I had MX player for a couple years with no problems. Eventually installed the custom codec when AC3 was no longer supported. Everything worked great. Now I'm having issues with some video's audio tracks and not others. Some are fine and others sound like a family of chipmunks arguing/metal ringing and you can't hear ANY dialogue. Full of "artifacts" i guess you would call it. I'm using the Verizon Note 4 on the latest firmware. This was happening with 4.4.4 as well. Thanks in advance for any help.
Hmm, @ktsamy could look into this.

Sorry about the delay in replying. Work's been killing me. Unfortunately, I don't have a way to record a sample at the moment. Camera went for a trip over the side of a mountain a few weeks ago. The best way I can describe it is this. The video is perfectly fine. The audio is playing but you can't hear any music, dialogue, or sound effects. It's just a metallic ringing sound. The strange thing is, it plays fine on my computer and my old Asus TF201 Transformer tablet. Just happens on my Note 4. And as said, it's only certain movies.

That's wired. Can you post the media info?
Most of the camcorders records in stereo & not in 5.1. I suspect that you are playing in HW decoder. If the issue is from HW decoder, this may happen. Can you try to manually enable SW audio from audio track selection panel?
If you still have issues, Kindly provide more details.
Which version of the player?
If you are still using 1.7.40, can you try the latest 1.8.x nightly from the website along with custom codec 1.8. If you are in 1.8 uninstall it & try the latest stable 1.7.40.
Kindly collect a bug report immediately after playing the video & upload here.
It will be better if you can upload or share a link of a sample clip. (There are many tools available online to trim the video without recoding)

I'm having problems with audio being behind video while using bluetooth.
I can't find any video players on the market (play store now) that enable a programmable delay - wondering if anyone knows a player that can do it?
I'm having problems with avi's, specifically XviD video, mp3 audio, written with Nandub v1.0rc2. A few years old. Although pretty much every video I have gives delay problems.
I'm running a TF101, Android Vers 3.2.1, bluetooth vers 6.24, kernel vers 2.6.36.4+ (1.2GHZ accelerated), build HTK75.revolver-3.11.1_epad-8.6.5.21-20111216.
And using MX Player Pro 1.6B. Tried a few other players, tried via Skifta, tried off the micro SD card, and confirmed no audio delay via Windows Media Player on my Win7-64 box.
Any help would be appreciated.

Dice player has it, but it´s limited to +1 sec or -1 sec. I´m searching for a player with at least +5 sec or -5 sec... Did you already find it at this time?

I know this is an old thread... but I finally sorted it out. I reset my tf101 to stock HC, then let Asus update it by FOTA to ICS, v4.0.3, and build number IML74K.WW_epad-9.2.1.27-20120615. Which looks to be 6 months old... maybe it's Asus' last update for the TF101.
Anyways, I still got the bluetooth audio delay. About half a second. Making movies unwatchable. After a bit of trolling the net I found out BSplayer has a variable audio delay in a recent update. Tried it, and it WORKED, after setting delay to 550ms. So I've dumped MX player that I've used since the start, and as soon as my credit card gets replaced I'm paying for the full version of BS player. I found MX player to be great, over the 12 months I've used it, but it hasn't fixed the delay issue, so it's gone.
Now it's time to try a Revolver ICS ROM... I miss being able to close background apps, and I miss having a charge indicator for the dock battery.
And I still can't play 720p .mkv video without converting it to baseline profile .mp4. - maybe I'll upgrade to a nexus 10 one day.
Just noticed an update for the mobile.HD media player in the store. It now supports DTS audio. Works great, without any lag now!

ooh! thanks for the headsup. Oddly enough, I'm running the trial and did not get an update notice. Wen to my apps, selected mobile.HD, and tapped install and updated. Works great now!
Also supports subtitles according to the release notes.
I haven't been able to test any files yet though since I'm not at home.

I didn't get a notification either, I just happened to look! I immediately purchased it after. Well worth the 3.49 now! Ran a 1080p version of inception and didnt have a single slowdown or anything.
I'm pretty sure, actually, that they increased the price a dollar with this update. I'm 99% sure that it was $2.49 when I purchased it.
It makes sense though, if they feel the app is now closer to completion.
Cool - Hopefully they will add Dolby audio as well. So MKVs are playing good through it with DTS audio. Maybe I will havbe to buy it.

Uh, Dolby Digital was already supported.
Unless you're referring to TrueHD or something, I guess.
It stutters on some of the super-high bitrate stuff I have, but most 720p and 1080p stuff now plays perfectly. (Edit: Stuttering was because of playing a file stored on the network, see below post).
I noticed that there's no option to turn subtitles OFF for episodes that have them embedded, though.
Also, now that I think about it, I wonder if it's possible to bitstream the audio via HDMI out.
Edit: There's also an x when you tap on the screen that lets you turn subtitles off. It's not obvious though; it would make more sense for "off" to be a section in the track selection.

