Alternating Firmware on my SM-P907A - Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Alright, Question first:
Is it possible (obviously not recommended) to put firmware for a similar version, like SM-P905 on my SM-P907A?
Details:
To keep a long story short, my device is soft-bricked. I can boot into Recovery Mode and Download Mode. Fastboot is over my head with the tutorials I've found. The file system is corrupt and it can't/won't mount. I don't really see too much information available for my case with my device and I don't understand what can be interchanged and what can't. I've tried to re-partition, flash multiple times using Odin (always ends in "Pass!"), and factory reset the device all to no avail. I read some articles on flashing to the original firmware, and I would flash to the original firmware, but the only source I was able to find it from says that it'll take about 2774 weeks to download (P907AUCU1AND7 for those of you who're curious). It's an AT&T carried device by default, but I don't want, nor need a SIM card in my device, so that'd rule out any need for 3G, LTE, etc. However, Wi-Fi is needed. I don't really have any experience using custom roms (cyanogenmod, CWM, Pac-Rom, etc (not that my device isn't support by them anyways)). Besides the 3G/LTE aspects, I saw that the 907 and 905 use the same hardware which is why I ask: Could I flash to custom or stock rom for the 905 model to my 907 model and not hard brick my device?

With a fast and stable Internet connection the files here worked. Took a few tries to get some of them to successfully complete the download. About one hour. http://forum.xda-developers.com / galaxy-note-pro -12 / general / sm-p907a-att-version-news-t2850564

[Q] things to be aware of when flashing firmwares..?

Hi,
I have rooted my samsung S6 set using pingpong root.
Im plagued with the battery drain issue, so i will like to revert back to stock to see if there is any OTA updates for my phone.
But to do that, i will need to unroot and then flash a stock firmware to get the ota working once again, right?
Now how do i go about choosing a firmware for my phone, seems like there are many options to be chosen from in sammy mobile webbsite.
Are there any difference between if i were to choose my country against another country version?
In what cases will i potentially brick my samsung s6?
If you flash a stock ROM with Odin, you won't need to worry about unrooting first, as flashing will do that for you. You may like to enter recovery and factory reset just to clear anything that may be left behind though.
And as for selecting which one to flash, it's generally best to go for your own country's one, as they are usually optimised for your local differences (like the radio, I believe). The main thing to look out for though, is to only flash a ROM for your actual device model. For example, if your model number is SM-G920F, only flash ones for that actual model.
If you go to the general section in the S6 forum, there is a thread with the main selection of carrier ROMs there. Check that out

newbie seeking help: which rom and how

greetings,
I recently inherently a Samsung Note Edge (SCL24). The phone is showing its age. It is on its default rom (4.4.4) but many things aren't work. For example, it is extremely slow; it won't remember wifi passwords, etc. I am hoping that by flashing a new rom I may bring it back to life.
The spec is listed below:
SCL24
Adroid 4.4.4
Baseband: SCL24KDU1ANJ3
as I am browsing through this forum, I am a bit confused as to the flashing procedure. Assuming it is the same as every other phones I have flashed, I suppose I would need to root it, install a recovery, possibly a new basebank, and then a new rom.
Is there a guide as to how to do this for this particular phone? It has been a while
any help, and suggestion as to which rom to flash, would be very much appreciated.
ps. I am not looking for anything fancy, but in the past I've always used slim rom.
regards,

Try a factory reset first.
done that many times
This phone was purchased in Hong Kong and other than the model number "SCL24" I couldn't find any other information. Judging from this forum, looks like there are many variations on this phone (vendors in North America, Japan, and others common in south asia). Also from this forum I realized that I probably need to update the baseband in order to flash any new ROMS (post kitkat).
Hence I seek your help,
regards,

Interesting.
Is this an international phone?
I tried asking about custom ROMS for my phone (don't want brick it) and didn't receive any responses.
I did do a Google search and didn't find much of anything.
I did download Marshmallow from Sammobile and have been gutting pretty heavily.
I guess after this much time, interest is fading.
problem solved, for now
As I mentioned earlier, this phone was purchased in Hong Kong and the model number was listed as SCL24. Following the thread on Project_ECSTASY (https://forum.xda-developers.com/no...rojectecstasy-custom-rom-galaxy-note-t3545658), I managed to flash the "Global edition stock rom without any bloatware from carrier au" using odin. The step I followed was:
1) installed samsung USB drivers for the phone (directly from samsung website),
2) downloaded and executed Odin,
3) rebooted the phone into Odin mode (vol down, home, and power),
4) connected the phone to computer via USB,
5) updated the rom through Odin.
6) once the phone rebooted, factory reset
I have not had much opportunity to play with the phone but it seemed to be working thus far. I have not had a chance to put a SIM card into it so I don't know if the new rom/Odin also flashed a new baseband and if the radio works.
will report back tonight,

