downgrade to lollipop - General Questions and Answers

I have upgraded my moto g 2015 to marshmallow and I installed cm 12.1. Now I want to install stock ROM of lollipop .it says preflash validation failed.

Flash logo, boot, system, modem fsg and recovery.. Gpt and aboot will not be flashed now as they are updated, downgrade is not possible for bootloader versions but you can downgrade the system by flashing above partitions.

Downgrading to lolipop won't be possible now.Instead try to root and then flash a custom lolipop ROM .Before that goto moto assist and Motorola's official website and ask the question there there might be some solution.

[Q] How to install 5.0.1 GPE with working TWRP recovery and ROOT acces?

Hi all,
When I install a custom recovery, it(recovery) won't boot up because of CF auto root. I don't know why, it just doesn't work anymore. I've got the same problem on my Nexus 7 2013. But on the Moto G, this is harder to fix because the 5.0.1 GPE image for Moto G is not available yet. (You can only get 5.0.1 GPE using an OTA link)
I would like like to have 5.0.1 GPE with working TWRP recovery and root acces.
To achieve that goal, I'll need to do some tricky steps I guess.. Which I don't like to take.
The plan is to downgrade from 5.0.1 GPE to 4.4.4 GPE. There's no image of 5.0.1 yet, so this is the only way of getting a clean install (I guess.... please correct me if I'm wrong). Now there is this problem of Motorola phones which don't allow you to downgrade your bootloader.
4.4.4 GPE image does contain an older bootloader...
Now I found this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2542219
It says: '"Downgrading:
The 1st command "mfastboot flash partition gpt.bin" will fail on 4.4.2 to 4.3 downgrade. Skip this command if you are downgrading and continue with the other commands, which should work."
I need to know if it's going to work for 5.0.1 to 4.4.4 downgrade.
After I have a clean install of GPE 5.0.1 I'll flash TWRP recovery and ultimately I'll flash the newest supersu.zip via TWRP recovery.
Can anyone tell me if the way I want to downgrade is safe? Or do you have other suggestions?
Please let me know.
Thanks in advance!
Best regards,
Daniel

Help! Moto G Bricked

Guys help me Ibricked my moto g .Here is what i did
I have a XT1033 on stock lollipop with unlocked bootloader. So i first flashed cwm using fastboot, booted fine in recovery and back to system.
Then i again entered fastboot mode and flashed TWRP 2.8.5 for XT1032(There was no specific for xt1033). Booted fine into recovery , took a backup of entire rom .It was fine till now. Then when i booted into system the phone was stuck at boot logo. It kept on restarting again and again and when i entered fastboot mode to enter into recovery the recovery partition was also corrupted and it was stuck at teamwin logo.
but the bad things didnt end here. When i flashed stock firmware using fastboot the system sparsechunk files falshed with an error "FILE IS TOO LARGE". I tried both 4.4.4 and 5.0.2 but its still stuck at bootlogo.
PLEASE HELP ME DEVS

Happened with me once
Follow this:
1.Flash gpe 4.4.2 firmware( u may have xt1033 but still flash it)
2.Don't update the gpe to 4.4.4 or ur device will hardbrick(don't cry afterwards)
3.flash asian 5.0.2 firmware from fastboot
4.enjoy!
is it safe to flash gpe 4.4.2 over over 5.0.2
And if i flash it am i supposed to flash it with or without gpt.bin and motoboot.img
and also while flashing asian 5.0.2 are these two commands needed to be flashed.

is it safe to flash gpe 4.4.2 over asian 5.0.2(because flashing a gpe rom changes partitions on the device)
And if i flash it am i supposed to flash it with or without gpt.bin and motoboot.img and after flashing gpe 4.4.2 do i need to boot into OS or i need to directly flash 5.0.2 over it
and also while flashing asian 5.0.2 are these two commands needed to be flashed.
please reply
thanks
PS: Can you provide me the link to gpe 4.4.2 firmware and the fastboot commands i am not able to find them

Flashing fastboot files will never hard brick the device...just don't play with OTA's
and yes while flashing 4.4.2 skip gpt and motoboot and while flashing asian 5.0.2 no need of skipping

2 do i need to boot after flashing 4.4.2 gpe
and please provide the link for gpe 4.4.2 with fastboot commands because they are different from stock motoroms

Softbricked my Phone

I have a Moto G 2013 with a unlocked bootloader. German Retail and the Android Version was 5.0.2. I hate the look of lollipop. Because of this reason i flashed the 4.4.2 KitKat version via fastboot. After flashing I stucked at the "Unlocking Bootloader Screen". Then i read in many forums, that you can't downgrade because the bootloader versions are differnt. Now I installed TWRP via fastboot and right now i am using cm12.1. While i am wipping this device the recovery says that he can't mount system and other partitions. After searching the Lollipop Stock Rom i flashed the Lollipop version and the same problem. I would return to Stock Rom.
Thanks for all answers

XT1031 failed to flash stock 5.1

I first restore to stock 4.4.4 from CM11 by manually flashing falcon_boost_user_4.4.4_KXB21.14-L1.57_57_release-keys-cid9.xml.zip. Everything worked.
After that, I try to upgrade to stock 5.1 by manually flashing XT1031_FALCON_BOOST_5.1_LPB23.13-56_cid9_CFC.xml.zip with mfastboot. Every part seemed to flashed successfully, but when it is finished, it won't boot and stuck at bootloader unlocked screen.
Now I cannot downgrade to 4.4.4 since the gpt.bin and motoboot.bin all failed preflash verification. I guess the bootloader won't allow downgrade. Even with all other parts successfully flashed, it is still stuck at booloader unlocked screen.
I also tried to flash twrp 2.8.7.0, but it also failed due to partition size different. (Is it because twrp can only be flashed under 4.4.4 bootloader?)
So I am stuck now. Please help me. How do I flash stock 5.1 and later CM12.1? Thanks in advance.
Try flashing the firmware with RSD Lite and see what happens.
Sent from my XT1031
Fixed. I found a stock rom 4.4.4 downgrade package from here.
https://www.reddit.com/r/MotoG/comments/3omnox/moto_g_xt1031_boost_lollipop_stock_rom/
It has same contents as the 4.4.4 stock rom package I downloaded from filefactory, except there is a fastboot.exe boundled in this package (dated 6/25/2014) that is newer than the one I was using (dated 3/20/2013). This one successfully restored my XT1031 to 4.4.4 stock.
Flashed of twrp and also flashed stock 5.1 optimized from twrp. Both went well.

How to back to stock after upgrading to a nought custom rom in osprey.

i have flashed custom resurrection remix rom in osprey.but moto is showing that software status official in the fastboot page.thus i cant revert back to stock marshmallow as it is showing preflash validiction failed. Is there any way to fix this?
I don't think you understand what pre-flash validation failed means, you are trying to use an older bootloader or partition table (depending on where it fails), you need a newer firmware image. That has nothing to do with the custom ROM you have/had installed (ROM's don't modify things like bootloader, partition table, radios, etc).