Hmm - I must be getting this confused with another player in the store that only plays 2 channel audio, when I was on the search for an MKV player a few weeks back. All of my MKVs have both DD 5.1 and DTS tracks (when I encode them). Maybe it failed because of the DTS track being in there when I tried it out.
I will have to give this one another whirl.
I just connected to my receiver via HDMI. So basically what happens is that this player decodes the DD/DTS track to PCM, and then the 5.1 PCM is output to the receiver / TV. So, the Dolby Digital or DTS light won't come on on the receiver, but it's still 5.1 surround. It's just the decoding is done in the player, and not in the receiver. There shouldn't be much of a quality difference either way though, though it would be nice if it did support bitstreaming.
Also, I take back what I said above about it being stuttery. That was only the case when trying to play a 1080p file over Wifi. I copied that same file to a USB hard drive, and it played back perfectly. This is with a file that's at a ridiculous 12mbps bitrate.
So yeah, nearly perfect for me. All it needs is an option to turn off the subtitles, and it's perfect. Bitstream support would be nice too, but I don't actually see that as a necessity. And then it also needs "Play To" support.
Edit: Never mind, I found the button to turn off subtitles, it's a little x on the screen when you tap on it. It'd make more sense for OFF to be in the track selection menu.
Takes a while to load (1-2 minutes), but once it does it seems to be playing DTS movies just fine. Purchased it last night, I believe it was $1.80 or something. I haven't tried it on a receiver yet, though.

Switch your surface's language settings temporarily to English-US, then go to the MS app store, download the apps you want. you can switch back to English-Australia and the downloaded apps will still be there.
It's a really great app, but it's not showing my subtitles... Their codification is ANSI, not UTF-8, but even when I convert them to UTF-8, the subtitles are not working. Anyone know some solution?

Does the "try" version have all the features of the full version?
Because it doesn't show any of the subtitles, embedded or not.

yes, I have paid version and mine doesn't show subtitles either. at least audio works now. This app is amazing. Will be flawless once they add embedded subtitle support for mkv's.

It already has embedded subtitle support. Try tapping on the screen, and there's a button with either a bunch of rectangles or an x on the top right (under the volume) to turn subtitles on or off. You can also switch streams by swiping up from the bottom of the screen.
Otherwise, if that's not working, what format are your subtitles in?
I use a registered copy of ChewTune to rip iTune TV shops for watching on my TF700.
The transfer will state completed and apepar the correct size but about halfway to three Q's through the show it will free with a loud buzz.
Nothing I have tried such as moving beyond the point will help.
Tried several movies players with same results.
My question is there software that would scan the movie file and report or fix coding problems?
Thanks

Sounds to me like you either have something configured incorrectly in the ripper, or its buggy, but in either case it is unlikely a simple edit will fix the videos. The problem isn't likely a playback issue on your TF700, but try playing the vids on a pc and see if they work. If they do you might need to encode them differently. If not, then you might need a new ripper.
I am experiencing similar thing, but any show/movie stutters from beggining.
I use BS Player which worked perfectly fine until 4.2 version of android.
I think it is the ROM, not the movies. As mentioned, they work fine on PC/BoxeeBox - and they worked just fine on infinity, too - but not anymore.

Using MX Player on both 4.1 and 4.2 with no problems at all, perhaps your problem comes from BS Player.
I can second. I'm on CM10 using MX Player, and it can play my 1080p/5.1 bluray rips without any problems.

Been there, done that! Guys, loose both BS and MX and get Dice Player and all your problems will magically just go away! Works flawlessly over wifi too. Took me a month to figure this out and I had all your same issues. Thanks @jtrosky!!
Hello, Im new to android and new to MX Player as well. When I first use this app I did not regard it as usefull, but after sometime I again download it and try to compare with other Video player and atlast I got my favurite Video Player.
Anyway, thanks for developing such a wonderful and powerfull video player. May I request one feature which I regard it as very usefull for watching movie with good sound quality. I mean including Equalizer in MX Player in coming version.
Thanks.

It's already in the Feature Requests list. Always check there before making a request.
Two years later, will there ever be an equalizer for MX ?
FYI, I'm a willing buyer as soon as an equalizer is confirmed. I'm hearing impaired and without setting the frequencies I can't use the MX properly.

Same here! I do like this MX player, but I miss the VLC equalizer.
The nice thing about the VLC equalizer is, that it has a wide range, and 10 bands.
You can amplify frequencies up to 20dB. Many equalizers only go up and down 10 dB.
Nice about the MX player is that you can do a lot of adjusting to the way subtitles are displayed.

I have tried some of the equalizers like equalizer fx. Everything is working on my two test devices running on Marshmallow. Only thing is you have to ensure that the app is not suppose to be killed for battery optimization.
Yes it may some time inconsistent since the latest android devices doesn't provide option to select the default audio fx app. It might be the reason why the developers has stopped developing Universal audio processing apps.
10band equalizer will be great for audio geeks....
I will ask the MX Player developer about his plan for equalizer & update the status if any.

I was using this before, but as you suggested, it constantly loses audio focus.

It also interfered with the EQ that's built into Poweramp.

BTW, had a interaction with @bleu8888. FYI, equalizer is planned for 1.10. He is in a process to finalizing 1.9.0 & working on some other features. Once 1.9.0 is finalized to all android 4.0 users he may take up other pending features like Equalizer, Chromecast for 1.10.

I installed the Tesla ROM (20170507-1743) on my Moto G3 about a month ago. Everything seems to work fine but I can't play videos that I record. I see a fixed image from the start of the video and hear the sound. I tried MX Player in addition to the built-in player. YouTube is also erratic. Some videos play ok (e.g., The Late Show with Colbert) but others start and within a few seconds, the picture freezes while the audio continues to play. Any ideas what might cause this? I like the ROM a lot otherwise.
Try using the squid kernel and see if it fixes your issue.
There's unofficial build if you want to try that out?

I took the path of least resistance and flashed LineageOS 14.1. Video recording and playback works.
