Does the Mate 8 have a version of Double tap to wake? First world problem, but that's kind of a mandatory feature for me these days. I find using phones without it to be frustrating. The only exception is a phone with a very responsive ambient display as a substitute.
No.

No, but for me its not a problem as i use the fingerprint wake up and unlock. Its matter of preference.
Maybe it would be possible to find a solution like the one for the Nexus 6P:

Thanks, but I'm not a fan of the fingerprint reader in general. Tried using it on my Nexus 6P and it just wasn't my cup of tea. It also asked for my passcode way too often when I had the lockscreen security set.
I tried modifying the proper file in the cust partition to enable double tap support and also in the hwmwlauncher.db file in data /data and double tap still doesn't work. It's probably disabled in the kernel. Plus it's really not necessary when you have a fingerprint scanner although I know some of you want it.
I don't understand why huawei is not enabling it. It would be a great feature because when your phone is on a table... you have to catch the power button to wake up the screen and see what time is it for exemple or your notifications... the finger print in the back is great except in this case.
I hope that DTW will be added in a future ROM.
IMHO for the new smartphones DTW today is a must, whereas Huawei knuckle gestures (Knuckle Sense) are of limited use, if not unnecessary.
I agree, fingerprint reader located on the back is useless when the phone is on the table, and moreover it requires that the fingerprint use and the lockscreen are enabled.
If you're willing to do xposed, your best bet is to get the ambient display option from the xposed module and use that instead of dt2w.

Hello all,
I see a thread the MN2 allows for touching screen to turn on. Am I missing anything with the SW2 and the ability to touchscreen to turn on?
Seems all other smartwatches have this ability in some way either by touching or lifting arm up. Thoughts?
Thanks
p.s.
Look forward to someone rooting this thing.

To answer your question admiral no, the SW2 can't be turned on from a tap or a flick of the wrist. The Pebble has an accelerometer in it that determines the wrist movement to activate the backlight and I think it has a touch sensor in the frame (don't quote me on that) to make the tapping work. Sony hasn't implemented that here which is annoying I suppose but I don't see it as a problem.
If you install a custom watch face such as this then yes, you can tap to see the backlight come on and wait for it to dim out again but, this also makes the three buttons below active as well. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kaybit.smartwatch.customwatch

have this feature for honor 8?
How?
maybe root needed?
Not truly possible. There are apps (that don't need root) but you end up A) killing your battery life and B) losing or at least decreasing the functionality of unlocking other ways like with the fingerprint scanner.
You can try this and see if it works lol

Just a bit off topic: What do you think causes the 10 buck flip-case that Honor sells to cause the phone to wake and sleep? Is it magnetic, or just using some sensor it uncovers? I got one with the phone and it works great, and there appears to not be anything magnetic inside it, or even a piece of ferric metal.
Anyway: Whatever it is that allows that must be very low power because there is next to no drain (especially on the b360 OS I installed today) when it's closed. Nothing appears to be setting around sucking up power awaiting the incredible event of the cheapo case opening or closing. There is a setting for it in the settings, but I've no idea what the settings changes. Actually I suspect that link in @Saythis post could work.
you can try some xposed modules but the battery will drain faster
Not possible for now, the honor 8 kernel doesn't support it
You can try to follow instructions from this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/hu...ide-how-to-enable-double-tap-to-wake-t3426809 . This is for Huawei P9 Lite, but the script of Kernel, i think is the same. The only inconvenience is you must root your phone.

As always on XDA and with any modification, ROM, Kernel, etc. the risk is up to the user. I tried it and couldn't get it to work so I suppose the Honor 8 has a missing module/driver for it in its kernel.

It should not work if the kernel isn't identical on both devices

EMUI supports it regardless of the kernel. The kernel doesn't need to be identical on both devices, it simply needs to have the module/driver to keep the screen capacitive when the pixels are off for DT2W. The display also has to be able to remain capacitive while the pixels are off. So no, the kernels don't need to be identical. There's a hardware requirement as much as there's a software (kernel support and OS support) requirement.
The Honor 8 doesn't support the use of double tap to wake, you could just use the fingerprint scanner on the back to wake it. Which is super fast!

Depends on your perspective. I'd like the tap to wake function if I had my handset on the desk while I was working rather than have to pick it up to check for messages, emails or miss calls.
Do you guys not have the "wake on notifications" setting ? That wakes it for any notification (or it does as I've got it set on b360 right now, but it worked on b320 as well).
Also, I mentioned before that the 10 buck flip case turns on the screen and I can't even find a piece of magnetic metal in that cheap case, so it might be using some sensor and there is a setting for it also in the settings. (case-on == on). Gotta be a way between these things.
I was wrong about the magnet: I found it using a paper clip and it is the lower half of the screen-facing area on the honor8. It's a "slight" magnetism and apparently the settings switch enables it's detection. I was hoping it was using a different type of sensor that we could spoof.

Try "Glance Plus" from Google Play. I use it on my H8 and it works just the way I want.
Wave hand over proximity sensor to check for messages, missed calls, date, time and battery status, it's configurable. To wake up your phone, double tap on screen.
Can't give you a link, I'm a new user, but find it at Google Play!
The glance is a better Idea for me

I will definately look into that! Sounds like a great way to check the notifications without having to use the fingerprint scanner.
Can anyone help.
I can't find the option to enable the double tap to wake the screen on my Xz Premium.
It's on my wife's Xz.
Thanks

Yeah, seems like Sony has removed that feature on XZs and XZ Premium
I hope they add it back. I wonder if it's something to do with the 4k screen? Does anyone know if it's on the z5 premium?

