Revert from OxygenOS to Cyannogen - problem with recovery - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Last month I've successfully switched my Oneplus One 16Gb to official Oxygen OS 2.1.4
Finaly I prefer the Cyanogen version and here I have a problem with the recovery tool.
I can't replace OxygenOS recovery at all and with it : not possible to install "super su" or cyanogen 12.1 rom.
With adb the installation of TWRP recovery or or cm12.1 recovery seems to work fine (transfer ok and no errors) but when I restart in recovery mode ((power + volume down) It's still OxygenOS Recovery in my phone.
Please help, I don't want to be stuck in this state :crying:

download the latest COS12.1.1 factory image to your pc, boot into fastboot mode and install the factory image via fastboot (flash aboot FIRST and do a "fastboot reboot bootloader" before you flash the rest ).
After that (or during, just replace recovery.img) you may install any custom recovery

Yes :good:
You brought me on the right track
I have successfully applied this method.
I nearly lost my phone because I had a power outage during the recovery but finally all is fine : I am back on COS 12.1.1 :victory:
A big thank-you

Yes I am trying to flash TWRP
However, when I follow the below mentioned steps this is what i end up with :
List of devices attached
dc1c2a16 unauthorized
C:\Program Files (x86)\ClockworkMod\Universal Adb Driver>adb devices
List of devices attached
dc1c2a16 device
C:\Program Files (x86)\ClockworkMod\Universal Adb Driver>adb reboot bootloader
C:\Program Files (x86)\ClockworkMod\Universal Adb Driver>fastboot devices
C:\Program Files (x86)\ClockworkMod\Universal Adb Driver>fastboot oem unlock
< waiting for device >
And on the device screen it just reads "Fastboot mode"

So I kind of have the same problem but not exactly, I flashed the oxygen os and it worked perfectly but I wanted to change it to a nugget based rom and realized that I can not even boot into recovery. it gets stuck on the first oneplus logo that comes up and will not boot into the twrp. Any suggestions?

wait, so ur phone can't boot into the rom? or stuck at the fastboot mode everytime u try to turn on the phone ? I'm having that problem too, but I reinstall all the driver, and it worked.

My device is just stuck at the Fast boot screen that shows a One Plus Logo under which "Fastboot Mode" is written after I try to boot into fast boot.

Go to fastboot and flash latest twrp first. If you are rooted, you can do that also from running systen (flashify, twrp manager)

Thank you for your response. I tried doing that but it gives me an error saying that there is already a twrp installed. I used Twrp Manager

Yes, this is general procedure for any android phone. The only requirement is unlocked bootloader.

Can't flash twrp need help!

Okay so I received my opo today and wanted to unlock and root etc.. I managed to install drivers and download a toolkit which managed to unlock my bootloader but wouldn't flash the recovery so I attempted it manually via fastboot and after flashing it would reboot to a back screen then vibrate and reboot to system.. Been doing that all night? Any ideas? many thanks in advance new to this phone
Exactly what recovery version are you trying to flash? What OS is on the phone? Get rid of the toolkit, they're nothing but trouble.
Twrp 2.8.1. And its running android 4.4.4 cyanogen mod.. I have mate haha. I take it fastboot and adb are installed correctly as it shows my opo after typing fastboot devices and it unlocked my boot loader soo I'm confused

Try flashing the recovery again, followed by this command
Code:
fastboot erase cache
Then:
Code:
fastboot reboot
Then try booting into recovery.
PS. You've unchecked the "update CM recovery" option in Developer Options, right?
same problem for me. tried manually installing any custom recovery, tried two different toolkits. it flashes and reboots, but then you can never enter the recovery app. even attempting to put stock back fails. i attempted the format the cache and that didn't do a thing for me. basically had to enable cm recovery updates and reset to factory in the os. after that i was back to scratch at least.
I was able to figure it out. Appears the version of TWRP is quite particular for some reason. Once I tried the latest build from here dl dot twrp dot me/bacon/ the problem was solved. Thanks for the tip @snickler

I didnt get anything from the post. you have to be little bit specific.
i mean you
1. unlocked bootloader(fine)
2. installed twrp(also fine)
3. installed cm13(great)
4. you reverted back to stock rom??? How from twrp, flashfire or fastboot.?
and now how are you trying to install twrp? from fastboot?
Flash twrp image with fastboot, start TWRP, reboot recovery within TWRP, then twrp sticks... profit.

TWRP is not sticking...
1) Start the bootloader, flash TWRP in fastboot with the command: fastboot flash recovery twrp.img (Replace twrp.img with the name of the TWRP img file)
2) Press VOL DN to start Recovery and select it, TWRP should start... When prompted if you should allow changes to system, say YES or allow or whatever so that is allowed to mount system as read-write.
3) In the TWRP main menu, select Reboot, then Reboot - Recovery
4) The device will restart and TWRP will start again, if asked to allow changed changes to system again, allow it
5) Go to Mounts and make sure Mount System Read-Only is NOT ticked
6) Press Home, then Reboot and Reboot Recovery again
TWRP will start again and be set, it will not go away unless you flash something with a recovery.img in the file (custom ROMs do not normally contain this file).

At what point? What command are you using to perform the flash?
I'm sorry... I've just done this on numerous G3's and what you are describing doesn't just happen for no reason... either the initial flash was done incorrectly, the process to set it was not followed, or there is actually a defect in the device (which is unlikely if TWRP boots even once after bring flashed).

