I am thinking of getting Google VR Cardboard but don't know if it is compatible with Moto G3 since the device doesn't have gyroscope sensor.
So is there anyone out there who is using this VR Headset with Moto G3 ?
There are very few apps that use the compass and accelerometer instead of the gyroscope like this one: Space VR demo for Cardboard.
But most of the cardboard apps won't work with Moto G3
This may be slightly off topic, but it is something I noticed regarding Google's apps with photospheres and this phone's lack of a gyroscope. Opening a photosphere in Google Photos or Google Plus, you cannot navigate the sphere by moving your device. However, in Google Street View you can, and it works quite well. This tells me that there is enough sensor output that we SHOULD be allowed to attempt to make a photosphere with Google Camera, but it is disabled for this device. I wish they'd use whatever tech they use in Street View in their other apps that require motion tracking.

It would be more efficient if Motorola would calculate approximate rotation based on the raw data of the two accelerometers and the magnetometer in the Moto G3 and offer this via the standard gyroscope API of Android. This way all apps which rely on gyroscope could benefit from this.
Otherwise every app developer would have to implement both methods like Google Streetview apparently does. Unlikely that many developers are willing to do this.
Did anyone try this xposed module ? (i haven't since I did not root my phone yet):
VirtualSensor is an Xposed module that aims at creating a virtual gyroscope in Android. It does so by using values from both the accelerometer and the compass thus deducing the angular rate on the 3 axis.

Edit: Meh... seems it doesn't work... But the project is not dead (last commit on October 2nd)

Is there any good application that is an alternative app functioning as the photosphere feature? only saw the app photosynth by microsoft for wp8 and ios, not for android, well, generally my question is:
If there's a app, where can i find it?
If no, do i have to root my device?
If i have to root my device for getting the feature, is wiping the phone essential?
If there's a need or risk to wipe to phone, is there any backup tools that is available?
(that backups everything, apps, data, text messages for viber, everything)
Once i rooted my phone, what should i do next?
need some support here thanks alot

try 360 panorama
This app is the closest to photosphere by google. Only working ap I found that takes a complete sphere. Play store has it. No root required. As for backup purposes, titanium backup is awesome

It doesn't show up in playstore for men, nor the google camera app :/
EDIT: Found out why, the app requires a gyro sensor, and HTC Desire 500 doesn't have one.
Google it

I've got it working without the gyro sensor on my phone. If you don't find it in play store, google for an apk!
I'm re-listing all the apps that support immersive panorama of full sphere
1. 360 panorama - this works with android 2.3 and above. Needs a good processor, at least 1ghz dual core, or it will be laggy as hell. No gyro needed.
2. Crystal pic sphere - Works with jelly bean and above. Does not really need a gyro sensor. U need to manually click the pics
3. Focal - Works with android 4.2 and above, Needs a gyro
4. Google camera- Works with android 4.4. Needs a gyro
5. Camera + Gallery apk stripped from nexus , available on google search. works with jelly bean. Needs gyro.