Hello dvdman2k,
Yes the double tap to wake is on the Z5P; however I found it something of a mixed blessing as was inclined to wake from unintentional screen touches while in a pocket (in the Style Cover SCR46 with the active window). Having just migrated to the XZP I'd noticed the feature's absence, but almost with some relief !
Regards,
Kevin
PS. Having now used the device for a week or so, I've changed my opinion. There are some occasions when the Double Tap function would be very good to have. Others when I'd prefer it turned off (eg. to prevent inadvertent activation while in a jacket pocket). So my conclusion is that I'd like to see the functionality re-instated in the ROM , but with a user-controlled toggle in Settings so that it is flexible to suit requirements.

Hi kevinpwhite
Coming from Moto Z I liked the feature where you could wave hand over the display and it would wake up & the finger. Print reader is on the front of the phone.
Sometimes I want to wake the screen without pressing the power Button.
Thanks

I have double tap to lock using Nova Prime as my launcher. I don't use double tap to wake even when available because too often the screen starts up when the phone is in your pocket. However, I do wish that the fingerprint reader would unlock the phone WITHOUT having to actually press the button in just like most fingerprint readers work. Maybe they could make it work this way? In fact I am sure they could because when you are setting up your various fingers for access you do not have to push the button in. In fact if you accidentally do push it in while registering your prints it will close the screen and you have to start all over. SO I believe they could make it live/active just like any other fingerprint reader. How do we actually get these requests to Sony directly? I also wish they would unlink the ringtone volume from the notification volume.
Things might change in the next update.

This is a mandatory feature for me. I won't buy a phone without it. In fact, I pretty much need to have lift-to-wake and/or some kind of always-on-display. Pushing a power button to turn on your phone is so 2015.

Per my earlier comments, I was initially slightly relieved after the Z5P's tendency to turn on when not wanted; however, have now revised my opinion and think it would be very useful - but needs a user-selectable toggle to suit circumstances. This approach has been mooted to the Developers on the Sony Forum (they've acknowledged) and there is quite a strong voice of similar views from other users. The more strength of feeling, the more likely the feature will be re-instated in a F/W update.... :fingers-crossed:
Best regards,
Kevin
if it really bothers you, you can just buy a roxfit urban slim case for it like i have. After using a xiaomi mi5 with tap to wake , its hard going back to the old ways lol, plus less pressing on physical buttons, the longer the hardware lasts!
please bring back
Try this to wake: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jarsilio.android.waveup&hl=en
Install Nova Prime for double tap to lock.
Works great. There are other apps that do similar things in the play store. YMMV
You can always buy the official case that has a screen unlock feature. Because of it I no longer see the need of double tap to wake but it would be handy to have. I am annoyed this feature is excluded though.
Any suggestion for a simple app to do the double tap wake/lock?
Ive been using https://kernel.andro.plus/yoshino.html for DTW
Of course you need a Unlocked Bootloader
Now I'm using WaveUp, it's not like the double tap but works well for both locking and unlocking. And it has a "pocket mode" for unlock the display when you take it out from your pocket, very useful.
I'm facing a bug after update to OxygenOS 10.3.3.GM57AA on my One Plus 7
in deep sleep mode (long time after lock screen condition) the "tap to show" ambient display fiture doesn't work so I have to press the power button to turn the screen on.
I didn't even face that problem before update
any solution for that?
thank you
This problem has been going on since 12 beta, there is no solution yet.
When there is light, the tap works fine, as soon as it gets dark, it stops working.
Probably the sensor calibration will help, but the command *#808# does not work.
yes you are right. it seems like sensor bug
hope there will be an update for this bug
After the 10.3.3 update, in June 2020 ( India) when the phone sleeps, no amount of 'double tap to wake' wakes it up, Fingerprint scanner doesn't show and Ambient display doesn't work.
My phone model is OnePlus7 GM57AA.

Someone suggested to uninstall OnePlus launcher sand reinstall the same. Didn't help

The problem is really annoying and has been present for some time and even in the latest beta firmware it has not been resolved, a temporary fix is possible, pending a definitive correction of the defect by oneplus, but root is required. You can find the fix here.

I love the performance of this phone, so I use it for my daily driver. I'm not going to root this phone because there is an app that requires non-root device.
just waiting for an update or sell this phone. haha

Magisk - the root solution commonly used - has the ability to hide root from apps. You can use MagiskHide to hide root from your app after rooting the phone. Your app won't know that the device is rooted.
Hello,
This is my first post probably after 6-7 years.
In my Pixel 7 Pro [which is a little over one month and one week old] I have found the onscreen FP scanner does not always work when the phone is in AOD mode. If I touch the FP scanner nothing happens; it feels as if it is an image LOL.
Searched internet a bit and found this phenomena is a common problem with phones that have onscreen FP scanner [perhaps more specifically with optical scanner? I dunno].
Checked the solutions and none worked until I found out that if my default finger [which happens to be my right thumb] does not activate the FP scanner it has always been my left thumb that works perfectly fine. It is as if the Scanner was waiting for my other finger to press LOL.
Both my thumbs are clean/have same state of cleanliness during operation.
I think this could be helpful to those who probably scratch their head wondering as to why the FP scanner does not work in AOD. If you have more than one finger assigned, just try the other one.
This also raises a question to me [which might be lame], is Google doing it intentionally requiring the other fingerprint sometimes?
Agreed. Fingerprint scanner is unreliable regardless of AOD. Adding multiple fingers can help, but the reader is just wonky (that's a technical term)
It's worthless. Such an aggravation I just use the login code.
Don't know what you people are doing, my fingerprints (both thumbs) work just fine, once in a blue moon it might miss the first time, however I have never had a failed fingerprint unlock from either AOD or lock screen.
I never have issues with my fingerprint scanner on all 4 fingers I added
