Auto On Ability - Sony Smartwatch

Hello all,
I see a thread the MN2 allows for touching screen to turn on. Am I missing anything with the SW2 and the ability to touchscreen to turn on?
Seems all other smartwatches have this ability in some way either by touching or lifting arm up. Thoughts?
Thanks
p.s.
Look forward to someone rooting this thing.

To answer your question admiral no, the SW2 can't be turned on from a tap or a flick of the wrist. The Pebble has an accelerometer in it that determines the wrist movement to activate the backlight and I think it has a touch sensor in the frame (don't quote me on that) to make the tapping work. Sony hasn't implemented that here which is annoying I suppose but I don't see it as a problem.
If you install a custom watch face such as this then yes, you can tap to see the backlight come on and wait for it to dim out again but, this also makes the three buttons below active as well. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kaybit.smartwatch.customwatch

Screen Off During Phone Call

[FONT=&quot]On the touch pro, the screen off during a phone call feature is a big annoyance especially if you have to enter number after dialing (passwords, pins, or any other touch tones)[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]I absolutely hate the iPhone with a passion. However, I do admire the heatsensitive screen during a phone call. When you put the phone up next to your ear the screen turns off to avoid keypresses, and when you bring it away from your ear the phone screen automatically turns back on. [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]I'd like to emulate this function on the touch pro. I say emulate because obviously the touch pro does not have a heat sensor. My initial thought was using the accelerometer configuration in the Gyrator program. [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]I've disabled screen off and quick sleep via Shaps advanced config tool. I added the event in Graytor that when in the Phone program and in portrait orientation then turn screen off.[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]However, there are some issues with this. I'd like to do this when call only, not in the entire phone program. Also, I can't seem to get the screen to turn back on when the phone is returned to face_up orientation.[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]If anyone has any insight, or if this issue has been already posted, or if you have any other ideas I'd love to hear them. [/FONT]
This cab will keep the backlight on during calls: http://www.ppcmobility.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1885&postcount=13
I think what you're better off looking for from a development perspective is something that uses the light sensor (it's just inside of the headset speaker) so if it's dark the backlight is off...light and it's on. Currently the sensor dims the backlight under preset conditions but does not control on/off.
Thanks for the response. I can just make the regedits myself for the backlight always on. But I don't want to do that because then I can press keys on accident.
I do like the idea about the lightsensor though.
you can install slide to answer which includes a canvas that covers the screen like this:
hey, I was trying to avoid that solution, thanks for the post though,
anyone have any ideas on how to use the light sensor or gyrator to do this?
I disable the phone skin and my phone stays on during phones calls. It also got rid of the ring/caller ID delay.
but disabling the skin also gets rid of bluetooth notifier wether its on or not and of course you have the old buttons (yuck)
This is going off topic. I am not looking to keep the backlight on.
I hated it too I think this is what your looking for.

The problem with this CAB is that is changes the G-Sensor Polling to a ridiculous number like 10000, and that causes issues with any programs that rely on the accelerometer to rotate the screen automatically.

Oh I dont use any of the G-Sensor apps I only go to landscape when I use the HW keyboard which is rarely so I wouldnt have noticed. For me if it was between the G-sensor apps or the phone turning off during a call I would choose the phone not turning off. Sorry if I caused any issues to anyone.

i would take this 'hit' as well... i see it's not too definite of a fix but... the screen turning off during calls is weak.
*installs no sleep*
I don't think anyone is understanding what I am asking for. I am not asking for a way to keep the screen on during a phone call or to avoid turning it off.
I am looking for a developer to make a program that uses the TP's light sensor durning a phone call to AUTOMATICALLY turn screen on and off.
Example:
When there is full darkness(Phone is up to your ear) - turn the screen off
When there is light shown(Phone away from ear) - turn screen on
I need this but only during phone call.
I am not an expert but I think you have a problem here as the light sensor doesn't work in sleep mode
No it's not a problem.
It's a feature I want implemented using the light sensor.
lol, i think it is rediculious that people dont read his question (who can create a file/program that automaticly change with screen on/off).
Looking forward to see a change, because the screen goes ON or OFF manually isnt the solution.
Whoever makes this guy's program will be a hero.
I like that the screen turns off when I put the phone to my ear but it is annoying to have to turn it on again to enter pin numbers. Especially if you use the autolock feature as this means when the phone is awakened its back on the home screen. By the time I get back to the phone app and into the keypad it's often too late to enter my pin!

N9 like unlock gesture Android?