Check out Panorama: 360 by TeliportMe (sorry, I can't yet post links).
Some time passed and maybe the list here can be updated?
Looking for the apps menationed here, they either dont exist or they cannot compete with Google Camera Photosphere or Samsungs Surround
Anyone that knows some good and up to date alternative?
curious to see if anyone uses this app, and if they experience any issues with it? particularly, I used it the other day to map my bike ride, and although the app showed me where I was on a map, it failed to follow me (i.e. map my route). I made sure to set GPS to high accuracy, and I'm certain that my phone picked it up b/c android device manager shows my path.
I'm not sure if it is a problem with the app or OS (CM12 RR). I recall being able to map my path via the runtastic app on stock 4.4.4.
FWIW, I also have that app linked to Underarmour Record and Google Fit. Google fit does show that I biked that afternoon. So really, I'm just in search of a way to record/measure my distance that I biked/ran.
anyone with additional insight/help would be most appreciated.
thanks!
I have a OnePlus 6T and a LG V40 both phones are having the same issue. The built in camera apps link to Google Lens won't launch Lens, it acts like it's trying but doesn't. If I use the Google Lens App itself it works. Both devices are running Google Play Services beta and Google beta app. Ive reset both apps, Lens and Camera apps neither work. Any suggestions?
After the new Google App Beta everything is back working.
Hi all,
I'm looking to change from my P30 Pro - love the phone, but I dropped my belt on the screen [emoji22] and they're expensive to fix. Insurance paid me out luckily, debating whether I buy a P40 as they're really cheap now, or get the P30 Pro fixed.
The P30 Pro main camera gives weird yellow hues especially when capturing in raw and I'm hopeful the p40 is improved. Plus I think the 5x zoom is a gimmick, 2x or 3x is more usable in my view.
I'm wondering what the real limitations of daily use with a P40 is if you've loaded gms onto it.
- Can you update apps automatically from the play store?
- Does uber work once you have gms loaded?
- Does Netflix play in HD? (not so fussed about hdr)
- Do you have to re-apply gms fixes regularly or is that only needed when there's a Huawei firmware update?
- Does chromecast work?
I've read a bunch of forums but still not totally clear on what the current state is.
Thanks all, appreciate any advice!

We do need a custom firmware, otherwise forget about it, you may install some apps but you will always find bugs on apps that wont coop that great with some stuff that google have and needs adaptation to run on huawei phones, it really sucks we are doomed, the smartphones are extremely fast, the fastest i ever had, although, i was not able to use netflix, tinder and some others without serious bugs, our only hope is a custom firmware for the p40 family.
Thanks for the reply!

I've had a P30 pro but I returned it because of the size and the dim screen. Got a P40 and could not be happier. All apps work except netflix, no need to reapply anything, updates are automatic.
Considering the fact that in stock version there are no Google services at all, you need to find yourself using Huawei´s App Gallery. Some basic apps like Whatsapp etc are available through it. In other cases it refers to "PetalSearch" which directs you to (somewhat shady) apk-sites. Even if you get another store running on it like F-Droid or APKpure, some apps may be found and installed, but running them usually comes with notifications about missing google services, hence the app would not work properly, or at all...
I got this phone for the same reason (price & performance). Unfortunately due to the lack of integration and usuability, i am deemed to wait for a better image to put on the phone.
(I came across "OpenKirin"-Project and they seem to be active in XDA as well. Hope they´re able to look into this)

This is definitely exaggerating a bit.
Auto-updating apps from Google Play doesn't work, yes, but apps being broken - not really, at least from everything I've seen the only issue is notifications (on my side, Skype, Discord, Duo Authenticator, GMail's own app** and a banking app) however the apps themselves still work. What most people use works just fine without Google's stuff, though getting APKpure store is a good recommendation, that will cover pretty much everything (that is free) and missing in AppGallery.
Tinder definitely works fine from what I've seen, Netflix doesn't work at all due to some API/DRM certification stuff.
**using Outlook or the built-in email app fixes that
Hello
I'm looking for a gallery app, that can recognize faces and objects, without needing to enable cloud backup like Google Photos.
I have too many photos and don't want to pay extra storage on google one.
On my previous OnePlus 5, everything was local, and that was enough, and misses me.
I tried to install every manufacturer gallery app (OnePlus, Oppo, Samsung, Xiaomi, Huawei...) but none can be installed or is working (probably due to dependencies / external libraries...).
So do you know a great third-party gallery app that can do that locally ?
Thanks.
Probably not what you want but you can install the xmlpak Magisk module, it'll allow you to download and install vendor apps from other manufacturers, no guarantee of it working tho.
Interesting module, I didn't know, thanks.
But I had tried by downloading APKs directly, so it won't help...
The Huawei gallery is really good (I prefer it to Google photos) and offers facial recognition too but I cant get the APK working on my Pixel 7 pro. It has some great build it photo edit options too & a decent video editor. If anyone knows of a way to get it working i'd be really keen to know.