Phone reboot loop. Help find the correct firmware

Hi,
I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 that's causing all kinds of issues. Originally it had google FRP. After watching some videos on youtube, I installed combination firmware and after enabling developer option and flashing with some firmware, phone booted, started setup but halfway though the initial phone setup, it will power down and reboot to the same point. Tried various firmware but same result each time. I somehow think I still haven't loaded the correct firmware. Need help identifying which firmware I need or if there's something else.
on the back of the phone, it has SM-G930UZKAX. When I loaded this combination firmware (may not be the correct one), in about phone, it shows my model is SM-930V! Not sure why it's different than the sticker. Please advise how I can obtain the PDA, CSC, etc so I can get the correct firmware.
Much appreciate any help.
Thanks

Galaxy J7 2015 wipe system using ODIN ?

good evening all,
yesterday i've installed a custom ROM over a custom ROM which was installed previously on my J7 2015 phone and now my phone can' boot up, i can't see the bootlogo and can't access to the recovery mode i can only reach the download mode, i've tried to boot it in safe mode but unfortoneitly didn't work.
i am asking if there is anyway to wipe the phone system using PC (odin or something) in order to fix the system crash that caused my problem and install a stock rom properly.
thanks.

Whatever you do, DO NOT USE THE "NAND ERASE ALL" OPTION IN ODIN.
It will only damage your device. I don't even know why that option is there, I have never seen a scenario where that option has ever helped anyone. Everyone that has ever used it only ended up with a non-repairable device.
Yes, you can try finding the firmware for your specific model number of J7 then flash it using Odin.
If your device is an international(non-carrier branded) device, there will be a list of available firmware for your model number, each firmware on the list is for different regions/countries/carriers, you will need to find the correct firmware for your region/country that has the correct three letter region/carrier code for your carrier in your country.
If you don't know your three letter region/country/carrier code, do a Google search for:
"Region code for (your country) (your carrier)"
For example, for my device, I would search for:
"Region code for USA(my country) StraightTalk(my carrier)"
Once you find the list of available firmware for your device, find the most up to date firmware that has the same three letter region/country/carrier code that you need.
Then flash the firmware via Odin.
Or, you can even try using Samsung SmartSwitch on PC, it has a couple of "somewhat" automated troubleshooting/recovery processes that might repair your device depending on what got corrupted.

Is Download Mode part of the Odin BL bootloader file? Some other file?

Is the Download Mode part of the BL/bootloader file (the thing you flash with Odin)?
If not, then that part of the phone is never updated? Then it would also never be possible to permanently brick the phone with Odin as you always can came back to Download Mode and fix it, right? Or is it part of another section/file/category in Odin? The Modem part maybe?
I have a second-hand S7 whose Download Mode says it is a SM-G930V, but the system shows SM-G930F in all the areas where you can see that. Some CPU revealing tool believes to see a Snapdragon processor, so I believe someone flashed G930F parts to make the phone fit or fitter for Europe (if that is possible...).
Can I try to randomly flash whatever the phone accepts via Odin or could I end up in a state where not even Download Mode works?

The recovery is located in the EFS partition which stores all the original parameters of the device. If download mode is showing G930V, that's the original hardware and software of the device.
It is a complicated process to flash a firmware like G930F which is simply not designed to work with a Qualcomm processor. This forum is littered with horror stories where an American device has been modified to work in another region. G930V to G930F and the phone either dies or has limited functionality. Attempt this at your peril!!
Do not modify the EFS partition unless you know exactly what you are doing.
One more thing, American devices have a different network connection standard to Europe and other countries. So even if you do get G930F to work it will never have full functionality outside of the region it was designed to operate in. Network connection is largely hardware dependant rather than firmware dependent.

Unfortunately, you have not read my post properly. Neither do I intend to turn it into a G930F (it already is as far as I can see), nor did you answer any of my questions (Can an odin flash with “random data” prohibit any future flash with proper data which would bring the device back to working state?).

I did read it properly and i did answer, i told you what goes where and what you can and can't do with the phone. It's obvious you can't just flash "randon data". But since your response is so rude i'll no longer help.
I don't know where download mode is stored, but yes you can brick a device to the extent even download mode in inaccessible. Usually you need a USB jig to save it.
I wouldn't say flashing anything Odin accepts is a good idea, counter-intuitively it will let you flash files that can brick your device even if they're not the correct files for your device.
But the phone does have read only data you can't modify, which is what download mode displays. It's also why you can't reset Knox once it's tripped.
As for your device I don't know the specifics but yes certain parts of the firmware can be modified to change what the phone shows in system information.
It's a common scam to sell broken contract or stolen US snapdragon devices, rebrand them as G930F and sell them internationally to evade any US carrier blacklists.
Your best option would be to flash the generic unbranded G930U firmware, it's the closest thing to a clean debloat you'll get on a G390V.
Yes it is: Download mode is part of Bootloader..you can compare it to the BIOS of a Pc,it only contain the basic "drivers" to manage essential functions like video or usb.
And yes, until you got a functional BL you can always recover your device (exept EFS partition that contain univoque data like imei or serial number)