Hey guys!
As many of you might also know, Nokia has recently unveiled its new flagship - the N9 with MeeGo.
I thought there are two interesting things maybe also to have for Android:
1st the tiny clock when the phone is locked
2nd the gesture to wake the phone by tapping the screen twice
Luckily I already found a solution for my first question, an app called Off Clock. But still I am not 100% satisfied with it, as it merely is an app running rather than even running after the lock screen switched off. And also the clock is a little too big for me, but not such a big point... Maybe someone has a solution for that or can refer to another application?
For the 2 tap functionality I haven't found anything yet but i also think it is quite interesting. It should just work like this: In sleep mode double tap the screen and it wakes up and unveiles the lockscreen.
In an recent article from Engadget named "Nokia N9 first hands-on! (update: video)" in the hands on video you should find both things described above. (cannot yet post links...)
Thanks is advance!
IQHU
Does really nobody have an idea for the doubletap wakeup thing?
It would be highly appreciated!
some what like it
its called tap tap app. u tap your proximity sensor but its close. its an attempt lol

Bezel Lock app

Hi All,
The gear S3 is great but I'm missing an option to lock the bezel functionality. When my sleeve is touching it is rotates the bezel and is annoying. Also like motioned in other post during sleep this is annoying. We have the always on function to make it look more like a classic watch but if with each movement the dial is turned it kind of misses this point. Or worse unintended take a answer a phone call with your sleeve...
Is there an app for this? If not this is a call to any developer. It can be a quite simple app that can be linked to the dubbel push of the second button: bezel lock on/off. Or maybe in the quick settings when sliding down...
Are there more people whom wish this option was there or am I on my own?
Thanks!
Impossible to code this. As soon as the app is not in the foreground, it will be suspended ...

Think out of the SDK, it is a linux with Xwindow
An app for to lock bezel since night was a must have !!!
I'd buy such an app. Tried wearing while sleeping and the bed/pillow constantly wake my watches screen. Ugghhhh.
I looked into this a little, X Window subsystem totally allow you to disable all the input devices including bezel and turn the display off forever, like android wear's theater mode.
To put watch into theater mode;
Code:
#disable all input devices using xinput
xinput disable 4
xinput disable 5
xinput disable 6
xinput disable 7
xinput disable 8
xinput disable 9
xinput disable 10
xinput disable 11
xinput disable 12
xinput disable 13
#turn the screen off
xrandr --nograb --output LVDS1 --off
#todo disable wake up gesture,
#put watch into dnd somehow!
To disable theater mode;
Code:
#enable all input devices using xinput
xinput enable 4
xinput enable 5
xinput enable 6
xinput enable 7
xinput enable 8
xinput enable 9
xinput enable 10
xinput enable 11
xinput enable 12
xinput enable 13
#turn the screen on
xrandr --nograb --output LVDS1 --auto
xset dpms force on
#todo enable wake up gesture if it was enabled,
#disable dnd if it wasn't enabled, somehow!
#restart w-home package, otherwise touch input wont work
pkgcmd -k -n com.samsung.w-home
Now the problem is although X Window allows you to do this, Tizen has a developer only restriction here. This commands only work for "developer" user account via shell. The "app" user that apps run on cannot access current X Window display. So everyone who wanna install this app need to install Tizen SDK into their computer, shell into watch, put enable_theatermode.sh and disable_theatermode.sh files into some directory that app can access and set SUID for this files, so when app called them they can run with "developer" user rights.
Because of this huge restriction, i decided to let it go and wait Samsung's official support if it ever comes
Wrote this in case anyone wanna create that app regardless.
Thanks 10urshin for looking into this.
pff if thats the case we need to wait until Samsung realize this is a wanted feature...I'm doubting that will ever happen.
Anyone an other idea?
Thanks!
This bit me last night, I sleep on my stomach and the watch face is usually pointed at my face, and I kept rotating the bezel turning the bright face on. if the watch is going to keep lighting up or alerts going off, then it totally defeats the purpose of wearing it while you sleep.
I think the only way to get this function is to wait until the bezel stops to work itself, as in my case. I have to send my Gear S3 to Samsung assistance for repair
Screen Lock Gear, from Jan Konvalinka, available in the Gear App Store.. Works really well..

Found a solution to the sliding bezel
I was also disappointed with the bezel sliding so easily, as I mainly use the watch as a watch, and want to be able to view my primary watchfaces, not the AOD setting or some other function. As there did not seem to be a software solution, I thought outside the box and came up with a quick and simple hardware tweek that works great, and also gives me control over when to slide the bezel. I did a post yesterday on it, but here's the solution again:
Take a length of cotton thread, preferably black, and wind it round tight under the bezel so it cannot be seen. The more times you wind, the more difficult it will be to move the bezel. Two or three winds should do it. Then tie a couple of knots to secure the cotton and cut the extra length, so nothing is showing.
Now the bezel will not move so easily, and only when you choose to do so. Simple!
Enjoy the watchface without it constantly being changed.
I hope that helps for now until Samsung provides a fix.
Thanks.

bezel lock is now available in new Tizen 3. Enjoy
I will still have the Screen lock app installed as I use bezel lock sometimes and this app helps me to configure it many other ways via pattern, custom bezel movements, etc.

