S6 and raw/dng in stock camera app? - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all.
I recently got a Samsung Galaxy s6 Edge. Loving the phone, but was surprised not to see raw support and shutter speed ability in the stock camera app, as last may I was convinced I had read that it was going to have an 'exciting' camera update. After some research, I discovered this had been updated and implemented in Android 5.1.1.
So does this mean even with the impending 6.0 update, that the only way to use raw or tinker with the shutter speed will be via a third party app? If so that seems a bit lame. Hoping someone out there can shed some light on this.
I do love my lg g4 but compared to the s6 edge it looks ancient, the camera capabilities are simply amazing though. That's why I don't get why Samsung hasn't made it accessible from their own app?

FYI I have manual camera and can't use raw mode, it's non exist for my phone. I can change the shutter speed though

[Q] Will Custom ROMs allow the Lollipop Camera API to work?

Today was a day of bad news. I just read this article and apparently the Lollipop update does not bring the new camera API to the Xperia Z1/2/3 series. I could cry!
Now I was wondering, since Custom ROMs can alter so much for a device, whether they can enable the camera API even though Sony doesn't. It would be awesome if there's a developer who could manage to do this - if at all possible of course. I was planning on making a video of these potential new camera controls, but I was surprised to see that Sony just didn't allow the API to be used (I don't know the technical details so correct me if I'm wrong about the actual phrasing there).
Do you have any thoughts on this? Are you a developer, and do you have any experience with this or similar APIs? I for one have no idea if it can be made to work with the Xperia Z1/2/3's camera at all. I'd love to know! :highfive:

I'm not entirely impressed with the camera either, and can't believe we have waited this long for Sony to release the lollipop update, which not only doesn't improve the camera, but its also just 5.0.. i thought the whole delay in the lollipop update was due to the initial quirks in the 5.0 build meaning they would roll out 5.1?
At this point in the game with the competition you cannot be releasing flagships marketed as the worlds best camera which is actually very mediocre. I'm truly disappointed in Sony and will likely not be holding on to my Z3 for much longer.
As it stands, have you tried the 20mp SuperiorAuto xposed module? I have seen quite a significant improvement, if you can live with the occasional crashes...

I was wondering about z5....but so many people are compaling about that device. And I have had a z5 in my hand, and it took awfull photos (low light). I was breaking my s6's back panel, BUT I re purchased the s6 yesterday again. I have tried the 6.0 with it, and looks promising ( I love the manual camera shutter sped control).
come back. this is a cheap device already, ($300-350), and there is non better on the market what have this huge amount of features like s6 (with 6.0 )
Why would you go back to a device where your main issue is the OS? That's just wierd.
Get a Nexus if you want AOSP.
The CM13 you are referring to in your OP is a TEST build and should NOT be used as a daily driver. Bugs, things are broken / not working.
Sounds like you might wanna research some other phones / brands before jumping back to a device your not comfortable with IMO.

im asking what about new firmwares, have them fix major galaxy s6 issues like ram management?
Samsung will release the gs6' sourcecode after the marshmallow release. This will make the custom rom community much more effective. Looking forward
Edit @renolzSry: I meant kernel sourcecode

Link to this statement please? I only heard they will be releasing the kernel source code like they allways do.
Cheers!

Use Selective focus, once captured, the saved image in Gallery allows you to save in different focuses.

i know but there is lot a difference between live focus and selective focus brother please check note 8 live focus and do not compare with selective focus.
I know, that only works if you have dual camera.

No, it can only work with 2 cameras, so unless you know a way of gluing on another camera, it ain't gonna happen.
The nearest we can get to it on the S8+ is by using selective focus or by using macro mode which can produce quite reasonable bokeh.
If so, how is it possible in A8+?

Sorry, I don't know the A8+.
The question was asked regarding the Galaxy S8+ specifically, and not all mobile phones in existence.
As you allude to, there are a multitude of devices that now implement a version of this using 'software' and the A8+ is probably one of these, as is also the Pixel 2 XL.
This hadn't been implemented on the S8+ at the time of my reply, but may now be present in some 'custom' ROM,s.
[Edit]
After doing some research on the A8+, I understand that it does actually have 2 front cameras.
It also notes that 'Live Focus' is available when taking 'selfies', ie using the '2' front cameras. In light of this, your 'trolling' of my original post makes absolutely no sense.
You're comparing apples (S8/+) to oranges (A8/+), one has a single camera on front and back = no 'Live Focus', the other has 2 on the front = 'Live Focus' when using front camera's.
Simple.

Director Mode (dual camera record)

Can this feature from the S21 be brought to the Z Fold 2? Or maybe it's already there and I just can't find it?
I remember this feature on my S8 on Android 8 and loved using it for capturing vacations and especially amusement parks!
It'll most definitely be there in oneUI 3.1 but if you want to use the stock camera app, you'll have to wait for that update. Not sure if other camera apps are capable of something similar though.

Camera Restrictions on 3th Party Apps

I got a new Samsung S20 Ultra with Snapdragon. The Mainreason was to use the Phone for professional Filming with the Filmic Pro App. I already got the same Phone in EU Version, all worked fine.
What i didn't know was the fact, that the Camera Performance is restricted with this Version so im not able to use it in 4K 60fps. Is there any way to solve this. Thank you very much for helping me