NEVER USE KINGROOT OR KINGOROOT on a Moto G3 with Marshmallow, it will soft brick... We have seen at least a half dozen specific examples by experienced users... Somehow you got lucky, but I would never recommend this method to a user.
Now, once rooted Flashify is a viable option.

Rooting MIUI 10.2.1.0 on global device and rom?

I've read about some bug on the latest MIUI that makes Magisk bootloop, but I don't know if that means we cant currently root. Any help is appreciated

Oh, it shouldn't wipe my phone right? Sorry just came back to Android after several months.
Install magisk 17.3 via TWRP, work fine.

No need to wipe, either go to twrp - advanced - install root OR flash the magisk 17.1 or 17.3 zip.
Hey guys, I am very new to Android since i switched from iPhones now to the Mi Mix 3 (EU Version). I unlocked the bootloader already and have the adb drivers installed and when I try to boot into TWRP using "fastboot flash recovery TWRP.img" into "fastboot boot TWRP.img" it will boot back into MIUI. I also tried some methods mentioned in various forums like
"1. Put phone in the fastboot mode (switch it off, then press and hold power + volume down for a couple of seconds)
2. Flash twrp through fastboot (fastboot flash recovery twrp.img)
3. Boot TWRP (fastboot boot twrp.img)
4. When phone screen become black, hold power + volume up until it vibrate then release all
5. The phone will boot into twrp "
but I never get the phone to go into the TWRP recovery mode. It either boots back into MIUI or into the MIUI Fastboot screen. Has anyone an idea? Should I try to reinstall the drivers or what could be the issue?
Thanks a lot in advance!!
Flashing TWRP
I had a similar issue (could not boot into recovery after flashing TWRP)
Rename twrp.whatever.img to "recovery.img", then,
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Magisk 19 works perfect also

[Resolved] Phone boots to fastboot Instead of recovery

Hey guys,
I wanted to flash a custom ROM on my Mi 9 SE, for this I installed TWRP (3.3.1-3) and Booted into it normaly. After wiping the phone I mistakenly restarted it and now the phone instaltly goes into fastboot mode without a chance to enter TWRP. I tryed to reflash TWRP but it did not work. I can't use adb as the phone only enters fastboot mode. is there another way to enter recovery mode? I also found the software MiFlash from Xiaomi but I only get the error "can not found file flash_all.bat"
Edit: Got it to work now, this is what I did:
Download MiFlash (from here: c[DOT]mi[DOT]com/thread-1329226-1-1.html [can't use links as new user ¯\_(ツ)_/¯])
flash stock ROM (from here: xiaomistockrom[DOT]com/xiaomi-mi-9-se [same])
it did not work with the stock ROM found on Xiaomis Website but only with the one linked.

Hi guys,
just received from my sister a oneplus 6 and i tried to flash a new custom rom after updating the system. I was following the guide posted on these forum but, when i tried to boot from fastboot to twrp it just display endless the twrp logo. I tried to boot with an older twrp or blu spark but nothing, they all make QUALCOMM crashdump, just the latest never go past the twrp logo. Tried to search for someone with a similar problem but i couldnt find anything about my same problem. Thanks in advance.

Which android version are you? 9 10 11?
1. Unlock Bootloader (if is already unlocked, skip this step)
2. download platform tools and unpack
3. copy twrp img and installer zip to platform tools folder location
4. open cmd
5. reboot phone to bootloader
6. write in cmd fastboot erase userdata
7. then write fastboot boot twrp-file-image-name.img
8. twrp is booted, go to advanced and choos option Flash current twrp
9. if is done, then reboot to recovery
10. go to wipe option, choose format data and type yes
11. now you can flash rom using rom flashing instructions
12. remember, after done rom flashing, FLASH twrp installer
@Noob9496 hey dude thanks, i found Someone who had my same problem and I resolved too with fastboot erase userdata so I could had finally boot into twrp cause that was my main problem.
@croperas yeah that was the problem too, cause when I had finally my sweet rom, syberia os (the only android 12 available atm for op6) I tried to go back to the recovery but can't, tried reinstall everything but I couldn't so after some research couldn't find anything, but anyone who had problems with recovery almost always had problems with incompatible versions (like twrp for android 10 but had android 11) so I then realized it isn't still available a custom recovery for android 12 for op6. So after erasing everything its all fine. Thanks a lot guys really appreciated.

I have the same problem after flashing OO 11.1.2.2. I made a mistake flashing the wrong patched image to get rooted again but doing this I lost the access to twrp and now there is no recovery anymore. If I try to boot into any older version of twrp I receive a crashdump, if I try to boot to twrp 3.6.0 it gets stuck to logo. If I use the command "fastboot erase userdata" do I lose something?

Install the twrp installer directly from magisk
What I did was trying to install Lineage OS 18.1 (the latest nightly from Jan 11 2022) with Lineage OS Recovery. Following the official wiki I always got stuck in the lineage os boot animation. Never got past that. Tried to fastboot boot twrp.img but TWRP stuck on logo. I think I never tried to boot twrp with the userdata erased. I think I will try it.
Anyone trying to install the twrp, check out SHRP recovery for OP6/t. Boot the img and flash the zip from that thread. tested works with both OP6 and OP6t in OOS 11.1.2.2.
