i have a real problem, trying to flash my samsung vibrant with odin, (installing the unofficial update) my phone was bricked, i cant get into download mode, the key combination vol-up + vol-down to get to download mode is not working, i can't get into recovery mode either, (well getting into recovery mode has never worked) i tried using adb reboot recovery with sdk and it comes as device not found.
Am i screwed or there is any way to unbrick?

Take out the battery, wait a full minute. put it back in and the case back together without inadvertantly hitting either the power or up/down keys. Now press the down key. While holding it down, hold down the power key. If that doesn't put you into download mode, you have done the impossible. These phones are (almost) impossible to brick.
I have seemed to have done the something similar as I was trying to reflash with ODIN and the phone went black, I left it alone for several minutes and now when I try to turn the phone on I just have a graphic with a phone and a computer with a little triangle with an exclaimation mark in the middle and nothing else happens.

i beg to differ
nothing is working for me either
So I went to This Site pathikshah. com /blog / install-android-2-2-froyo-galaxy-s/ (sorry about the spaces new user and xda wont let me post links, not spamming honest), I did exactly as it said it was working as planned until it reset after install. First instead of the vibrant screen coming up it now says:
Galaxy S
GT-I9000
Then It goes to:
Android System Recovery <3e>
on that screen it says twards the bottom:
update media please wait
E:Cant mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
(Invalid argument)
E:copy_dbdata_media:Cant mount SDCARD:
your storage not prepared yet, please use UI me
nu for format and reboot actions.
copy default media content failed.
so when I try to scroll through the recovery menu I have to push vol Up to scroll down
also it does nothing when i press the ok button (power button), unless I hold it down then it resets and goes back to the same recovery screen
I rooted the samsung galaxy s then added a rom and the rom is crashing my phone I've tried aboslutely everything don't know what else to do.
i also have a problem
i have install ROM manager and make a back up
went i try to recovery my backup it give me first the original recovery mode i know i have to select update.zip to access the clockworkmod recovery (ver 2.5.1.2 last one) i use the option restore and start it
now my phone just reboot in recovery mode
i'm looking if some one have a working ROM backup
tnx for your help
Drago.

Thank you for the video link. I was up to that point unable to get the download/shoveling droid screen. Now I'm in the process of finally getting the phone back to stock after downloading the t-mobile update that cam through and bricked the phone.
no downloading mode
Hi i was hoping this will help me to reenabeling my bricked samsung. But i cant get it in to downloanding mode. the 3 button way isnt working and the way showed in the movie neither. Is there an other way to get the phone back to work?
I have tried all the methods posted here as well as many others from the link posted above. But to no avail.
I did everything successfully up until the reboot. Whereupon, it would not start. No amount of button combination helped me. And taking out the battery pack is no help either. It just won't start. I could use any advice.
Thank you.
I'm in the same boat now, attempted to odin back to stock and now I have a brick. It's just blank, I cant get it into download or recovery mode using any method described.
Is my only shot the jig method I've read about now?
EDIT
Nevermind, I got it. Pulled the battery, replaced it, held down both power buttons, inserted usb (already plugged in comp w/ odin open), boom..entered download mode and flashed..

Remove the battery and insert it again, now keep pressing the volume buttons and connect the USB cable to your phone, the usb cable must be connected to your pc first.
hey, i also experienced bricking my phone. is there a step by step process how to unbrick it? i need urgent help please. by the way im using samsung galaxy s 4g (
after i have gone to download mode. my computer cannot recognize my device. help me please.
to the post above me. Sounds like you have a bad usb data cable. Grab you a new cable online and you should be good to go
I'm assuming you have already downloaded the drivers to your computer. Sasmung.com will have them
Hi,
When I tried turning on my Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 this morning, it didn't work, as if the battery was completely flat. That was unexpected as I though it was almost full. When I put the tablet on charge, it started in Odin mode writing "Downloading... Do not turn off target!!".
Now when I press the on/off button for something like five seconds, it reboots. If I press on/off + vol down + menu, then I enter a menu giving me two options: continuing or rebooting. In both cases the result is the same: going back to the Odin screen. Here is the exact output:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SM-P900
CURRENT BINARY: Custom
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
KNOX WARRANTY VOID: 1
RP SWREV: A1
The tablet was rooted one year ago and I haven't play with ROMs and firmwares since then. I have absolutely no idea why it started in Odin mode.
I am currently downloading a firmware to try upload it to the tablet using Odin. Is it a smart move? Any advice?
Make sure your volume button is not stuck. Test it when the tablet is off to see if it response normally up and down.

It seems OK to me. Moreover, if I start pressing on/off + vol down + home to enter the Odin menu, I get two different behaviors pressing vol up or vol down: either reboot (and then Odin mode) or going to Odin mode. So I think these buttons work fine.
Are you able to get into recovery?
If it were me I'd try to run through the root process first, reflashing the modified recovery. If that doesn't fix it then yeah most certainly a full wipe would work since you're still able to get into download mode anyway.

