I know that the GPE port doesn't have layers built in, but would it be possible to add the code from Cyanogen or another Rom that has layers built in?

This is the Development section, you should be posting this in Q&A, as you did not post any development.
But the short answer is no, not really...

It means we'll be able to have kernels built specifically for our device.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
Exactly what he said!^^^…it means no more trying to force fixes into kernels...possibly fix screen flickers in AOSP Roms without checking disable hw overlays on every reboot... Being able to make oc/uc settings stick better and possibly get more of the S3s stock features ported into AOSP Roms... In general it means greater possibilities for all future S3 development!
I was wondering why there were so few kernels.
I'm pretty new to all this. Can we use this to compile and install?

I'm pretty sure the android developers here would make more use of this than you and I.
Do aosp ROMs support NFC? Do they support mhl?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Xparent Skyblue Tapatalk 2
NFC does work.
you should title your threads better. you have two specific questions here, neither of which are addressed in your title.
Based on the thread title I thought it was yet another ROM suggestions thread.

Ill think of better title, i will probably switch it so others may ask questions about certain aosp ROMs. I'm a flashoholic and i haven't yet recieved my s3... Expect me to be all over the aosp ROMs and i would say making them work for Verizon/straight talk/page plus as i did on the e4gt forums....but this will already be Verizon. Silly me....

Stock ROMs are already built. They don't need building.

...and what will be "custom" about it? That's the real question.
If you don't know what you want to do to the ROM, there's nothing to.learn

Download & install Ubuntu, the android source code, and compile. Then make your changes.
Evaluate your skills, if any, you might be better at Kernel development than Rom cooking.
At the end of the day, simply put, if you want to create a custom ROM, no whatever what base you use, straight up source or someone else's, you have a lot of reading to do, A lot of friends to make and definitely not post a thread about how to even start.

True i'm not a moderator, but this was posted in the wrong place, and it clutters up the real purpose of that forum, that's all.
Either way, it's been sorted, I messaged a moderator to move the thread, so it's in the right place now.

The forum is, but not the subforum. You posted in the wrong section but a Mod just moved it into the correct section for you. To find a 'stable' L Rom, just look at the comments that other users have posted under the L Roms. The Unofficial CM12 one is pretty stable and DD capable at the moment in my opinion. So is the Resurrection Remix L Rom.

Well RR rom L is not that stable because a bunch of users are commenting on the forum that there are a bunch of Bugs so I'll see cm12..

I am using CM12. I tried two different Nightlies with no issues at all. See my post here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2495753. It's a CM11 thread but if you read starting from the last post you will see my entries related to CM12.

CM12 is great if you can live with the bad camera quality , low speaker phone volume and no auto rotation. Else , the G2's Lollipop is pretty darn stable .
Exodus 6 was just posted on afh flashed it already and seems solid thank u dev for bringing this rom to clark
Speaking of AFH, I wonder how many people here have ever donated to them for free ROM hosting?
I try to send $5 once in awhile. Just did again a few minutes ago, matter of fact.
https://www.androidfilehost.com/
Is Exodus pretty bare boned as far as features go at the moment? I loved the ROM on my Nexus 6 but I'm a sucker for lots of customization, also is it layers based or cmte? Thanks don't want to flash unless I know a little bit about what it brings to the table.

Could you please give infos about the features?
Does it have DT2W, Notification LED and/or CMActions? Is it possible to install Moto Camera from Play Store?
