i dont use any case or screen protector.

I have seen plenty of broken screens and would recommend to anyone to put a case on their $800 device.
Had a s6 edge dropped from my hands when i tried to put it into my pouch style case. Staright down to the floor and the screen cracked terribly. Bad luck i guess now we have two s7 edges both with stock clear view and lcd view cases dropped several times but on carpets with no damage.
i use only a silicon bumper without screen protector from almost 6 monts now, the screen is alright
I use my s7 edge without any protection since 9 months and it's all fine.

Question Display Issues?

Hi,
I have been using the 7 pro since the day it launched. Out of nowhere, last week, I saw a blackish patch on the left side of my display. One week later, it is spreading like a virus and taking more area of the screen. Posting pictures here. Any idea what may have caused this.
I reached out to Google, and they are sending in a replacement. I was just wondering if someone else came across such a problem
Thank you

Could that be caused by dirt or debris getting up in there? That seems a little more significant than maybe a group of dead pixels. Regardless to me it seems pretty serious and not something that a soft reset would fix.
Looks like Purity, the black oil/cancer alien virus from the X-Files
Pretty sure I've seen this on someone else's device but don't recall if the cause was discovered.
That is caused by a break in the internal LCD structure. It can happen from a drop - especially with a device having curved glass! The curve might put the internal LCD at bigger risk of breaking depending on the overall display construction (both internal and external).
I'm more surprised by this happening without the exterior glass breaking or cracking at all. I guess the new Gorilla Glass Victus is stronger than I had anticipated. Perhaps the Pixel 7 series phones really got the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 glass (although it says that it just got "Gorilla Glass Victus" on the Google Store page). I say this because the Pixel 6 series of phones had the same glass, however, could very easily gather visible scratches (for example, my jeans could leave a visible scuff LOL). But my P7P hasn't gotten any visible scuffs or scratches at all yet - which has left me wondering what was changed in its supposedly identical glass sides.

Best of luck with the replacement device! But overall, it just seems like you need to be extra careful with modern technology nowadays. Companies out there seems to be building stuff that is easier to break or degrades faster in order for them to stay more profitable over time =/.
I miss the days where the companies used to compete to see who could build the device that lasted the longest...especially considering the fact that I never use screen protectors or cases on my phones and so one drop would cost me an arm, a leg and a kidney...haha
Yeah I see it
I got the replacement device. And they said if there is no physical damage outside, there will be no charge. There is not any damage, and honestly it did not fell as well in the last one month. Just once when I got the device. and nothing happened that time.