So basically, I try to root again my tablet as I did the first time? (Sorry for these questions, I'm not very fluent with all these things.)
I can't flash anything using Odin. It gets stuck at the "Initialzation.." step. I tried different versions of Odin and different USB ports (but not cables, I only have one). It might be related to the fact that I'm using Virtualbox. I will try to find a native Windows.
In the mean time, any idea?
Ok so my fiancé pointed out that her phone got an update and I liked how it looked so I wanted to update mine. but I couldn't because of root. and so since I never use my root I went into super su and hit the unroot button and then my phone reset I have been in bootloop ever since. before someone suggests NO I cannot use ODIN because it wont register my phone being plugged in. YES I have the proper driver installed I triple checked and no my computer does not register the phone either. is there anything that I can do?
You didnt kill your phone!!!
The reason of bootloop is that when you press unroot in superSU it also restores unpatched stock boot.img which doesn't boot with custom recovery.
Hold power + home + volume up + volume down for 7 seconds to hard reboot your phone and enter download mode confirmation page. Press volume down to exit downloading mode and immediately hold volume up + power + home until you enter recovery. Do a factory reset.
Enter download mode confirmation page again by same method and press volume up, connect phone to your PC. Now if Odin doesn't recognize your phone then that 100% Driver or USB Cable problem. Flash latest official firmware and you should be good to go.

Nice tut! Anyway, if he still can't get recognized by PC, i suggest to try different PC, i had the same problem a while ago, my pc wouldn't recognize my phone in odin no matter what. Then i checked on my friends PC and it worked like a charm. It must be USB ports problems.
if your pc does see your phone but the odin still fails you can just use smartswitch and do emergency recovery tyoe your model number and imei in and sit back and relax and you are done
Thank YOU!!!!!!

Smart Switch does work, check your USB drivers and internet connection.
At the end of the process smart switch does verify a lot of thing, when your CPU from your computer is slow it will hang a long time on 94%

Flash Stock Firmware through Odin...
Find your Firmware here https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/
You are more than likely gonna have to visit Samsung and pay £290 for a brand new mainboard not under warranty.
I ade the mistake f rooting mine, and all was fine, until my dumb self unchecked OEM and when I rebooted, it was stuck in download mode.
I tried EVERY possible option for HOURS every day.
All the Odin methods failed, no matter what I flashed, how I flashed etc etc etc...nothing wiorked.
Took it to Samsung and they basically said, "Sorry, you rooted it" only fix was for me to pay £290 for a brand new mainboard...so I did.
I'm not even gonna attempt to root this phone and for the last few weeks the phone is unrooted and I can honestly say, after years and years of always rooting my phones with no problem etc.....I'm not missing root one tiny bit....which is something I thought I'd never say.

SOLVED !
I did just the same 2day. and i looked fare and wide to a solution for this. i came past this super dumb looking way of getting past and and well it worked !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what you do is ! and dont ask why or how just do it
Prepare ODIN with the files BL+AP+CP+CSC need to be your stock firmware. download from sammobil or update
This worked for me this wait, my phone was like yours...
There's a trick...
All the time you enter in Download mode, and hit Start in Odin, the Odin says "FAIL" and the phone automatic reboot.
The trick is..
When in "Download mode" Start and at the same time press and hold "Vol Down + Bixby + Power".
Odin says FAIL and it will restart the phone automatic.
Press faster and hold "Vol Down + Bixby + Power" to go again to "Download mode".
Press Start in Odin and be prepared to press and hold at the same time "Vol UP + Bixby + Power".
Odin will start to transfer the files... and after that the phone reboot again faster, just press and hold one more time and faster "Vol UP + Bixby + Power".
atlast it will transerfer files and well your phone is 100% back to stock ! xD

Can you explain why you feel that you don't need to root it? take aside the mistake you did...
What about all the missing feature that you used to have with root, and how this phone "compensate" those missing features?
I mean, without root you cant uninstall bloatware, need to see lots of ads inside apps, ads on youtube, lots of useful apps that requires root... no customization at all.
What in this phone make you not to root it?

NEVER trust someone who starts their sentence with "" TRUST ME .... ""
So, here it is in the title. People here are my last hope.
I wanted to do the TRWP bootloader change, but apparently i am way too stupid to do that, because my phone is rebooting incessently and the only things it show is:
Set Warranty Bit : vbmeta
Set Warranty Bit : Recovery
And i can't turn it off. Pressing volume up + volume down while pressing the power button does nothing. I searched on google relentlessly before coming here. Connecting my phone to my pc does nothing, nothing is recognized. I'm completely desperate. Is there any way to completely reset the phone without the recovery menu? I'm fairly sure there isn't but it doesn't hurt asking...
Thank you in advance for any suggestions.
Press both volume buttons only when connected to a PC and it should boot you to download mode. After the prompt, press VOL + to continue and then flash your stock ROM using Odin (download Odin from XDA, you can find it)
Thanks a whole lot, i finally have access to the download mode. Now i just have to find the original firmware
There are a few sites to download like sammobile and samfrew
I wanted to say: Thank you. Your instructions just saved my phone, and even tho i had a spare (my old phone) i'm glad i got it back.