Yeah, seems like Sony has removed that feature on XZs and XZ Premium
I hope they add it back. I wonder if it's something to do with the 4k screen? Does anyone know if it's on the z5 premium?

Hello dvdman2k,
Yes the double tap to wake is on the Z5P; however I found it something of a mixed blessing as was inclined to wake from unintentional screen touches while in a pocket (in the Style Cover SCR46 with the active window). Having just migrated to the XZP I'd noticed the feature's absence, but almost with some relief !
Regards,
Kevin
PS. Having now used the device for a week or so, I've changed my opinion. There are some occasions when the Double Tap function would be very good to have. Others when I'd prefer it turned off (eg. to prevent inadvertent activation while in a jacket pocket). So my conclusion is that I'd like to see the functionality re-instated in the ROM , but with a user-controlled toggle in Settings so that it is flexible to suit requirements.

Hi kevinpwhite
Coming from Moto Z I liked the feature where you could wave hand over the display and it would wake up & the finger. Print reader is on the front of the phone.
Sometimes I want to wake the screen without pressing the power Button.
Thanks

I have double tap to lock using Nova Prime as my launcher. I don't use double tap to wake even when available because too often the screen starts up when the phone is in your pocket. However, I do wish that the fingerprint reader would unlock the phone WITHOUT having to actually press the button in just like most fingerprint readers work. Maybe they could make it work this way? In fact I am sure they could because when you are setting up your various fingers for access you do not have to push the button in. In fact if you accidentally do push it in while registering your prints it will close the screen and you have to start all over. SO I believe they could make it live/active just like any other fingerprint reader. How do we actually get these requests to Sony directly? I also wish they would unlink the ringtone volume from the notification volume.
Things might change in the next update.

This is a mandatory feature for me. I won't buy a phone without it. In fact, I pretty much need to have lift-to-wake and/or some kind of always-on-display. Pushing a power button to turn on your phone is so 2015.

Per my earlier comments, I was initially slightly relieved after the Z5P's tendency to turn on when not wanted; however, have now revised my opinion and think it would be very useful - but needs a user-selectable toggle to suit circumstances. This approach has been mooted to the Developers on the Sony Forum (they've acknowledged) and there is quite a strong voice of similar views from other users. The more strength of feeling, the more likely the feature will be re-instated in a F/W update.... :fingers-crossed:
Best regards,
Kevin
if it really bothers you, you can just buy a roxfit urban slim case for it like i have. After using a xiaomi mi5 with tap to wake , its hard going back to the old ways lol, plus less pressing on physical buttons, the longer the hardware lasts!
please bring back
Try this to wake: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jarsilio.android.waveup&hl=en
Install Nova Prime for double tap to lock.
Works great. There are other apps that do similar things in the play store. YMMV
You can always buy the official case that has a screen unlock feature. Because of it I no longer see the need of double tap to wake but it would be handy to have. I am annoyed this feature is excluded though.
Any suggestion for a simple app to do the double tap wake/lock?
Ive been using https://kernel.andro.plus/yoshino.html for DTW
Of course you need a Unlocked Bootloader
Now I'm using WaveUp, it's not like the double tap but works well for both locking and unlocking. And it has a "pocket mode" for unlock the display when you take it out from your pocket, very useful.

How is tha gonna stop accidental fingerprint detection and vibration??
The solution is to deactivate the fingerprint sensor ?
More seriously, there is no false detection, the sensor is doing its job, as soon as it feels a finger it tries to visualize the fingerprint, I do not see what is boring, If it wasn't so sharp it would be a nightmare to unlock the device !

No, you're wrong. It could be set to only vibrate when it detects a correct fingerprint. Which would be much more logical in my opinion. Or give the option to only activate the fingerprint sensor after power button is pressed.

the vibration is not there to validate the unlocking, something that we see anyway when the home screen opens, but to say that the analysis of the finger starts and that we are at the right place..
The last option might be fine for you, but personally it's a waste of time having to press a key before I can scan my finger, not sure Poco implements this In a future update ! ?

These options should be there for those who want them, they're easy to implement. Options are good I too find it annoying reaching into my pocket and having the phone light up and vibrate unintentionally.
Yeah noticed that also here where it rarely happend with my k20. It's just the new fingerprint placement.

Yes indeed having more options is positive, I'm just saying that I don't think they will, as it's a pretty special option that very few require.
Normally if you are looking for the device in the pocket, it should not turn on or vibrate because it is deactivated by the proximity sensor, in any case mine remains as dead if I hide the part upper screen..
I hope for you that a function will emerge
For me, it is clear that the "old" hardware fingerprint sensor is much better than the modern software sensor that's imposed on new devices.
But we cannot change this, so yes : some options for lock screen vibration activation-deactivation are welcome. Me too don't like to feel the phone vibration every time I touch accidentally the screen trying to extract something of my pocket, including the phone.
