For some reason all of a sudden my G2 decided to just overheat like crazy to the point that it's too hot to handle, just turning it on for 10 mins already is very warm (like from cold to warm that its worrysome warm) could this be an issue with the battery or motherboard?

Hi,
My TF101 seems to get warm when charging. I didn't notice this with the other ones I used, but perhaps I just missed it. Can anyone else confirm or deny this happens with theirs please?
Thanks.
Yup it happens, nothing to worry about, it also gets a little warm when running a CPU intensive app.
Yeah, mine heats up a little bit when it's charging as well. I can still hold it though, so I'm not afraid of it being too hot.
I decided to do a quick test to see what the temperatures really were... The unplugged temp was after I had left the screen on for 30 seconds and haven't run any games/applications recently.
Plugged in temperature was measured after being plugged in for 5 minutes and screen on for 30 seconds.
Battery temp unplugged: 24~25C
Battery temp plugged in: 26~26.5C
So not too much difference but I'm sure if you were using it while it was charging, it would heat up a lot more.
It's a common effect for many portable device. My EVO 4G gets fairly warm, my old iPhone 2G got super warm, my laptop gets piping hot, my Sprint Overdrive gets a bit warm. The only portable device that doesn't get warm while charging is my BB 9700.
Yep, mine gets warm to when its being used, in the right-hand quarter in back. But when I say "gets warm," I mean literally just a tad warmer than the rest of the unit. It never approaches "really warm," and certainly not "hot." I can't say if the Xoom ever gets warmer when in use because I've always used it in its case.
it should fine..
the charger itself is not warm..it's actually very very hot...

I heard about ASUS update FW this week.
However, you maybe go to RC (repair center) for updating the newest FW.

Never really felt it before you mentioned this but... you are right, it is really hot.
Also, when I touch the dock lightly while charging, I can feel it vibrating.
When I keep my phone on & just charge it up while its idle, when its at 100%, the phone is hot to the touch. Once I take it off, it cools off in 5-10 minutes. It also starts to overheat when I play games on it for at least 5 minutes. What could be the problem?
Do you have a custom rom or kernel on the phone. Mine gets mildy warm every now and again but nothing serious.
Id suggest reverting back to stock rom using your ruu and use it for a bit to see if it happens again.
i had a similar problem. my phone would overheat and not charge or charge fast enough. also after a short use the battery level would plummet. i fix the problem by changing to a new charging plug.
It shouldn't get that warm at all.
Infact, I noticed that it actually cooled down once I plugged it into the charger. I was playing a 3D game and I noticed it was getting warm, but also the battery was getting low, so I plugged it in and kept going for a bit longer, the phone actually started cooling down. I thought it was the game making the hardware heat up, but in fact, it was the battery heating up due to the power drain
Perhaps a custom rom could cause it, but I am already running mikes 6.5.2 with the 1.5Ghz firmware. But im sure others will vary.
Perhaps, if nothing else, and you're ok with taking the back off the phone, check the contacts, both on the battery and the phone, make sure they are clean. Resistance can cause heat.
hey guys, it think my phone is becoming hotter than usual while charging, i would just like to ask what is the normal temperature during charging and during heavy usage such as playing 3d game(not charging)
The Nexus has an issue with heating up. Mine does the same. If you feel it is getting too hot, then shut phone down for a bit. Temp shouldn't get more than 120F. It can, but keep that number as a safeguard. Hope this helps.
ok, tnx a lot..will try to monitor the temp regularly
So ive recently been addicted to this racing game and play it constantly :S So after I play I usually stick my Nexus on charge as it drops like 20-30%, this could be at 50% 60% 30% watever, but will charging it so often have adverse affect on it? I heard that between 40-20% is the time to charge it and having it constantly drop to below 20% or waiitng till the phone dies isnt good for Li-ion batteries...
And my phone gets quite hot after 10-20 minutes, I keep thinking the circuits would fry or something as its hot and then theres a case on top of it so it just seals in the heat. Is that a problem?
Hey guys, so last winter I had no issues, snowboarding and taking the phone out, it was cold but battery was good. I noticed the past month or 2, now I noticed when battery drops to about 40% it drops fast! And when it dies if I plug it in for a short time it'll bump up to say 30% fast and discharge slower. I ran the battery discharge app, it drained down fast to about 2% then slowed, stayed at 1% for about 18 mins in the app before the phone finally shut off... , when it gets even a bit. Cold, say i left it in a 5 degrees celcuius location for 15 mins, it'll die. I thought huh? Plug it in for 5 mins and bam 68% percent. Today I was out snowmobiling, about - 2c or about 26f? The first half the ride it was ok, airplane mode on it had 85%, then get back to the vehicle and look at it, it was off, try and turn it on, it showed 0% and shut off. Let warm up and bam back to 80%....
What's going on? I think a battery mis calibration? It's bizarre and I've Googled but havent found a fix. Thanks!
Well, I'm thinking a few things:
1. Batteries hate the cold, and can be very sensitive to temp changes/certain temps where they really drop off efficiency. Age and cold can certainly add to their stressed unreliability.
2. If your battery is doing well in more normal temps, drops to say 40%, and then drops fast, followed by a recharge to 30%,where it discharges slower, maybe because the charging heated it a bit... ? So it's performing a tad better ?
3. Seems less possible that there is a short, but could be a temp sensitive short. I have seen those in electronics and cars, though the initial description has the feel of a battery going south.
If it remains stable to 40% and higher, and either the 40% lower threshold or temp get's it, perhaps changing out the battery would be a safe bet.
Thanks for the reply. I got reading a theory that as the battery ages, internal resistance goes up and when it gets cold it really shows, but who knows. My. Best bet I think is just to replace the battery.
