MM port from Moto G2 to Moto G1 - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

We all know that Motorola has officially released Marshmallow for Moto G2 2014. Sunce the hardware isn't that different from the original moto g 2013, can we possibly see a port of stock Marshmallow to the original moto g soon?

We have CM 13 why do you want an MM there are AOSP ROM's as well

Cm and aosp bases roms for the moto g arnt the best on battery life. Some even have minor bugs. Stock moto roms are pretty solid and hence was interested on stock MM for the moto g 2013.

Are there any news about this? I am interested in the porting too.

Keep the thread alive attract the dev I will be happy if such rom comes at scene cz not a single rom is perfect even the fastest rom I have tried lacks multitasking and the stock 5.1 now feels too slow after using mm

There is a developer on the case, but I'm not saying who (if you can't work it out) because he needs to be left to do it in his own time.
But it will happen if at all possible.

yes but i quickly switched back to stock rooted. the snapshot build is laggy compared to the stock version (at least the launcher is when scrolling) and bluetooth did not work for me
Thanks I think I'll wait for stable releases to come shouldn't be long now

It's far from even being "OK".Stick to stock for the moment, it's not even comparable to CM11 atm.
The nightly are currently less buggy than snapshot m5

Mahdi Rom Request for Moto G

Can anyone here make a Mahdi Rom for Moto G?
with Mahdi, you wont need another custom rom or stock firmware ever again. it has the best features of custom roms
and stability of stock firmware. you wont need xposed/grabitybox.
Here is more info about the rom
https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/116540622179206449806
Would be awesome if someone here would be make it for the Moto G
have you tried asking the developer of mahdi rom?
Its available only on Nexus devices afaik. Its really good i've heard.
No harm in requesting the dev. though.

he says he cant do it because he does not have the device nor does the team and that the device has no source tree (whatever that means)
I have heard its good.. One of the reason I'm saving for a N5 or N4

Reason for poor development on Moto G?

I bought a Moto G when it had gotten really popular I thought development would be great on it. Its been anything but great.
Is Motorola the reason for it? Like are they not providing all the tools that the devs need? Or there are simply not enough good devs working on the phone?
Sent from my XT1032 using Tapatalk
Motorola is providing optimized software which is more than enough for most of users and devs...
Also you have official supports for some famous roms..
If development means porting touchwiz and sense themed roms then sorry.. You might never see that happening..
Poor? We have FAUX KERNEL! Also we have many good devs working for ROMs like Quarx and many more..
But yeah, stock roms is very good, so not everyone want custom rom
Buy some cheap chinese phone, then you know what is poor developement..

There is no stable CM, most custom ROMs have terrible audio quality. I came from the Nexus S so my frame of comparison is not a Chinese phone.

Quarx CM11 is stable if you ask me. And about audio quality, i never had such problems ( i use V4A though )
crDroid should be stable enough. Just notice that bugs with xposed are not supported

Ya using an audio mod is a different thing, out of the box most roms have significantly worse audio than stock rom and devs just don't seem to give a damn about that.
Officially CM is still stuck at M6.

I found that in my case custom ROMs have a much better audio quality than stock, but that's just my experience.

Poor development? There is almost every ROM available for the Moto G. Officially or Unofficially. I was looking for a ROM to build, but after going through countless forums, I still couldn't find much that isn't already there for the Moto G. The developers are active too. What more could you ask for?

Having a ROM and having a good ROM are 2 different things. I have used CM which was never stable and I have used Gummy ROM which had poor audio. I made a thread asking for a stable ROM with stock like audio and people said there is no such thing. Is that not enough?

Who said anything about being an audiophile? Expecting custom roms to have at least as good sound quality as the stock out of the box experience is not being an audiophile.
Mind you the Moto G has one of the best audio quality of 2013 phones. It's better than a lot of flagships.

Any sort of development done would be helpful right now. All we have is a root guide and a sometimes working/sometimes not TWRP recovery

Well audio is notably lower in loudness when compared to stock. Short to say, its degraded from stock rom. It's not a matter of low end mid end high end phone.

[DEV] CyanogenMod 12.1 Development Thread

Hello everyone.
I made this thread to show you guys the progress of CM support for the Motorola Moto X Style (Pure Edition). I am planning on becoming the maintainer for this device. Development on the kernel source, vendor tree, and device tree can be found in this GitHub organization. I am planning on ordering the Moto X the day it releases from Moto Maker.
Information I need:
Partition table for Moto X
[*]All the different Moto X model numbers (for a unified tree)
Moto X device codename
Boot radio value for every Moto X model
Status:
XT1572 (Moto X Style) - NOT COMPLETE
XT1575 (Moto X Pure) - NOT COMPLETE
If anyone else here is interested in helping in the CM bringup for this device let me know and I will add you to the organization.
Shawn
I should be able to help with it, depending on my time. My github username is HashBang173. Might also be a good idea to start a dev hangout.

Quick update...I know all of you are anxiously looking for some CyanogenMod and AOSP support for our new Moto X Style (Pure Edition). I will be reciving the new Moto X on Sept. 14. Shortly after me and @Hashbang173 will begin working on the device tree, vendor tree, and kernel source. Once we have stable CM repos I will convert the CM device tree into an AOSP one and build F-AOSP for our beloved device while co-maintaining CM with @Hashbang173.
Hope you all are excited!

Legit question, why do people buy this device with the sole intention of putting cm on it right away? Doesn't that negate the biggest seeing point being the moto apps?

Legit answer...I hate CM and prefer stock over it...But I prefer pure AOSP over stock. Everyone has their personal preferences. The reason I am doing the cm bringup is cause I know how to and I need a fully working cm device tree to compile AOSP

IMO the moto apps suck and will be the first thing I disable. AOSP is fine by CM and is a great base for AOSP type roms that happen to have some extra features thrown in. There are so many people that base their ROMs on their work that in turn make other roms etc which adds value to the development community. Options are good.
That is why people get excited. It means development for the phone which means options. If you are only interested in a stock experience all the more power to you. That isn't exactly what made this place great though.

[Q] cyanogenmod vs stock

I would like to know that if cyanogenmod performs better on moto g3 than stock or it's worse? I previously used xperia sp and official cyanogenmod was worse on it than stock.
In every way CM is 100% better than stock rom....

Has anybody run any benchmarks (like Antutu) on CM for this device? I have not seen any yet.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uSrK1Xv_SBI - The animations on the stock Moto G definitely seem way smoother than mine and apps seem to open faster as well. I'm running Cyanogenmod 12.1 latest nightly with Blu_Spark kernel.
edit: Actually no, my apps open faster than both devices but the animations still look smoother. I'm running Nova Launcher tho (with stock animations), not sure if the launcher messes up with the animation frames tho.
