Can Xoom run without sim at all - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have had my original Xoom for a long while now - not sure exactly the version (601 rings a bell) but it was early in the very first release. ( it has 3g and wifi)
I've always had a sim card in it, however it was deactivated LONG ago, but still worked on wifi etc. My little fella uses it for simple games etc, but at some point the sim came out and we lost the little bracket thingy that it sits in - i believe that's needed right ? its been so long.
So today after numerous reboots, I simply could not get it factory reset, so I ended up following some great guides here to unlock then load the stock rom on there - I chose the Telstra AU version for 601 as it was the only version that sounded right for me.
That all went great and easy, however, without a sim, on startup im getting the "Tablet is not provisioned ... " error, and there is no way to unlock it.
So a number of questions - will stock rom simply not work at all without a sim ? I tried to 'fastboot oem unlock' and boot up like that to no avail.
If it won't work without a sim, is there a quick and dirty custom rom that is stupidly easy to install ? I like how easy it was to load the stock rom - if there is something like that great, otherwise the instructions i've seen for custom roms seem a little too much for my time.
Any pointers appreciated - i just need to get it back to usable for a 7 year old with games - it would be nice to install custom rom with latest android so that he can play some of the newer games, but not if its tricky and will take too much of my time - in that case i'm happy to just use stock if i can get it working without sim.

please can anyone at least advise whether this tablet with stock rom should work or not without a SIM ? (obviously 3G version AU)

Straightforward guide to getting your Galaxy S2 SGH-I727 ICS on T-Mobile

Pre-requisites:
a) Rooted
b) CWM Installed
c) Sim Unlock Code
I could not find a straight forward way to get the ATT SGH-I727 Unlocked and working on T-mobile so I thought I'd make this short list of instructions for those going through the same trouble.
The first thing I had to do was unlock the phone. I contacted a local company that charged $35. Free options failed. Expect to pay. There were mentions of calling ATT for the unlock code which I did, however, the CSR looked up the IMEI and determined that the unlock code was not YET available. From what I gathered, because the original phone owner was still under the two year agreement, this unlock was on hold until that time period was up. Those that bought their phone outright without a contract are provided their code with a call to customer service.
With the phone unlocked, I still couldn't get the phone to connect to a T-mobile signal. With a tmob sim, either a no-signal icon appeared or the phone simply showed full ATT bars but wouldn't allow T-mobile use in options. Also, *#simunlock# would generate a com.android error.
Finally, the following formula allowed for an unlocked phone picking up T-mobile signal:
1. Install the STOCK ICS UCLF6 4.0.4 - UNTOUCHED - rom following the instructions on that page impeccably.
2. Install Busybox (may not be necessary)
3. Install UCLF6 modified boot Kernel
4. Install T-mobile compatible radio - Blaze_4G_LB7_ICS_Radio_MOD worked for me
Boot it and see if you have a signal. You may need to go to options and manually choose T-mobile.
After that, I was able to install a different ROM. I chose SKY-ICS 4.2F6-2.6.1
With any new rom, you will still need to flash a tmob supported radio.
My s.o. will be using this phone, so I won't be messing with other roms, unfortunately. Let me know if you have a fast and stable configuration.
I hope this helps.
Actually as the radio is deeper than the firmware we flash normally you should only need to flash a tmo radio once unless a rom has radio built in most all roms do not

Does it make a difference whether I install the stock ics and kernel you provided? All I did is update the phone to ics via kies, install a recovery, flash superuser, then installed the blaze 4g radio. Would it make a difference between doing what you said and what I did?

It works, but its very crappy, sometimes connects, sometimes doesn't, even followed this post's instructions, still has crappy connection
For those who have T mobile fine on the Skyrocket , how much DL and UP speeds are you getting (and compaired to true T mobile phones data speeds) ? I heard some say they never get more than ~1 or 2 mbps which sucks TBH
Heard this is the hot T-Mobile skyrocket radio.

Are you trying to get Call/Text connection or 4G HSPA+ Connect?
Works on WIND too!
I spend a while trying to get this phone working on Wind (Canada's 1700 AWS carrier, similar to Mobilicity / TMo). I've finally succeeded by doing the following.
1: Install latest ICS STOCK
2: Use CWS to flash AT&T UCLF6
I have not been able to get nearfield working with this modem, but it's working great other than that (albeit somewhat slow UL/DL speeds, but that's likely a more wind's crappy network than the phone). Let me know if anyone has any ideas regarding the Nearfield issue.
Just wanted to share. I have been made so freaking happy by the fact that this worked
I bought my SR for full price (549.99) months ago and stupid att also saying my unlock code is not available yet !!

[Q] [HELP] CM10.1 on K860 problems

Hi there
Im having trouble to get CM.10.1 working on k860. What happened is i downloaded the latest cm10.1 szb file and placed it in sdfuse after backing up all my files etc. Then when i flashed the rom- The phone allows me to use it without network coverage for a minute or two, then locks it. SIM lock- and my sim code does not work to unlock it.
The Overseas firmware rom works perfectly, and enables me to do all the things.. however, i want to switch to CM. i dont want to keep using it.
I tried to install the CM10 some time ago and I had the same problem, I thought it was a baseband problem that was related to CM programming. I cant find any details on how to unlock my phone. I dont think its locked onto the carrier because the first sim i used was a chinese sim bought in beijing.
Help.

