Hey guys, I could use a little help. I tried flashing the new Cognition 4, and I got an error at line 12. No biggie, just flash to stock. When I got TiBu (paid version) and went to re-remove all the AT&T bloatware...they no longer appear in TiBu. The apps are still on my phone, and all work, but I can't seem to remove them again. Any ideas on what I should do?

Bustybox, or Busybox lol? I have busy box installed, but I'll re-install and see if it helps.

Thanks! I guess the problem was an older version of Busybox. I updated from 1.6.1 that comes with TiBu to 1.7 and viola...they appeared in the list, and I deleted them.
Now, if I could ony get TiBu to restore my Quickoffice app that came on the phone, was backed up, but will not restore for some reason...

If you try to update, it should fail. Most roms are signed differently then the ota so the phone wont update...
Just open titanium backup and freeze the updater. Problem goes away completely.

What is the updater called? I have frozen updater.apk and it still keeps trying to update itself!

That actually fixed it for me... so I'm not sure why you're getting it. :\
Why not update the ROM your using to one that uses MR2 as the base?
Yeah are you using the newest base?

If rooted it should not update.
I've never been prompted for an update once rooted

My wife's nephew is rooted on stock and he keeps getting the update message. Would it fail if it downloads and tries installing or is it going to break his phone? He couldn't find anything in titanium that says updater.... Any thoughts?

The OTA update will never download or install. There is a way to disable the OTA update notification but I can't remember the file that needs to be edited to do so.
Ok, this morning my phone started downloading the VZW update. I'm stock-Rooted with Wallet and Google Now running. When the update was finished downloading it gave me a few minutes to accept or to defer. I chose the defer button and then it ask's me to pick a time later today to do it. How do I get out of this? I don't want to run the update.
Thanks

Download Titanium Backup from the Play store, run it, go to the Backup/Restore tab, scroll down to "SDM 1.0" and uninstall it. You should probably make a backup of it first just in case you ever need to get it back, but I've never read of it being used for anything other than pushing Verizon OTAs, which you will probably never want to receive if you're rooted.
If you have the paid version of Titanium Backup, you can "freeze" the app instead, but uninstalling it with the free version works too.
Thanks, I really appreciate your help
I tried freezing it before I received the update and that didn't work. Guess its somehow overridden by Verizon.

I had to reboot after freezing it for it to stop downloading

I have not received any prompts for OTA updates yet and was curious as to why that is. Apparently, some ROMS are coded without the SDM 1.0 file because I am running Clean ROM 2.5 and cannot find SDM 1.0 anywhere in the list. Another reason why Scrosler and CleanROM are boss!

Any custom ROM worth its salt should not include the SDM app, CleanROM isn't special in that regard.
Somehow I've managed to completely delete the google store app off my sony niro, with ICS. This means that i cant upgrade or install any apps from that site! Vodafone, my provider, have suggested that I back everything up and then do a factory reset which will nuke everything on the phone and leaving me to re-install everything afterwards. Ouch!
Can anyone suggest how i can get it back without doing the factory reset please? I cant install their 'PC Companion' software to do it with as I'm using Debian 7.
Thanks
Sharon.
Are you rooted with a custom recovery? Do you have a copy in Titanium Backup?
If not, rooting and either flashing it or pushing it somehow might work. I'm thinking like how you'd flash GAPPs normally with a new ROM.
I'm not sure about specifics for your phone, though.

Right, new google store app downloaded and installed, rebooted, cleared cache and all stored data and run it. It shows that i have 12+ updates to get, so i start downloading them and it crashes! Just says that 'google store has stopped'! Try again and the same thing happens, so I'll let it fully charge and take it off the charge cord and try again.
But its looking hopeful, thanks.
Sharon.
Full charge now done so I've had a chance to play with it. With all cache and data deleted, it still crashes before you get the little checkbox asking you to agree to googles term and conditions. It doesn't show in 'titanium backup' under 'google store' or 'play store', and neither does it show in 'ROM Toolbox Pro' of downloaded apps, installed apps, or backupped apps. Its as if it doesn't exist!
I'm now at a loss as to what to do next, any ideas please?
Hopefully thanks
Sharon.
If you are on a custom ROM, you could try flashing the applicable Gapps package, as stated above....if not then I'm thinking the factory reset would be next step, as much as a pain that it is.
Just backup and reset

So I updated to 5.0 lollipop via ADB flash a couple days ago, and I realized that without xposed + root, I really cannot stand this phone... I need the simplicity that xposed gives me to make using my phone much easier.
So now, I want to downgrade back to 4.4.4 KitKat. Has anyone here tried? What I tried was downloading the 4.4.4 factory images, extracted it, and edited the flash-all.bat file and removed the "-w" command to save my data. It flashes fine, but then the phone is stuck in the boot animation and doesnt get past that.
Has anyone here successfully DOWNGRADED and KEPT THEIR DATA intact? Would appreciate it a lot!

You would need to wipe cache and Dalvik for sure. System apps may need data wipes, too. Play by ear.

yes. I did root it and it worked well. However, one of my company apps that I have to use on my phone detects my phone is rooted and won't open.... Xposed had a module (root cloak) to hide the fact that I had root for that app so it worked

Are there any side effects to wiping cache and Dalvik? If I get stuck on a bootloop again would I have issue flashing 5.0 back if I wipe that?

Just flash factory images. You'll be in for some hair pulling if you try to boot your saved data. Why do people try to do these crazy moves..

That isn't a solution to my problem. I know I can just wipe everything and flash the images again, but the point here is I want to save my data and apps and not have to setup my phone again (thus the topic title, I want to keep my data)

Did you take a nandroid before flashing? You can use TiBU to extract the apps and data from that.

Biggest mistake, no I didnt
Worst case I am stuck with 5.0 lollipop until there is a version of Xposed for ART... or if I can figure out how to use the company app on a rooted device.
I sincerely doubt your phone settings for 5.0 will be compatible with 4.4.x
You will have to wipe. If you're rooted, you can at least restore user apps and data but the android settings, you'll have to do yourself.

I can easily root the device again. What do you mean if I am rooted in can restore user apps and data? How would I back those up and restore? Are you referring to using something like titanium backup?
Thanks.

Yes. Not "like". Exactly that.
You can use Helium as well (which doesn't require root)

Thanks. Rooting isn't an issue so I don't mind titanium since it's more comprehensive I think.

Just wanted to update everyone.
I used titanium backup to save all my apps+appdata and then flashed 4.4.4 via ADB. Then flashed TWRP and used CF-Auto-Root to root my phone.
Everything is right in my world of android again. 4.4.4, rooted, and no restrictions. Thanks all!

Any fix for the pesky OTA System Update notification?
I'm dying for 4.4.4 but cant stand that annoying update notification.
And I can't get rid of it without wakelocks.
Funny enough I haven't gotten the notification for Ota update yet... Maybe because I used cf auto root to root the phone and it modifies the kernel I think.