[Q] Custom ROMs/install guides for XT1028?

After months of being stuck on my Verizon Moto G with a locked bootloader, I finally managed to obtain freedom via the recent update to the SunShine app from jcase. My phone was having some issues prior to unlocking, and it took me several hours of labor and installing/reinstalling things to finally get TWRP and any ROM going properly. I've worked with Android tablets and custom ROMs before, but this is my first time on a Verizon phone.
I managed to get the N5X ROM installed and running, but I couldn't seem to resolve issues with data/mms, which I presume are APN related; trying to enter new APN settings in that ROM wouldn't save for whatever reason, either. For now, I'm back on an optimized stock 4.4.4 image until I can get that figured out.
My question: Is there any list of custom ROMs that do specifically work with a Verizon CDMA/XT1028 Moto G? Does anyone have a guide to getting these ROMs working on Verizon prepaid service, including any APN adjustments that need to be made? Thanks.
Followup: Still trying to figure this out, but the N5X ROM will give me working data if I enable Data Roaming. I've attempted to update the PRL for Verizon via *228, but the phone status still shows as roaming even though my PRL has been updated, displaying my network as T-CDMA 64. Is this simply an issue with my phone not properly identifying roaming/non-roaming due to the custom ROM? Verizon has the best coverage in my area, so I want to make sure it is connecting to the proper towers (and I'm not ACTUALLY roaming). Thanks.

stock CM11 'Insert SIM Card', custom CM12 (and others) works fine

Got my new 64GB OPO a few weeks ago. It shipped with the oddball 28K stock and I've never gotten updates. So...
I've been trying to completely downgrade / stock flash my 64GB OPO starting with 22R. Everything works absolutely fine EXCEPT every signed CM11 (22R through 44S) I flash with fastboot I get no cellular signal (tmobile, works great otherwise) and an 'Insert Sim Card' error. If I flash anything with TWRP (ie custom CM11 / CM12 nightlies / Miui / OxygenOS / ColorOS / whatevarom) things work exactly as they should.
This isn't a sim card issue (tested my sim on another phone (works), tested another sim on my phone (doesn't work) - both results as expected). I also don't think it's a hardware issue with my phone as I do get cell service with every other custom rom I've flashed. I'm just not getting any sort of connection if I flash stock signed One Plus images. Maybe there was a hardware revision at some point? Maybe that's the reason for the 28K? [However there don't seem to be any full signed 28K stocks, and it didn't get updates when I had it to begin with, hence this whole quest]
Sacrilege I know, but I don't want root or custom recoveries or any of that stuff anymore. I just want regular OTA updates when they occur and a phone that I know is stock.
Ideas?

D2212: IN Version: Phone loses Network : Have restored Original D2212_18.5.B.0.26 ftf

HI Friends, (@Vinay)
I am new here, and have specifically registered to seek your help
I have D2212 IN version which was SIM unlocked.
Apparently, I was successful in
1) Unlocking the boot loader
2) Installing Vinay's Custom Nitrogen ROM
Subsequently, I used the phone happily for over 1month and problems started happening where Phone lagged so much that it became unbearable.
Also at the same time, I noticed my phone would lose its network.
I would get a X next to SIM indicator. No Signal. I swapped the SIM into other phone, the SIM works fine.
I put other working sim in the E3 D2212, again no Network. No Data (2G, 3G). Only WiFi works
So I decided to roll back to D2212_18.5.B.0.26_Customized IN.ftf via Flashtool
Still no dice. I still see no network.
When I hit *#*#7378423#*#*
I think (repeat think) the phone is SIM Locked.
No matter which slot (1 or 2) I insert it, I don't get Network or DATA
But I can certainly vouch the Same Vodafone IN SIM was working on the phone earlier.
Any help in this regards is greatly appreciated.

Did you flashed the stock rom correctly?
Well I thought so
HI @vincy009
Many thanks for responding. Appreciate your help.
Well I thought I did.
I referred to a few youtube videos to do it using flash tool.
Also, pls note, I also tried flashing back Vinay's Nitrogen ROM, that too would not get Network.
So,it was 100% issue with the way I was flashing the rom (Stock or other)
Eventually, I surrendered and sent the Phone to Sony who refused to fix it citing it to be out of warranty due to unlocked boot loader
So I had to submit to a local Mobile repair shop who fixed it.
But I am yet to ascertain what exactly he did.
In the mean time, I have already read the Newbie's Q&A and other threads where they explain how to use flash tool.
If there is an accurate thread/howto/etc, pls point me to that, so that I can avoid mistakes in future.
Maybe you done something wrong in flashing step or it wud have been any Lil hardware problem.. If wanna do new things always get a nandroid backup.. So it wont get mess up.
